Farofa is what u can’t seem to say lol.. it’s good sprinkled on ur food.. it’s kinda like breadcrumbs to Americans I guess.. but some of that farofa is bomb with their seasoning.. n tastes amazing on most food
That Moqueca has me wanting to go back to Salvador. Nobody except the locals get down with farofa, but after while it is good with beans and for the texture. Awe man, any feijoada?...I spread farofa all over the entire dish, and they fill your plate up. I took a chick to get some, and she didn't know how to eat it. Acai was my morning ritual...and those corner sucos are a cool place to hang out. We have a suco we hung out at in Copa just to chop it up... I wasn't a much of a Capirina "Capi" fan. I'll take that Cachaça, mix it with catuaba, and I be good to go for the whole night. I'm glad you haven't commented about a certain neigborhood yet. It's my getaway in Rio, a well-kept secret and hardly any tourist go there. Thanks for the vid Sly. Your motivating me to upload my Brazilian vids, despite the fact they bad quality. Might do it tonight...
I would love to travel the world one day just like you. What is your job if you dont mind me asking? Just so I can know all the choices that are laid out there so I can hopefully get into one of them.
Bro, Nachos and Burritos aren’t Mexican food. Farofa, not fahaha, is supposed to be mixed with your beans and or rice to add texture and a different flavor profile. You missed on Feijoada and churrasco, both traditional Brazilian dishes. Good price review. Definitely cheaper than eating out in the US, but not cheap by any stretch of the imagination either. I recommend sticking to local cuisine next time. No one goes to Texas for their world class Maine lobster.
Olá Sly... tudo bem, I was going through some of your videos that I have not seen and the Rio videos have me reliving a lot of what I have been missing about Brazil since I was last there, but wow... I am surprised with some of what you've reported... especially the restaurant prices... That brown powder on your plate is called "Faofa" (Fa-o-fa) it's made from grated Cassava and then, pan fried dry with garlic, butter or bacon fat with diced bacon. It's the National topping served with and over almost everything in Brazilian Cuisine, particularly over Collard Greens... the fries were also made from Cassava not Potatoes. Black Beans... that's the low-brow version of Brazil's National Dish Feijoada (Fay-shu-ada) which is a Black Bean Stew made of various cuts of pork (pork shoulder, pork ribslets, smoked pork hocks, sausage and bacon) in black beans and of course, topped with Faofa... it is usually served on Sundays after Mass and on Holidays... even at the restaurants, expect to find Feijoada on the menu only on the weekends. Capirinha (Ca-pier-ñ-ya) is a mixed drink made from Brazilian Rum (Cachaça Branca) and lime juice with lime wedges, sugar and a splash of water (sometimes carbonated water) over crushed ice. Brazilian Rum (Cachaça Branca) is a high proof liqueur perhaps 95-105 proof, in Brandy speak that would be 47 to 52% alcohol per volume... What makes Cachaça (Ca-shaw-sa) unique and different than Puerto Rican or any Caribbean Rum is that in the Caribbean, Rum is made from the first pressings of the Sugarcane; whereas in Brazil, Cachaça is made from the last pressings... it's actually slightly different in taste, slightly heavier with more carmel and molasses flavor as compared to Caribbean Rum. You mentioned Moqueca (Mo-care-ca) it's Comida Bahia and Espirito Santo... and your reference to Etoufee is a very good approximation, but in Bahia they make Moqueca with Shrimp and Crab... did you try Acrajé (A-care-a-shay), also Comida Bahia... it's a Black Eye Pea fritter that have their skins removed and made into a mealy paste like corn meal, and stuffed with a spicy mixture of dried shrimp and crab which is then, deep fried in Dadente oil (palm oil)... really popular with the street vendors in Salvador, Vitoria and all throughout the Northeast, but also in Rio de Janeiro (Southeast)... it's really good, I love Comida Bahia... the fruit juice you had was Suco do Caju (Cashew juice)... it's made from the fruit that contains the Cashew nut... it is good... how about Green Corn Ice Cream (Sorvete de Milho or Sorvete de Maiz)... when I first had it, it surprised me because it's sweet and it taste just as it sounds, but it's good also. However, my favorite Brazilian Ice Cream is made from the Graviola Fruit (Sorvete de Graviola)... really, really good. As I mentioned earlier, I was last in Rio de Janeiro in 2015 and those restaurant prices to me, were surprisingly high... keep in mind that the portion sizes for the foods served in Brazilian restaurants are generally portion sized for two, so it's a lot of food... yet, I have not seen prices that high even during Carnaval. And considering that the exchange rate has been basically at R$ 3.75 : US$ 1.00 for most of 2018 and all of 2019, those restaurant prices should have been roughly half for what you've paid... And since Brazil has been in recession from 2012-13 thru 2019 and only now beginning to recover since the last Presidential election in Brazil... those prices are basically US Dollar denominated and who in Brazil can afford them except the upper middle class and the rich... this is Brazil, not Hawaii! I say this because those Barrios where you ate and the prices you quoted for the restaurants are where I stay when in Rio... I stay in Copacabana in Zona Sul which also includes Lagoa, Ipanema, Leblon to the south of Copacabana, and Leme, Flamingo, Lapa to the north... they're all in Zona Sul... decent areas and nice spots to be in while exploring Rio. And of course, I would never eat Mexican Food in Brazil nor do I eat in Ipanema except with friends or when I take a woman out on a date... Ipanema has some high profile restaurants, not all; but the best food with the widest variety is in Copacabana. Sly, you mentioned Açaí (A-sai-ee), I love Açaí... I guess that I must drink it 2-3 times a day and I never though of it as having "a whole lot of sugar". In Brazil and in Rio, Açaí can be had everywhere... corner fruit juice stands everywhere serve it, because it's very popular and cheap... it's served cold and made like a super thick slurpee, but without the level of ice of a slurpee, delicious... I drink Açaí strait-up or eat it with bananas and granola (never though to add Cachaça, but that would be a good idea also), but it depends... Açaí is also an Aphrodisiac... so, I drink a lot of Açaí when I am there... Anyway... watching your videos has me in a travel back to Brazil mood or maybe to Colombia, possibly this year... Eu tenho saudades pro meu Brasil... possível nisto ano... quem sabe, vou fazerá uma viagem logo ao Brasil ou à Colombia ou quem sabe pelos ambos países...
Great info!!! Mmmm mmmm mmm Food looks amazing especially that plantain/ice cream. 😂🤣mojito that a black person made🤣😂completely understand 💯. Rio is really nice but a little pricey for me$$$. Keep doing your thing!!!Much respect and blessings to you✌😁
@@slyslife yes i completely agree with you!! Ive been intrigued by Rio since i did a project on the city back when i was in middle school. Definitely an exotic destination worth visiting with beautiful people and scenery
Like I said if you stay in that tourist area maybe you will be a little sheltered. They are more use to seeing black tourist, but the economic situation for blacks is much much worse for black Brazilians than it is for we blacks here in America. Brazil (upper and middle class) has an hatred and lack of respect for anything black. Brazil is a class society and anything on the lower rungs of that society is hated.
To thrive ...I mean really thrive in Brazil speaking Portuguese is a must. Am I saying that you can’t enjoy yourself if you don’t speak Portuguese? No, you can but at the same time that enjoyment will be limited. Being able to speak the language will be a blessing and a curse. It will be a blessing because you will have an unrestricted ability to meet and dialogue with whomever you choose outside of tourist areas and honestly that’s where real gems are found, but the curse is it will expose you to a part of Brazil that’s not glorified on the post cards..
azure kite ....I disagree 100% no, I was wrong. I disagree 200%. In any society of mixed race people there exist varying degrees. There are those with more European blood/ancestry than others. There are others with more (African blood than others)....before I go any further have you even visited the country??? Do you know the terms mulato..Pardo...neguinha..???? If what you said was true there would be no need for these terms. Listen not to be rude but do some “basic” research and get back to me, because now I am wasting my time.
azure kite ....on further not if what you said is true why do some identify as Afro Brazilian???? There words not mine. Do some research, and I hope you have visited the country before you try to debunk comments of someone that has been there more than 10 times...
Bro i am going to be completely honest with you ... if you're looking for more views and subscribers, quick growth of your channel please take note.. Most of your viewers are men , western men and most of us are not here to watch a video we saw millions times already in other channels talking about apartments and where to eat in brazil and how to Samba .. SHOW US THE WOMEN for god sake , we are here (MOST) for no other reasons show us the women or interview one you can even do the walking thing chasing women locals or women thats ok give us action not boringness about foods smh ..These guys might beat around the bush but im going to be honest i don't care about were to eat in brazil you are in freaking brazil god damn it man where is the fine women ... half Brazilian /half ethiopian speaking ...
Caipirina is excellent. Brazilian deserts are the best! Prices are expensive.
I am a Brazilian, but I never be in Rio, and this video will help me a lot if I go to Rio one day, thanks for the video.
Sim
** Farofa
** Caipirinha made out of Cachaça and is very diferent from Mojito made out of Rhum.
Farofa is what u can’t seem to say lol.. it’s good sprinkled on ur food.. it’s kinda like breadcrumbs to Americans I guess.. but some of that farofa is bomb with their seasoning.. n tastes amazing on most food
The pronunciation killed me bro, on you for trying tho! Farofa is the bomb, with a Brazilian wife you already know I put that on everything.
Sly keep doing your thang brother 👍
The food prices are expensive
Nice tips. I'm from Rio and didn't even know the Thai place. Definitely wanna try
You have nice and very helpful Chanel man! Good luck to you!
Thank you Sly. This is a good advice!
Some of those prices sound like stateside prices. I guess you were living it up on vacation. Nice video bruh!
Brazil is more expensive than US.
Um Sly did you go to these places alone, and if so were you nervous?
Realmente nosso almoço aqui no Rio de janeiro não pode faltar o feijão preto com arroz 😂😂😂😂
