I love Metallica's instrumentals, and this is the only one they have made since 1988. It is already long at 9:57, but when I discovered som of it had fallen in the cutting room floor, I had to listen to it.
I understand they cut those parts because they arguably make the momentum and structure to the song to be somewhat lost, but they are great nevertheless. Also, the song is already long and with many changes, so a couple more will not do any harm.
So, taking as the basis a dynamic mix of the original album version, in which someone managed recover or reimagine the armonics chopped off in the album mix while retaining its the heavyness, which most other fan mixes of the album lack, including those based on the Guitar Hero demos.
Then, I added the beginning that has that vibrant bass with no fade in and the end which I think also resolves better without the fade out.
And most importantly, I put both solos in their entirety: James' solo is special, because he does not usually make them, and also is beautiful, so why cropping it. Kirk's solo is crazier, especially the part that is not in the album, which I think sounds kind of weird and off limits - the reason it makes me feel a lot more and what I seek in a metal record.
I equalized the added parts for them to be seamless.
I did it only for my own enjoyment, and now I share with other metal fans.
I feel this is the best way to enjoy the song, already great and only slightly improved. Hope you agree.
