  • Ernie tells the story of how he got the starring role in McHALE'S NAVY. And how he got along with such co-stars as Tim Conway, Joe Flynn and Carl Ballantine. Phil Silvers/Sgt. Bilko mentioned as well. A candid conversation about one of the most popular tv sitcoms.
    "The power of television, marvelous!"

What an interesting character Ernie Borgnine is, I could shoot the breeze with him for hours and enjoy every minute of it. By watching this series I've come to the conclusion that the kind good hearted character Ernie played in "Marty" was really him. What a gem of a human being, rest in peace Ernie. The world is a better place because of the life you lived.

Earnest was such a relatable and totally genuine person. So very glad he got to thoroughly enjoy his free time seeing parts of the USA and relating to people along his way. 🤩🤗😘

Just a wonderful character actor, who played an integral part in many of Hollywood's most rermemable and finest films. Mr. Borgnine's brilliance, as a supportive actor, truly allowed a 90-120 min. motion picture to depict amazing stories. The old box office rules, governoring marketability and as well profitablity, lead to dramatic discrepancies between salaries demanded by "leading men", and those character actors casted in supportive roles that were fundamental to the success of a film. Indeed, a wonderful character actor. My favorite role was the "raw and earthy" depiction, as "fatso", in "From here to Eternity". But, if you've ever seen "Marty", you'd know very well the impact and indelible qualities, that fine acting and films leave behind in our memories.

He wasn't 95 then. Someone estimated he was in his late 70's when the series was filmed. Still a very good driver and totally genuine person.
