As a recovering pick me girl, I’ve realized there is a difference in simply liking things that traditionally the opposite gender would like compared to using those interests purely to attract said gender and putting others down in the process. Yeah….like Pearly Things is a prime example of appealing to men through only bashing women more or less. I hate that the phrase is ruined now because “I’m not like other girls” is a sentiment I’ve had for a good portion of my life-but not in a quirky, fun way…in a sort of autistic, I miss out on social girl cues sometimes and don’t always click with them. lol but I guess over time I’ve realized I don’t click that well with people in general XD Still, I feel like anything that even sounds remotely like the phrase makes people go into “oh she’s just a pick-me” mode

Using the term "sapphic" is not pick me. It is a more vague term that can apply to more people than just lesbians. Queer women, ace women, non-binary people, etc. can all fit under the sapphic umbrella. That is why many people like to use the term sapphic because lesbians are not the only people who have a focus on being with or dating women. Also, aro/ace people are 50/50 on giving great or horrible relationship advice because on one hand, many of us don't have experience with romantic relationships and don't know how to handle those situations while on the other hand, we understand relationships on such a fundamental level and we value connection offered by friendship and truly knowing a person and their personalities without any kissing or butterflies getting in the way of our metaphorical vision. My friends all think I'm insane because I don't use and Internet or apps to date. If I see somebody in person that I'm thinking looks good, and preferably have talked with them a bit, I'll give them my number. They can call, or not, and I'll just treat them the same if I see them again after. Sometimes they call, sometimes they don't, but I'll never have to show up to a date with a photo that's ten years old and a crazy that I immediately want to leave.
My friends legitimately asked me what if the girl I ask out has a boyfriend? Or is married and not wearing a ring?
That I had to just go "... well, she'll say no or not call it's just no big deal?" and explain that it's really not that awkward to see a person you asked out.
The amount of confrontation avoidance in modern society is starting to really be a problem. Tinder sounds so insane to me.

I’m SO happy he pointed out the whole match thing…. If anything you could make the argument that women have it HARDER on apps like Tinder BECAUSE of how guys swipe right almost 100% of the time…it’s more time-consuming to have to weed through a hundred or so matches to find out which guys are actually even interested in *you*. And it’s why they typically don’t initiate conversations and pick based on more shallow reasons… if you need to narrow the choices down to something manageable those are easy places to start.

      @audreyxatomic Рік тому

@@stephaniesimmons6113 This comment is irrelevant to my point though. The percentage of matches, which is clearly displayed doesn’t need the amount of time on Tinder to be equal-and I would say she did enough swiping to give a comparable sample size.
I know anecdotes aren’t everything but, I’ve heard tons of men (online and ones I know irl) admit that they kind of just swipe right on almost every girl and her data and his data combined absolutely back that theory up… She HAS to use more discretion because most men are like him and swiping right on about 90% of women….when I used tinder, my male friends all had maybe 13-25 matches and maybe 5 conversations…and my number was far above 100 matches and maybe 10-20 conversations and the guys admitted they mostly just swiped right on most girls (to increase their chances-which ends up kind of backfiring).
So, idk if you misunderstood my point but I’m saying this data backs up the reality that girls have to swipe left more often because it quickly becomes overwhelming when you have 30 people trying to get to know you and make date plans….so it quickly has to become kind of shallow… unless something in 150 characters really strikes you (ya know the bios that mostly all say the same generic things), then logically you’re probably gonna start nitpicking physical or financial things because…well I’ve already said-you have to have some process to narrow that down or you’ll still have no luck but because who has the energy to talk to 100 different potential relationships at once?

I don't like online dating... especially because I'm a romantic who likes the idea of meeting someone in real person, building that connection in person... it annoys me that I feel like online dating may be the only realistic option for me. I feel like a lot of people aren't as open to talking to strangers, like they have less social skills now because they are used to social media and it can make a person feel more insecure and wonder are they gonna look at me like I'm an idiot for trying to have a conversation with them? Dating is hard in general, as a lesbian its 50 times harder because the dating pool gets a lot smaller. Just thinking about the odds depresses me sometimes but I hope to meet the right girl someday, hopefully somewhere like a bar and not on Tindr but I am tempted to try it again soon.

Those insights make sense when you consinder that men outnumber women on Tinder 9:1. If you're a guy and you want to meet anyone at all you basically have to jettison any notion of "standards," swipe right on everybody and work out whether or not you're attracted to them later. I tried it for a couple weeks, as someone who had never dated anyone I hadn't met in real life, and the whole process was dystopian and surreal. At the end of the day only a small fraction of the people I matched with even responded to me, and the ones who did were throwing red flags from the rip. Anyways, I learned pretty quickly to just keep putting myself out there irl until I clicked with someone rather than to wade any deeper into that meatgrinder.

What kind of makes me really sad about incel culture is that like low-key it does make me legitimately scared to come out as asexual. Because I just, as someone who doesn't really care much for sex, am scared of getting lumped in with actually brain dead men who claim to be "above sex" the second they get rejected by their crush after being really creepy and gross. Like I swear I don't hate women, I just don't really experience sexual attraction. I don't know though, like I get that there is a legitimate reason to be cautious about this stuff, and seeing how people just refer to me as a twink, I probably don't give those vibes anyways, but I don't know it just stresses me out.

    • @lolababs206

Understandable fear, especially in the past. But now most incel men barely even put up those pretenses anymore now that society has done a hard shift backwards within the past 6 years. They're going full ooga booga mode in public and are barely even pretending to be disinterested in sex. The tiny tiny Tate boys have done an even worse number on men so if you're able to walk upright and successfully speak, women won't usually even be assuming too much about you because the bar is just that low. This is obviously a bad thing.

Hello! I'd like to say that there is a veeery big difference between what incels are and act like e.g the stuff they say completely out of pocket, and a regular person who's just ace! And anyone worth talking to will be willing to listen and easily see that it's not the same at all. Honestly I think some women, especially a fellow ace lady would be extremely relieved to hear that you're not talking to them just to get in their pants but because you are genuinely interested and want to have a meaningful connection. So saying, "by the way, I'm asexual! If you're not sure what that is, it basically means I don't experience sexual attraction. I wanted to put that out there now so that I'm not accidentally leading anyone on." kind of thing, totally understandable and respectable. Versus some incel being all "umm actually I'm totally above sex because women are inferior to me and I'm not a wh0re like them 🤓☝️" or something then obviously thats an extremely gross vibe that indeed no woman should want to interact with. TLDR my point is I think more people will be accepting than you might think! Even if they say "thats cool, but I'm looking for something different" or say nothing and move along, thats fine - at least you know they weren't the person for you if you want a genuine relationship
Anyway sorry for the ramble lol. I wish you much luck! I understand the struggle, as an aroace person myself, but you got this man 🙏

Cooper being so wholesome that he just legit does not fathom the appeal of "Hey, I'm super mentally ill, and you are too. Wanna go have blurry sex in semi-public? No, I don't need your name." is so funny to me.

Part of the reason the guy and girl analytics were so different was because the girl was in it for under 3 months while the guy had been in it for over 2 years

Coop!!! I've missed you. Dating has never been fun to my neurodivergent brain. I only used Tinder once, for it's intended purpose, and it was just as bad as my other encounters with men. It's me, I'm awkward. ❤

I tried tinder a couple years ago, and I thought that every single guy I matched and exchanged numbers with was weird. But then last week I was looking through old messages and found chats with the tinder guys.. aaand realised that it was me. I was the weird one. I’m not sure I’m gonna learn something from this though.

@@FS-qk5uq In my head I was funny, witty and direct. It hurts to admit, but in reality I gave off a vibe of “I’ve never seen a living person in my life, and have no idea how to keep a conversation going in a non-desperate way”. I made way too many (not at all funny) jokes, out of place comments, and was kinda pushy. Going back to those messages gave me a new perspective on myself.

I actually did the math for 15:19 since she only had 75 days and he had 2+ years. She swipes on about 25 people a day, he swipes about 32. Not too much of a difference HOWEVER- he swipes right on 96% of his people (about 30/32 right swipes), she swipes right on 18% of her people (4/25 right swipes) 😭😭😭 additionally about 59% of her right swipes match (and another additional 59% of those matches actually talk)…. ONLY 1% OF HIS RIGHT SWIPES ARE MATCHES- and then he only talks to 31% of them 😭😭😭😭 bruh

Its crazy man. I was on tinder in 2017/2018 and my account was popping off like crazy, like 20 matches in a day. 5 years later after I got my own place, got fit, developed skills, got a job, now i might get 20 matches in a month and the only ones that want to talk insist on the one and done. Not sure how it all went downhill so fast.
