Love the t-shirt. Only Beatles fans will know where it comes from. I used to commute quite a bit, and I have met the type on the t-shirt quite often. Who didn't? I loved John's put downs, the eyes fluttering always gets a laugh, and I would imagine that's the sort of thing he'd say in real life. Thanks for the vinyl journey!

"I fought the war for your sort." That shirt is everything! Scary Monsters is a Bowie masterpiece. It came out at the same time as Double Fantasy. I have a great memory of holding both in a record store deciding which one to buy first. I bet you know who won. :)

Another excellent video by the Gold Standard of Beatles/Vinyl UA-cam: Mr. Dixon! I love the discogs tool where it will pick a record at random out of your collection. Once or Twice a week, i let it pick out an album for me and I put it on. My goal for 2023 was to listen to all of my records before I buy any new ones.

It’s always fun to see what is in other people’s vinyl collection. Even if they aren’t all artists that I personally enjoy, I like seeing what another Beatles fan of my age likes.
Peaking at the album spines, I see the Nick Drake albums are due up next. If you haven’t picked it up yet, the new Nick Drake biography by Richard Morton Jack is wonderful. It will likely be the definitive biography for Nick. After 30 years of being a fan, I’ve learned so much from this book and I’m not even close to finishing it.

I recommend getting some Björk records! Her run from Debut-Vulnicura is incredible, and Fossora is great as well. The only album I can’t get behind apart from five or six songs is her 2017 album Utopia. The songs are bloated and almost all are six/seven minutes long. 😂

Andrew, of that later period of Bowie, I think an essential album is 'The Next Day', his penultimate release. Fabulous songs and also very sad as you can tell that he knew he was ill in advance of Black Star. Where Are We Now is heartbreaking, especially the video. Great selection there and I love the new Blur album. I also picked it up on its day of release on blue vinyl.

Just chiming in to say that yes indeed Andrew, that Analogue Productions Stereo Pet Sounds sounds absolutely INCREDIBLE!! Best sounding version I have ever heard and I too prefer it in Stereo (not Duophonic obv). Essential!

@@AndrewDixonMusic I don’t doubt it! Anything AP has done that I’ve heard sounds amazing. I would like to hear it, but can’t really justify buying it. The ‘72 Pet Sounds reissue that was paired with Carl and The Passions as a special 2LP set sounds light years better than the first pressing at least. I do have that. No question the AP demolishes it tho!

Bit random, but I can't get over the way you store your vinyl in the poly sleeves with the spine lined up with the opening, I have the opening along the top edge, and thought this was universal.

    • @AndrewDixonMusic

I have been thinking the same thing for quite a while. I got a few secondhand vinyl back in 1994, and a few more later that decade even though I didn't have a turntable. Then in 2015 I saw an old copy of OMDs Dazzle Ships and that got me back into it all. Our collections have their own stories don't they?
Spotify has been a major distraction since the first lockdown in spring 2020 however. It's interesting hearing your thoughts on Bowie; I have a fair few of his. I saw an old copy of Aladdin Sane the other day, but some albums need time for me to fully commit. It's all part of the experience isn't it?

Great new series. I too, for casual listening, loop through my CDs in alphabetical order (my vinyl has been transferred to CD so just slots in). Currently bogged down in later Elton John albums. Shocked at your lack of ‘A’’s however! On vinyl I have Abba (all albums), ABC & Asia. Every so often I get to an album I probably only played once when bought and you can find great lost music this way, especially for artists with a lot of albums where you usually only play their earlier stuff!

I've often thought about listening to every CD/record that I have many times. There are so many artists/bands in my collection that I haven't listened to in years. In some cases, I forgot that I even owned, but it would take so much time to do that.
My question for you, Andrew, is how much time are you devoting to this project? How many records do you have? I know you have a pretty extensive collection, so it will probably take you a while. I don't know if you would be willing to do this, but if you could document how many hours a week are you devoting to your records, and how many records will you be listening to each time. Will you be skipping tracks that you don't like? It will also be interesting to see if your taste has changed on certain albums you may have bought years ago.

    • @AndrewDixonMusic
      @AndrewDixonMusic  Рік тому +1

There will be no set number of hours, this will take as long as it takes, there will be times when I don't get to listen to an album for a week, then other time when I'm dong 2 or 3 a night. My main focus is on that bottom shelf and a few other box sets, would guess that's maybe between 150 an 200 albums? No skipping!

I cannot understand why people appreciate this album so much.
I played it over and over again ..... but no.
I really try to understand why I don't like it.
And the comparison Brian Wilson and Lennon/McCartney for me is completely unnecessary.
Between Wilson and Lennon there is no connection at all.
McCartney is much better and more consistent.
What did Wilson achieve? ...... some surf songs and for a lot of people Pet Sounds, but that's it.
Eleanor Rigby, Let It Be, The Long And Winding Road, Hey Jude ..... do I need to say more?
The David Bowie albums are gems.
    Take care

Hi Pe, we will have to agree to disagree on Pet Sounds and Brian 🙂
I think Brian was hampered by his own mind and a band who were not in the same league as him expect as singers. But when he was on form he was one of the very best, just a shame he couldn't do it as consistently as McCartney.
