Yes you are a carpenter. Building anything makes you a carpenter especially when done well
Thank you so much for the comment and watching.
Kevin, best video I've seen yet on building a coop out of scrap wood. I have to say, yours looks so much more professionally built than others I've seen on UA-cam.
Thank you so much Scott.
I like how you talked about it while making it also, and telling the measurements
He said 2 ba fers !! I love it !! Nice worker
Thanks for watching
Best video on showing step-by-step and longer clips for some of us slow learners that's never built anything I think you did great
Thank you so much for the comment glad to help you.
Here is the man that knows a lot. Jack of all trade and a master of none.
Thank you Mr Suave9355
I love this chicken coop project! I'll make mine and am sure It will be awesome. This is the best chicken coop project I found. Thank you so much for sharing!
Very nice chicken coop... perfect size, I have miniature chickens this is perfect thank you for sharing will build one just like yours. Happy chickening 😃🖐️🐔
You are very welcome
Way to WING it LOL.Very nice sometimes the best things come without planning it
You got that right! Thanks for the comment.
That is a great looking coop. Not sure anyone is buying that "I'm not a carpenter" stuff you keep saying.
I was thinking the SAME THING Daryl lol..
ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO Kev...
Keep inspiring us bud!!! 👍👊✌️
I am just winging it not a carpenter.
@@Robinson-Homestead You might not be a professional carpenter, but you have the skillset to be one. Proof is in your videos.
There's a difference between being a beast at carpentry, and being a carpenter...
YOU my friend are a BEAST!!! And I'm sure that I speak for Daryl and MANY others here also!!! 👍👊✌️💪👌
But seriously, regardless of how much credit that you refuse to give yourself, you deserve it all... Just keep up the awesome and inspiring videos bud!!!
best line ever lol, im not a carpenter, if you see something wrong, its because im not a carpenter lmao
This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you! It looks great! 😁
Glad i could help
Them chicks should be proud of the new house good job buddy.
By the way Love the music.
Thanks Jim they have a new condo.
This is great! Thanks for making the video.
Glad you liked it! thanks for the comment Tom.
This is beautiful!! I have gathered my pallets and I’m almost ready to start! I can’t wait. Thank you so much for your videos!
You are so welcome! Thank you for the comment good luck my friend.
Nicely done! P.S. pilot holes are Your Friends !! 😁👍🏻
Was thinking the same thing.
That is a very nice chicken coop I love your door assembly
I have videos on just that door.
The yard bird house is looking pretty sharp! Awesome job so far brother!🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
Thank you William.

You should be doing videos Joseph thanks for the comment and watching.
I've watched video after video and this is my favorite. I wil try my best to copy it.
Thanks Robert good luck on your build.
Im making mine as we speak. So far its mint! Thanks Kevin and Julie!
That's a great idea to use the pallet wood for the coop. I like the ideas you come up with that involve recycling materials. Well done Kevin!
Looking good Kevin, and that pallet wood really looks great. If you haven't settled in on a breed of chickens, consider "Buff Orpington". They are great for our climate, good layers, and very friendly for the kids. Be well my friend, and hello Julie.
It was nice to see such great teamwork. Enjoying the series.
Glad you enjoy it!
Thank you so much for the comment and watching.
Great looking coop! Love the recycling and keeping the pallets out of landfills.
Us too! Thanks for watching
Hi Kevin & Julie… you just came up on my feed… happy you did.
First.. not a carpenter?? Well, I have to disagree on this project. I believe if there’s a will there’s a way ❣️. Read, talk to people & UA-cam is amazing to learn from. Some good some not so good😵💫 Creativity is a persons best friend! My son thinks it all out in his head then puts it in motion. Great admiration for those who use what God gave them.
Going to keep watching your series 👍
From high dry desert of Northern Nevada 👩🌾🐓🐕🍅🥬🥒🥕🫑🌶
Dee, thank you for subscribing, i am not a pro at all i just show how i do things and how they work for me, maybe not for everyone.
@@Robinson-Homestead I am a true believer that a person can always learn At Least one thing from someone else 😉. Great job👵🏻👩🌾👍
Looking good Kevin and Julie. It sure helps to have a good helper.
I love your pallet chicken coop! The wood and design are absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you so much!
It is looking great l like watching your videos
Thank you Durwin.
I like the way you did I have chicken And I want to built one like that thanks
Thanks Raul, and good luck on your coop.
Hi Kevin, nice job on that coop. Check different locations for pallets. I have found some long pallets made out of 16 foot 2x4s & others 16 foot 3x3s. If you are going to move the coop often look into adding wheels on the back end.
I enjoyed watching this build looking forward to the next. 👍 7o Stay safe, Joe Z
I have the wheels have to look into how to mount them thanks Joe.
Nice job, thats exactly what I been looking for. Think i will get started, on mine. Ps i love the locking door, super idea. Thanks.
Good build my friend. Love to see team work and a plan coming together. We are doers and creators and get the job done. Ya may want to get some knee pads on that cement floor. It will catch up to you when you get in your 70s.
Team work how it's done I should look into knee pads thanks for the comment.
Looking good so far. Very cool watching it come together. The door is awesome. You guys make a great team. Until next video. Be well.
We like working together thanks Gerard.
I'm sending to my nephew he wants to build one...cool
toobifors....love it
Thanks Jose
Hello. Its possible to get measurment of chicken coop. And also. The thickness of the beam you used for the construction?
Also, if you have a table saw you can make Rabbet joints very easily, which lock the pallet boards together (sort of like a tongue and groove thing) and this will better keep out drafts, insects, and vermin.
Thanks for the info.
You did a real good job!
Looks good so far Kevin! It's going to be nice! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Paul.
Hey Kevin can you add me as a friend on Facebook I had some questions about a 2000 Honda fourtrax 300 4x4 Hamilton Michael Cody from lufkin Tx
Thanks mate Learned lots 👍🏼
Your welcome glad i could help.
I like it, right now, pallets are free here, and I have most tools. If I wasn't considering building a coop, I wouldn't be watching. Unfortunately now, chicks are already gone from our farm store, but there's hopefully next year. I don't really care about the ability to drag it around.
Royal king gets chicks in all year long that should help you.
@@Robinson-Homestead Actually, our local farm store (Norbys) just got a new batch, but we're not ready. So it'll be next year, provided we're all still here by then. Next year, chickens and rabbits..
I tried to take apart some pallets but they were put together really well. I couldn't get some of them apart.
They are pretty hard sometimes, maybe try a saw if you can.
i swear ill be able to pull off suspenders like this one day!!!
They make them to go under your T-shirt they work for me so nice.
Awesome work pal!
Julie is pretty serious with the nail gun too, you guys are a great team seriously!!! 👍💚
#ienvyyourfamily
She loves her nail gun Bobby thanks for the comment and watching.
...just so you know, kayak pallets have LONNNNG boards essentially 2x4 😏🥳
Riding mower shipping frames have longer boards than standard pallets, 1x4, 2x2, and sometimes 2x3.
I agree about the pressure treated wood. It should be used anywhere that is going to touch soil or wet manure.
Wood used around animals really should be painted to seal it from bacteria and mites, etc., for biosecurity purposes.
Plus, it just looks nice, especially if you match your house or do something fanciful.
Cute coop, and the door is nice, similar to the ones I build. That type works very well. 🐔
Thanks for the tool links!
Thanks for watching and the comments
Great video. Looking forward to it my friend. God bless.
Thank you Gayle.
LOVE this!
Thank you Lea
Kind of miss leading who was i to think someone actually made a coop completely out of pallets... I do however love the way your chicken coop was put together. Nice little build for a person who "isn't a carpenter" I'm in the beginning stages of my chicken paradise. and I'm loving all these great ideas from good old youtube. and this Video didn't disappoint
I'm sure you could build the hole coop from pallet wood but being on the ground it wouldn't last long thank you for your comment and watching Dave.
Hi I’m planning on building this coop (well at least trying to) I was wondering what is the angle of the roof?
Looks awesome!
Thank you Michael.
This is awesome!! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
You're doing a good thing by having the Grand-kids to participate in the chicken raising....had to resub to your channel...I guess youtube is doing the rounds again....your about the 10 th one I had to resubbed...Looking real good Kevin...havent bin commenting much but still waching....bin real busy with my truck lately....CHEERS
Thanks Gator.
It's good that you can do all your work yourself and not have to pay.
Thanks, very helpful
Glad i could help.
Like a real life Ron Swanson.
Thanks for watching
Very nice work, but I was hoping to see a completed project in one video.😊
Hey I am looking to build my own pallet chicken coop was wondering how many and what length 2x4's you used for this project?
Have you seen part 2 yet I think I give all the sizes in it?
Great video, you made it look easy, thank you for posting this
Thank you for watching and the comment
You can pick up old lawn mower wheels at junk yards or from dumps. If you ask the people at the garage sites they will pick them up for you and give them to you. Put the lawn mower wheels on the coop and there's no dragging, that will make your coop weaker over time. You can easily move the coop. I don't know why you would want to keep moving a coop. But each to their own. I just built a wooden frame and covered it with chicken wire and attached it to the coop. So my chickens and others birds could be outside without having animals and hawks catch my fowls. They go in and out a small door icut in the side of the coop. I just put hinges on it an have a drop hook to close it inside. So far i haven't lost a single duck, chicken, truckey or birds to any thing. People make everything harder then it has to be. I notice that with alot of channels regarding building out buildings.
Good info thanks
Great Job..
Hi there. What angle did you cut the wood at to get that pitch? It also looks like you cut an angle at the sides as well? Thanks!
I'm not sure sorry.
Hi Kevin great build . One question, how do the skids work? I see you have cross pieces mounted at the same level of the skid, doesn’t that defeat the purpose of having raised skids so you don’t get hung up on the terrain?
It worked good little bigger wheel would be nice.
Fantastic. Only 1 question. Did u pry your boards off or Sawzall them off? I do both. Home made pallets tool. But Sawzall is usually quicker. How about cutting pallet planks? Nails removed? I am hurting watching all those angled cuts for streamline build. I'm hurting because my sliding compound miter saw died. Just built coop box as square as I could with straight pallet wood. Flat sheet tin panel tilting roof. Just a square, nails in straight cut coop. Like yours so much better. It would please the mrs. more just for appearance.. That should make any hen happy, lol. Great build great helper. Fantastic video build. Saving it and getting my new saw.
I used a pry bar on my pallets.
Cool build …just wondering how is it holding up now from when video was made
So it's doing good thanks for the comment.
Great Video series. I'm looking to make one similar. Sorry if it has been asked already, but about how many pallets did you end up using for this coop? Do you happen to have a rough parts/framing list?
Sorry it's been a while so i don't remember but thanks for watching.
Very nice job, Kevin!! I have a devil of a time taking the boards off of pallets. I either grind the heads off of the nails first, or shove a slender wrecking bar under the boards, and pry them up, not very pretty with the nail head ripping through the wood. Most of these nails are super stuck into the wood, and can't be clawed out well. Thanks for sharing your techniques, they look good!
here is my pry bar video, if you can make one of these it will help a lot. ua-cam.com/video/Cf-aUn1VDmU/v-deo.html
Have you seen my new homestead channel ua-cam.com/channels/m3w8QDIiRB0U-MGVgaQ_DA.html
Use a reciprocating saw with a metal saw open enough to go in between boards I just did it today and it was a breeze with no broken boards
Nice little chicken shack!
I was looking for a diy with pallet wood and yours is fantastic. Do you remember home many 2x4’s you used? Could I just get 2x2s instead if I don't want to chop them in half? Sorry new to all this, but learning.
Sure you can use 2x2 I cut them because they're cheaper don't be sorry I am here to help you. Have you seen my videos on the pallet wood pry bars?
I have a playlist pallet wood projects should be very helpful.

@@Robinson-Homestead thank you I will be watching those next!
What are the dimensions of the 2x4 frame, and what is the dimensions of the coop frame?
Love the videos Kevin! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Adam.
very good video.
Thank you Henry
Hi I love your videos and I'm getting ready in the next few days to build this coop, can you tell me how many 2x4s you used please
Good coop fun build.
You should use construction adhesive when brad nailing.
I usually do thanks for watching
Good job !
Thank you Efrain.
nice job Kevin
Thanks Tom.
Would you say this coop held up well? Are the 2x2s with gussets enough?
Every thing has been holding up good so far Keaton 2x2s are good to thanks for the comment hope this helped.
Do you know how much you roughly spent on wood? We are trying to decide if it will be more beneficial to buy or build
I think it was around two hundred for everything including metal, screws, wire and wood.
Tag-team coop builders.
Lol that's right thanks Lggie.
Love your build! How is it working out with 6-8 birds? Everything I've read says that 12 sq ft is only big enough for about 3 chickens.
I think it is ok for about three or four chickens so we are building a bigger one this spring.
hopefully I see the continuation or final product
hope this video helps Henry part 2 ua-cam.com/video/xtpttQDgJlQ/v-deo.html
On the 2x2 frame what angle did you use in order to make the roof angle? You didn't mention that in your video. What was your measurements on you nesting box? You didnt mention that the video either. I'm about to get started on the build. I just got the base ready to be screwed and about to build the legs and the box its self. It's a long process for me to get this project done with work and my kids keep me busy. Other than that your video is best pallet chicken coop. idea
nice
Thanks Ganesh.
Beautiful coop! How many 2x4s did you end up using?
Sorry it was a while ago and i don't remember but if you watch the video it might say, thanks for watching.
Did you use full 8ft 2x4s for the base
Yes thanks for the comment and watching.
Kevin, maybe I missed it, but did you give the dimensions for your build. I really like your video. Would like to build one like it to. Thanks for your help. I live in PA too - Clearfield County. Also have a cargo trailer camper too.
I will do a video on just the dimensions I would to see your camper thank you for the comment.
Maybe I missed it...but what are the dimensions of the chicken coop?
Thanks in advance!
Sorry i don't know right off hand myself.
What kind of nails are you using that you use 8 per board?
2 inch brad nails
Kevin, can you tell me how many 2x2s and 2x4 you used?
No i'm sorry i don't know right off hand
Hey Kevin,
I still need A Dewalt handsander and would rather buy from you than anyone

Great Job !! Do you have Plans for that ?
Love it! However, I'd suggest not getting a rooster if you have
close neighbors since
roosters start crowing
repeatedly @ sunrise.
Good information thanks.
Did you make any windows for ventilation?
There is a small on at the top.
please show how you attached the legs onto the base
This this is all my video on the chicken coop ua-cam.com/video/h8w4Y0nodCg/v-deo.html&pp=gAQB

How do you stop a shed roof from leaking?
Put metal on it thanks for the comment.
holy crap you got enough nails in this build you could melt down and build Ukraine a tank brigade! lol
Lol it's not coming apart for sure thanks for the comment
What is "womanized wood"? I turned on the subtitles to make out what was said and it displayed "womanized wood" lol
Its wolmanized wood [ pressure treated wood] . womanized is funny though
How tall is the hen box ?
12"
