An interesting collection of vintage portraiture. Some are handsome, others are more like shots of arrested criminals. Much of this is because no one was expected to smile in photographs. Those that do smile, even slightly, catch my attention and I interpret them as warmer personalities and I rate them as more attractive.
Same. Given the long exposures on most early photos, it's rare to find a truly warm personality. So when they do pop up, they shine like the sun. Cheers, Ray!
Wow, 18:31, looks like Rufus Wainwright's grandfather (could have been. It takes some doing to see beyond the trends of the day. But beauty is beauty...
There are some fine looking men in this collection but 1:13, 5:42, 7:50, 8:06 are all stunners! Thank you, Clint and Happy New Year to you and every one of your subscribers. DA
Thanks, Donald. I love seeing who people favor...tastes are so personal and subjective. But I like the way you see. Cheers and Happy New Year's too you, dears!
What wonderful vintage photos of handsome men. I loved most of them, and the ones at 2:11, 2:18, and 7:04 really caught my eye. Most seem to be nineteenth century and European?
Thanks, RJ. Glad you found some candidates. As for the age and sources, I believe they range between 1880 and 1950. The ones that had markings--cabinet cards typically include a location if they're not cropped--were roughly equal European and American.
1890s- Ain't they beautiful? People are still the same, regardless of photography, clothes and hair. Tiny lapels, nice collars, various ties... Big lapels, into the thirties and forties. Luckily, men are still beautiful. 7:22 , the tiniest lapel I've ever seen. Who knows when? Photography itself is only Civil War-ish. 1860s.
@@pjesf Yes, and the barbers who had no modern tools with which to work. It was only the 20s or 30s when haircuts got really good because of the advent of electricity! All clothing was what we would today call couture. -Hand made.
If memory serves, photography was invented in the 1820s but didn't really take off until the 1840s and 1850s. This crop of photos seems to span 1880s to 1950s. I think. So hard to tell. Because like you said...people more or less haven't changed. Some of our fashions, styles, and tech have, but at the core, we're still us. Cheers!
Hey there G'morning from a mixed bag of 💩 weather 🇬🇧, what a start to 2025 and the same to you in 🇺🇸 I hope this isn't a foretaste of the new Presidential term of office. Now onto that montage, oh how I relate to the title plus Ivory Towers 😮 Some of those heads of hair and haircuts made me so jealous and all that without the billions of cash spent on grooming products of today 😎 Early days Tinder profiles pics 😁 and so smart in formal clothing and noticing so many had a jewelled tie stud positioned in the middle of the tie knot, very dapper. Enough of my ramblings, Cheers DougT 🇫🇴
Thanks for watching, Gene. Sadly, none of the photos had any names attached to them. Sometimes a photo studio or location, but nothing else. Le...sigh. Good eye though!

The music here has such a marvelous feeling of whimsy (a word that I happen to love) 🎶💙
Whimsy is a great work! Cheers and thanks for bopping to the music. Cheers!

Those clothes are wonderful! The word “haberdasher” comes to mind; it’s not often we get to use that word 😍

Sorry the weather is such shite, Doug. Thanks for making me laugh with the Tinder reference. I'd swipe on some of those dapper dudes. Cheers!
The photos were great and the styles of the times they represent and last the music and to the enjoyment of the photo video. Thank you.
Thank you kindly, Eugene. Appreciate your comment and time. Cheers!
This is a group of (mostly) handsome guys, some not so much - BUT who are the beautiful creatures at: 1:13, 2:42, 3:24, and 8:18?
