My experience of dyscalculia affected my whole life. Nobody seemed to know what dyscalculia was! Dyslexia yes. Dyscalculia no. The closest any teacher got to diagnosing me was saying I had a “math block”. Everything else I was treated as if crazy, or stupid. Screwing up telling time, counting consecutive numbers. Directions and the concept of a map was just absolutely devastating. I had to write it in words to make it stick. Thank god gps came out! If I keep watching these videos maybe the rest of my life be less chaotic.
Thank you for your comment, Amy! I really appreciate it! Totally hear you on the nobody seemed to know what Dyscalculia was, growing up I also had that too! That 100% resonates with me. 😊 The maths block, stupid, telling time resonates with me as well! The stuff I share is stuff I wish someone had told me when I was growing up, so hopefully it will be helpful in the future. 😊
@@embraceneurodiversities tying shoelaces and left vs right were great struggles for me too. I still get the hour wrong when telling time with an analogue clock - the one with the hands.
Thank you for your comment, Josie Lyn! I really appreciate it! 😊 Thank you for sharing your story too! It's such a relief to know I am not the only one that struggled with those too! That's super interesting as well with the analogue clock. I loved reading your comment/story. 😊
@@embraceneurodiversities thank you, I have just been reading your responses to messages. It was so frustrating for teachers, and for me, to have these challenges, because very little was known about Dyscalculia when I was going to school. It's a relief for me, as well, to find other people here who struggle too. Thinking of you all, because I still freeze sometimes with confusion
Omg Josie, Your comments are honestly making my day!! 😊 Omg same, that's the same as me, as well!! I wish I had, had these types of videos growing up, it would have made such a difference, felt less alone. 😊
My brain is wired for words and not numbers. In eighth grade, here in the U S, they said I read at freshman college level. However, I simply could not learn even grade school math beyond the simplest stuff. It helped to ruin my self image. No confidence in my abilitities. It affects my whole life, too.
I believe I have this, although I'm not yet diagnosed. Maths, science, and other school themes have me great difficulty. I think it also affects coordination. Hoping to get a diagnosis soon
Thank you for your comment, Josie! I really appreciate it! Thank you for also sharing your story. 😊 I wish you all the best for your diagnosis and good luck. 😊
Thank you, Jo, for your comment, I really appreciate it. To answer your brilliant question, not that I know of personally, however there may well be specialist Dyscalculia tutors in larger cities or overseas. In New Zealand, I don't think Dyscalculia is well known enough. Some dyslexia or learning support teachers or tutors might do it alongside dyslexia or learning disability tutoring. Also, maybe maths tutoring businesses out there might do it, but not sure. Hope this helps. 😊

I need her as my math teacher.
