Awesome with a Boss Digital Effect pedal through the effects loop for Chorus and delay as well as two mild low overdrives in the front. Keeps up with my son on drums. He’s a very hard hitter. Very impressive.
I was torn between this and the Meteor II now that I'm getting back into jamming. My mind is made up now: this is the one. It has what I want for the new apartment.
The Meteor is a much better amp. The clean channel on this one has no character and sounds like a solid state practice amp. This thing has 250% more gain than you'll ever use. Ive never turned it past 4 except to show it off to someone. Gain past noon turns to mud and volume past noon loses all the dynamics. The good is that at low volume and gain, it does a great job at aping a MB Mk II. Ig get the Meteor, a cheap Tube Screamer clone for the front end and a 7 band EQ for the loop; if you're on a budget, I highly recommend the ENO 7 band, its the closest to the BOSS I've found for under $100.
I owned one of these about a year ago. I never could get it to push my 8Ω 4x12 cab. Signal was very "whompy" (bass), and mid and high freqs were almost nonexistent. I swapped out the 12AX7 for a Mesa Boogie 12SPAX7, and it increased gain barely. I couldn't get a usable tone out of it, so I sold it. 😞
That's too bad. It definitely needs a boost and EQ pedal. Tubes changes normally don't effect the tone of hybrid amps. I haven't tried the Zombie with a 4x12 yet, that's next for me. Seemed to push that 212 pretty well though.
@@JRs-guitars I don't know what happened, but it sounded really bad with my rig. I didn't expect much from a $180 hybrid anyway, but that was just plain awful.
@RagingSkeptic yea, speakers and pedals can make a huge difference. I wasn't even planning on keeping this thing, but since I seem to have the gear that works for it...mine as well.
I'll try to make a video on harmonics soon. But the only downside of the zombie amp is that you'll need a boost pedal and a decent speaker cab. If I didn't already have those, I'd go for a blackstar combo amp like the TVP or Silverline series.
@@JRs-guitarsThanks!! Those are very affordable!! Another question if you don't mind. Is there a way to have the EQ pedal start up when you turn the power on? My amp is across the room from where I play and want to do a EQ pedal in the FX Loop and turn it all on by switches where I play. Thanks!!
@bobjohnson5218 generally if you have everything on a powerstrip (depending on the pedal) and you turn the power strip on...they should turn on automatically. My noise gate does that.
I‘ve just bought a H&K 4x12 with g12L 35 celestions. Any chance that your 4x12 there has the same speakers? Read somewhere that they are close to greenbacks, but it sounds a bit muddy with my Zombie XL, so I‘m thinking TS instead of EQ in FX loop?
@decaenofficial my 412 has the greenbacks. The G12Ls are similar to the 70/80s but a little smoother. I'd highly recommend a TS or boost with gain at 0 out in front. A EQ in the loop is still a good idea later on to help tame certain frequencies.
@@JRs-guitars I‘ve got a Flamma FC07 OD, will give it a try Sunday! I really couldn‘t find many reviews of the G12L 35, but they seem nice, especially with cleans. Got the Cab for 90€.. Thanks for the reply!
There's a headphone jack you can use, but it's best to also keep the amp connected to at least a small speaker cab even when using headphones as it doesn't have an internal speaker.
EQ through the effects loop is a must on these, really opens up the tone capabilities.
I think it depends on the speakers...I really liked it with just a boost through Greenbacks, but with V30s I thought an EQ was needed for sure.
@@JRs-guitars yep, speakers definitely play in shaping tone, but EQ will allow you the easiest and cheapest way to dial in a sound IMO.
Foi isso que fiz , coloquei um equalizador no loop. Vale a pena e vc não quer mais desligar

Love the zombie with or without a boost ,i use it more than my MT-15
Yea, especially with the volume being more controlled compared to the MT15. But I prefer the boost for sure.
@@JRs-guitars I'm too lazy sometimes to hook it up tbh lol
Sounds great man, you could also use the fx loop to go into a power amp
Sick playing, great demo!
Thanks!
High gain at 5:50
Boost at 11:55
Best sub $200 amp out there.
Mine is being played thru a WGS 1X12 Veteran.

Glad I could help! Just FYI...if you use a speaker cab, V30 speakers make it sound pretty bass heavy.
Get both. They are both good.

This one is absolutely a killer. Damn!
Especially with a boost!
i love the zombie, so easy to dial in

Hybrid amps sound better in the yardsale
zombie likes 16ohm, the zombie1 i had sounded really good with any decent cab
I wish i could hit pitch harmonics the way he does effortlessly. I wanna get this and move up from my blackstar fly 3

Pretty good Demo!! I have the vol up as high as it goes and didn't hear what boost you're using.
Thanks! Sorry about that, I don't think I mentioned it but I'm using the Joyo Vintage overdrive pedal as a boost there.

H&K TM212 with V30 speakers.

I don't understand the difference between a Joyo and a an old Vox Tonelab. They both have a lamp and they both modelize sound
@ventures_gowest the Vox Tonelab was an effects processor. The Joyo Zombie is an actual amp head.
Hello, can you use this Joyo without a cab, like a combo amp ? Thanks for this review

At minute six i woke up 😳
So did the Zombie!
Don't give up yer day job!
