    When I was sewing clothes growing up, my Mom taught me to sew every seam twice - at 5/8 and at 3/8 - and then trim with her pinking shears, which I still have. I still have clothes put together that way and have never had to repair any of my own seams.

    Thank you so many options ! I haven’t been doing anything to prevent the fray and was getting nervous about it suddenly

    Great message. I’ve been thinking about investing in a serger but didn’t want to spend anymore money right now. Thanks for sharing this information.

    I love pinking shears. I recommend buying a good quality pair. I love my Fiskars that I bought on sale at JoAnns fabrics. They have a lifetime guarantee. I like French seams on sheer easily fraying fabric. I pink the edges of my quilt fabrics before pre-washing it. No more rats nests of thread,no wasted fabric.

    Amazing. I didn't think I would learn much from this video. Once again, Angelina, you have surpassed my wildest expectations. I learned so much and I've been sewing for more than 50 years of sewing.

    This was so helpful; thank you!! I broke my serger when up-cycling some jeans and haven't sent it to get fixed for months. I felt super uninspired to sew because of not having a serger available. This has me wanting to sew again! :)

      Yes, you can definitely keep sewing without one. Sorry to hear about your serger.

    I use fray glue when I literally I know that it's gonna fraying (depending on the fabric ). Especially jean fabric. This is the channel I actually learned about fray glue..!! But this tutorial showed extra valuable & helpful tips..!! But sewing bias tape is hard I suck at sewing soooo close. Thanks alot..!!

    My absolute favorite way to finish my garments is to use bias tape. And I make my own using the same fabric or a fun contrast. I still plan on saving up for a serger but till then this works!

    My 1st garment I did french seams and it looks so pretty. I does take twice as long tho. I didn't account for the extra time needed.

    Do you think that using iron on bond strips with bias tape would work, maybe for thicker fabric?

    Very helpful! Question about pinking shears: is it possible to sharpen them, maybe by cutting sandpaper? I have a pair that was my mother's, at least 65 years old so *really* dull!
    Love your hair, it's the first thing I noticed.

      I was going to comment about this - you can give them a little bit of life back by cutting through tin foil (aluminium foil)

    Thank you for sharing this tips with us,I want to know if I can use twin needles with a beginner sewing machine to make it on a stretch fabric?

    • @BlueprintDIY
      @BlueprintDIY  2 роки тому +2

      As long as it takes standard needles and has a slit opening in the plate, not a single hole opening.

    Hi! I am new to thrifting and I just bought two cute shirts only to get home and try them on and my bust is too big!! If you get the chance, can do another video on expanding clothes? I used the first on done jeans and they are so cute! But now I’m not sure how to fix a shirt with to little chest room. I’ve thought about lace down the side, but I am not actually sure where to start!

    • @BlueprintDIY
      @BlueprintDIY  2 роки тому +2

      If you want to make room for your bust by adding to the side, you’ll have to add to the underside of the sleeve as well.

    • @carrie9716
      @carrie9716 2 роки тому +1

      @@BlueprintDIY I’m not sure what to do about that. I might just make one a tank top and the other just hold off until I get a good reference for how to expand a sleeve! It’s so complex idk what I’m going to do.😂

    To keep the bottle from continuing to ooz liquid, stick a straight pin in and that will stop it. Make sure you don't have any rust on it or it will discolor the rest of the liquid in the bottle.

    I always thought you have to use the same color bias tape with fabric. Do you know if it looks okay on shirts/ ie: professionally done if you used different colors? I'm glad you did the different colors

    • @BlueprintDIY
      @BlueprintDIY  2 роки тому

      Contrasting color and even exposed bias tape is on trend right now. It’s all about whether you want the bias tape to make a statement or not. I see men’s suit coats with contrasting bias tape all the time.
