I get a impression that the ISO ranging is because of the low light mode they have made more "advance" Nice to hear your points on switching, we can all agree it is lightyears ahead when it comes to sound. Damn that is insane 😂🙌🏻 Almost too good now. Even if I'm not completely agreeing on some of your points here, it is always nice to hear your solid take on why. There is one thing I wish DJI actually did learn from gopro. That is the foldable feet. You always have it with you. I can't begin do describe how frustrating it was to forget the magnetic mount at home, and can't use it with other gear because there was no feet. This is actually a strong point in my opinion. I have not seen the Magnetic mount on the Osmo Action 5, but on the OA3 there was some minor freeplay between the connection and made the vibration to the camera even worse sometimes. Good run trough mate. Appreciate your take on this 🎥🙌🏻 And it has to be said, the micro jitters on the Osmo Action 5 is still there and it is not good.

Can you take a second to explain "micro Jitters: thanks

    • @tshansen
      @tshansen День тому +2

@@PSBEadventures micro jitters is the problem that occurs when you shutter speed is to low or the iso is to high (noise in the image) and the electronic stability in the camera makes the footage worse than it would without stabilization. This can ruin a lot of shots in low light or not ideal conditions which we often find ourselves with action cameras. I have a shorts video on my channel that shows how bad it can be with the Osmo Action cameras. The reason why I went back to gopro again.

Great video Brent. re: microphone positioning (Im no sound tech so terminology won't be accurate here) - if you place the microphone just after the exhaust and in approx firing line of the gases even with the deadcat, you end up getting a lot of that distortion in sound bcos of the puffs of air/gases as they exit the exhaust tip. You can kind if hear it at 3:45 and 3:55. From experience, I think if you placed the mic, say, just in front of the exhaust tip (say, at the front of your rear rack), you'd get the exhaust sound youre after but without the distorted puffing sound. Although you may have already experimented with this position...

i'm thinking of switching as well, but based on my research a couple of thing. you can play with the settings of GOPRO by pressing on the bottom video mode and press edit on the right, then you can play with ISO, Shutter speed... 2nd thing is that the new GOPRO has a quick release mechanism. I have the Gopro 10, hadn't had any issues, but it sucks at low light!

Also a long press on the preset button (on the touchscreen) gets you directly to editing the current preset. On the 13, you can hold the power button and press the shutter button to cycle between the presets without using the touchscreen (with gloves on or in a waterproof cage), which only kinda worked on the 10 (only with front screen on). I haven't tried the 11 or the 12, don't know which version has fixed this behavior. It would be nicer if these things were better documented - I only found out about them from reviews.

There are third party ND filters that screw on the OA5Pro. I have the Neewer ND+CPL filters, they're listed compatible with OA4 but they fit the OA5Pro as well. Plus they have integrated CPL(you can get them without it as well).

What I found after switch over are :
    1. 2 hours+ video shooting time in 4K
    2. never got hang issue
    3. very good FOV ( no fisheye effect in ultraview , GoPro hyperview is horrible )

Brent, couple things: Would you mind listing a link or exactly what wireless mics you use. I have done basically all my footage on a Hero 9, and it's lost so much good footage, I want to sling it down through the woods. Always glitches at the exact moment I really need it. Anyways, I have a rig to where my voice, and my riding buddy's voice tee into one 3.5 mic jack into the media mod and that's worked fantastic. One by my mouth and one by one of the helmet speakers. So last year I got the Osmo action 4 and I just have been completely unable to get the audio right. I've tried just about every wired usb mic they make and they are okay but you can't split them really without converting them to TRS etc. I've tried every single gain setting that there is and there has just been no way I can find to make it work for me. I absolutely love everything else about the action 4. Instant on, battery life, the quick release, the quality, Image stabilization, all that. Was thinking about getting the hero 13 but seeing this has me thinking the action 5.
On the internal combustion stuff. I rode the baddest Zero bike you can buy. Some of the most amazing acceleration I've ever felt, and I've driven 1000+ hp mustangs. After about an hour, I realized I hated it and it was just missing something. I was a soul. No exhaust, no gears, no clutch. Nothing but throttle and break. Although I loved the acceleration, that alone didn't come close to making up for the sound.

I have also moved from GoPro to DJI and loving the new Action 5 Pro.
You first mentioned that you didn't move the ecosystem because of the quality but that kind of contradicts you point #06 Low Light Video. Bigger sensor = better quality in low light situations.
Also, GoPro does have magnetic mount capability in the latest version (Hero 13), but of course you need to buy it as a separate accessory (Magnetic Latch Mount)

  • @kaltask1
    @kaltask1 День тому

The new gopro has the quick mount, though you have to buy it seperate. It's quite expensive on all DJI, Gopro and Insta360 to buy multiple ones. Also since gopro 10 if you update firmware from SD card only, I have had not freeze issues since. Gopro also claims that the H13 code base is redone from scratch and that they have eliminated the freeze/lost footage issues.

    1. Audio is such a big part of the video experience. I've run rear audio a lot in the past, which, if you can get it out of the wind, works really well. This will work for you because you don't capture voice while riding. Doing it without a timecode to sync is a pain, and it sounds like DJI has a good solution for it.

    • @TRAVERSE_ADV
      @TRAVERSE_ADV 4 дні тому +1

😂 yes not only lack of timecode, but even with timecode, each devices RTC is slightly out over long clips.
The beginning syncs, and by the end of say a 40 minute clip, there is a delay between audio files, even a hundredthof a second, is noticeable.
Just spent 3 weeks individually syncing each clip on a 1h20m video 😅.
The other great hurdle is the distance between the audio capture locations causing a delay.

@@in2ADV so do the last few gopros, problem is, you need to QR code them all onto a network each time you power cycle them.
I dont find it really makes much difference for anything but short clips.
I leave mine running for sometimes a few hours at a time. RTCs in each device has inconsistencies that still create syncing issues.
If you just use short bursts of filming it works fine.

So then when I hit the record button on the remote, I have 1 video with 2 external audio tracks from mics and another video file from the helmet cam with lav mic in helmet.
I run my 12 from a powrr bank m using PD port also running a battery inside the gopro.
It will shoot for 12 hours straight on a 2TB sd card in hot or cold weather no issues.
I don't get the gopro lockup issue. Ive used pov cams since gopro was a point and shoot wrist mounted camera.
Back then it was a modded oregon scientific 2k with a fisheye lens mounted to the end in a helmet.
Ive had gopro SD AAA battety powered, HD hero, hero 2, hero 3 hero 3+ 2 hero 4s, hero 5 hero 7 hero 9 and now 2 hero 12s. Never had many issues.
There are certain procedures not in the instructions that need to be used to ensire smooth operation, such as on quick record, the first record needs to be about a minute long so the OS can boot properly other wise it locks up if you shoot a short clip and needs the battery pulling.
Canbus in older cars is similar, always wait for fuel tank level to register on acc before cranking the starter, the voltage drop of a cold start can make the ECU and associated ICs that handshake on start up wig out halfway through booting up.

Hey mate. I went with the GoPro hero 13 and simply bought the dji mic 2 kit. It syncs much better with the 13 than with the 12. I have one connected to the rear of the bike, (similar to you) and the other is spare for voice or nature b-roll etc. Re: video, the 13 now has the HLG HDR which is so good to work with post prod, much improved on the 12, and it matches with the HLG iPhone footage finally.. totally agree with exposure controls that are non existent in the GoPro.. they’re the only way I shoot in manual on my mirrorless canon, I take this for granted when shooting photos and video.. so frustrating! As for mounts, the new quick release for GoPro is best in market.. can work in reverse and is more solid. Tested these when I considered swapping to dji recently also. I agree with low light, Dji smashing it out of the park here. GoPro is indeed in need of a new sensor! The new ND system is great though! I don’t mind unscrewing. GoPro certainly designed its product for an entry-level audience. The settings you and I want confuse those people, then they have issues resulting in more calls to their support centre. However, they have simplified their product even further recently.
Using the same colour profile makes a lot of sense. Does the DJI have a D-Log? I found the Log mode in the Hero12 excellent and what's kept in the GoPro ecosystem for now.
Curious to see your long-term experience before I consider switching, but everything you said makes a lot of sense. It's great that people now have good choices in the market.

G’day Brent. I really like the DJI Action4 but find the FOV, even with cropped Horizon Balance setting to be too wide. Subjects such as other riders appear much further away from you than they really were. Scenery shots are flattened and detail lost, again too wide a view and not how your eyes perceived it during the ride. Do you find the Action 5 gives you a more realistic FOV over the Action 4 ?

I haven't compared the field of view, but I'm editing my adventure ride from last weekend and I'm pretty happy with the footage... In fact my buddy HD was riding with a GoPro, and as I'm bringing in the footage, the DJI footage just seems "cleaner" for some reason. I think we set all the settings to be as closed to identical as we could (flat color profile etc.).

No offence but this sounds like an ad even though you said it isn’t. Especially when if you watched the hero 13 release video it solves some of these issues.
    1. But instead of engine you are just getting exhaust. I don’t think it’s better at all tbh. With a windsock I get a great motor sound on my GoPro chin mount.
    2. Hero 13 natively handles the ND filters now automatically when put on to handle exposure etc. Yea GoPro labs is required as a pro because consumers will mess with advanced then complain to GoPro support and everyone else when their video comes out bad. Just look at the GoPro sub reddit for the lack of understanding of videography.
    3. You do a lot manually when the GoPro automatic settings are amazing.
    4. Hero13 has the magnetic clip now and the clip is backwards compatible apparently. Media mod is fair though.
    5. Reliability agree it’s an issue. Apparently they’ve done a full rewrite of firmware so hopefully will get better.
    6. Yeah low light sucks on GoPro.
    7. Using GoPro labs you can use QR codes to switch modes and can’t you change this on mobile app? Agree should be more custom toggle options though. I thought you might have stuck some to your tank to scan and change very specific settings.
Also surprised the anamorphic lens on hero 13 didn’t excite you. Guess it’s too late now to watch the hero 13 launch video.
Anyway love your videos thanks for the review.

Yes, I also used the Gopro media mod with the windsock, and my sound was "ok" (it did cut out a lot of the wind noise), but I much prefer really hearing the exhaust etc. I think i'll still play around with mounting positions.
On the exposure info point, I don't know why they couldn't just hide that behind an "advanced" setting in the menus, leave it off by default, but make it available. Having to install hacks is just a terrible option.
On point 7, I tried the QR codes... I actually printed them and laminated them and put them on each sleeve, so I could just hold a wrist up in front of the camera to switch modes, but they ended up getting trashed (or I forgot them). I didn't want to stick QR codes all over my dash/windscreen.

Only suggestion I would make is that I watch motorcycle vids for motorcycles and not music video. I don't enjoy the music at all.

GoPro has been a disappointment since the release of the Hero 8, I'm slowly moving away to Insta products as I replace gear, no more GoPro for me either.

If I ever want to be angry, I just go and try to pair my GoPro Hero 12 Black to my phone. Guaranteed failure and subsequent rage. It's unbelievable how bad their syncing and setup still is after all these years
