  • For today's Tech Thursday we run down how a Freecoaster hub works, how to adjust the slack, and the difference between certain freecoasters.
    The freecoasters in this tutorial were:
    Colony Freecoaster wheel
    Shadow Conspiracy Raptor Hub
    and Merritt Finaldrive Freecoaster

    This was a good one. I'm an old school BMX'er from the late 80s/early 90s and just getting back into it and I understand what a freecoaster is but didn't really have any idea how they worked technically so this was awesome for me. I really like that you know all about stuff you personally don't use as well, really shows your depth of knowledge. Cheers.

    Really influenced me to get a freecoaster. I've been on the edge because it's a big expense to me as a high school student but I think imma go with the Primo Freemix. go big or go home

    This video helped me fix the promo freemix hub I got from a buddy for cheap so happy I have a coaster with consistent slack now before it would take like half a crank or 3 whole rotations to engage now it engages Everytime with a half crank luh u Alf 💞💞💞

    I have a WTP on my Kink and I hate it. It’s got about 2/3-3/4 of a full rotation of slack that you have to push through before you’re applying power again. Unless I’m doing a trick where I’m really moving, I end up having to put a foot down before it reengages again half the time. My buddies bike I learned to freecoaster on was only maybe 1/5 of a rotation. I’m going to be adding a few washers/spacers to mine to fix it this week

    Hey great video, one side note. You need to put grease on the clutch or it can cease to the hump, and without it the clutch wears faster as well.

    Reminder. When rolling backwards when using a coaster. YOU DO NOT USE PEDAL PRESSURE TO RIDE OUT OF A FAKIE. HALF CAB OR SLIDE OUT. When the hub is rolling backwards and you put pedal pressure. That clutch is getting the splines on it worn down. Eventually the clutch won't engage and give you pedal pressure. It'll feel like it not catching, and at that point, your clutch is trashed.

    I just bought a Cinema ZX Freecoaster and I have been told if i dont remove the lockring and washer behind the driver that my driver side bearing will blow out quickly. Should I be concerned? Not sure if i should leave it or remove it, because now im afraid im riding on a time bomb.
    Any advice?

  • @codywilliam8979

    Can you replace just the springs that hold the clutch centered? One of the little balls popped out of the bolt that holds it in and I just removed the bolt and put it back in and put the clutch over and it has been working fine. Will I need to replace my hub or can I still ride on it?

    I have the annoying clutch bite sound will a grease job get rid of the annoying clank when I stop peddling?

  • @sampring1587
    @sampring1587 7 років тому

    So say you've got a free coaster and you disengage it then quarter turn to engage it but you stop pedalling at the bottom of a pedal stroke then do to pedal again and sometimes there not much slack but other times it doesn't engage for a few pedal strokes that have a little pressure and tries to engage

    • @Peculiarsafe83
      @Peculiarsafe83 7 років тому

      Sam Pring I've seen this happen before, I'm not sure what causes it, but it might have to do with how many slack rings you have in the hub, I'm pretty sure if there's no slack rings in there with full slack, when you pedal backwards it feels like it does what you're describing but I'm not exactly sure.

  • @derekandre9302
    @derekandre9302 6 років тому

    So to get this clear when you go backwards the clutch disengages and threads way until it stops at the end of the threads. Then when you go there pedal for ward the clutch threads back up to the driver and depending on how much distance is between the driver and clutch depends on the slack?

    Hey Alfredo Mancuso, I know you are very busy but I hope I´ll help me out with my Primo Freecoaster Problems. I watched the Video multiple times but some Problems still exist. Problem 1: When I removed the conut and the Driver I wasn´t able to remove the axle with mens power -> question: can I use a hammer for or will it destroy the coaster? Problem 2: When I reinstall the Driver and the conut, there is space between the Driver and the conut... I can´t tighten it and If I reinstall the whole wheal it woombles around even if I tighten the nuts af. I hope you can help me out bro b,ecause you are the best teacher in the world ;) Sorry for my bad english, I hope it´s ok to read.
