Wow I'm in disbelief at how many you found in this! 🤭 I spent my childhood on the Cumberland looking for arrowheads and we only found 3 all those years. I guess because many other people before me found them first. That's amazing though!

My mother lived in East TN. She was gardening and hit something that hit her glasses. Similar shaped but smaller. Took to TVA biologist and found by carbon dating that point was 20,000 yrs old.

Nice finds! Im in Southern Middle Tennessee and live on an 80 acre farm. Been finding several points lately randomly across the property due to recently having the farm logged and those logging roads being exposed. Im wanting to learn how to dig. How do you determine where to dig and what areas to look for? Also about how deep do you have to go?
Thanks for leaving a comment. If you can find a water source like a creek or spring that’s your best bet. Dig some test holes and look for small flakes. When you find flakes and breaks keep digging until until there seems to be no more. As far as depths go you need to go a few inches into the clay layer. For us that’s about 2.5 or 3 feet. This will get you started but also ask other people to get more opinions on the subject. I believe if we would dig deeper we would find more archaic points. Thanks for watching my friend!

I always tell rock hunters to look for a good water source to walk then when ur finding flakes and artifacts search above that waterway just out of the floodplain. Dig test holes and sift the dirt for chert flakes. Good luck out there!

It’s possible to find the other half and we are always trying to piece broken artifacts together. We found a couple of broke drills yesterday, but had no luck finding the other half. Some places hold more artifacts than others. Best thing to do is talk with some of your locals and walk some creeks. Start with the area you live in first. More time can be spent looking instead of traveling. Also see if there is any artifact shows near you. You will meet some nice people there that love talking about artifacts. Thanks and good luck!

Hey thanks for watching! Well if you can find a waterway that holds artifacts then it’s just a matter of digging test holes to find flakes and breaks. Dig test holes in a place that it doesn’t flood on a regular basis. Thanks for dropping a comment!
No it’s not in the state of Tennessee as long as you have permission from the land owner. There are several other states that it is illegal. Thanks for leaving a comment.
Thanks Zac for the comment! I like to start out walking creeks. That way you can find out where they have been. Look for flint flakes along the gravel bars close to bends in the creek. After finding some artifacts or flakes along a specific stretch or bend of the creek you can look for the nearest high ground just above the flood zone. Dig a good test hole at least a couple feet deep or down to the clay layer. Hopefully you will find flint/chert flakes. I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Hey Jeffrey great comment! Well one thing that you don’t see in the video is the amount of breaks that we find. Also the Middle Archaic period is around 2000 years long. 6000 -4000 B.P. Just imagine how many points and tools were made during that time span. By the amount of flakes we are finding I bet you could fill up the back of a pickup truck lol. I believe they would drop or misplace some but would also bury and hide as well. That’s a great comment and good observation! Thanks for watching!
