Born and raised in Inglewood and South Central but there's just something about East L.A. and Boyle Heights that's unsurpassed! It has to be the balance of deep culture.. I'm a 44yr old trokero now and I love when I have deliveries anywhere in East L.A and Boyle Heights... It's great to view material and narrated by someone who knows what they're talking about. I was also a tagger back then and never met Chaka personally but yes he is a legend. I remember getting chased and jumped in the panic zone off the 10fwy back in 1990 by some gangsters who caught us tagging and called us scribblers!😂.... Damn good video bro
His assessment of the projects infrastructure being very similar to the inside of the jails being a reason why people from the hood feel comfortable in the pen is spot on 👌 ....dude is very wise, intelligent, and knowledgeable....best hood vlog I've seen by far!
Yeah, I understand completely. I was born in Chula Vista and even though I didn't grow up there, I grew up in a border town and I knew not to go into the park whenever I was notified and could also read the "writings on the wall" to understand what was going on. Living in a border town means lots of drug trafficking and gangs but I never actually saw any of that but at one point I had a bodyguard with me when I attended middle school and I could sense people watching out for me because I never caused trouble so nobody bothered me. My dad was also born in sinaloa, where the drug cartel and el chapo was born but that's a different story altogether that has shaped the person I was growing up. But regardless, I plan on making the move to downtown L.A. in the near future because it is the most affordable place in California you can have but regardless, I am grateful for this video because if you don't have California blood running through you and understand how things work in the hoods and all that, you could get into a lot of trouble. I know how to navigate California and sense where I'm supposed to go and not go. It's basically all about respect. Gangs are basically tight knit people trying to survive and taking care of their families. You don't question anything that they're doing and mind your own business. You are responsible for yourself and only yourself. If you do eventually end up going to the wrong neighborhood accidentally, a gang member will politely tell you that you are in the wrong place and leave and you should do it fast with quiet, no questions asked. If you hesitate or start asking questions, you could or not get killed, depending on who you're talking to. It's a very easy concept to understand. Just follow the rules of the hood and there won't be any problems. If you start something, rest assured, you won't be the one finishing it.
The guy who is doing the tour is really nice to listen to. IDK why, I think its his voice and mannerisms. He is so calm and knows what he is talking about. Its nice to hear him recall so many fond memories of his childhood.

@K Will true....but that doesn't change my point. compared to the east coast, the whole of California has Mexican history.....obviously there are differences, just like there are between Orlando Puerto Ricans and New York Puerto Ricans, or Orlando Puerto Ricans and Miami Cubans, but they're all Carribean latinos just like in California theyre all Mexican. you probably see all the differences because you are used to all the Mexicans being the dominant latino group, but on the East Coast Mexicans are few and far between compared to Puerto Ricans/Dominicans/Cubans
I was born and raised in Boyle Heights! My parents moved us out of there after one of my cousins got killed in a drive by. As a mother, I would NEVER want my kids to live there. I’m so glad we got out of there.

I agree South Houston, more of the South East (Greater East End/Third Ward/Fifth Ward) pretty ghetto , but I think South West Houston ( Sharps Town/ China Town / Belleair) is the worst part of Houston.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I was born and raised in Lincoln Heights (still live here). I'm always driving through Boyle Heights too and enjoyed learning about the history.
Always great learning more about Boyle Heights. My grandfather moved here from Mexico in 1910. The Italians were here also at one time. Lan Franco street is named after a famous Italian American also and gangster Mickey Cohen grew up in boyle heights too. Look into the neighborhood connection with the olympic auditorium because in the 1930s and 40s boyle heights had a lot of fighters boxing out of it. Thanks for this video and I look forward to more.
Gilbert,Arizona-not LA that’s for sure, anyway I moved here just to raise a family 16 years later,I’m now divorced, probably going to move to Portland Oregon
I was born into Pico Gardens Projects for low income families mainly all Mexicanos in the early 90’s until they told us we had to move because they knocked them down and were rebuilt into modern society. This video gave me the chills and showed me my childhood playgrounds 2018 style.
We played a show I believe right across the street from Mariachi plaza at a Quince hall, i had no idea how historic it was, I legit remember unloading gear from that spot and hearing the mariachis playing hella loud at 3am I loved that so much!
I lived on Mott and Eagle for 20 years and man this brought so many good and bad memories! I wasn't from a gang but I used to get down with vatos from Evergreen and White Fence all damn the time! Got some good stories growing up in Boyle Heights. Thanks for this upload bro! 👍
Much respect to you. I grew up in city terrace and I ways drive through Boyle heights whenever I visit the area. Pretty cool stuff. Keep it up brother!!✊
They bang the hardest on the Texas/Mexican border but that's nothing go be proud of. Reynosa and Nuevo Laredo are the most infamous. Something y'all don't know nothing about.
Santiago aveles Yes so you we’re told what they were. My parents were Mexican Immigrants so they were never involved and when my dad would get asked on the streets where he was from he’d always say I’m just a Mexican and they would leave him alone but I do remember the time gun shots were fired and they landed inside of my house right next to where my dad was sleeping 😪 luckily nobody in our house got hit
Honestly bro. You should start tour business of that area. You seem extremely knowledgeable of not only the recent, but also historical story of that area. I think some folks fail to realise that what are thought as the rough areas now are the older or oldest parts of any town. The history and architecture pre dates anywhere elsein the city. You could have a great little business for yourself in that area.
I grew up in Boyle heights and now live in Colorado. Lots of great memories from my crazy youngster days. I went to hollenbeck junior high and Roosevelt high.
FINALLY!! A well put together video of a bunch of neighborhoods of gangs without all the tough guy bullshit and trying to say who's tougher than who. Definitely infomative and thought out. Thank You!
I grew up in New Orleans and live in Texas. I've never been to Cali or heard of Boyle Heights (although I've heard of Ramona Gardens before somewhere) and really didn't have an pre-existing reason to watch this (let alone finish it) but he attentiveness to the things that happened around him and manner of delivery is what kept me around. Some people are just trying to survive and navigate this crazy world and just end up in rough spots but can still get by without letting anger/aggression/fear consume them.

I used to see CHAKA tags from Long Beach all the way to Venice Beach back in the early nighties. He got up!
As an east-coast Mexican-American, this is very interesting. I've always wanted to live in CA because the deep chicano roots.
@K Will i feel that. but also outsiders can help you see the familiar in a new way. thanks for your perspective.
K Will same with all the Californians romanticizing Portland. Tell them to stay where they are. Its not Portlandia.

Barber Mom aye aye I heard Oregon has beautiful trails and the weed is good

90s was the real banging days
Late 80s
60's & 70's gangs were active AF, especially in Boyle Heights / ELA

I was born and raised in Boyle Heights! My parents moved us out of there after one of my cousins got killed in a drive by. As a mother, I would NEVER want my kids to live there. I’m so glad we got out of there.
My condolences
What part where you from in Boyle Heights
This was a good interview homeboy represented his area well. respect from Northside Houston
"North Houston", lol. Calm your country road ass down son. That side of town ain't as ghetto as LA county.
Billy The Kid I was born and raised in southern Cali all over LA and SB county now I’m a truck driver and deliver all over Texas and Houston is a big city but it’s no where near as big as SoCal hood wise
I agree South Houston, more of the South East (Greater East End/Third Ward/Fifth Ward) pretty ghetto , but I think South West Houston ( Sharps Town/ China Town / Belleair) is the worst part of Houston.

My man. I was born and raised on the East Coast in Boston and live in Houston now. I'm not Hispanic, but if you live long enough you'll realize theres real n%%%as everywhere. I've been to Cali..my wife is Mexican and raised in L.A. Real recognize real, never sleep on someone elses hood. People work and survive the best way they can wherever it is.
Jose Reyna also tango eses
This dudes real OG aren't no punk . Respect G .
Every man that claims a neighborhood, should be knowledgeable and informative about his hood like this man.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I was born and raised in Lincoln Heights (still live here). I'm always driving through Boyle Heights too and enjoyed learning about the history.
Lincoln Heights. Same here..
Was just at that new Lincoln Kitchen and Tap on Friday. Lol..
Homie did a good job on describing n talkin bout us chicanos n his community
Always great learning more about Boyle Heights. My grandfather moved here from Mexico in 1910. The Italians were here also at one time. Lan Franco street is named after a famous Italian American also and gangster Mickey Cohen grew up in boyle heights too. Look into the neighborhood connection with the olympic auditorium because in the 1930s and 40s boyle heights had a lot of fighters boxing out of it. Thanks for this video and I look forward to more.
Angelo B. He need a channel
Lol enters the Hazard Projecte “Gotta be careful over here” you’re damn right 😂🤘🏼
Serio😂💯
I heard big hazard is one of the oldest in east los

Omar Zaragoza nice when u have a family, my family moved back to Cali,no reason for me to be here anymore
I moved to NorCal a year ago. I share your sentiment. I miss east LA sometimes.
Loved this. Was very informative and refreshing to watch. And its exciting to see people really tell the truth about our communities
Your Beautiful girl
I was born into Pico Gardens Projects for low income families mainly all Mexicanos in the early 90’s until they told us we had to move because they knocked them down and were rebuilt into modern society. This video gave me the chills and showed me my childhood playgrounds 2018 style.
So informative. That guy & u did a great job!
Thank you.
One of the best hoodvlogs. I could listen to him all day, can tell he is from that area and loves his hood. He portrayed his hood very well, true G.
We played a show I believe right across the street from Mariachi plaza at a Quince hall, i had no idea how historic it was, I legit remember unloading gear from that spot and hearing the mariachis playing hella loud at 3am I loved that so much!
He should be the mayor of Boyle Heights
You're a great storyteller and this tour is really fascinating; thank you and g'day from Australia. Hope I can visit Boyle Heights one day!
dope bro, im from Chicago this dude knows hes History u should bring him into your vlogs more
I remember CHAKA from the 80's and 90's. All up and down slauson. Legendary
Marlo Tremell my thoughts exactly! I wonder if it’s the same OG from back in the days.
Probably my favorite vlog so far. Very educated guy speaking. I actually learned something. Great video.
Probably one of the most interactive blog you posted! Much better then the South LA blogs
I lived on Mott and Eagle for 20 years and man this brought so many good and bad memories! I wasn't from a gang but I used to get down with vatos from Evergreen and White Fence all damn the time! Got some good stories growing up in Boyle Heights. Thanks for this upload bro! 👍
Ronin did an absolutely amazing job with this tour… he’s a really smart dude and a true life mentor for his community!
Awesome content!!!
😁👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
this right here is a interview homie
Much respect to you. I grew up in city terrace and I ways drive through Boyle heights whenever I visit the area. Pretty cool stuff. Keep it up brother!!✊
Man, he knows his community. This brings back so many memories! Thx for the vid!
East LA is a special place and its it's own world you cant compare anywhere else in LA to East La
They bang the hardest on the Texas/Mexican border but that's nothing go be proud of. Reynosa and Nuevo Laredo are the most infamous. Something y'all don't know nothing about.
give more details...
Slowed Hits Texas politics are all fucked up and Zetas ain’t active in Califas because they would get wiped out by that Big SUR
Boyle heights aint east LA
@@mannybedolla8229 you dont know shit
Nice, I like how he explains the gang borders, "2 mile radius". Its true, I live in East La and I can name 5 different gangs in a 5 mile radius.
Thank you for showing all us unfamiliar people around the barrios in L A. I'm not from LA but really love the history and LA vibe
Thank you for your interest in LA and it’s people
Late 80's and 90's it was on and cracking!!!
You guys both named the 2 best eras ever lol
60's & 70's, Boyle Heights was active AF ;)
I grew up across the st from The Estrada projects and I had no idea they were “the projects” I just thought they were apartments 😂
Lol so did but I always knew they were projects my uncles were from WF and cousins grew up in old 4 st project's
@@flowerpetal3901 the struggle was real my gma still lives off Lorena n Olympic my mom moved us to NM when i was like 13
Santiago aveles yes very real. Oh so you must have attended Lorena St elementary?
@@flowerpetal3901 I did I plan on moving back after my boys graduate 5 more years all my fam still lives out there
This is one of the most educational vlogs without all the extra ish. No flagging, banging, gang signs, but you know those neighbourhoods are serious.

"That's highschool police" 😂 Big difference.
Great video 💪 Detail.
One of your best vlogs bro. Ronin got so much knowledge of the Boyle Heights history. Much respects
Born and raised in Boyle Heights 🙌🏽
Damn you sexy
Schola Gee she is tho dog
What's your insta lol
This guy could be a historian/documentarian, carries himself well, thinks for himself, etc. Much respect to listen to him, very interesting person!
This is not what I expected. Dude talks in complete sentences and knows actual history about the city he loves...
Now this my Russian friend is a interview.
Boyle Heights had a Russian community back in the days...
This guy gaved really good knowledge speach for the neighborhood he really new what he was saying ..💯💯 He knows every part of the history of the neighborhoods you can see he grew up in the 80s. IM FROM THE 90S....
This guy needs to be on discovery channel special on Boyle heights.
I dated a chick from Roosevelt I remember meeting her after school. Drove down from Huntington Park.
My pops use to take us to el tepeyac back in the 80’s.
Born n raised in bh on breed street

Best video and commentary I’ve seen so far
I WATCH LOTS OF VLOGS FROM YOU, BUT THIS BY FAR IS THE BEST ONE, BC YOU GOT SOMEONE STAIGHT FROM THE HOOD, AND WENT INTO GREAT DETAILS ABOUT THE WHOLE CITY, AND YOU DIDNT TALK, YOU LET HIM DO HIS THANG, VERY GOOD VLOG, FOR SURE TOP 3 , BC OF HOW HE WENT IN GREAT DETAIL, AND GAVE LOTS OF COOL INSIDE INFO, LOVED IT!!!!
I grew up in Boyle Heights and my grandma lived in Romona Gardens. I also went to school in Romona Gardens. I crossed the bridge everyday walking to school. I felt almost as if we shared the same experiences, places, sights, sounds. You showed what is to me, Home. Thank you for this great doc. I'll be watching more. 💗
