Anthony Quinn was a Mexican-American actor who became an iconic figure in Hollywood during the 1950s and 1960s. He was born on April 21, 1915, in Chihuahua Mexico, and was the son of a Mexican mother and an Irish father. Quinn began his acting career on stage and made his film debut in 1940 in the movie "Parole Fixer." He went on to appear in over 200 films throughout his career.Some of Quinn's most famous roles include his portrayal of Zorba the Greek in the film "Zorba the Greek," for which he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1964.Other notable roles include Auda Abu Tayi in "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962), Colonel Andrea Stavrou in "The Guns of Navarone" (1961), and Mountain Rivera in "Requiem for a Heavyweight" (1962). In the 1970s, he appeared in "Target of an Assassin" and "The Greek Tycoon," while in the 1980s and 1990s, he starred in action films like "Lion of the Desert" and "Last Action Hero," as well as dramas such as "The Old Man and the Sea" and "A Walk in the Clouds."Anthony Quinn's final film role was in the 2002 action-comedy "Avenging Angelo." In the film, he played the character of Angelo, a Mafia boss who dies at the beginning of the movie. Anthony Quinn spent his final years in Bristol Rhode Island, a place he held dear to his heart. Unfortunately, his life came to an end on June 3, 2001, at the age of 86. The cause of his passing was respiratory failure, which was attributed to complications from radiation treatment he received for lung cancer, a disease he battled for years before his death. His wife, Kathy Benvin, requested permission from the Bristol authorities to bury her late husband in his favorite spot in the backyard of their house, which overlooked the serene Narragansett Bay. The authorities granted the request, and the actor was laid to rest in the peaceful setting, surrounded by the lush greenery and the tranquility he cherished so much.
