I don't know man, he picked up on core keeper pretty quickly so there could be hope. Then again, UI elements are wayyyyy more intuitive in core keeper than they are in terraria.
If I have to look things up to play the game it's not a good game at least here in core keeper everything you need to know is in the tooltips you just got to read the stuff in the game
@@Gidon147 Core Keeper is 10x better paced, designed, paced, and more intuitive than Terraria. Terraria has more variety and better boss fights but you really have to look things up and dig into it and work hard to get there. Its the same reason I wouldn't recommend Neccesse to Asmon despite it being similarly great.
I remember constantly endgaming as a person who played wayyyy when it first came out as a playable game. Back when the game only had like the first 3 bosses and nothing else and each update and growth the game had was so exciting. It's finally released. so amazing to see this.
It's really nice to see Asmon playing an indie game for once. Indie devs need the exposure big online influencers like Asmon can give much more than AAA studios.

To those calling for terreria.. i dont know if he'd like it. Its more grindy than CK and much harder imo. Like pre hardmode is honestly a bit boring, and idk if hed be able to hold out until wall of flesh
A few buddies and I progressed to tin before doing any bosses, then did the first 3 back to back after being so op then came to the big minotaur boss and struggled because we were so confident. This game is a 10/10
I would kill to have a game with this sort of depth in 3D and more modern graphics.... It blows my mind how hit or miss the survival crafting genre can be.
recently picked up this game, about 14 hours in. difficulty progression goes like level1>2>3>5>17>295>14>115>16>17 again>and then it starts growing exponentially as enemies outscale your gear as an uncomfortably fast pace.
Its because once you get to the outer biomes, you have access to the high level areas, and if you don't speak to the core you dont know where to go first
Terraria is great but it is something you need a wiki open for since even though the guide does show you all the ingredients you need for things that isn't really enough except to be a teaser. There is a lot of content, like minecraft, that was added over time and not really explained.
Played core keeper with gf for the last 4 days, having a blast. It's always nice to have some relaxing yet a bit challenging game to play after work. I'd say it's a perfect game for people who enjoyed playing Terraria and Stardue Valley. All players can do whatever they want: dig tunnels to get some resources, evaporate monsters, making a farm or breed cows while benefiting each other. I'd suggest to play it with friends because for solo gaming it's pretty huge
I've tried to get into both terraria and core keeper at this point, and from a new players perspective I can tell you that core keeper is much better. I'm sure Terraria is great once you can get into it, but I couldn't get passed trying to read tutorial windows taking up the screen explaining the games systems while simultaneously being attacked by slimes every 30 seconds. Core keeper just throws you in and you figure things out through intuitive and familiar UI
Yeah I agree, I like those types of games but never got into terraria, there’s few kinks that I have with CK but it’s fun and like you said, intuitive.
And that s fair. That s the same flaw a lot of people can give minecraft too. The fact you got to have thr wiki on the side to be confortable is inherently a flaw. Yet. Monster hunter fall in the same category. Well old ones
The last time I played Terraria it does that, throw you right in. The only "tutorial" I knew existed was an NPC I never talked to during my first playthrough. Things have changed. It makes sense though, one of the biggest point of critique against Terraria is, or was, that there was no tutorial, causing people to feel that they needed to use the Wiki to play the game.
You mentioned at the start that you are looking for a game to grind. FFXIV would love to have you back! You haven't gotten to see Shadowbringers or Endwalker which is a shame.
Gotta love Asmon getting into new games! (Especially when they're less complex so he can quickly grasp all the mechanics and really get into the meat of things.)
I actually think core keeper is easier to get into than terraria. I love terraria, but it isn't as easy to get into or figure out, especially with the 2d platformer style vs this being top down.
Indie games are such a vibe. The thought for systems and gameplay, care and passion put into them beats everything any AAA studio has brought out in a long time. After I finish Songs of Syx I'll definitely give this game a go!
Honestly, I feel like Terraria may be right up your alley. I would compare it less to something like Stardew or Minecraft, and compare it more to a 2D Monster Hunter. There's building elements in it, but it's really a game where you kill things to get gear, so you can kill a boss so you can get the gear to kill the next boss.
@@Odyssey636 Oh def he should start on classic with a softcore character. I can see him slamming his face against the desk trying to do hardcore master mode on the first try lol
4:34 this has to be one of the most annoying trends in gaming in the past 10 years. can these devs just go back to fucking call it "male" and "female" and group character assets back together under these categories? every time i want to make a new character in one of those games, i have to click myself through all of the options now and try to figure out what this "body type 1, body type 2" shit even means before i can make a choice. because a lot of the time its not even right away obvious what the male or female options are and you have to look like 2 or 3 times. its just user unfriendly interface design. you can still make it so that people can freely combine those assets for like the dozen people out of a million who actually want to make one of those weird cross dressing characters. just categorize them properly for everyone else so we dont have to fumble ourselves through this shit just to build a normal character, man.
you only need the higher level workbench you can remove your old one and put it in a chest and you can scroll up and down the workbench level on the higher one. Also all crafting stations can pull resources directly from chests within 1 tile away including diagonals.
I just bought this game the other day. First time on it and I was playing it co-op with 2 of my brothers. We blasted the game for 8 hours. My brother told me he was up for 36 hours. I said "Bro, go to sleep. I'll talk to you later." he hops off, and then I blast the game for an additional 7 hours. I don't really like games like this. I hate farming. But the style, the aesthetic, and the sense of discovery in exploration kept me entertained. I almost started the game up today, but I'm gonna check out Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2.

After beating Core Keeper on Hard last weekend with my wife and another friend... Don't do Hard. There's no real additional reward (just better rolls for loot on bosses that you can farm every 4~6mins anyway) and the experience is just constant 1-shots regardless of gear. We often play games on permadeath with the hardest difficulty, so we just pushed through, but it was NOT enjoyable.
I'm loving it on hard. I like the challenge. Been one shot plenty of times, but now not so much that I am better at fighting. Plus I only play melee so that makes it even harder. It's my jam.
i disagree entirely, not sure what gear or food buffs you were using but its you can take alot of hits when set up correctly, especially in multiplayer.
@@KingNiros @SlydragonX I also play melee and we spec'd out food/potion buffs and made a farm for the specific ones that would benefit each of our classes. Gear without Armor gets 1-shot (dodge-chance gear or gear without magic shield) and shield off-hands are 110% required for Parrys (pretty forgiving timing, too, but missing the parry sucks; I was able to tank as melee for most bosses). We didn't mind the challenge either--like I said, we're mostly permadeath/hard difficulty players, so dying isn't really something that discourages us. We play a lot of private league HC Path of Exile (over 13k hours myself). The annoying thing was when the game would spawn 3~5 monsters behind you, while you're minding in a straight passage. It was just instant death--even with all buffs up. Coming from someone who prefers permadeath, having a near guaranteed death like that is pretty stupid. Yes, I could avoid it by spending significantly more time to make sure I don't put myself in anything less than a 3x3 passage, but that's pretty ridiculous and we'd never be able to kill the 6 endgame bosses in a weekend with that kind of mentality. Having 2 off-hand slots would fix the above for me because you could counter them with a shield, while still having a feather or your DPS off-hand. On top of that, replanting the crops was really annoying and I wish they would just keep regrowing after harvesting. Finally, they really need to add proximity crafting to the rest of the benches (the improvement bench has it from the start, but everything else was tedious). I also think the core movement in the game is sub-par--with too much emphasis on cardinal direction/grid-based movement. You get used to it, but I wish I had more control. All that said, compare it to playing something like Hardcore Infernum Calamity on Terraria (or even vanilla hardcore) and it's not even close. Modded Terraria is far more difficult, but is entirely skill-based and this game, while not terrible, felt janky by comparison. All and all, I'd still play Core Keeper again (especially when modded expansions for it come out), but for now it was a solid 7/10 for me.
@@honordevs Ah, I'm a HCSF POE man myself. Over 13K for sure as well. Although my Steam doesn't show it because I was playing long before it came out on Steam, since closed beta. I've found that lots of torches help me see those guys coming when the game sends them after you when there should be no monsters at the time. That way myself and my pet can be prepared, but it takes a lot of movement speed to survive those particular fights. I'm always highest armor possible and as much movement speed as possible. Garden food buffs and armor pots. I prefer the axes because each hit is harder and I can hit multiple people. Stick and move approach. Shield is OP. Hardcore Terraria is much harder for sure, but this is still a great game. I actually thought the creators of Terraria made this when I heard the music, but they didn't. My biggest hope now is that since we have 2 companies now making these particular games, one of them will make a 3d version that blows Minecraft out of the water. I know it can be done because I can see it clearly in my mind. Think of a Mario 64 type view. Wish I had the capability to make one myself.
He should really try Terraria with McConnell (trio is cool aswell). Expert or Master Mode, when you die items drops on the floor (it can lead to some hair pulling situations). It could be such a funny content.
@@Palemis yeah that and I can just search up metas and stuff, if this game is good then people will still be playing for sure. Although since it's my first time I could be playing for months if it's addictive.
They have already discussed proximity crafting in the future. Currently, anything stashed diagonally within one space will be automatically pulled. Hope he puts out more videos.
I don’t even think this can really be compared to terraria they are so different just because it’s pixel art and has bosses does not make the games similar
it's not just that it has pixel art and has bosses. It has the same gameplay loop as terraria, similar design sensibilities through and through. It features farming, base decoration, terraforming and steadily customising your world as a means to an end of improving your gear and kit in order to take on progressively more challenging bosses.
If you want to get really picky, the game is more like starbound than terraria. But after playing core keeper, and terraria being one of my favorite games, they are both really similar in gameplay
I didnt even notice it but if it was in the beginning of the video then its done for monetization purposes. Videos cant contain any cursing within a certain time limit from the beginning of the video otherwise it will be demonetized.
I've played Terraria before and couldnt get into it because i just couldnt figure out what to do and how to do things, i also did not want to look in the internet to learn so i just gave up This week i tried Core Keeper and im already addicted to it because everything is so intuitive, you get wood, make crafting table, and there is only a few things you can craft, and after you craft it all you can upgrade the crafting table so the sensation of progression is great
@@Apathetic2624 I think in the past it used to be a bit more non-linear. A lot less information being provided and you generally had to either watch videos or follow the wiki. For example, you still need to check the wiki when you're trying to build combined items (to find out where to get the required pieces). Also you don't know where to progress and when (Should you go into the corruption/jungle in the early game? No you shouldn't, but the game doesn't tell you that). @@KoinzellGaming I played terraria since its launch, im fully aware of what it used to be like. collectively from Xbox and pc I have around 4000 hours. You could say the same thing about core keeper that youre applying to terraria. Should you go to the clay caverns or forgotten ruins right away? probably not, but you can and nothing is stopping you. You might notice your mining slower, but the same could be said for the corruption in terraria which you literally cant mine until you get a better pickaxe. Its a sandbox game what do you expect?

@@yksol8649 While I do agree that farming games do appeal to girls more, not every farming game IS 'girly'. The writing and the graphics (yes, those DO matter) play a part in deciding what is 'girly' and what is 'not'. Stardew Valley, storywise and in graphics (presentation) is not catering to either gender. Animal Crossing? Yes. Those cutesy, round graphics, chiby figures...that is a girly graphic style. I don't know the story, but I imagine it's full of 'unicorns and sunshine' as well, which is generally 'girly' theme. Core Keeper definitely changed Asmongold's life .
recently picked up this game, about 14 hours in. difficulty progression goes like level1>2>3>5>17>295>14>115>16>17 again>and then it starts growing exponentially as enemies outscale your gear as an uncomfortably fast pace.
thats why you have food , potions, gearing up, but yeah its no lineal, you can go to the final zone like early on
Its because once you get to the outer biomes, you have access to the high level areas, and if you don't speak to the core you dont know where to go first
Super excited for the playthrough even though we have to sit through some silly shit like pretending to not know how to put down torches for 5 minutes
Terraria is great but it is something you need a wiki open for since even though the guide does show you all the ingredients you need for things that isn't really enough except to be a teaser. There is a lot of content, like minecraft, that was added over time and not really explained.
That's bad design and not fun to watch
Only core keeper lair with custom half-empty soda cups and a window you can throw unwanted items out of
Played core keeper with gf for the last 4 days, having a blast.
Yeah I'd say the same, especially of your on console imo
The last time I played Terraria it does that, throw you right in. The only "tutorial" I knew existed was an NPC I never talked to during my first playthrough. Things have changed. It makes sense though, one of the biggest point of critique against Terraria is, or was, that there was no tutorial, causing people to feel that they needed to use the Wiki to play the game.
I agree. Once I figured Terriara out, I loved it but it's not intuitive

I actually think core keeper is easier to get into than terraria. I love terraria, but it isn't as easy to get into or figure out, especially with the 2d platformer style vs this being top down.
He said that he doesn't like terraria because it's like 2d Minecraft.

The troons live rent free in game developers heads.
you only need the higher level workbench you can remove your old one and put it in a chest and you can scroll up and down the workbench level on the higher one. Also all crafting stations can pull resources directly from chests within 1 tile away including diagonals.

It's my jam.
i disagree entirely, not sure what gear or food buffs you were using but its you can take alot of hits when set up correctly, especially in multiplayer.
unlike terraria

@@Apathetic2624 I think in the past it used to be a bit more non-linear. A lot less information being provided and you generally had to either watch videos or follow the wiki. Also you don't know where to progress and when (Should you go into the corruption/jungle in the early game? No you shouldn't, but the game doesn't tell you that). @@yksol8649 While I do agree that farming games do appeal to girls more, not every farming game IS 'girly'.
The writing and the graphics (yes, those DO matter) play a part in deciding what is 'girly' and what is 'not'.
