I needed something big to build encounters using all of my scatter terrain. This 24x24 inch tile will give me 120' scale feet on which to play! Watch me scratch build this tile for my Dungeons and Dragons tabletop game! I use foam, craft paint, and ink washes to make this scatter terrain.

Nice to see all the old builds reappear! The same, consistent technique and color palette makes sure everything fits together perfectly!
Thank you! I might try experimenting with thinner base materials. They are a little chunky.
Wow it looks really freakin good! High quality than some of those $80+ neoprene mats. Excellent work!
Thank you! I might build a wooden tray for it to protect the edges.
love the sort of generic/non-specific color palette and texturing, i’ve been planning to make a large game board but didn’t want to commit to specifically a grass/cave/dungeon/desert since my games change setting so much, i’ll definitely have to do something like this! i’m thinking double sided, one with a brownish-greenish color like this and then one with a grayish-purplish color
Thanks for checking it out! Double sided would definitely be the way to go!
Wow, my [4 inch brush] brother, looks awesome! Definitely [4 inch brush] looks like it took a lot of work. Next large [4 inch brush] battle board, you may want to consider a larger brush.😁🤣 as always, I appreciate you and I’m looking forward to your continued series and learning more from you. - Rick, USMC🥴
Haha! I hear you [4 inch brush]! I just went after this build without much prep so I was adapting to what was on hand. Thanks for watching another video!
"Finger paint" 😄
That's ideal compared to my vinyl grid map. My group does DND, Mega Traveller and Top Secret (by TSR). That color scheme fits any game with separate terrain pieces, awesome work. 👍
I love Top Secret! That's an obscure one! I use this tile all the time. I went ahead and added a few coats of matte polyurethane spray to make the surface even more durable. Thanks for checking it out!
Our Top Secret campaign is different. It's an organization that can accommodate many types of missions without being "governmental" agencies. With real world events, there's never a lack of inspiration for missions. It walks the line of Private Military Contractors the way I DM.
@@scottadkins9902 That sounds brilliant!
Love this, the colours all matching the terrain is excellent
Thank you! I hope no one is getting bored with this palette yet!
That's a really good color combo. Thanks!!!
Thank you for watching! It's a simple but effective pallette.
Love the quick board demo!
Thank you for checking it out!
Love all of it together!!!!
Thanks! It's gonna make for some fun encounters!
Thank you for sharing. I'm just getting started and you make it look super easy.
Just jump right in! This is a great hobby! Thanks for watching!
Nice - short and sweet.
Hard to beat! Most of my focus is on the next four tiles of the Hidden Valley series but I really needed this tile for game night!
Sweet. Looks great. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for checking it out!
Nice to see your layouts with multiple pieces of scatter terrain! The consistency in technique and pallet pays off - they go together really well!
Thank you! It's good to see everything together and get some ideas for improvements.
Nice simple build.
Thanks! I can't wait to run some encounter on this!
And no dry brush after those washes? Prolly helps the minis and scatter stand out better. Looks good!!
Thank you! I usually dry brush then apply my washes. I ended up adding a bit more of the light grey and tan. The original surface was a bit to dark.
So a 2*2" display. Personally I find it easier to do the aluminium roll first and scratch in the grid later. Sure, I might miss a few spots with the grid, but at the end of the day it makes it even look better? Preference of choice of course.
That's interesting, I will give that a try some time. I'm working on a design for a 3D printed texture roller. It will be a 4" roller that fits on a standard paint roller. The ends are going to be tapered so as not to leave hard edges. Keep the ideas coming! Thanks!
Uhhh...
What's the vector Victor?
😉
We have clearance, Clarence! Thanks for watching!
Didnt warp at all? Any tips?
It was already warped about 1/8" over the 24". I hit it with a hairdryer set to high on the topside and was able to bring it up just a bit. It works great for scatter terrain but the Hidden Valley tiles are gonna need to go in a wooden tray with a low rim.
I wonder if you could put a piece of this foam in an oven at a very low temp and then weight it down? Good question for Reddit! Certain types of foam off-gas at room temperature so I don't know if it would be a good idea or not.
This board really needs to be mounted in a tray with sides but then its not very light any more. So many variables! Thanks for watching!
