    Thank you for your sharing of your phenomenal talents and I truly enjoyed watching this morning and waking up with my two little fuzzball girls (2 adopted me dogs) Chica and Pauqie. Coffee and quiet wake up time on our Winter morning. I am a beginner and I am so excited about applying the new information and education that I have been able to acquire today. Absolutely loved the end results of each ring...

    I love the real time videos. Don't edit or cut anything out. I also like to put your videos on while I myself am crafting, because I think you have a very soothing voice, and the real-life things like your cat playing with toy mice are fun too, haha. Your videos are great for "follow along" type instances, and also just to have on to watch and listen to while I am doing other things. So, you do you, and we will all continue to enjoy what you put out there! :-)

    I keep imagining the cat and almost wish you had showed us him/her - but others may complain if you did that. I can hear it playing with one of those plastic balls with the bell inside. So cute. Love your videos. NOT crazy about the humming, but fortunately you don't do that very much. Your work is wonderful and your voice is easy to listen to.

    According to online sources, the maximum current density for "general" acid copper electroplating should be in the 40A/sf range. I'd be surprised if your rings have even a square inch of surface area, so any current above about 280 mA (.28A, 40/144) is probably too much. I'm guessing that's part of why you get that bubbly texture. So, while it's nice if you want it, if you want to get rid of it you should turn down the current. You should probably filter your plating solution, too; suspended particles can also contribute to surface roughness.
    On another note, if you want other things to experiment with, here's a thought: plate for a while, then paint a mask on the plated parts with craft acrylics or nail polish or whatever you have handy, then plate a while more. The result, once you remove the paint, should be a soft sort of "engraved" look.

    Epoxy sculpt is basically two part epoxy that has fine chalk mixed in. I have made some myself with syringes of two part epoxy, each side squeezed into a separate airtight container and mixed with some kind of powder ( chalk, cornstarch, flour). It is not non-toxic, it can cause eye and skin irritation, not safe to put in mouth. Epoxy Sculpt does have very low odor.

    You may want to look into using carbide or diamond bits to initially remove the material. Then use a 'flapper' (flap sanding) type of sanding bit. Those grinding stones are designed for super soft material like wood or plastic. You will eat through them like mad, and they will just spray sand everywhere. Lovely project otherwise. Thanks for the video.

    When your torch doesn’t want to turn off, it’s because the continuous switch is getting stuck, so as you would normally turn your torch off, press in the round button looking thing and hold it in, at the same time pull the continuous switch out, then release. If you really want to fix it for good, on the top of the torch where there is a decal, there is a screw. Take out all the screws, pull off the plastic housing and locate the continuous lever, loosten up the screw until it works like it should and assemble the torch back together.

I like making wire wrap jewellery and having people that want to buy them from me makes me feel beyond fantastic, my issue is cash flow. do I spend the money on real silver wire and authentic semi-precious stones or not...nto every one will purchase something wrapped in copper? Or have a fake stone.

    Fascinating seeing you using copper tape to make it conductive. I also make copper electroformed rings, pendants and electroplate organic things like feathers which i use for woven copper wire dreamcatchers. Exact same method except i paint where i want the electroplating to go with a graphite conductive paint i get from Riogrande.com Once things are finished i seal them with ProtectaClear to keep your fingers from turning green. I do work on a farm tho, and for me anyways, even that finish starts chipping off from turning window cranks and wrenches and turns my fingers green. I'm sure it would be just fine for everyday use if your not turning wrenches or cranks haha. The ProtectaClear will also seal in your patina. With no sealer on them they will eventually all look the same.. like an old penny. Just thought i'd mention that since i didn't see you put any type of sealer on your rings. First time seeing any of your videos actually so you already might and i just haven't seen it yet :)
    It is a ton of fun though. The possibilities of things you can electroplate are nearly endless.

    Hi Y'vonne, I so enjoy your videos...very inspiring. I have recently started electroforming crystals and some stones and purchased my solution from Rio Grande. I was rocking and rolling along fine for about a month and now all of the sudden the solution is eating away at my stones even tho I have put several coats of Modge Podge on them. Do you have any ideas why or what I could do to fix this? I am wondering if I need to add water and check the PH of the solution and go from there. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much! Tommye

    • @nicolettewilson5829
      @nicolettewilson5829 4 роки тому

      I'd definitely check the PH, and add distilled water to equal the original amount of your solution when you first started using it. I'd also try using liquid latex to protect your stones. Make sure to apply the protective coating with a thick layer and let it dry completely before electroforming! What stones are you using?

    Question. What you are doing with the epoxie sculpt, couldn't you do with precious metal clay? Instead of electro forming, couldn't you fire it with the torch?

    • @sarareynolds3555
      @sarareynolds3555 5 років тому +1

      only with silver clay, any copper or bronze clay can not be torch fired, and any jewelry created with metal clay you need to make sure you have fire safe stones which are only diamonds and sapphire and garnet, and the clay shrinks when it is fired so any stone that is being set will be difficult to work around the shrinkage aspects. Electroforming is very simple and fun

      yes you can electroform with silver and gold but there is not a way to do it with an acid based solution only cyanide. and cyanide is extremely dangerous and should not be done on a small scale only in a controlled environment.
