  • Just some similarities between Led Zeppelin's song "Whole Lotta Love", from their 1969 album "Led Zeppelin II" and Funkadelic's song "Mommy, What's A Funkadelic?" from their 1970 album "Funkadelic".
Note I: Much of "Whole Lotta Love" is based upon Muddy Waters' "You Need Love" and its 1966 cover, Small Faces' "You Need Loving", but not the riff, which seems to be Jimmy Page's original.
Note II: Most of Funkadelic's debut album had been performed during 1968 and 1969, prior to being published in 1970.
    All credits to them.

First of all, it doesn't matter because both riffs are written in the blues scale. And blues is a language. The older generations of bluesmen had different views on music originality than today's generation has.
Now, both songs are written in the same key and from what i hear Funkadelic's song uses the blue note.
At last, the riff for Whole Lotta Love is not a Jimmy Page original riff. In fact it was a lick Jimi Hendrix uses in one of his first hit songs "Hey Joe". And i'm sure Jimi Hendrix hears it from somebody else and probably that somebody heard it from somebody else who heard it from somebody else who heard it from somebody else..

Well said. I'm not hearing ny overt similarities. Certainly nothing that would be plagiarism.

The earliest I found of this riff is Muddy Waters “You Need Love” - and I’m sure he heard it somewhere and borrowed/lifted/interpreted etc…
