No, I hadn’t yet read the book. I had issues with Kim’s professional integrity when Kim put P’s hair up for sale. Your review only serves to confirm my concerns. I will not be lining Kim’s pocket with my funds. The saddest part is, Kim has in her a fascinating story that ONLY she can tell, the one the Purple Family wanted to hear. Truly a wonderful opportunity flushed down the “hair dresser’s sink”.
According to Prince Vault, Tonya Thompson was Prince's stylist throughout 1993 (Act 2 tour, www.princevault.com/index.php?title=Act_II . I am so happy you are truthful. Unfortunately, there are so many people exploiting his legacy, privacy, and the non disclosure agreements. I hope his heirs begin to act on the copyright of his image, and his glyph. As he worked hard to get where he was as an artist.
Did you ever think that the word duplicity was left as is because the person that did the proofing felt her to be in fact duplicitous? Just a thought.....
I hadn't intended on buying this book. I too would've loved history of how the different looks came about and the process. I'll get it at the dollar store when i see it there.
Not what we want to see or read about. Feel sorry for those who crowd funded for her to get this book out. Duplicity perfect description for this. Thanks for the review 😊
@@PrincesFriend yeah she let's herself down real shame. A book about all the iconic styles and how and why they came to be would of been so much better.
I was taken in by her story telling when I met her in April 2018. I was one who participated in the crowd funding. I wish on many levels now that I didn't. BTW, I still haven't recieved my promised signed copy of the book from her as part of the crowd funding.
I am just seeing this video for the first time, most of the fans who bought this book have been saying how bad the book is on Facebook. One fan said there was so much misinformation in the book about Prince, it was making her mad. I am not buying this book at all. My impression Kim Berry put this book out to make money off Prince's legacy.
This. Book. Could. Have. Been. AMAAAAAAZING. I kept an open mind even after the hair auctioning stunt and planned on buying the book. Not anymore. Thanks for the review. I trust your judgement and discernment. PS - I just can't with the retelling of Prince and Mayte's tragedy. 😡 GEEZ.
No I am not going to buy this book .I have been told by my Fam friends how bad it is .Also I looked on Amazon U.K. and read the reviews .They were mostly bad 1 or 2 stars as you said .I didn't imagine it would turn out very well, as I have seen video of Kim Berry talking .Her personality comes across as flitting around conversations and never finishing off what she starts .Yes she was a brilliant hairdresser for Prince ,lots of beautiful styles ,but a writer NO .
I have many books on Prince, but I don't think this will be one of them. I have heard a lot of people bash this book. You did not do that. You simply told us what you thought. Good job Eloy. Thank you for keeping me from making a mistake.
Gotta tell ya - this interview was pretty spot-on. A little too diplomatic, though, if you ask me. Too many inconsistencies, and dry snitching in the book. Wonder why she didn't mentioned she got canned for screwing his hair up one too many times. She wasn't with him for 29 years. At all.
I read it, few times, only a short book but I re-read it after reading it in one evening! Overall, it was good, I learnt a lot. I like the cover picture. It's like it's been run through a spell checker that doesn't make sense in places.
Thanks for this review. I had no plans of purchasing Kim's book, wouldn't even read it for free. It seems to be pretty much what I expected from her well hyped project.
I read Maytes book. I thought it was fairly candid about their relationship. I really felt sorry for her in some aspects of her story and I think probably it was for most part very true. I have always felt until Prince was much older he was probably very hard to live with once the honeymoon phase was over and the newness wore off. Since he totally created her and Emanuella he should have known what he was getting. I feel a sadness for Prince for not having children. I would have thought he would have had them with second wife she had a child with Eric Bonet. I feel Prince was a genius but very unhappy. As he got older all the muses well enough said. Beautiful man genius musician and writer great friend but sad very sad.
Depends on who is telling his story, scorned ex lovers and ppl disappointed by him make him seem sad and lonely but people that enjoyed him and had a decent experience don’t. Everyone experiences loneliness to a degree, heard of celebrities battle through it. I think he had a rich life and had some hard times during different seasons like us all. And the last 20 years of his life were without Mayte so she has no idea. I do believe he felt grounded in his faith and more mature relationships he developed
What the author does not understand is both exes were communicating with each other. The one thing she forgot to address is how felt concerning certain items getting in the wrong hands. That is particularly what upset Prince. It is troubling that she minimizes his feelings when he was misunderstood for having female friends.
One thing 's 4 sure, is likely how the 2nd ex stole Prince from Mayte. She always wanted him, and listened to folks on how to get her hands on him. No one suspected her at first, but she found out from the first ex that their marriage was shaky, and started flirting hard to get Prince to notice.
When I watched Hollywood Exes with Mayte, Manuella was in at least one episode and they said they still keep in contact. That’s the only input I have to add to this.
Omg...Thanks for the review....I was excited at first about the book idea after watching Kim B. give heartfelt interviews right after Prince passing, about her life growing up with Prince over the many years......In the end sounds like quick cash over quality....
I appreciate your honesty. The hype around the book gave a very different spin on what the book would entail and that’s not it. This is a big reason why the interview with Kim didn’t happen at Celebration. Prince guided you to a better opportunity instead. I’m really glad he did. 🙏🏽⭐️👍🏽 cause that would’ve been not the quality of material you want for the channel.
Kim Berry IS ONE OF THE KEYS ( Historical) IN PRINCE LIFE...and, SUGGESTIVELY, should re-write, edit and re-publish...BUT with someone more certified...Well thought out...more specialized who ask the right questions having a captured vision of what should be presented to the public...Both Kim and Prince deserve that much. They both are and were PROFESSIONALS at their best...Often times...to master the perfection to get a good story out...persons would go to an English professor at a near-by University or technical institution...depending on cost...and most importantly, dedication...Research and time is an essence keeping in mind...this type of Publishing is going to be on shelves and in someone treasured collection for generations to come...Hair Stylist...their hair styles are the creative side of their careers...their success...US/NC c/c
Thanks for doing this review. I have never planned to buy this or any other Prince related books of myself. The only book I wanted was the one Prince and his brother were writing. Although it is incomplete I am interested to read what is there.
@@PrincesFriend I am sure there are... but that is how I feel. No disrespect to anyone or judging they are making money off of Prince's passing or anything like that. I just remember how excited I was when I heard Prince say he was writing that book with his brother. But somehow in my memory I remember him saying he completed it. Like the only thing left was to review it and such.
Oh wow I didn't realize that. Im definitely not supporting anyone who would do that. She was blessed 2 work with such greatness. Thx u guys 4 the insight an as always thx PR 4 the receipts👨🏾💻😁Much love💜
First, let me just say I am a book snob. I love and adore books just as much as I adored Prince. The structure of them, the font selection, the jacket design, etc. When I searched for this book on Barnes and Nobles site and didn't find it, I took pause. I did find Prince's auto-biography on the B&N site. Also, when I saw this book only came out in paperback, my book snob instincts kicked in. This book review helped me realize I made the right decision. I can't buy a poorly written book even if it is about Prince. I have Morris Day's book and I'm loving it. Now I will watch the review of Mayte's book.. Thanks for the thorough review.
I think they wanted to evoke the dichotomy of her life with Prince. I wouldn't buy it anyway. I heard her interviews. It's not intriguing enough. I do respect her trajectory. Thank you for not sugar coating it review. Thanks for sharing with us.
When I heard about the book (pre fund raising) I was excited and would often seek out where in the process the book was. I was definitely on the road to a purchase. Then she tried to sell his hair and I was done. This act of pure greed really affected my opinion of the author. So happy to hear an honest review of its content. I wish I could be nice yet i can't, I'm overjoyed it's a trainwreck and I wish upon my purple loving heart that she just goes away now. Thank you PF for the review 💜
Eloy Lasanta I thank u 4 your honesty✌ U truly embody integrity and character. I, myself, do not purchase books written about Prince after he went home nor books not authorized by Prince himself prior to him returning home. If I want 2 know anything about Prince, I simply put the needle on his records. I suggest others 2 do the same. Prince says it all within his notes and lyrics. Much 💜 & Respect 2 U My Friend ✌ #PrincesFriend
Cheers to you Sonia! I do enjoy a good book here and there, but usually it’s to learn about the writer. For instance, Mayte’s book was about HER. And obviously Prince is a part of that story, but it wasn’t necessarily about him. That’s the approach I like.
It sounds like majority of what's in Kim's book I basically already know ..Kim.did a podcast that was over 1hour long and she talks about when she first met Prince and the different hairstyles she did for his hair..Kim.also talked about how he needed someone real around him and that's what she was .yes he was a little womanizer...but I don't get WHY she ended her book talking about his marriage to Mayte . that should've been more so in the middle of her book ..Sorry I don't get that part.. Kim's book does sound like its un organized...Maybe Kim should've ended her book on how Prince told her a couple of yrs b4 he died he wasn't going to need her as much cuz he was going to wear his hair natural ..and how she found out about his death..I think that would've made more sense ..just MY opinion.
Duplicity 😭 wow...I have the book, didn’t read it yet but wish it was more about the hair styles and how they came up with the looks based on your review. Not about all the drama in the life of and gossip...thought this was gonna be about the hair and the looks...dayum!! 😂🤦🏾♂️ idk if I even wanna read the book now if it’s just chunks of all the biographies and not about what it should’ve been about.
Kim contradicts Mayte's own account of her pregnancies, dates. People have actually been expecting Mayte to call her out on social media. Not sure why she would though if she's already written her own book. Mayte also seems to be close to her mother, who is not flatteringly portrayed in the book.
Thank you for the book review. I didn’t know Kim Berry’s book was out already, good to know. I’m debating whether or not if i want to buy the book after your excellent review, however i’ll probably buy the book since it has to do with Prince😁💜
A HUGE thank u!!! I read the PDF (was NOT buying this!!) LOVE how U let some of us know what duplicity means(I know what it means lol) but its always nice when someone else SPEAKS a word so it has to be heard/understood and not just read...Thank u and good job as always!!!😁
To be fair, the word duplicity has a few different meetings. And in the context of the quote, it does technically makes sense. But a good editor would have asked her to change that word, since the main and most common usage of the word duplicity is two-faced.
Omg u hit the nail on the head with what we expected. The cover is the best part. Pics were horrible inside. This could've been so much more abt his hair and stories. I skipped a lot of her banter, she kept going back and forth. Still trying to get through it. Thanks for yr review
I have not read the book as yet. However, despite the not so positive opinions I just might give it a shot. It may help me fill in some gaps as to who Prince was. After reading Maytes book, which made me laugh & cry I'm anticipating the same from Kim.
This was a great review! Thank you. I’ve read her book already, and you’re absolutely on point. In Kim’s defense, her stream of consciousness reminds me of how Prince made his movies. I wonder how Prince’s memoir would have ended up. He’s very much in control of his work...so no ghostwriter for our Purple dude. I’m sure his writing would have been slammed by critics too, but I prefer a grammatically incorrect book full of misspellings written by Prince rather than a bland cookie cutter ghostwriter book. 🎶.
I think Prince would have the good sense to make sure a good editor made the book presentable. That’s like saying prince wouldn’t do any production on a song. All the pieces are needed to make it a workable thing. Hope that makes sense.
Excellent review. Padded for certain and absolutely needed major proofreading and copy editing. Had she chosen to discuss herself in relation to her time with him that would have been cool. I agree that no one need tell the story of Prince and Mayte and their child and life together except for Mayte since Prince is not here. What a heartbreaking time for them. With the padding including photos, tips on hair care, etc this was a very, very light book. Thanks for the thorough review. Well done!
@@PrincesFriend yeah i liked knowing what products he used actually. Knowing how she worked with him and focusing on that would have been cool. Have a fantastic Florida day!!!!
I was interested in buying the book but only if it was done in sequence. By that I mean every year, how she styled his hair, what he wore , etc. Etc. From your review I would never buy it. Maybe at the dollar store. She should've never rushed to make this book. Instead she should've sat back and planned it out year by year. It takes awhile to write an interesting memoir of someone. Sure she wrote her story but I wanted to buy it because of HIM. She should not have rushed it. She should've taken her time and thought about her interaction with him. The part about Prince and Mayte's baby gets my goat. GRRRRRRR. Only if he spoke to her the sadness and anguish he felt should she then had said anything. Otherwise it was not her place to share Mayte's story. That was Mayte's own story. Thank you PF for another great review.
I just finished reading her novel. I felt that there was alot of his "stage life" was not written about. i would like to have seen more write ups, and pictures of his hair dos, and some history about Prince*s family. I did like reading this novel , bc it is my quiet hour. There is so much more about his life, and we as common day people would not understand. Stardom has a price. My favorite quote-# 24 -Page 182 ' When something on the inside of you connects with what*s happening outside of you, it*s a sign that a portion of your life is a part of the solution.'
I really enjoy your insite on the book . When I read the book it reminded me of a high schooler writing a book report and not noting sources just putting enough to get a complete on words , but no new information or insite.. ty ..new sub
That must be a very interesting book to read. She and prince must’ve had very great friendship w/ each other than her just being his hairstylist. Very great and interesting insight. And I also love he title, “Diamonds and Culrz” since she a hairstylist of prince. Thanks so much for sharing, PF! That was an awesome review! I give this a thumbs up.😄👍
I wish the overall review of the book could’ve been more positive. There really are a couple of really cool little gems in this book, but it’s just a mess generally
WoW😮 thanks for sharing your thoughts on this book. I imagined this was going to be a light fun read about his hair and fashion. Sounds like a lot of private conversations being disclosed ?
Prince's Friend Oh Dear..that’s not great.. We all hopefully have friends and confident’s who we love because they keep private conversations close to their chest but if Kim has blown this trust, it don’t sound nice and I’m not sure if I want to read it..smh
Although I agree the part about Prince’s Mum’s could be interesting in that he never spoke about her only to say he got his wild side from her. And Manuela wanting Kim sacked ? Is this interesting lol Thanks for another great review😄
John Moore why did you enjoy it ? It’s pretty sad when his hair dresser and what he assumed to be a friend turns out to be a two faced gossip. Sometimes we say things about our parents that we don’t mean, I know I do. My Mum drives me mad sometimes but I love her dearly.
John Moore thing is Kim is a hair dresser..no disrespect but she’s a hair dresser, not a fashion stylist, a hair dresser😂😂Well done Kim👏👏except for the Typhoon.
Great job! When you put up the book segment I saw "....duplicity at its best..." and just shook my head. Amateurish, I'll maybe skim through the interesting parts you cited next time I'm in Powell's City of Books. But I won't be buying a copy for sure.
I was waiting for your review before reading the book. I had a feeling your review was going to go the way it did because of the review on the Prince Podcast. They didn’t give the book a favorable review either. I’m sorry that it wasn’t better. I won’t take the time to read the book. Thank you for your honest review. I hope Ms. Berry can learn from it.
Honesty is the best policy. I don’t know if she’ll get the chance for a second take though. It may be the last lesson for then venture. It only takes one failed book for most writers sadly
Prince's Friend: Very true. I am a former editor of academic books in Norway. As you say, an editor's job is to help the authour to structure and make the book as good as possible. But as I experienced it, sometimes you also have to save the author from her/himself. They don't always realize how their themes/words come across. I think Kim made a big mistake not putting money into hireing a professional editor. She will not get another chanse to prove herself, I am afraid.
I was waiting for this review! It sounds like it's all over the place. As his hairdresser, I would've thought she'd stick with her strength of doing his hair. Their friendship & of course, all his hairstyles for the videos/photo shoots/album covers/tours (Great photos) that maybe we haven't seen from a personal perspective like in the chair when she was done. The cover photo would've been great of the pic in Paris?, with him taking a photo of the paparazzi trying to take a photo of him with Kim standing off to the side. Maybe also how she structured her work doing multiple people on tour (ex. How Prince was at one end & she'd be running back & forth to the other end to do everybody else's hair/elaborating on setup in other places like finding a salon to rent out & having all the windows blacked out & how the car would pull up in the back for Prince to go in/ how she started & her "interview" being doing others hair THEN Prince saying she got the job because he wasn't going to let her mess his hair up & being told by him he's tender headed & had to get rid of those nails & she popped them off right in front of him/ how she dealt with tense tines of him not speaking & still having to work with him. I didn't expect what others have covered. I just thought it would be their friendship/her boss/her skillz & the fascination you know we all have with his hair including having to cut it when it was long & what I heard that he liked it short & said long hair only looks good when it's blowing while he played the guitar.🤣. I'm sad its not that. It sounds like a money grab THANK YOU for the review Friend. PRINCELUV4EVER!!!😙
Have u ever considered interviewing her? Getting her side, her take? She’s a hair dresser for 20 plus years, she may not be as prolific as some authors. She may not have the same resources some people in the industry have, which is maybe why she had to sell her things because she was suddenly not working for her main boss...
I was supposed to interview Kim at Celebration but she did not show up. That not withstanding, my review is of the book as a book so an interview wouldn’t necessarily change my thoughts on the content or presentation.
Thanks for this critical analysis of Kim Berry's book. I think I would get it if it wasn't so dang expensive, since it sounds a bit convoluted and amateurish. Some it sounds compelling though. Helpful review!
She’s been with him for a long time, she has so many stories but she talks about his private life with Mayte? So wrong, her mom and son is her business. 0/10 💔💔💔👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽
Just watched your video about Kim’s book. Very well said. Especially, about telling other people’s stories and talking about their kids. It made me a little mad too cause of my dance bond with M. I felt like Kim did Prince’s hair on a regular bases, her hands were in his hair she couldnt come up with her own stories or her side of the story. SMH! I also agree it was all over the place. Im glad you were able to follow to give us a good review cause I couldn’t, lol.
I agree. She hints at what could have been some amazing stories at the end of the book and I was sitting there saying “why didn’t you write THOSE instead?” Also, since she was independently publishing and wasn’t up to anyone’s deadlines but her own, the excuse so many people have given of “she just couldn’t fit them into the book” rings false. She could make it as big as she wanted.
I feel sorry for Kim. She seems to have gotten over her head on this one. She reportedly did shop her book proposal around to publishers, but none of them wanted it and passed. While she had people around her, none seem to have been book editors or people in the publishing business I feel so sorry for her. She obviously has a talent working with hair, but because of this potential clients may think twice about working with her. I believe if there’s as much here say in the book as is been reported, Prince would be so hurt and disappointed. Kim may have thought her finished product had more selling power and the people advising her oversold the product back to her and everyone else. Will not be reading. Sorry Kim, you seem like a nice lady
Thanks for your review. I won't buy this book, in particular because she talked about the sad story of the poor son of Prince. It was and is an intimate episode of the life of people the only authorised to talk about. Respect for private life of Prince and His first wife.
UA-camr GATURKS says: @ 6:41 I paused and started reading... on top of describing her as duplicit, it also states that she has been around the "WORD" twice 🤔.
I’ve read it ,& sadly it’s not good . It’s very light on reading material, odd cover ,there is some interesting parts in the book ,couple of cool stories but it mixes her stories with prince & does reveal a lot of what we already know but never deep diving. Always jumping around back and forth . The feeling is that not everything has been told ,it’s not well put together,it needed better editing,it’s not organised and lacks focus which is a shame because we could have had a more revealing book from his personal hairdresser and not telling other people’s stories ... I’m a hairdresser and I could really expose what confidentially I’ve been told first hand from my celebrity clients . This book could have been this ,and not someone else’s stealing other people’s stories of what life was like with P. This is what we would have all loved to know .
Prince's Friend you are who you are ,and my go to Prince friend . Been a friend since 1980 ,and lovely to hear someone who expresses in a similar way to myself . Lots of love and blessings from the UK ,and a fellow P friend . 💟
I have not read the book but grom what i hear. Her writing wad not good. She should have talked about the diffrent hairstyles she created for Prince and other relevant things.
She really needed a publisher it sounds like. If she talked more about his iconic looks, personal stories and conversations with Prince THEN her experience of his death, it would be better than what you described. He trusted her obviously. I hope she kept that salon...because trying to sell his hair at auction was despicable imo.
@@PrincesFriend Seems she has had troubles with her cosmetology licence / salon, on probation from 2009, etc. www.barbercosmo.ca.gov/enforcement/actions_a_c.shtml The First Lady Elite Salon - www.barbercosmo.ca.gov/enforcement/actions_t_v.shtml He helped her purchase her salon and tells a very folksy tale about Prince walking into the salon to get his hair done like any other client..."but that was Prince -- always wanting to be normal." Prince put in a home salon (of course), among other not so normal modifications - theundefeated.com/features/that-time-former-nba-all-star-carlos-boozer-almost-sued-prince/
I listened to her talk about Prince saying how they were such good friends and she wasn't a "Yes" person and could tell him how it goes... what bothered myself is why didn't she help him...💔
I pre-ordered - wish I hadn't - FINALLY got it. I tried to cancel it also but no response from Kim. Amazon had it cheaper and after reading the reviews I really wish that I could've gotten a refund........
You were FAR too kind in your review. This "book" is EVERYTHING she promised for months it would not be. I agree with your review 100%. ...still too kind though. I give it a. -2 stars.... It was a total betrayal of Prince. Bad enough she felt the need to plagiarize Mayte's book and personal story, the things she said about his mother....MORE than once ... Whether true or false, that in my opinion is the ultimate betrayal, but definitely not the only one. She said in the beginning he was cremated 3hrs after he died....which isn't true. Everything went downhill for me from there.
Kim Berry spoke badly about Prince' mother? *Never* speak down about anyone's parents or the dead , but to speak ill of Prince' mother ?! What is she evil ? Well, she's taken a loss on her character, which is more important than monetary, which *definitely* is taking a big loss!
I do try to be fair in all things. I’m judging it as a book, not on my personal feelings about kim berry. That said, it’s totally fair for others to do so. Everyone needs to make their own minds up imo. 💜
@@wisdomseeker3362 exactly! Prince's parents are the reason why Prince was here with us. I'm grateful to them for that 😉. So I can't speak badly about them.
I was excited to get this book once it came out but now I’m not to sure if I wanna pick it up. Just the fact that it’s not a book that’s a clear perspective of her story and it’s just her “what I heard was” story plus telling other people’s story instead Of her own just makes my excitement for the book not so good I’m happy she wrote a book but I think they need to go back and edit it the right way so it makes sense.
Prince's Friend that is the question. It would be great to take back and fix it plus add more from her perspective would make it a lot better. I love the concept of each chapter and how it goes with a diamond but there has to be some flow and understanding of each chapter.
Marcel Zachary I want more Prince books. It’s my guilty pleasure. I still find Prince to be a mystery despite all the new info about him and the stories people say about him. Its like Citizen Kane saying “rosebud”. Inquiring minds wanna know🤔
@@sunnypie2 💜 Oh My Goodness, you're putting a classic movie like Citizen Kane in the same category with that tabloid rag The National Enquirer?!!! LOL💜
I guess we all looked at this book differently... it wasn’t what it could’ve been because she didn’t have a publisher. I didn’t get very mad about the Aiimir part... though before reading it I thought I would. Obviously she must’ve spoken to Mayte before putting this in. I think Kim was trying to show how close she was to Prince and Mayte, but took it a bit too far? Yes, the Manuela part was “delicious☺️😉.”
I heard through the grapevine that she certainly did not check in with Mayte first. 2nd hand info, but that’s what I heard. I also wasn’t judging the book based on what it could have been, but what it is isn’t great. Pointing out ways it could have been improved hopefully makes her next book (if she does one) better
I have heard nothing good. I dont get it. The last 29 years of her life have been with Prince and she could only come up with 100+ pages? Somebody said 20 of those were pictures. Oh well.
she had the opportunity to make it a "great" book. I havent read it but very hurt about the reviews. I really expected to hear about her and Prince as friends. I really feel said for Kim, it breaks my heart to hear the poor reviews...it would have been a fantastic book....
Bahaaaaa! Spelling errors.....Hilarious!!! No thanks, I'd rather wash my hair than read her book. She's a gossipy hairdresser , bless her. (It's a tacky way to make money out of his death.) Sorry.
I going to buy the BOOK and thank you, it good to other People versions especially when they were there to see their pain that gives confirmation to Mayte story. And I’m glad to hear she did this book. Thanks
Everybody likes her book me and sister read I got first on my read part then got hard back from her book make u laugh and cry at same time I think didn't stay together because she was young that was part of
Thanks. A very well thought out and critical (the way a critique should be) review. Have you ever reviewed Dez's 2003 "My Time w/ Prince"? Thinking about tracking down a copy of that one.
@@PrincesFriend Yeah, it's one that I've always wanted to read...interested to hear Dez's perspective on being a part of the early years before everything really blew up. Great job (review) on this one...have to admit, a book by/about Prince's hairdresser doesn't really interest me that much regardless of what few "fly on the wall' insights she may provide. Thanks!
Love your honesty, I thought it would be about hair styles and what prince’s hair was like to keep care of.wow! The word duplicity got by them, I feel Mayte story should’ve been left with Mayte and like you said she did write a book.Any Prince fam didn’t need the story because we got it through Mayte. I don’t think I would like the jump around nature of the book. I can’t believe the whole Oprah interview is in there. Not good for someone who watches that interview a lot like I do, Manly because It’s a rare time for Prince to talk and the performances . I find it weird that someone that worked so long with him would have such few pages, maybe she did plan more books.

The saddest part is, Kim has in her a fascinating story that ONLY she can tell, the one the Purple Family wanted to hear. Truly a wonderful opportunity flushed down the “hair dresser’s sink”.
There were definitely some glimmers of hope but the books goes down hill after the second chapter sadly.
OMG! I forgot she sold Prince's hair. The fact that she kept his hair is crazy in itself. Lawd mercy!!
Wait she really did that?
kim berry is duplicity at its best. #nuffsaid

Well, damn.
LoL
U did more research than Kim.
I am so happy you are truthful. Unfortunately, there are so many people exploiting his legacy, privacy, and the non disclosure agreements.
I hope his heirs begin to act on the copyright of his image, and his glyph. As he worked hard to get where he was as an artist.
Bought it, read it, and regret it!
Did you ever think that the word duplicity was left as is because the person that did the proofing felt her to be in fact duplicitous? Just a thought.....
I mean, it’s a theory I guess lol
I hadn't intended on buying this book. I too would've loved history of how the different looks came about and the process. I'll get it at the dollar store when i see it there.
Not what we want to see or read about. Feel sorry for those who crowd funded for her to get this book out. Duplicity perfect description for this. Thanks for the review 😊
Thanks for checking it out dude. I wanted to like it, but I’m the end...
@@PrincesFriend yeah she let's herself down real shame. A book about all the iconic styles and how and why they came to be would of been so much better.
Exactly! If they had worked on this for maybe another 6 months or so would have helped as well.
@@PrincesFriend yeah deff a rush job by the sounds of it. And more to come...
I was taken in by her story telling when I met her in April 2018. I was one who participated in the crowd funding. I wish on many levels now that I didn't. BTW, I still haven't recieved my promised signed copy of the book from her as part of the crowd funding.
Thank you for reviewing this book. I'll leave this book alone. Certainly will not be buying this!
😡 GEEZ.
omg she' talked about Amir.........NOT COOL KIM
Very not cool
No I am not going to buy this book .I have been told by my Fam friends how bad it is .Also I looked on Amazon U.K. and read the reviews .They were mostly bad 1 or 2 stars as you said .I didn't imagine it would turn out very well, as I have seen video of Kim Berry talking .Her personality comes across as flitting around conversations and never finishing off what she starts .Yes she was a brilliant hairdresser for Prince ,lots of beautiful styles ,but a writer NO .
It’s very weird she didn’t add in her book when my mom took over as his stylist when she left for a couple of years
Yeah that part wasn’t in there.
Do tell because she makes it seem like her work with was continous.
I have many books on Prince, but I don't think this will be one of them. I have heard a lot of people bash this book. You did not do that. You simply told us what you thought. Good job Eloy. Thank you for keeping me from making a mistake.
Totally! That’s what I do here. Not trying to tear anyone down; just giving a critique
I almost purchased this book but, my gut said no and now I understand why. Thanks for the review. 💜
Thank you for checking out the video. 💜
Damn, I ordered this book, arriving today from Amazon. I will send it back!
A few times? Wow! Good on you.
He was very lonely.
Prince had an altered gene, his kids were never going to make it
What the author does not understand is both exes were communicating with each other. The one thing she forgot to address is how felt concerning certain items getting in the wrong hands. That is particularly what upset Prince. It is troubling that she minimizes his feelings when he was misunderstood for having female friends.
Don’t know where you got this idea ... Mayte and Manuela? Communicating with each other?? I can tell you doe a fact that is not true.
ADAM .HAMLIN Exactly 🎯
I had already lost interest in KB's book after learning of her attempt to sell a lock of Prince's hair. Thanks PF I appreciate your honest review.
Thank you for checking it out
@@PrincesFriend I wouldn't miss it 😊
I've been waiting 4 this! Thanks!🙂

There are some great books out there though. Lol
I was always skeptical about purchasing this book especially after being accused of wantin 2 sell a loc of his hair....allegedly. Thx 4 the review 💜
No problem. Always glad to give my thoughts to the community
Not alleged. It is true.
Its true. It wasn't until she got negative press and backlash from the purple fam that the item was pulled from auction.

Thanks for checking it out. And I’m glad to meet another book snob 😂
Thanks? 😂
@@PrincesFriend sorry, my "Thank you" got lost in the rant.
Thank you for the honest review 💜
Eloy Lasanta I thank u 4 your honesty✌ U truly embody integrity and character. I, myself, do not purchase books written about Prince after he went home nor books not authorized by Prince himself prior to him returning home. If I want 2 know anything about Prince, I simply put the needle on his records. I suggest others 2 do the same. Prince says it all within his notes and lyrics.
Much 💜 & Respect 2 U My Friend ✌

I was looking forward for this book. Haven't read yet. Thank you for the review.💗💜
You are so welcome! You may read it and get something out of it, but sadly it's overall a bit of a letdown
"And then you know what I heard..." Love it!
PF thank you for meaning of word Duplicity!! I never would have thought of looking it up. GOOD JOB.
I’ve seen two interviews with Kim and to be honest, she came off as a gossip and that was my reason for my early decision not to buy her book
Thank you for this review. I will avoid buying this book. She shouldn't have said anything about Mayte and Princes' son Amiir.
I still want to read her book, despite the bad reviews. I wonder if Mayte gave her blessing on the book, I believe they may be friends?
Kim contradicts Mayte's own account of her pregnancies, dates. People have actually been expecting Mayte to call her out on social media. Not sure why she would though if she's already written her own book. Mayte also seems to be close to her mother, who is not flatteringly portrayed in the book.
Cristil lin Oh, ok. I didn't hear all that. I'm still going to buy the book though.
Thank you for the book review. I didn’t know Kim Berry’s book was out already, good to know. I’m debating whether or not if i want to buy the book after your excellent review, however i’ll probably buy the book since it has to do with Prince😁💜
That’s fair. Just don’t expect a great book. Lol
I just received the book from Amazon a couple days ago but I have not start reading it yet, but i will soon.😁

Thanks for the heads up. I just wanted to know what the glitter looking stuff was in his hair.
Omg u hit the nail on the head with what we expected. The cover is the best part. Pics were horrible inside. This could've been so much more abt his hair and stories. I skipped a lot of her banter, she kept going back and forth. Still trying to get through it. Thanks for yr review
It is a little all over the place but if you already own it there are some good bits hidden underneath the chaos. Fight through it
I have not read the book as yet.
Prince's Friend yes you make perfect sense, but you know our Prince! Lol. He’s notorious for doing everything himself. 😆.
Well done!
thanks Dr. Clare! I thought the hair tips were a nice touch. Like, more of those would have been awesome, imo.
I thought it would have been about how he decided his hair styles in each era. 😎 Won't be buying. Btw enjoy your reviews👏
thanks for watching!
Thanks, fam. I'll pass on this one. 🙅🏿♀️
This book is horrendous...especially regarding his mom
Great review. Thanks.
I really enjoy your insite on the book . When I read the book it reminded me of a high schooler writing a book report and not noting sources just putting enough to get a complete on words , but no new information or insite.. ty ..new sub
I could see that 😂 “very very very very very much”
That must be a very interesting book to read.
Prince's Friend yeah, I agree. I’d say it’d be a really good book and it should get more recognition it deserves.
Looks like a good read happy Sunday to you hope you have a blessed day my friend like your t-shirt 💜💜💜💜😀😀🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for your review. Sounds like its all over the place!
WoW😮 thanks for sharing your thoughts on this book.
I imagined this was going to be a light fun read about his hair and fashion.
Sounds like a lot of private conversations being disclosed ?
That was what I was hoping for... and then it was the latter, yup.
Is this interesting lol
Thanks for another great review😄
John Moore why did you enjoy it ?
It’s pretty sad when his hair dresser and what he assumed to be a friend turns out to be a two faced gossip.
Sometimes we say things about our parents that we don’t mean, I know I do. My Mum drives me mad sometimes but I love her dearly.
John Moore thing is Kim is a hair dresser..no disrespect but she’s a hair dresser, not a fashion stylist, a hair dresser😂😂Well done Kim👏👏except for the Typhoon.
It’s free for Amazon Prime members. If I could unsee/read it I would.
Hahahahah! 😂
I wonder if the book is still on the shelf after your review 😃😃😃😃
I didn’t sell it or anything but I haven’t picked it up again since then
WOWWW!! I loved your honest opinion!!! Thank you.
Thank you! Always honest here 😂
Great job! When you put up the book segment I saw "....duplicity at its best..." and just shook my head. Amateurish, I'll maybe skim through the interesting parts you cited next time I'm in Powell's City of Books. But I won't be buying a copy for sure.
FANTASTIC!
The book should be renamed my thoughts and feelings about my boss Prince.
Your right about her two face personality.
It sounds like a money grab
THANK YOU for the review Friend.
PRINCELUV4EVER!!!😙
Thanks for checking out my review.
She tried to sell his hair and brush. It was always about money
@@justicetruthforprince6459 Really? That's very disappointing.
True!
I love your channel and really like ur interview style...
I think it would be interesting....
Thank you for being so honest with your review 💜💜
Prince's Friend Exactly. I just didn’t get why she put out this book. Oh well.
Sorry Kim, you seem like a nice lady
yeah, with some love and professional care it could have been good.
Oh lawd. Yeah, totally needed another edit. Geez lol 😂
@@PrincesFriend poor lady .... if Prince liked her... we just gotta over look the craziness lolol...
Well summarized. Didn’t take you 10 minutes to say it all lol 😂
Prince's Friend you are who you are ,and my go to Prince friend .

Lots of love and blessings from the UK ,and a fellow P friend .

I have not read the book but grom what i hear. Her writing wad not good. She should have talked about the diffrent hairstyles she created for Prince and other relevant things.
💜Hey you're clients told you those things in confidence, lol! What we can't trust our hair stylist too!💜
She really needed a publisher it sounds like. If she talked more about his iconic looks, personal stories and conversations with Prince THEN her experience of his death, it would be better than what you described. He trusted her obviously. I hope she kept that salon...because trying to sell his hair at auction was despicable imo.
I wish she had talked more about the salon. She tells one story and then moves on to more salacious material

I pre-ordered - wish I hadn't - FINALLY got it. I tried to cancel it also but no response from Kim. Amazon had it cheaper and after reading the reviews I really wish that I could've gotten a refund........
The Podcast really went in on her, they seemed shook about her opinions of Prince now put in a book. I think everyone is shook up.
The... first... line... really? Damn. She didn't even have one friend who could have read the book and caught that error?
It was not well edited or proofed no 😔
You were FAR too kind in your review.
@@wisdomseeker3362 she said she was a drug addict who went dated man after man
@@PrincesFriend absolutely.
An edit and restructure would do then good but I wonder if it’s too late for take backs
Prince's Friend that is the question. It would be great to take back and fix it plus add more from her perspective would make it a lot better. I love the concept of each chapter and how it goes with a diamond but there has to be some flow and understanding of each chapter.
How many Prince books are there going to be?I say listen to his music to define the artist that he should be called.
Probably lots. I think they’re fun.
LOL💜
Purple Flowers yes I did! 🤭✅
Marcel Zachary Agreed.
Thanks
No problem
Great critique. You did a good job. Side note:Now i have to except this book as it was pre ordered for me...jeez....knowing it sucks.
Well if you already paid for it, then read it. Lol
The best one was mayte very good book
Don't believe I will be buying this book. Thankyou for the review.
Sure thing! It’s what I’m here for
Thank you for sharing! I'm disappointed but glad I didn't waste my money!! Loved Mayte's
Book!!!💜💜💜
💜
Everybody likes her book me and sister read I got first on my read part then got hard back from her book make u laugh and cry at same time I think didn't stay together because she was young that was part of
Thanks for the review PF. Is she the one who cut Prince hair? I'm thinking about buying the book.
Yup! That’s her
Thanks. A very well thought out and critical (the way a critique should be) review. Have you ever reviewed Dez's 2003 "My Time w/ Prince"? Thinking about tracking down a copy of that one.
Nope. Haven’t gotten my hands on a copy yet
Thanks!
Good book. Waiting for more
Yeah? I don’t know if sales were enough for her to release a second one. If she does, though, I’ll read it.
That “ mistake”was the truth anyway
Agree with all that 💜
