Thank you for watching and HAPPY NEW YEAR! Thanks for all your support during the year, it's been a big year for us with coming to US, moving into the new boat and the big refit. Lots of work and a bit of stress but now we can look back at it and say "we did it!". You guys watching, commenting and being supportive of the project has cheered us along the whole way! Next year will have a lot more of actual SAILING, exploring and hopefully some skiing too. Can't wait!
HNY2023 to you both 🎩🧤🪩
Happy New Year to you and Sohvi, Juho. Looking forward to your adventures in 2023. The seals in the video looked like Harbor Seals. Large numbers of them are resident in the Bay area year round. The California Sea Lion, also seen in the Bay area, migrates.
Happy New Year!
With 50 years experience, it's rather hard to see what type of shaft apparatus you're using. A good rule of thumb though is that your shaft should drip through your stuffing box at least 5 drips per 10 to 15 seconds.
This allows you to relax knowing your shaft is not heating up and no significant water is entering your vessel.
Your hard work shows and I for one appreciate it.
Fair Winds,Mark
@@markthomas7442 Happy New Year. When did you do this? I'm about to make the same passage this next year.
Man, I have absolutely zero interest in sailing in the arctic myself but I've loved watching this channel since the first time I saw this dude solo sailing and skiing with beautiful footage of frozen anchorages.
Same here, i'm in Australia and arctic sailing holds no appeal.
Yes, worked in the Arctic, when I was in my 30's, no wish to go back, at least for the winter.
Best wishes from Northern Canada.
same here bro! I fully echo at 200% ur statement!
@@wyattfamily8997 I found in Alaska that I can't handle the cold physically, but I learned that the Arctic is as exotic and beautiful as warm tropics, so I greatly enjoy following Juho and Sohvi on their adventures wherever they take us---vicariously.
I love the arctic winter sailing vids. This is content that’s rare unlike the tropics. Looking forward to the passage.
Yes, they are brave and frosty!
Not everything will go to plan.
The real sailors always venture to cooler climates for some stiff air. ✌️
I’m just the opposite. I endure the refit vids so I can see arctic sailing. You are next level in your drone footage. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
Me too!!! Bring on the sailing! And the skiing, and mountaineering, and the life you lead and are comfortable sharing! It’s the best!
Same here!
Well done…steady as she goes…be safe…
Here, hear!!!
There are lots of boat fixing channels but few Arctic sailing channels, especially with people like you who are so at home in this environment. Keep going
🤫 Distant Shores might here you. 😉
Thanks! I’m almost 80 years old but my husband nice to sale basically in the Windward Islands I love watching your travels and good luck
Amazing achievement turning a a ugly duckling into a beautiful swan. After following you for about two years it’s great to see your dreams realized. Looking forward to seeing your Arctic adventures. Congratulations.
17:25 "Yes, we are really excited... to see if we are going to die or not...". 🤣 I heard about typical Finnish humor. Is this an example? I like it.
What you achieved in just 4 months is nothing short of legendary. It took me 7 months just to restore a 20 foot trailer sailer! Thanks for the video. I understand why you didn’t film much during the refit as you needed to be very focused on the work. I’m here for the long haul and looking forward to watching the sailing adventures unfold.
Your adventures in places that almost nobody will every experience is extremely cool !
It will be interesting to hear what repairs were needed on the centerboard and seal. What happened? How long on land? What exact repairs were made? Until then, Happy New Year! (ps; I enjoy your channel whether repairing or sailing.)
When I was watching the part about the rubber strips not having worn, I was thinking
"How about 'compression set'? Maybe they've just squashed into a thinner, wider profile"
Sounds like they've hardened over time and shrunk down.
Happy new year.
Out of all the sailing channels this channel is so inspirational and so responsible, this group has their shit together and I love listening to their story.
Great camera work, editing and personalities.
Great scenery, food and equipment.
Just a joy to consume and experience ..
Thank you
You are the most humble youtuber ever keep up your good work. I never skip a single videos of you.
My favorite sailing channel exactly because of the uniqueness and broad range of technical topics. The more detail the better! Your boat looks phenomenally beautiful now!
How funny that more people tune in for the refit videos and then lose interest when it comes time for the boat to do what it was meant to do! I actually skipped the last parts of the repair videos so I could see you all getting to use it. Good luck.
The variety of information, experiences, and destinations you provide the youtubers is phenomenal. We're never likely to see Antarctica or the northern hemisphere, so keep on producing, and those of us who are hooked on your channel will wait patiently for you to complete your tales. Thankyou for sharing your life with us.
Beautiful, unhurried footage of the vastness of the sea. Thank you so much!
Glorious!!! Awesome maiden voyage. What a treat for New Years Eve. ( New video) Lumis sails are exquisite! She is so beautiful. I'm not a sailor, but if you say " it's time to go" then, I'd trust you, it's time to go. Been waiting what seems like an eternity for you to come back on line. We are in it for the long haul. Can't wait for more. Bring on 2023!
Absolutely. The yacht is now beautiful and like you I can't wait for more episodes.
Crossing the Golden Gate was amazing. The drone shots were spectacular!
Wow I had no idea that the boat started out as a ‘moss’ boat, what a great job you both did 👏
I love your video series with both the repairs and the sailing in places most people will never see. You and Sophie are venturing into one of the most remote and dangerous parts of the world. Seeing this up close will be a spectacular arm chair adventure. Please do not underestimate the challenge in front of you. Many more people have climbed Mt. Everest than have done the Northwest Passage. Unlike Northern Europe help is not readily available and you are truly on your own. Safe journey. Thanks for sharing.
You haven't appeared on my YT feed for so long! I am so happy to see you under sail again, and not on a power boat wanting to be a sail boat. Happy 2023 to you both.
Congratulations and happy New Year!
Great video! Glad your sailing again!!
You might consider replacing the rubber strips in the centreboard box will PTFE/ Teflon plates. They will not compress and have very low friction characteristics. They can also be machined to fit snuggly which should reduce the lateral movement. Good luck and good sailing.
PTFE / Teflon is not good for use close to or in the water because it takes up water an swells. In marine Applications you prefer to use POM as a low friction plastic. It takes up almost no water and has good low friction characteristics. It is used a lot for keel bearings or rudder bearings.

I've been waiting!! For SAILING - Nice uphill run, doing what ain't usual. Nicely edited.
Happy new year to you , congratulations on a lovely refit and a great sailing 2023 for you.
I love all your sailing adventures, thank you for a great video 😊
Enjoying your channel in all aspects. The skiing and snowboarding tied in with sail adventures are very unique. Happy new Year.
I’ve been enjoying your northern adventures for quite a while now and look forward to following your further expeditions in the high arctic in 2023. Happy New Year to you both.
Always good to see your vids! Happy new year to you guys too! Wishing you all the best!!!
Congratulations and all the best for the New Year!

It's great to see you back under sail again. Congratulations and happy New Year!
Congratulations on your first sailing journey in several months.
Happy New Year!
So happy to see you guys back in the water. I crave the arctic sailing videos and seeing you deal with the hardships involved in the extreme weather conditions. Keep up the good work and your boat looks beautiful after the refit.
We love the sailing videos, keep up the good work !
Congrats, good luck and happy new year
congratulations on the launch and in my opinion a successful first passage. Looks like a great boat, very cozy and protected cockpit. Can't wait to see more, your drone shots are amazing.
Happy new years to you both
Nice to see you back afloat. Happy New Year.
Greetings from Vancouver Canada . A fan of your channel. Love your great Finnish sense of humour. If nobody commented yet, those are seals near SF Bay with a humpback whale. Benny (I may support you in a different way). Cheers. Benny Lee
Nice!!! Great Job!!!
Happy new year and good luck on your northern voyage! :D
The sailing footage was spectacular. Great work with the drone footage and the wildlife capture.
Brave work going out 500 nm or so without a sea trial on a boat with history as yours is. All the best for your arctic crossing. Thanks for publishing. Love your videos - all of them!
It was well worth the wait... happy New Year!
Thanks for sharing another great episode! So happy to see you underway!!!
Can’t wait to watch the adventures north
Happy New Year !!!!
The boat looks great. I especially like your sail trim choices. I will definitely watch cold weather sailing over the med or tropical content.
I love the "Build" Channels, and I'm passionate about "Sailing" channels, so I guess I'm here for the long haul😀
Great to see you sailing again !
Iam watching both types of videos and have with that !
i wish you good look and a happy new year !!
Congratulations and a Happy New Year! Wonderful job on the refit. Looking forward to following you two in your sailing adventures.
I'm interested to see how well the boat sails as you get familiar with it. Excited to see future videos.
Being yourself is always the best option…. And I kinda love the way you both go about producing something real and very rare. Cheers 🙏🏽
Dude, luv all of your vids, refits and sailing! keep it going and I'll keep watching all of it!

@@AlluringArctic what kind of boat is that?
Happy New Year 🎆
Really enjoyed this one. All the best this coming year!
Well done brother. With this boat, you'll have more viewers. Always a pleasure to watch. Happy news year!
thanks :) Happy NY!
Congratulations 🎉 on getting sailing again
Best wishes for your travels and a happy new year. Your drone footage at the gate was amazing.
It’s great to see a new video! Thank you for sharing video of the passage. Hopefully you can ski from the boat pretty soon!
On your comments about Artic Sailing. We live in the North East Sailing waters and often are amazed at how so many southern boaters have no clue of the beauty of the Great Lakes and additionally the Maine coast and Canadian waters. In a selfish way I hope not too many find out!! Happy New Year to you and your crew!!☮️
Having your friends aboard I guess made the trip much more pleasant and easier...
Thank you so much for doing these videos...Happy New Year and an exciting 2023
So happy for you guys! Love the boat. Great video! Wish you the best of times. Looking forward too the next one!
How beautiful for you to be underway and coming to Canada. We live on the Fraser River where there are some famous marinas Steveston and Granville Island in the harbor of downtown Vancouver should have fireworks and skiing at grouse Mountain 15 minutes from downtown. There is night skiing which is amazing to see the city and ski at the same time. If you have to pull the boat out for any reason one of the best yards is Shelter Island marina in Richmond on the south arm of the Fraser River. Ok, happy new year and thank you for your videos and sharing your journey.
I'm so happy to see you guys smiling and in the water!!! I hope you are safe, the waters can be quite rough up arouns Washington. I'm sure you've made t past it all now i have not finished the video yet! Happy new year!!
Love the drone shots!
I’m here for the sailing! Happy new year 🎉
Congratulations Juho and Sofi on a really great job resurrecting your new boat. Lumi is looking really great. I am sure that you will run into one or two issues now that you are sailing again... hopefully none to serious. All the best to you both for the new year and as you continue your journey. I am really looking forward to watching your videos again this year (yeah, it's 2023 in our part of the world already). Have a great shakedown cruise to your next destination. 🎉👍🙂
You certainly have the right temperament for intelligently handling the serious problems that often plague adventurous sailors. I admire the calm demeanor you maintain when faced with added problems and expenses. I don’t know if it’s mostly cultural, learned or instinctive but it certainly is an explorers job requirement and a great asset. You are definitely a Captain! Happy, Safe, New Year!
Happy New Year. Watching as the new year rings in in 20 min. 🇨🇦
excited to see the arctic sailing and footage. Best of luck.
I am a Finnish born Canadian solo sailor (Valiant 37) and love your videos. I look forward to the Arctic sailing videos to come.
Well done folks. A major refit in such a short amount of time is no easy feat :)
Great video. You did a nice editing. Happy new year.
Thanks for sharing with us. The sail looked like a lot of fun. I can't wait for the further north trip.
Happy New Year. I have to say I was sceptical when I first saw this boat but now it's sailing, wow! What a lovely boat.
I'm definitely looking forward to watching you guys sailing arctic waters! There's lots of channels on YT about various people exploring the Caribbean sea, the gulf of Mexico, and the Mediterranean sea, so Arctic sailing is a bit of fresh air hehe
Happy new year!
really enjoy watching your channel! can't wait till the next videos
Happy new sail year ! Nice videos and people, sailing, refit, arctic or bahamas ; it’s all nice to see 👍💪
Congrats!! Amazing! The boat looks incredible!
Been with you from the very first sail and will be with you as long as I can.
Love your adventures and film making! Take care!
It's so nice to see you guys make it this far since I briefly met you guys in Sigló way back. Keep your spirits up, you have lots of people rooting for you! 😃
And I am one of those people rooting for them.

Wow.
Take a bow both of you, be very proud about what you have achieved. You are superstars!
I watch your channel specifically to see the high latitude sailing. Bring it on. I'm looking very forward to it.
Great job! Even with the issues, it’s great to see you back on the water!
Very nice Video. Cant wait to see the next one.
Must have felt like a Prison Break leaving and heading out to sea
yeah i felt like someone was gonna come after us and drag us back 😆
The sailing and wildlife footage in this video was lovely!
thank matt, trying my best... !
Happy New Year! Thanks for taking us on an interesting journey and we are looking forward to what you share in the coming year.
In for the long haul. Can’t wait to see ya skiing
I watch your channel becasue it's so unique and fascinating. I don't sail myself and I'm not even particularly interested in general, lol. It's the mix of nice people, great landscapes, adventure and great filming that makes me look forward to every episode.
