I don't think I've ever changed an alternator in a garage. Every one of them was in a parking lot - typically on the hottest day of the year. The luck o' the Irish, I guess.

+invisibleaznDJ you can do better but theres one thing about jeeps...the parts are cheap, so for every inch you want to lift and every o2 sensor or alternator you have to replace its like half the price of the toyota

I've changed alternators in a driveway and a garage but my off-loading hat is off to you guys. I pushed my 88 4runner with tires and wheels as the only upgrade.
As an old man, still love this!

There are several things on this video that deserve comments. Instead, I'd like to answer a question that was asked near the end, "What could be better?"
Answer: Driving some of those same roads during the week when there is hardly anyone around (i.e. other than during Safari Week) and camping overnight miles from the nearest paved road.
We have a book that lists four dozen back roads in the Moab area (and we've driven more than a dozen of them) but there are at least a couple dozen additional primitive roads within 50 miles of Moab that aren't even listed in the most popular guide books and aren't used by the Red Rock 4-Wheeler club during Easter Jeep Safari. If you like solitude, get the most detailed map(s) you can find. Then go explore.

Seems alternators always go out 8n the middle of nowhere. I had to drop my fuel tank to change out a fuel pump - also in the snow. Don't know what's worse, laying in the snow, or keeping a hammer handy to hit the tools frozen to the ground. Ahh, to be young again. Couldn't do that now.

I'm with Gray Man! \/ The best times I've ever had in Jeeps was when they were relatively stock and WERE A CHALLENGE. I've "overbuilt" more than one 4wd and it gets boring just pointing it at an obstacle and letting out the clutch, the Jeep then doing everything without any challenge. The only way to get that simple thrill in highly modified trail rigs is by adding substantial risk (read: upside down or crashing or worse). Keep having fun and the rubber side down. And sell me that Sahara for $5K!!!!!! I need another one to match the one I have!! =]

Good fun Tommy! Capturing the essence of a road trip! I'm sure you've been back here to Moab several times in the past couple years (since this vid was published), and there are several great moderates and light difficult trails for you and the guys to wheel on!!! Baby Lion's back is a GREAT and steep hill! If you haven't yet, turn around on the deck after the back side drop (stay out of the lake that forms back there ;) and climb the back side!! That's good steep fun!!! Fins is great, You'd get a kick out of Hell's revenge (as far as yuo dare to go, the ledgy exit can be the crux), and on oand on.

Im gonna bet not only ON the Toyota, and not against it, but Im gonna say that throughout your difflock series you are going to fix both of those jeeps 100 times and the 4runner will always be there for you, strong and going effortless at what ever you throw at it.
Time will tell, but I bet you will be thankful that you are not with 3 jeeps out there.
    Keep the series going!

I know this is a year old comment, but I had to reply... I've always been a "Jeep guy", I had a modded ZJ and was up until recently, dead set on getting a newish JKU. I've since decided I want an older rig I won't be afraid to wheel, and also that I won't have to wrench on every weekend, so I decided on..... a 3rd gen Runner like Matt's. Once I learned they can fit 32's stock, were available with a rear diff lock, and came with 4.30 gearing on the ones with the locker, I was sold. Now just to find one in New England that doesn't have a swiss cheese frame.
