In response to youtube viewer feedback, my main goal in making this coop was to keep it as INEXPENSIVE as possible. That led to some headaches and unusual solutions in this build, especially with the nesting boxes , roof framing , and door construction. Those are all addressed in the other video. Please like, subscribe, and turn on notifications. As always, thanks for watching!
From the Chicken SMEs. Ventilation is the key to keep your hens health. I would have left the top part/ rafters open and put screen across both side. 1 1/2 - 2 inch Bamboo for roosting. It free and nothing will stick to them for maintenance purposes
Love the bamboo idea! In my newest build I did leave the eaves of the roof open for ventilation (with hardware cloth to make sure no critters can get in).
In case you missed it, here’s a link to the longer, more thorough version of this build w commentary. m.ua-cam.com/video/56FA-STOZKw/v-deo.html
Really enjoy your videos! I was thinking, make the top of the nesting box solid and have the front open down on a chain? Keeps nest box dryer & creates a shelf while collecting? Box would need to be higher for us tall people. I love your skill set & creativity. Your rough cuts, then finish cut technique save a ton of time & wear on the body & tools. Great approach to seemly complex problems. I've learned a lot, I appreciate you sharing! 🙏 God's blessings on you & your family
Not the best-ever coop design but mad skills none the less...
how many chickens does this house?
That was much better then any bought coop I have ever seen!! Amazing job.
This was great, I've been looking for "chickencoops" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Machaaldity Coop Blaster - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my brother in law got great success with it.
@@aracelisindriago9065 SPAM- Machaaldity Coop Blaster is a site to coop plans for $30 as opposed to lots of FREE plans on UA-cam. You are clearly invested in this SPAM link.
Can we give a round of applause for this mans circular saw cutting skills, very impressive 👏
Great Job! You were working late hours. I was thinking his wife is going to get him and no one helped you?
Hey sorry for the delay. At the time, my wife was extremely pregnant. Haha. That’s why in was putting in night hours…trying to get it finished before the baby’s arrival.
Than you for this video!
Suscribed.
I sure hope you put better locks on that door lol raccoons will get right in there. This was a great build otherwise. Good job
Best tutorial best teacher, without talking , good tutorial video, 👍
Thank you!
Love the way you think 👋🏼😍😃🙏🏻🙏🏻🫶🥰🥰🥰🥰
Great coop build!👍🏽💞😉💯✔

What a pro making a chicken coop out of pallets 👍
Camera is way too close to the project and you dont even show the whole job at the end.
I am sorry about the camera work and there’s a separate coop tour video, if you’re interested.
I remember building my rabbit cages in the dark with a head lamp. Not fun but was so happy when it was completed. New ones and a chicken coop now. Lol
Thank you for making this video. The reason I found your channel was because of your first chicken coop video
That is really beautiful!
Nice work man! 👍🏼
Taj Mahal
Did you just kill that spider!? ;-) (5:35)
Ha! For the life of me, I can’t remember what I did in that section!! I think I wrote a funny speech balloon next to it or something. I gotta go back and watch the original video and see if I can get zoomed in enough.
How many hens you think this can fit comfortably?
i think 2 chicken...
maybe he could use that thinks for a couple parrot..
2-5 but i wouldn’t do 5 unless you have a lot of free ranging space for them during the day. Also definitely not 5 if you live in a very cold climate because the chickens will spend the coldest days crammed in the coop
It’s about 12 square feet in the coop
I don't mind a little commentary. I appreciate your sharing this video. I run with the ideas so not much commentary is required. I understand that beginners appreciate the detail. Plus you sped up the video and that helps those with limited timed. Appreciate your construction skills. Praying that you and family have strength, safety, health and success with growing your independence. ☝🙏👉...
Didn't I get a set of plans from you in 2017? Built one based on them, worked great! Only suggestion would be to get some vinyl flooring and glue to floor before installation, bead of caulk around edge of it for easy cleaning. Trap door in floor is excellent!
Hello Bob, yes I remember you! Thank you for the donation 🙂. You’re right, the linoleum is clutch! I was trying to keep this coop as cheap as possible. I’m working on a new coop now, and it’s got the trap door and linoleum. 👍👍 Hoping to get the video done by mid August. I hope all is well!
I only have one thing to add to your construction techniques. To cut metal roofing, get yourself a paneling blade and mount it on your saw BACKWARDS. It will cut thru metal roofing panels like a standard blade thru plywood. But you have to put the blade on backwards or it will just get hung up. I didn’t believe it either until I tried it.
Get the rignt tool for the job, it quite and safer and faster.
🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Just, WOW. You have amazing skills. As much as I would love to have such a beautiful coop, it’s beyond my meager ability. I’ll just have to put up with my chooks complaints about their accommodations 😂😂
Thank you! I’m actually working on a new coop build right now. Will do a chicken coop tour video in the next few weeks, and a more detailed build movie in a couple months.
@@E_Fleming I look forward to seeing it.
Going to attempting this soon! 🙏🏻 for me!!
How did it go??
Very good! I achei much top! Vou fazer aqui from house! Para os chickens and codorns! Vai ficar excellent! Eles vao dar like!
Nice build but a whole lot of time there are a couple free board
as much as i want to build a custom coop like this.... I just don't think I have the 3 days or so to spend on it.... the coop in a box might cost a little more but saves so much time. decisions, decisions.
Yeah, it definitely takes some time! You could cut down on the time by using t1-11 siding instead of pallet wood, it’s just pretty pricy. Be sure to read the reviews if you do go w a coop in a box, because some don’t last long. Anyway, good luck w whatever route you choose
👍👍👍
Great job very motivational
Super! very well! 👍👍👍
Has professional tools ....does professional quality ....no sawhorses 😂😂😂
I do have sawhorses. :-) Two metal ones but I still prefer to cut plywood on the ground. You can support it in a few places so your cut isn’t widening or pinching while you’re cutting.
This was awesome to watch. You made it look so easy. I am coveting that chicken coop!
Thank you!
What'd the chickens think?
Hey nice work . Are you able to lift and move this by yourself? I’m thinking of trying something similar but I want to be able to move it to a different part of garden every two or three weeks
I was able to move it with the help of another person. You could modify it by putting a 2x8 or 2x10 all the way around the bottom which would probably allow you to move it with a dolly
@@E_Fleming hey thanks a mill I’ll try that out!
My only thought is, it’s a little top heavy...the legs are made to be buried in the ground 10-12 inches. If you research “chicken tractors” you might find some other options for making this coop more portable
I thought you were going to make a coop "out of pallets n wood" ? Not a coop covered with "pallet wood"..
Why not use pallet for the floor, cut n trim others for walls n roof (I'd use overlap modern design).
The ventilation is already built in and you cut or knock out boards for nest boxes etc..??
Your's is BEAUTIFUL but that's a $500.00 coop. Min.
Actually it cost $175-$180. As it was, the coop probably took 40 hours to build and doing everything w pallet wood would have added to that.
Why more if using pallets?
@@SDPBALLCOACH The pallets have to be disassembled which takes longer than cutting plywood or 2x4s. Every one also needs to be screwed / nailed separately vs a larger sheet of plywood which needs a screw about every foot. I ran every pallet board through the table saw so they fit together more tightly.
Ok,
I can't even make a bird house so what do I know.
That's why I watch videos and not make 'em..
Cool ..
excellent video Eric
Thank you!
Hermoso video... hermosa ... pero acá saldría más caro hacer el gallinero que mi propia casa.
¡Gracias! Acá en EEUU costó más o menos $175 USD.
AWESOME job!
Eric, you'r the man! Can I just order one? Do you do Adirondack chairs?
I’ve never attempted Adirondack chairs but I could probably make it happen w a plan.
@@E_Fleming Let me know I need 4! I still have walnut for you.
How many pallets are needed? 5-6?
A full pickup load, so I would say closer to 10-12
How many pallets did it take to sheath the exterior walls?
Good question. I would say probably 12? However many fit in my truck about 5 seconds into the video. I did have about 30 short pieces left over at the end.
Great video,
Thank you for sharing.
Can I have extra credit on our test tomorrow
That's no instructions step by step by the way lol
The instructions are found in long version with commentary. m.ua-cam.com/video/56FA-STOZKw/v-deo.html
كفو👍👍
I use the panel the way they are and add some improvement building it.
To much cuts to much time waist.
@Tito Blanco was wondering why the pallets needed disassembled..was hoping to find same sized ones and connect, any open holes filled in with extra pieces and chicken wire? Seems more efficient..but, I'm nowhere qualified to probably even debate it...but would like someone to explain the "why nots"...I'm a girl..and my guy is out of town... he'll prolly lose his mind if I mess up any tools or sawzall stuffs. Wish me luck!!
Thank you .loved this video
There’s also a long version with building tips and commentary if you’re interested.
You are a talented woodworker sir! I wish I had seen your video before I began constructing my own.
🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Great job!
Great job on your coop
Thank you!
Eres muy inteligente y esta bien chido el gallinero
¡Gracias! :-)
If you is interested in coop plans the greatest results that I have had was by using the Coop Magic Tactic (i found it on google) without a doubt the no.1 info i've followed.
Totally Awesome 👌
Thanks!
Wow, beautiful and very fast 👍😆
Im a very proficient and careful builder, even at high speeds. 😂
Brilliant presentation. Brilliant.
Thank you!
You built that fast.
:-)
Loved it, thanks
Nice build!! Great way to repurpose!! We use pallets for a lot too! Thanks for sharing!
I like it !!!
Great build.
Thank you!
Wonderful job. My only question is, were you just going for a look or trying to save money on lumber by using pallets?
My initial goal was to spend less than $100 on this coop, but it ended up being about $175. I also really like the look of the pallet wood...but it was a LOT of work.
👍🐓🥚
Ah yes, there’s our proof...the chicken did come before the egg.
Hey I loved how you framed this out. I started building mine today and followed your video with my phone. I made mine 4’ X 5’ and without the roof on yet, it’s 6’ tall. Guess when I get the roof done it’s going to be about 8.5’ tall. I’ve been tearing down some palettes too. Got 10 done with about 8 more to go. I’m going to sheath it with 1/4 inch plywood first, then add the palette boards on top of the plywood. Should give the chickens a little more insulation during the winter. Our winters aren’t that cold here in New Mexico. Anyhow, thanks for sharing, it has helped me a lot!
Oh, and I have 2 ft under the coop for the chickens to hang out. I’ll be building the run after the coop is done. 👍
Wow this is great. Now one or two chickens can live in this tiny cage.
Some people have one or two chickens
Very well done and thanks for posting. Any plans to go with this build? Thanks again for the video
No plans yet, but I hope to have them posted by mid to late February. I’m also going to add an extended version of this video with commentary and tips.
@@E_Fleming sounds good. looking forward to it!
Not the prettiest plans but this should get you started w basic framing www.flickr.com/photos/coopinstructions/49801624427/in/dateposted-public/
Absolutely brilliant video, thank you
Thank you!
40 days and 40 nights man.. But great job it looks excellent..
Yes, it took a looong time with the pallet wood!
