Fox and dog playing in yard (fox scream at end)

- A fox that lives in our neighborhood comes to our yard and tries to play/interact with our dog Kirby (kinda looks like a fox). They stare each other down, and chase after each other. The fox makes crazy loud shrieking noises at end of video.

That fox looked so disappointed at the end...
I really love how the fox is alerting the dog from danger (the dog's masters)! I think it's cute!!
Oh no!
He is actually signalling the dog to come back and play with him. He was wanting to play but wasn't going near the humans.
you're right that is the danger scream alot
The fox is not alerting the dog
No the fox was not
The fox is calling the dog back to play with him.
Yeah, poor fox
Reminds me DiCaprio sinking in the ocean scene.
_"Come back... come back... come back!"_
seems like he wants to warn the dog of the evil humans
@@hansmuller4338 yeah. Otherwise the fox would have followed the dog up to the guy filming. That fox scared the hell out of me, though.
@@hansmuller4338 bababooey
Well that definitely wasn't a vixen scream that was an alarm bark. It see's the dog as a friend and was warning it of the human's it sees as danger.
I think the fox has pups nearby. Had one under my shed and she screamed at me dogs every night!
That's exactly what I thought. That is also why the fox looks so shocked to see the dog running back to the human. Hehe, lol. Bless him.
Did the fox tell you that?
I agree with you. Thats what I read from the Foxes body language.
Naw it deff doest trust the humans to cme any closer but the fox desnt look anxious. Just really has the zoomies and wants to play
Aw the poor fox was like "why you leave me?" so cute
I went camping in July and heard this sound from my tent. I was shitting bricks. I thought someone was being murdered and that I was next lol.
LOLL
aHahaha
A bobcat scream will have precisely the same effect!
Exactly same. We have urban foxes roaming around over here
@@philthycoder Same with Racoons when they are in heat or fighting over trash.
Foxes body language definitely says, "Come play with me!"
He wants to play some more, and he's calling his doggy pal to come back out. What a sweet fox.
Thanks for posting and for not being hysterical about seeing a wild animal in your yard. Beautiful fox.
We came home last night to find my dog playing with a fox. So awesome!
Nouvelle fable de la fontaine :le renard et le chien😅
Awwwwwwww that fox was having fun 😂
Hilarious! You solved a mystery for me. I have a family of 7 foxes living behind my house. I have heard this exact scream at night many times and at first thought it was human, but realized it sounded more animal. It's a relief to know the foxes are not in distress, just trying to get attention, like this fox just wanted your dog to come back out and finish playing.
Nah it's a vixens warning call to her pups when she thinks there's danger like a coyote or something.
@@kellil3845 fox prolly thought the humans were the danger and his friend went to the hoomans
Ha ha ha ha ha😂
At night? Oh baby I would pack my bags and move chile 💀
A lot of people seem to hink foxesonly make noises like this under distress.
Foxes in the wild arent that talkative unlike fur farm rescues as there has been a degree of (horrible) domestication of them through selective breeding and generations of domesticated foxes. So those guys are a bit different socially, however the wild fox is still a curious and playful animal.
Domesticated and wild foxes will scream at eachother for territorial quibbles, playtime (tone is different) wtc. Vixens call is just usedto get attention.
Awww, that's super cute, poo foxi wanted a friend. You see even animals feel lonely and want to socialize and have friends 🙂😌
i think it wanted to mate either the dog or it was in heat/mating season cuz of the way it acts thats what i assume
I know it's like they're playing tag
@@soulzuniverse5097 Not sure how they interact socially when we're talking about wild foxes, but it's been seen that domesticated foxes and other pets can very well be friends and cohabitate. This fox looked just like it was playing tag as I have seen other foxes of the same sex do with eachother. I really don't think the fox wanted to mate, but its plausible.
@@soulzuniverse5097 um... What? Foxes are a social species that have even been found to dig borrows for other animals, like beavers.
Not every interaction is due to the desire to mate
I think the fox wanted to play and the dog wasn't in the mood.
What i see : enormous yard.
There's no doubt in my mind this vixen was definitely interested in checking Kirby out. It looked to me like she was trying to play with him, and even sniffed him up to see he was all about, and at the end she was like "Wait.. hey? Where are you going? Aww, come back!".
I hear this noise when I sleep over my parents house and my dad said it was the horse up the street lol
lmaoooo!
Hahahahaha!
Lol
😂😂😭
Awww I know that the foxes bark sounds really spooky and scary but
he was just saying "Come back and Play!"
That reminds me of that Disney movie the fox and the hound
what a playful and friendly young fox!!!
What does the fox says?

dog got hair raising at the end !
now we actually know what he says..
You have a beautiful yard :) loved seeing such a playful fox
The Fox & the Hound...wow, that's adorable. XD
That was sad, the poor thing is lonely. The fox missed/misses its new friend and wanted him/she to come back. That could be y the fox was making some noise so the dog would go back and that the fix probably didn't want to be alone anymore.
We had a fox that would bark at my dog Digger, run around him and roll on the ground.Foxes are solitary creatures, but they love to play like any other dog.He wasn't probing the dog's weaknesses.Coyotes and wolves however will.Spent many a night in the mountains of Washington State, and lived on some remote part of the Upper Peninsula.Learned a thing or two about foxes and wolves.Great video, always nature at It's finest.
Exact comment i was loomi h for ty
Nice insight. Would you agree that the fox's play style is more like that of a refined predator ? Like you said he wasn't probing, but it does look like it ?
@@shoddyproductions9793 Foxes like to play with all sorts of animals, including sheep, caribou, cows, ect... They play games, and the like to nip the back of an animal when its turned away and then run when it turns around. They follow humans while walking on trails unbeknownst to us.
@@counterstrike89 My friend's Pyrenees loves to nip at the heals of coyotes ( He could kill them in seconds, but just wants to "play":) I had a fox join us at a campfire after a few days of him deciding we were cool. They fascinate me ! And I wonder if it's their intelligence showing that does that ?
@@shoddyproductions9793 I think both the fox and coyote can outrun and out maneuver any captive dog breed. But yes physically they're pretty light animals, so the dogs are stronger.
I like this greenish place, so tranquil, beautiful, and peaceful.
Great you went out side when you could. Yes the fox wanted a companion to play with. Love the fox calling your dog.
the fox sound like its screaming NOO!
@Kabuki Kitsune Alarm Bark*** Vixen sreams sound different and are used for mating
Beautiful video and you are blessed to have such a beautiful yard too.
Ok this was the coolest friggin video I've seen in like 3 months on UA-cam... and now my mutt who's mostly hound is going nuuuuuts. The red foxes by me scream at about 315 AM pretty much once or twice/week anywhere from April through November. I'm assuming the only reason your Kirby didn't freak is because he's a shepherd and smarter than all of us. Thanks for the video!!!
Why are they screaming?
@@herbertfrancisthe1115 Heard a good joke
That's a vixen mating call. She's in love with your dog.
Sounded like a alarm bark. I looked up fox calls here and it sounds just like the alarm bark from the videos, which would make sense also, the dog went to his humans and the fox was warning him about it.
I love the flower boxes on your fence. Pansies, right? Beautiful. Now I want that kind of fence!
Thank you for posting. So special. You live in a beautiful place.
My Dalmatian’s best girlfriend was a fox he played with first when they were both no bigger than a cat. :). True love. She visited him almost every night. The night we were moving away it was as if she knew and just cried and screamed that night like never before.
Awww, that's sad! Had she screamed much before then?
@@hazelangus It was VERY different that night. Normally just the barks to get his attention. But this was wild. We really wondered if she knew. I am not even sure HE knew we were moving! Amazingly incredible animals, foxes.
Dog and fox are same genetic. That's why they can be friends and playing.
@@joclive7086 I'd say thy could get along with cats, but from what I've seen cats generally bully curious foxes.
the bark at the end is a ( DANGER BARK) ..cute :)
That fox wants some loving. Amazing how he calls your dog right away. Like hey man I wanna play, where u goin! Animals with personality plus both dog n fox
I hate that he feels that he cant go up on the porch and play with him. Heart breaking
not really
Oh, how precious! The fox wants to get closer and play but the dog is not sure. The wonderful world of animals, very precious!
So cool...never heard a fox before 4:05 saying "Kirby, COME BACK" "KIRBY, I want to play" , "KIIRRBBY". Kirby acts like a really nice mellow pooch. Awesome (kinda scary at first) video.
This is what the fox and the hound reboot would look like
Beautiful yard !!! Awesome fox.
The sound at the end finally made me realize what animal crossed my path, when I was on my way home a few years ago late at night.
But it was so fast, that I just saw a black blur 5 feet in front of me xD
Foxy is calling, perhaps he is hungry and lonely
Yeah I think so to
I’m sure they’re both long gone, but this was so cute!
I don't think that I ever have heard a howling sound from a fox before. Interesting. Looks like the fox really took an interest in your dog.
Oh, my goodness! I was awakened from sound sleep around 4 am this morning and heard this EXACT same sound. I thought one of my neighbors across the road from me was in distress, so I called 911. They sent two squad cars. The "screaming" had already stopped by the time they arrived, but they hung around for 15 minutes or so listening to make sure everything was okay. I kind of feel foolish now for calling, but how was I to know it was not a person in distress. I hope the fox was not in trouble. Thanks for posting this. I just learned something new today. ;-)
Lol no worries, you simply had a Vixen in heat trying to summon a mate XD
Didn't know that foxes could be so playful. Charming.
What a gorgeous yard!
Fox is like, "I THOUGHT YOU WERE MY FRIEND!!!"
Geez what a beautiful back yard!
This was beautiful, I love Animals.
I LOVE your flowers and planter boxes
The fox is screaming because hes calling the dog to come back and play with him How ADORABLE
What's scary? Hearing a fox scream at 2am, when you're outside all by your lonesome.
The fox wanted to play and didn't want Kirby to back inside ...
Maybe the fox wanted to play some more and started saying ''COME BAAAACK'' XD
This is adorable, we have a lot to learn from animals 🦊❤🐶 The fox seems upset when the dog left. Awwww lonely fox....
I feel like this fox has been through allot
Fox and the hound
Love story
Awesome! Our outdoor cats and the local raccoons love playing together! The mama raccoons even let the cats lick their newborn babies!
The cute fox is like "where are you going bro?! Come back!"
Well look at that, a fox and a hound playing together
Fox wanted to play so bad!
you are very kind and loving people
*The Fox:* I am speed!
*The Dog:* Send help, this weird dog is chasing me!
Did the fox think the dog was another fox?
Fox's and dogs are part of the same family
Foxes are canids.
They know they are different
@@mrhefe2322 they can't interbreed tho
Yes I think both the dog and the fox thought the other was probably just a rather weird looking member of the same species
Probably some of the only footage existing I've seen at least, of a wild fox interacting with a domesticated dog. A glimpse of cousins playing, essentially. And the fox calling at the dog to come back is something I have never seen or heard of before. I know they make the "vixen's call" quite often, regardless of sex or reason .(My opinion is this is their "bark". Foxes make some weird noises.)
Thank you for sharing.
As a side story, my father's property has a shed that a family of foxes have burrowed under. I was lucky enough to witness them a few times on my camping trip there.
They own a Rott shepard mix and she always goes ballistic at them when in the house. But once when outside in the afternoon, she froze. She was alert as soon as she spotted the fox. I had chased the poor critter off, as the little guy was curious about the pots and pans I had just spray painted as targets. Being foxes are curious creatures and explore the world with their mouths, he began to nip at it. I didn't want the little guy getting poisoned so I shooe'd him away, depsite beign enthralled by these magnificent creatures.
Awwww the fox was calling the dog to come back and play.❤️☺️
both gorgeous creatures....but those fox screams are bone chilling @ 3am when you've never heard a fox scream before...
i luv this video, fantastic footage, good on you!!!
That fox is soooo cheeky, gorgeous!!!
Sweet temperament of you doggy too!
Foxy just wants to visit his cousin.
Okay, now I know what that sound is. Thanks for posting this.
poor fox just wants to play, but doggo like “why u yellin’ at me??”
arrg this reminded me of the disney's film "the fox and the hound" :((
That fox went from adorable to demonic with that horrible scream
Fox at the end : HEY COME BACKKKKK DONT LEAVE ME FRIENDDDD EEEE
I think the fox was a female, and was maybe scouting for a boyfriend. Kirby was going from spot to spot where the fox had been, likely to sniff her scent. I wouldn't have thought so until she barked at him. Foxes do bark for other reasons, but mostly to attract a mate. Sometimes a female will bark 8-10 hours straight and if it's while you're trying to sleep, it is a pain in the butt. Foxes are becoming less fearful of man as we encroach more upon their territory. They are being domesticated in Russia and they have breeded some new foxes with at least two layers (generations) of domestication.
When you mentioned Kirby I thought is you talking about Smash Bros.
definitely in heat -- the way she keeps laying down & stalking him... aww... lol
Fox is like "AAAAARRRRRR PLAY WITH ME DOG! YAAARRRRR"
wow! that is gr8 that I finally know what a fox sounds like
Playful fox. Beautiful.
Never knew a fox could make that sound ! It sounded like a woman screaming....it sounded bloodcurdling!
He just wanted to play. They are so cool. I've never seen one other than in movies or pics.
that was such a cool video.. man that fox is something else.. what a funny lil animal.. and his scream is like a cross between a cat and a dog. Man that's something else!
When all you want is a friend and everyone ignores you
I had to look up other interactions with dogs and foxes because a very similar encounter happened this morning with my dog and a red fox
Beautiful yard
That screaming from the fox is absolutely terrifying
Interesting vid,
For those who are interested:
"The loudest and most prominent sound made by foxes is the scream or contact call, typically used by vixens, or females, when they are ready to breed in the late winter and spring, Harris told LiveScience. This "blood-curdling" call "sounds a bit like somebody being murdered," he said. The call is designed to travel long distances and summon suitors. "They are looking for the best fox to mate with," Harris said. The "scream" can also be used by males, and by females at other times, though." (www.livescience.com/39478-what-foxes-sound-like.html)
So cool seeing different species of animals interacting.
Awesome. I didn't realize I had never known what a fox sounded like. I was led here by the bizarre and addicting "What Does The Fox Say" by Ylvis. The fact that almost any animals can be seen to play and hang out with each other gives one hope that Humans will someday follow suit and put aside the idiocy of racial tension and just coexist in peace and fun. :) thanks guys that video made me smile.
The fox barking at the end, very cool.
Foxes are just wild dogs. They have the same desires. I used to have a fox that used to come around and play with my cat. He loved chasing the cat and then the cat would chase him and he would come back every night. Lived down in this little swampy area. Very cute. I know multiple people who own them as pets and they are so cute. Especially the fennec foxes that are tiny with huge ears. Whenever I sell my condo and buy a house with some property, I may get one or a raccoon. Or maybe both. I’m sure they would love to play together.
Why on earth of all pets you could choose WHYYYY would you want a raccoon please explain that to me
I've listened to fox cries, and this is definitely the vixen's scream, it is more drawn out than the alarm bark. The last few might be alarm barks, but the first few were mating calls.
This fox has to be wild; but, he sure does seem to have had some positive interaction with dogs before. I can't believe he's be so "friendly" with your dog, otherwise.
He?
@@rachelzellmer I'm not sure what you're asking.
I like how the dog keeps looking back at them like "should i go and play with the fox? Should i do a friendly introduction or?"
foxes are so beautiful!
Dogs and foxes are from the same family. They get along really good
My dog plays with the Fox in my yard too. The Fox screamed because she wanted her friend to play more.
Smart fox to keep your distance from people. You don't want to become domesticated, believe me.
Dan's family used to roam the wild tundras of Scandinavia, shunning human contact for centuries until one fateful day when they caught scent of fresh pastries being baked in a local village. The rest is history... ;)
Do I know you???
Not at all! This reply is most unexpected. Is my tale partially true..??
No, I was just trying to be witty. Very much liked your post; I felt the need to respond with something whimsical as well.
Hahaha, cheers then!
Precious canine babies.
Interesting fox sound...I may have heard this by us but was told it might be a fisher cat similar to a weasel.
The first two minutes of this video was like watching the old cartoon of Ralph and Sam. Ralph is sneaking all around and Sam the Sheepdog is sitting there like he's oblivious. That's not a scream at the end, he's yelling his name. Raaaalph! Raaaalph!
Aww that's so cute like fox and the hound :)
