  • Slow Pitch Jigging Reel Review
    We decided to make this video for our customers who are have trouble selecting a slow pitch jigging reel. This review goes over the top two jigging reels available to the states at this moment. After a review of the facts and a lot of time on the water fishing the Accurate Valiant 500n and the Shimano Ocea Jigger we thought a side by side comparison of the two will help you pull the trigger on one or the other. Thanks

My budget conscious reels are out of the Avet G2 series but would love to step up to the new Accurate SPJ's. Again thanks for the fantastic new video. I’m just a beginner at SPJ, Shimano Trevala ‘S’ rod 50-120 gram, and an Avet SX Raptor 2-speed loaded with 30 lb PowerPro. I fish up to 250’ West Coast Fla./Middlegrounds. I use an Accurate BV-2 600 std. for grouper and snapper, fishing bait. Both GREAT reels. My OPINION Shimano’s are overpriced, more bang for your buck with Avet and Accurate, and American made and serviceable here. Looking to add a 100 to 200 gram setup, leaning Accurate BV-500N.
    How about a Avet SX-J Raptor and MX-J Raptor review?

    I personally own both Ocea Jiggers (1500NRHG, 2000NRHG, 2000 F-Type Custom) and Valiants (BV-300, BV-500N, and BV2-500N). I also own several Accurate Terns which are great if you like a Star Drag but don't want auto engage. I know it sounds like a sales pitch at the end, but I think Will is right - you really have to fish both in multiple conditions and your favorite will emerge. It is not hard to sell a well-maintained used model for either of these reels. As for me...I'm keeping all of them. I love them both and it can help with fatigue to switch it up throughout the day.

    How would guys feel about using a Shimano Talica 8 or Torium 12 for SPJ? They both have 6:2:1 38 inch retrieval. The main difference than a normal SPJ reel is the spool width. Any thoughts?

    • @JohnnyJigsTV
      @JohnnyJigsTV  3 роки тому +1

      BigGatorJack, The Talica and Torium are great reels, but its better to have the narrow spool of the Accurate Valient or Ocea jigger for level winding purposes. We always cup the reel while holding the rod allowing us to level and maintain balance and control at the same time. 36" per crank is my cut off point for a Spj reel. I prefer a high gear reel that will produce the most line retrieval as possible. My Valient being at 45" per crank. If you already own the Talica and Torium 100% go for it. If you are in the market to buy I would suggest getting the right tool for the job.

    If you are right-handed, does it make sense to go with the left-hand retrieve so you can cup the reel with the dominant hand?

    • @JohnnyJigsTV
      @JohnnyJigsTV  3 роки тому

      Hey Mark, That is a topic that has been brought up often around the shop. I am right handed and prefer a right hand retrieve. My opinion on it is this.... Most kids start out batting in little league only one way pending on which hand is dominant. If they are good and make it into the higher up leagues they learn how to bat either way pending on the pitcher. If you are new to slow pitch and start out with a left hand retrieve then that is what you will become comfortable with and prefer in the end. Also keep in mind pitching the jig is a joint effort from each hand and while reeling in a fish most of your energy goes into the hand reeling.

    • @markanderson1649
      @markanderson1649 3 роки тому +1

      Johnny, Thanks for the detailed reply. I have only SPJ'd once and it was with right-hand retrieve. I am right handed, but I had trouble keeping the rod but aligned on my forearm. I thought that going with left-hand retrieve might be easier since its similar to spin tackle in terms of keeping the rod but aligned on the forearm. Anyway, your analogy makes sense.

    Ok guys, have you ever used a Gomexus LX50? , 43" retrieve, 7.1:1, 11oz, 60lb drag and decent capacity even in the narrow reel. For $150ish...

    • @JohnnyJigsTV
      @JohnnyJigsTV  3 роки тому +1

      I have never used it but have heard reports. For the price its great but you are going to get what you paid for. The amount of time I spend on the water it is super important for me to have reliable gear. My suggestion would be to spend the extra 🤑 and get a reel that has been tested to the extreme and will last. Just Fyi we are NOT sponsored by any reel manufacturer....Johnny

      @@JohnnyJigsTV Agree, And that's usually my mentality on whatever I buy. But knowing they frequently use the LX50 in Japan for slow pitch has to say something? Combine that with the cost, you can (3) LX-50's for the same price and have money left over. I think they're worth a long term reel review from guys like yourself that spend countless hours on the water. At least... I'd find it interesting.

      @@RH-qk5lt can you point to information regarding LX-50 use in Japan. Chinese labels are good at spreading false information for their product advertising, I have also seen fake IDs created for manipulation of reviews including on stripersonline. Chinese brands also track online commentary on their products and try to suppress negative feedback. I would like to see Japanese use of LX-50, can you give pointers? I am not bashing Chinese products, some of them are excellent and rest are catching up super fast but have had negative experiences w.r.t some of their brands.

Do you know which reel in the world has highest retrieve per crank? .. would love to see a vedio about such reel ...
