Johnny's hand-sculpted dragon castle in this video is available for 3D printing as part of his current 'Gloaming Swamps and Wilderness' campaign on Kickstarter: www.kickstarter.com/projects/printablescenery/the-gloaming-swamps/description
Amazing video Adam. I bought the Hagglethorn Hollow stl's and have used the watch tower, vegetable patches and lovers pool printed at 75% on an OO Gauge model railway. The pieces are fantastic. Good luck Johnny.
I love how Johnny talks about how he's put things together and created these things. There isn't an ounce of gate keeping. Seeing these 2 guys just excitedly enjoying and sharing all this is amazing
It’s refreshing to find artists and creators that’s don’t “gate keep” techniques. I’ve also realized that a vast majority of the DnD enthusiasts are extremely welcoming. I don’t personally embark on campaigns, but I happily make minis and landscapes for my close friends
Agreed! He's so talented, I want that entire table! It was also neat to realize that there are other people who sometimes get lost admiring the scenery of a video game as much, if not more so, than gameplay.
I adore Johnny, his enthusiasm is infectious. It's like a kid pulling things out of his toy box and showing you what he made at school all rolled together. The mastery he shows is just unmatched. Having both really characterful and organic looking sculpture but still being seamlessly modular without looking repetitious is supremely non-trivial. 11:54 Ive referenced a lot of Tested for techniques in my hobby modeling but Adam discovering the joy of table top game in real time is just the icing on the whole thing 16:25 I'm going to have to find those now.
The first video adam did at weta about 3 and a half years ago was the video that got me into the hobby and then got me into dnd!! I’m so excited that this project is still going on and i can’t express my gratitude for how much i’m grateful for stumbling across the original video❤
I loved when things got real quiet and both of them were just meticulously and lovingly arranging moss and such...it was very peaceful to watch and still engaging. Overall such a fun video! And Johnny's work is just magnificent!
Back in the 80s as a teenager I created something like this out of HO scale train modeling landscape materials for my D&D miniatures, although not in this large scale. Seeing this brings it all back. So cool...
Can i just say.. I looove how enthusiastic this guy is, he's like a kid showing dad the drawings they made, and i am here for it. so good to see someone who just fucking loooves what they're doing
I'm not a gamer of any type, but I would love to be the guy who sets up the gaming table using the elements that Johnny has created and then just let the players invent their own story/game!...Brilliant work!!!
As a gamer I can tell you now that table would be a nightmare to play on. Yeah it looks stunning but wargaming tables need to be relatively flat to be able to get the models to actually stand up. You would spend half the time trying to your models to not fall over and this would be even worse for games that need the models to be ranked up like classic Warhammer or Kings of War or historical games like Hail Caesar or Napoleonics. It would work as a skirmish table but anything more than that it is completely impractical.
"Anything I can do to avoid reality" 😄Yes! ❤❤❤ Omg. Ive just got 1:40 into the video and Im so excited. The previous video Johnny was in is one of my all-time favorites. SO impressive and since I saw it the first time I've shared it with everybody who'd listen. (And some who won't, but might be persuaded?) So amazing! Ok! lEts heat my tea and lets watch this... 😍 Edit: Omg. Im almost crying here... And Adam at 5:28 and 18:22. I agree!(!!)
I would love to have a tiny camera on a stick that could be inserted into such a world and just walk it around. I would love to imagine the immersive fantasy life into such a walkthrough. Oh, please, O please, O please make a walkthrough camera vid like that. It would be so wondrous it could make me cry for the joy of it all.
*shakes head* every time i see stuff that johnny makes i wanna throw money at the screen and shout take my money. Every sculpt looks so beautiful, and it really makes me imagine the massive world each piece is part of. Such epic work i cant wait to see he comes up with next.
Its a testament to what a great artist Johnny is, that myself and so many others in the comments who dont game watched the full video and found the pieces shown and explanations behind them to be super exciting and clever.
I was so excited when I saw Johnny in the thumbnail, everytime hes on tested, he shows off what him and his friends are up to. and its always exciting stuff. well done Johnny keep being you. 🎉
Please make this a regular series with each new Printable Scenery's release. I didn't know watching two guys place scatter terrain on a pre-built board would be so enjoyable.
Def the best designed miniature buildings out there. I feel a lot of sculptors who make buildings for tabletop (3D STLs in particular) forget that buildings need character too. THESE buildings have character! Cant' wait till I get some myself.
It is good enough. I generally complain about most 3d print models, but bought this right away. It's awesome to be able to have something with this much detail and style.
I am not a tabletop player, but i can imagine that this would be a gamechanger for so many people. Both as merch and something on a shelf but also as tabletop gamepieces. The artwork is amazing. I played 40k many years ago and i would have loved stuff of this quality in the 40k setting. Its amazing!
I've been painting since 93 and this terrain is pretty amazing - its compact but unfolds into something crazy. i wish i could one day paint something for adam savage :D would be somethingl ike a bucket list life goal ^^
That terrain is AMAZING!!!!! Like, lifetime goal to put a table like that together for my friends amazing. Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing Adam.
Oh my friggin goodness! Love, love, love how that piece came together to form a dragon! Each are fantastic on their own , but together - just stunning! Love the whole video. It's great when a world builder builds for aesthetics and line of sight gameplay. This is magnificent!
As a fan of Warhammer and a Kiwi, first the obligatory "ouch my wallet". I am stoked to see someone not only making high quality miniature environments, but also made for a range of systems, well still being crafted with easy of use in mind. Incredible work.
Quite amazing, it looks really sturdy. I have seen a few youtube makers, and it really surprises me how they incorporate magnets and be so creative that it becomes another hobby.
Building that set together reminds me when I and my peers would get together in the backyard with an assortment of Matchbox cars, rocks, sand, bits of driftwood and basically destroy mom's loquat tree landscaped area making underground garages, houses, and roads. Good times.
What is it about us Kiwis and our passion for making awesome stuff? We are surrounded by all this natural beauty every day... oh... yeah, that's actually it. We live in a mystical set of islands at the world's far end where magic is real. It's all true.
That moss trick! I've been trying to figure out how to blend terrain pieces for so long! And in application like this, you don't even need that much. I saw a couple places where you could just leave the gaps and they look like warrens or erosion around the tree roots!
Wow that is amazing, inspiring work! NEED TO BUILD! Off to Rona for some 3" wall insulation foam! Oh and duct tape eh? Also believe it or not Ontario Dollarama has moss that's decent (for floral/crafts). It's becoming a golden age for tabletop gamer/makers! Huzzah! Happy rolling!
Its great to see you showing some tabletop gaming stuff on your channel :D Watching this reminded my of my old Star Wars Legion Endor setup I made years ago, and now have the urge to get back into making terrain again.
God I love the hagglethorn terrain they've made. It's ny favorite kind of weird/unique fantasy that just takes me back to the first time I ever watched Labryinth and The Dark Crystal.
20:30: First and last video games I ever purchased were Myst and Riven. I would have happily foregone figuring out the mysteries in place of just having more islands to explore the landscapes and architecture and all the mechanics in those games. Not even sure I remember how they ended, but vividly recall the the lamp works and the lake with the sea creatures. Gorgeous. This reminds me of that only in 'reality' rather than as a video. 20:44: Yes! Guilty of same! I got the cheat books for Myst and Riven just so I could wander around that jungle island sooner! Guilty, but not guilt-ridden! 😉
One of the best gaming experiences I have EVER had to explore the world. The Discovery Tours on Assassins creed which are also being used in universities etc now.

These are so cool but they launched with real magnet and some paint issues. Have they fixed these two areas?
You better should come to @Zorpazorp
Amazing video Adam.

Curse of a Maker haha, I understand the need to touch lol!
And Johnny instantly taking it from him. :D

If I were independently wealthy and had a regular tabletop gaming group I can see getting into warhammer etc. but it can get pretty expensive.
