- Gotta say WOOHOOO. Can finally post a animation I made in Procreate Dreams. So cool that the world knows about it now and the release is close! This app is such a Powerhouse! So a first animation of many to come. The beutiful audio is created by Heath Brown.

Beautiful! Could you tell me how much storage a project like this takes up? Im about to get a new ipad, and wondering how much storage is needed to create in procreate dreams.
@@willbelial3775 Thank you. I think the final Procreate Dreams file with all the animation and such was aprox 5 GB. And you might wanna save a few versions as you go. But you can also delete the oldest versions, so you maybe allways have 3-5 backup versions. And the Procreate files with the painting isnt very big, maybe 300mb or so. I would go for a ipad with 256gb or more

Can you export the finished film as HD file size?
@@snaaus2000 Yes. HD or UHD or smaller. The largest is 3840px by 2160px also called 4k

Hey, I have procreate and I animated content and short films. How do I have my app look clear without looking pixelated?
@@Zeuken cool. When you write "app" do you mean video? It depends on the resolution you use when you draw your elemnts, how much you zoom in and the resolution on the final animation.

Was the parallax done by hand of is there some sort of multiplane feature?
You can animate one group and just scale the animation size wich gives the multiplane effect. Or if you got just a regular straight parallax you just ad two keyframes to every layer, just less and less movement for each depth. But that you have to do manually. There is not a finished camera setup for it.

Thank you! Do you mean that comes with the App? Not sure if more example animation artwork will pop up, but we just have to make our own new ones :-) Im working on that every day!

Hehe, I cannot reccomend it enough!!! That prize fir that app. Both Procreate and Procreate Dreams are Amazing apps, for very very little money. To me its a no-brainer

Can you explain what is frame by frame and what not. I downloaded Procreate Dreams as well and thought it would make animation so much more fun and easier but realized soon that it still depends a lot on frame by frame, sketching and animation.
The fox/fish is frame by frame. And the splash + bubbles. The rest is keyframed (like the paralax and environment) the butterfly is Preformed (the realtime animation in Dreams)
It all depends what you want to animate. But get to know all 3 methods well, Preform, frame-by-frame and keyframing. And you can combine them in cool ways and save alot of time.
I would watch alot of the youtube videos that gives you the startup of how Dreams works. If you go to procreate.com then support, you can also find the Procreate Dreams handbook witch shows what you can. Do and how you can find it.

When I saw the “record and animate with your finger” feature, it totally reminded me how you sometimes do some doodles for rain/snow/flies/etc, screen record them, put that video on top in LumaFusion and play with it.
Anyways, this looks fantastic and will be looking forward for long form videos and those juicy Gumroad tutorial goodness!
EDIT: one of them being sci-fi style hope it makes a comeback too!

It will work on many ipads, not just pro. Not totally sure about the full list. But works on my 2019 mini :-)

Do you know if there is a limit to how long an animation can be?
There is no set limit for that. So as long as you wish, I guess :-)
How long did it take to create that short clip?
About 3 weeks I think :-)
This is less than 20 seconds and looks amazing! But i played around with Dreams yesterday and was really struck by how unintuitive it is. They packed too much into an initial release and really none of its done well. It seems like a lot was done as an after thought and thus much of the functionality is hidden by disjointed menus/options. And some basic functions are just missing.I know it'll get fixed eventually
Thank you :-) I really reccomend watching the tutorials that is out there and checking out the Handbook that is on the procreate.com website under support. There is alot of hidden features that you have to know about to get how to use the potential of Procreate Dreams. But when you get to know it, you will realize how powerful it is! Just take the time to get to know it! It is really worth it
I have some experience with procreate. The normal programme also has a small animation timeline.

It is fairly advanced, and will get more advanced. But it depends what you compare to.

An animation short film about a cat becoming a foster kid after getting separated from his mom during a stormy boat ride
An animation film about a boy whose father and people hate and fear dragons and want to kill all because of the legends and he wants to come in peace
An animated web series and Ed Edd n eddy parody about an anthropomorphic calico cat, St. Bernard dog and red fox.
A little nightmares fan series follow up to all the games
A web series about a female fruit bat and grey mouse who are friends

Not to take ANYTHING away from the excitement and amazing functionality of Procreate's Dreams software announcement BUT.....I have a very strong feeling that similar to a new fangled piece of fitness equipment,....there will be thousands and thousands and hundreds of thousands that buy the program only to end up (using it for a month) and then ultimately letting it sit on the hard drives in basic obscurity once they realize just how difficult animation truly is. It's hard,....like REALLY REALLY hard and time consuming.....to do it well. I think Dreams will allow those that already have the skills AND PATIENCE to perhaps create some really cool stuff more efficiently and for that it's really great! Do I believe that Dreams will "lessen the pain points" required to achieve some 2D animation? I most certainly do...but again.....there will still be soooooo many people that were "drawn" in by the showcase clips and then soon realize that there is STILL ALOT of work that goes into it.
Also,...Nikolai....you did a wonderful job there with your animation. There will be hopefully more from you and others like you and it will be sure fun and exciting to see how far you all take it.
I mean what Procreate has done here is really fantastic and at an amazing price point....so for that,......a great big cheer. The flip side to this though,...so if 85% of the people that purchase it never end up doing a thing with it, I guess there have been worse things that $20 has been blown on....plus it helps the developers continue to advance it and build on it even more.
Hehe, you got a really good insight into general human behavior :-) But I think you are totally right. But Procraete Dreams has some really easy to use tools for everybody. You dont need to be an animator to make something cool. But ofcourse detailed animation takes time!

how did you made the background moved very smooth?
I preformed it. I did a preform with very high Motion Filtering, that gives smooth motion. Then I duplicated that group with the move on, to every layer I needed. Then I had to scale the layer with movement down for each layer inwards, and scale the content up to be right size.

One guy did all of what you see. So backgrounds, characterdesign, animation, comp etc. And another guy did all the audio :-)

You mean like puppet rig? You will get hirarchy with groups where you can set ancorpoint where you want. So you can in a way rig simple things 😊👍
