"the child is grown and the dream is gone" "I have become comfortably numb" I was a teenager when this song came out, and I have personally never had a lyric stick with me as profoundly as these words have. I was a troubled kid and Pink Floyd gave me hope and a sense of not being alone...their music saved me from suffering more than I might have.
I''m old, 73, saw Hendrix '68, Zep '69, '70, '72, Stones, Band, CSN, was at Woodstock '69, ...and so on. Beatles fan since day one (greatest influence in music since, Beethoven, Mozart, Bach). My favorite all-time lyric is that lyric, encapsulates LIFE in one sentence...only it's the whole measure, "when I was a child, I caught a fleeting glimpse, out of the corner of my eye, I turned to look but it was gone, I cannot put my finger on it now, the child is grown, the dream is gone". No "and". Perfect. We've all had that moment in our lives where we thought we understood...everything. But, (unfortunately) reality takes over and our understanding is bombarded daily with what, IS...real day to day, life.
At 4:54, when keyboardist Richard Wright glanced to his right, into the camera, with a smirk, letting us know that HE knew he was part of one of the most iconic live tracks in music history. So cool.

👏👏 Roger Waters was the original bass player who doesn't perform in this concert. He wrote the lyrics to this song. It's about how he felt on stage after being given a sedative for a bad stomach ache. When on stage his hands were numb and his vision was blurred but he continued on with the show. This reminded him of the feeling he had as a kid with a fever.
Imo, its also 1 of the few songs i prefer Roger doing vocals. I think he captures the overall tone better from The Wall, but David is always 1st in my heart on anything else. The way he caresses n finesses the strings-- he just sings thru his guitar. Learning to Fly and Sorrow are also 2 good ones ta listen to
it was an absolute pleasure to see you react to this. it seemed to really move and touch you. I know that over the last 30+ years since it came out, i get emotional and tear up EVERY time I hear it. Good music should do that right? Well Pink Floyd 's Comfortably Numb does it for most of us. A masterpiece.
I’m late to this party, but I noticed that no one mentioned the best way to listen to Pink Floyd, especially “The Dark Side of the Moon.” You need to have headphones on, laying in a room lit by candles (a basement rec room is better), laying down (a bean bag chair was my choice the first time), with your friends and all of you in an indica state of relaxation. That’s how I heard it the first time in high school when the week it was released and it was an experience I obviously have never forgotten. Floyd is a trip through your mind’s and emotion’s inner corridors which you probably don’t realize exist. Their music was a point of excitement and eager anticipation of what it would be like as an adult to journey through life. Listening to them now after having put most of my life’s journey behind me is a different experience. Now their words are haunting and illicit melancholy from the difference between youthful imagination of what life would be like and how it actually played out.

You said you felt relaxed by this and you could listen to it lying down. I find the best way to hear Pink Floyd is lying down in a dimly lit room with no distractions. I agree with a comment made that "The absence of pain is not happiness." is the perfect interpretation of this song.
In an interview released in the 80s, Waters said that much of the song comes from something that really happened one evening when, in order to allow him to perform in Philadelphia, the doctor gave him a sedative for a severe stomach ache, which had probably caused by nerves. On the stage, his hands were numb and his vision blurred, but none of this derailed the crowd, who continued to dance and sing. And it was out of this that one of the main themes of The Wall came about: the disconnect between the public and the band. “ That was the longest two hours of my life, trying to do a show when you can hardly lift your arm.” Roger Waters

If it’s possible to get a contact high from memories of being privileged enough to experience these extraordinary artists live many times. Those lasers looked like ocean waves to me and I indeed was in a state of bliss for the entire show. The positive vibe with all those beautiful souls in one place focused on the same beauty. That’s what humanity needs more of, we are one with each other and our creator! Sigh I so long for those days, I pray we can abolish the evil in this world and get back to living like we are not just another brick in the wall. After all we are just lost souls swimming in a fish bowl! Wink
Amazing band, one of my fav songs of theirs. The Wall and Dark Side of The Moon are both iconic albums This one is from The Wall which is also a movie that I recommend as well. Great reaction! Thanks 😊
The song in itself is a warning to young people related to heroin use how they can become comfortably numb as time and life passes them by. It was one of the band members addiction to heroin that left him to sick to perform where the other members had to get him something before he could perform this is in the song.
i have the concert DVD of the PULSE concert AND pink Floyd WERE FAMOUS for their Light SHOW'S AND DAVID Gilmore's guitar solo is considered to be the best one EVER
Its a key song on a double album called The Wall ...The songs are all integrated in a story about isolation and the struggle to make contact in the world, Themain character is called Pink, a disturbed rock star ,,
Pink Floyd is Legendary, they are a Vibe! The band formed in London in 1964, they have sold over 400 million albums worldwide. More than any other Rock Band in history,.. except for only The Beatles! You should check their studio version of "Comfortably Numb" on their 1979 The Wall album, it's a beautiful arrangement with a string orchestra. I think you'd love it.
Wow , Thank You For This Backstory On The Band . I Had No Clue Of Any Of This . Such Brilliant Accomplishment 🤍✨ & I’ll Definitely Take You Up On That Suggestion , Thank You !!
The list I've seen doesn't say that it puts them at 5. It goes The Beatles, Eagles, Queen, Led Zep, Pink Floyd. Maybe different lists around. An different ways of calculating it all.
This song is about a performer getting a stimulant shot (potentially Heroin) before having to go onstage. Listen to the lyrics with that in mind and it makes even more sense ❤
saw 5 times. 1 of 14 sold out days in a row. last concert of The Floyd.( except "live aide" reunion). 200,000 watts of power 200 ton stage, 128 wireless speakers. outdoor needed FAA clearance. ANY song on this concert is a must. Best non band video ever Pink Floyd " on the turning away" ( 1989-07-15) FM by thinkfloyd61 . 7 million views. relevant even today. Most concerts are loud - too loud. This one was louder and so so so so clear. It was a phenomenal experience all around. I'm so glad they captured it for so many others to experience it.
Ani Difranco and Dar Williams do a cover to this song that does it justice. It's just as beautiful in its own way. I don't give that praise lightly, as Pink Floyd is one of my top 5 all time favorite bands
Welcome to the GREATEST TWO GUITAR SOLOS IN THE HISTORY OF ROCK! The brilliance of David Gilmour is unmatched! This song is from their rock opera The Wall which is kinda a throwback to the descent into drugs and madness of the original lead singer Syd Barrett. At this point in the album Pink has gone catatonic and the vultures who make money when he sings shoot him up to get him on stage to perform. So he’s become Comfortably Numb. After this he really goes dark. Go watch the movie with the great Bob Geldorf as Pink. It’s a psychedelic trip.
I have 2 favourite songs of all time especially Live. This song and Telegraph Road Live Alchemy Tour 1983 by Dire Straits. Both equal in epicness. T.R. has so many peaks and troughs and an epic finale. My 2 fav. band's of all time and my 2 fav. Guitarists ever in Mark Knopfler and David Gilmour. Cheers from Australia 😊🎸🎸
If you want to hear the fantastic lady backup singers of Pink floyd watch Great Gig in the Sky in Venice Italy 1996. Truely incredible. Hope you like it.💖

If you haven't already, here's a suggestion from another Pink Floyd concert: Here is the title: Pink Floyd - On the Turning Away Remastered 2019 - UA-cam
Invest in a good set of headphones (an ear bud doesn't cut it) and listen to the whole Wall album; start to finish--it's a rock opera. Once you understand the context of Comfortably Numb, it will make more sense to you.
If you've ever done LSD, then this song was about an acid trip, though Roger Waters says it's based on getting shot up with horse tranquilizers before a show do to a severe stomach ache.
This is the one band that I would choose to listen to for the rest of my life if I had to choose one band... Now I understand what I've just said holds no merit because I am a nobody I get that.... But I'm a nobody that has a great taste in music...
Mia, I just watched your review of RUSH Tom Sawyer, you mentioned you like all the sound etc. So I see this is your only Pink Floyd reaction. Like mentioned below one of the best ever. So I would like to suggest you revisit Pink Floyd again, BUT BUT BUT PLEASE start with STUDIO versions first. With Floyd you need the studio cuts to get ALL the originally intended music. To prove this to yourself, take a minute to listen to Comfortably Numb, the studio version to experience the difference and then I think you will have found another band to do a deep dive on like Rush.
First of all I love a woman who knows how to make herself look elegant and not a hussy LOL your hair is rocking! And thanks for reacting to one of the greatest rock guitar leads of all time. No Wonder Why !! They Are Brilliant 🤍
Thank You For Taking The Time Out To Leave A Comment . I Appreciate The Support !!
What “top 5”???
Name ONE band that does what these boys do!!😳
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
(There’s only ONE David Gilmour😉)
Its a key song on a double album called The Wall ...The songs are all integrated in a story about isolation and the struggle to make contact in the world, Themain character is called Pink, a disturbed rock star ,,
First rule with Pink Floyd is Listen, then listen more, eyes shut. The most engaging, involving music of the 20th century, imho ❤️
That’s Exactly How I Will Listen Moving Forward 🤍
Pink Floyd is Legendary, they are a Vibe! The band formed in London in 1964, they have sold over 400 million albums worldwide. More than any other Rock Band in history,.. except for only The Beatles!
You should check their studio version of "Comfortably Numb" on their 1979 The Wall album, it's a beautiful arrangement with a string orchestra. I think you'd love it.
Wow , Thank You For This Backstory On The Band . I Had No Clue Of Any Of This . Such Brilliant Accomplishment 🤍✨
& I’ll Definitely Take You Up On That Suggestion , Thank You !!
The list I've seen doesn't say that it puts them at 5. It goes The Beatles, Eagles, Queen, Led Zep, Pink Floyd. Maybe different lists around. An different ways of calculating it all.
check out the album version of Time by Pink Floyd. I would recommend doing the album versions of their songs first ✌️
Great Recommendation , I Appreciate This Feedback Mike .
Disco Ball is an FU to music critics who said Floyd would not make it cause they don't play 4 minute dance songs.
No Way ?! Wow , That’s Spectacular !! Jc Coming Through w The FACTS 👏🏽🤍 I Love It !! & Thank You For Taking The Time Out To Leave This Comment . I Can’t Wait To Check Out All Their Other Songs !!
Most concerts are loud - too loud. This one was louder and so so so so clear. It was a phenomenal experience all around. I'm so glad they captured it for so many others to experience it.
The light show is the eyes of the song
Has to be listened to as a complete album with the door locked
I saw Pink Floyd in 1987. Hands down my favorite concert to this day. I have seen so many amazing concerts but Floyd has something extra special.
You can listen to the whole concert, puls tour -94. And....Pink Loyd, Queen, Steve Ray Vaughan and AC/DC. Best seen/listen to live.
Great Suggestion , I’ll Definitely Check It Out 🙂
It is nice to see some one never heard the song b4 understand what it's about👍🤘
That VOICE!!…..THAT GUITAR!!!🤩
David, you changed my Whole World 🌎!!!!! 🙏✨✨✨✨✨
Such A Beautiful Comment William !!

With eadphones better
Thank You For The Suggestion Will , I’ll Add It To My Reaction List 🤍
@@DoIttMiaaaa thank you! You'll love it I promise.
pink floyd are a british national treasure legends
Great song, great reaction. Thank you! Subscribed
Thank You Brian . I Appreciate The Feedback & Support .
Ani Difranco and Dar Williams do a cover to this song that does it justice. It's just as beautiful in its own way. I don't give that praise lightly, as Pink Floyd is one of my top 5 all time favorite bands
I played the cassette so much the labels wore off, such a great group!
Loved how you got into the music.
You just listen to the greatest band of all time and the greatest guitar solo ever
love your channel! girl you 🔥 🔥 🔥
When an electric guitar speaks directly to your soul...
You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth Ford !!
These Are Magnificent Suggestions , Adding To My Reaction List Now .
Thank You For Taking The Time Out To Comment Mark 🙂
@@DoIttMiaaaa your welcome 🙏🙏
If you want to hear the fantastic lady backup singers of Pink floyd watch Great Gig in the Sky in Venice Italy 1996. Truely incredible. Hope you like it.💖

Thank You Bill , I Appreciate The Continued Support !!
Got ya , didn't it. Don't worry , it gets everyone.
I feel like I've been listening to this track my entire life , I'm 55 .
Great reaction! Maybe next try David Gilmour "a great day for freedom", live in Gdansk
Stay awesome virtual hug
Every guitar dreams of getting Dave Gilmore for Christmas lol
This Comment Was AWESOME 😅🎸 I Love It !!
Incredible
Like most great British bands and we are the greatest we are song writers musicians and poets all in one.
The following Pink Floyd albums are Concept Albums (all songs together tell a complete story)... Dark Side Of The Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977) and The Wall (1979). The Final Cut (1983) is ify, as it was the last album with Roger Waters being in the band - leaving in 1985. *search on Wiki the album title to get the story behind the concept.

Pink Floyd was formed in 1965... their (most likely) last album was "The Endless River" in 2014. PF had 15 studio albums... 3 live albums, 9 compilation albums not to mention multiple live dvds and solo albums performed by below members of the band. * for the "live" shows they have more musicians.
Syd Barrett (short-lived founder; guitar plus) the originator and quirky eccentric; inevitably the consequential muse. * January 6, 1946 (rip 2006)
Roger Waters (bass) was the cultivator (seed sower), the lyrically conceptual prodigy, secondary vocal and co-maestro of songwriting * September 6, 1943 (age 79 years)
David Gilmour (guitar) was the placidity, guitar virtuoso, the silky smooth voice and co-maestro; the equilibrium. * March 6, 1946 (age 76 years)
Richard Wright (keyboards) was the essential underlying symmetry; musical nurturer. Occasional singer. * July 28, 1943 (rip 2008)
Nick Mason (drums) was the heartbeat, structure and foundation; the sole member involved from the emergence of PF to the last recording. * January 27, 1944 (age 78 years)

You Are Amazing . Thank You !!
@@DoIttMiaaaa I am amazing aren't I?!? ~wink wink!! :D
I thank you for your patience. No yakking. Good music is good music.
The quintessential headphone band.
Without a doubt the best band live I have ever seen and I’ve seen a lot Led Zeppelin Rolling Rush Stones Michael Jackson ac dc genesis 😁👌
If you haven't already, here's a suggestion from another Pink Floyd concert:
Here is the title: Pink Floyd - On the Turning Away Remastered 2019 - UA-cam
you should listen to the studio version. wear headphones. 👍
I was there....it was spiritual.
Wow , Such A Cool Experience . Thank You For Sharing Roman 🙂
Invest in a good set of headphones (an ear bud doesn't cut it) and listen to the whole Wall album; start to finish--it's a rock opera. Once you understand the context of Comfortably Numb, it will make more sense to you.
🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
If you've ever done LSD, then this song was about an acid trip, though Roger Waters says it's based on getting shot up with horse tranquilizers before a show do to a severe stomach ache.
This is the one band that I would choose to listen to for the rest of my life if I had to choose one band... Now I understand what I've just said holds no merit because I am a nobody I get that.... But I'm a nobody that has a great taste in music...
...madam, good luck,..удачи!!
British bands are the best
Don't forget all of Led Zeppelin maybe some Lara Fabian and David Phelps until next time stay well and stay smooth
Awe David 🤍 This Comment Is Rocking !! Thank You , I Appreciate The Feedback . Also I Will Check Out These Suggestions .
I Appreciate Your Continued Support !!
Put on some headphones, turn off the lights, lay in a beanbag chair and RELAX. Next thing you know it’s 2 hrs later.
I Have A Huge Feeling You’re Right Rob . Moving Forward , That’s Exactly How I Will Listen To Pink Floyd 😅
Love your reactions Mia. React to Pink Floyd "On The Turning Away"
If you don't get this song, you were born without a soul.
