Excellent video with lots of catching on the SPJ. I just recently purchased a Shimano 1501 HG Custom F reel and it looks like a fish catching machine. We have been bringing SPJ’ing to the Florida Keys for about 2 years now and have posted quite a few videos of SPJ’ing here in Florida on UA-cam. We look forward to trying SPJ on the west coast someday. Thanks for an informative video and greetings from Key Largo, Florida. - Captain Dan & Elizabeth
I find it funny how the mate said he doesn’t like the jigs he’s uncomfortable with them yet he sees you reeling in fish after fish after fish. You were really slaying them. I don’t care what I have to change. If I see somebody being successful I’ll try it.
Such a great video and so much to learn! You are many years ahead of most fishermen in america. This technique is nothing new in Asia but it’s unheard of by most fishermen in america…. I know in a few years, most people will be fishing slow pitch technique like the bucktail rigs.
Thanks for the video. for SPJ I brought the amethyst LEVIATHAN Palmarius 2 power 150- 400gr 7'2" and shimano Ocea Jigger F Custom 2001 NFG, attempting to come west coast to fish out of Redondo beach. Learned much esp jig gram to depth, if they want 80 gr drop down, despite the rating on the rod 100 -150gr is a good gauge to start in 150' water. Your technique doesn't look exhausting, or taxing
Great video! You mentioned, perhaps in a previous video how great tasting Chuckle heads are, and I totally agree. Boy you really wacked them. It was very generous to go for boat limits after you had caught your limit. But, aren't you tempted to which to bait and catch a limit of White fish?
good video. look like the rods is a bit heavy for the 80g. if you like a better result use 2 hook one on top and bottom and use teaser with it it works great. if you need hooks let me know i tie my own hook
GREAT VIDEO - I enjoyed it. What are your thoughts on he Ocea Jigger reel after almost a year of use? I am thinking of getting one for Rock Fishing in the Monterey bay. Many Thx
Would you recommend the M Game Slow J for 50-120' of water? Like the rod but think it may be too powerful for constantly using 80-120 gram jigs. Debating on this vs a temple reef setup
Question if their not biting the jig can I put on a dropper loop rig 4 oz weight use it like a regular rod? No casting just dropping it having weight on bottom for rock fish
Do you find the length of the Shimano Game Type Slow J rod good enough for party boat fishing here in SoCal? I know you have a Templereef Innovate 80, is the added length on that rod any better?
Those are pretty consistent. but overall the water condition changes so much here that you have to adapt to different depth/current/locations with different types of jigs.
@@JimFanFishing Thanks for the quick replies Jim, I’m experiencing the same as you…I have Temple Reef and I’m itching to try one of those Shimano Game Type rods. In your opinion after trying both what can you say about each, pros & cons and which one you like better or feel is best? Thanks
@@DownloaderVideo That's probably worth a video by itself :) :) Overall I think both are very capable rods, with game type slow J more user-friendly to beginners/intermediate jiggers. The length of innovate will probably help if I go out on a long-range trip, but not so critical for day-trips on rockfishing, so I actually prefer the length of game type slow J. Innovate has slower action, but will be overloaded beyond 250grams of jig using basic technique (rod butt between arm and body). I haven't tested the shimano on heavier jigs so far, but I'll let you know once I get to try it out.
Is this reel powerful in this size 1500? I feel my 4000 size shimano spinning reel has a hard time even just reeling up a 150g jig :/ Is it easy to use this size jigs with this reel? And can it use even bigger jigs? Thanks
I lost the accurate reel to the Ocean one time.. that's why I bought the ocea jigger. I think the ocea jigger is even smoother than the accurate. Both are great reels.

grappler type slow J is cheaper than game type slow J, but I heard it's still a very good rod, especially for beginners. Grappler has a faster action than game type
Do you have instagram? I try to get on the coral sea as often as possible. Would love to try to get on there at the same time to pick each other’s minds. Every trip I make im the only one slow pitch jigging.

Great job and excellent commentary.
Nice job! Non stop chucks!
It was nice meeting you on the boat that day , hope we can fish together one day

I felt very comfortable jigging 80-120 gram on the M game Slow J. I prefer it to temple reef.
nice video mate. where did you buy the green thing to support the rod in case of using the rail? what does it called. brand? thank you
Question if their not biting the jig can I put on a dropper loop rig 4 oz weight use it like a regular rod? No casting just dropping it having weight on bottom for rock fish
Hey. Ocea jigger 1500 vs accurate valiant300 . Which one do you like rather ?
For rockfish, I like Ocea jigger better. It's more smooth and ergonomic.
Do you find the length of the Shimano Game Type Slow J rod good enough for party boat fishing here in SoCal? I know you have a Templereef Innovate 80, is the added length on that rod any better?
I think the 6'6 length of game type slow J is sufficient for rockfishing in SoCal
What jig would you use for 300ft of water
What's the sea condition, high tide, low tide, slack tide, wind strength?
Hey man saw you using some of the ocean cat jigs in your other videos was wondering what u think of them?
Those are pretty consistent. but overall the water condition changes so much here that you have to adapt to different depth/current/locations with different types of jigs.
what gloves do you have? im getting a 1501HG f custom and game JB664 rod as well. thinking 30lb braid
The brand for my gloves in Ecooda. Where do you fish?

Hey buddy, whats the purpose used of that small stick attached to ur rod near ur reel?
Hi, that was just in case I needed to lay the rod on the rail (which I didn't for this rod).
What’s that green piece that you have attached to the rod? up after the reel. What line were you using?
Thanks
that green piece is in case I have to lay the rod on the rail. I was using 20lb braided line. Yozuri.
@@JimFanFishing Do you know how many yards of YoZuri 20 your reel took? Thinking about putting the same line on mine.
Thanks!

yes, I've used jigs up to 400g on this reel. no problem.
also what do you have strapped to your rod?
it's a piece of plastics in case I need to set the rod blank on the rail. I didn't really use it.
How does the reel compare to your Accurate BV300SPJ? Do you see a need for someone to switch to the Shimano?
I lost the accurate reel to the Ocean one time.. that's why I bought the ocea jigger. I think the ocea jigger is even smoother than the accurate. Both are great reels.
@@JimFanFishing - oh no, sorry to hear. Curious to know, did it come off the rod while you were fishing?

are you using strain braided line with no leeder ? if so whats pound leeder you use on this trip ?
30lb fluorocarbon leader. about 10 feet long.

Is there a site where I can purchase the plastics piece that you use on your rod? or is it custom made?
I bought it on ebay. it's some sort of tenkara rod line holder
I don't use it anymore, actually :)
What kind of line are u loading this with?
20lb braided line with 30lb leader.
How does this game type slow J compare to your temple reef rod?
Game type slow J is lighter, shorter and easier to operate with one hand. Action-wise they're comparable.
Is the grappler different from game type? Im confused.
grappler type slow J is cheaper than game type slow J, but I heard it's still a very good rod, especially for beginners. Grappler has a faster action than game type
Just straight white braid or was there leader? Hard to tell
white braid with 10-foot leader: 30lb Fluorocarbon
