That mate,is absolutly spot on! If we didn't know the difference, we wouldn't be moaning about them. At stations etc, they are a very poor second to a Paxman on the pullaway, but out on the mainline they sound the DOGS BOLLOCKS!
You could hear the MAN power cars thumping thro' Twyford! Sorry delticmatt but I think I'm on the turn with MTU. Just imagine what a class 43 Warship or D600 would have sound like on this very spot 45 years ago, not a lot different from these power cars. But the Paxmans were hell on the day!

I spent a lot of time there in my younger, and not so younger days - all changed now with wires blocking the views, and no Valentas.

MTUs would have been ok if we hadnt heard the screaming power of the valentas. FGW have 62 left, and 34 MTUs. But that will sadly change rapidly!
