I’ve been eating Nigerian food but never thought I’d date an African Man, especially not Nigerian. Lots of stereotypes..one being poly. I start dating an Igbo man. You’re right they are very “religious” we agree on many of the same morals, values and principles. We pray and study together. He’s been teaching me how to cook Nigerian dishes and teaching me as much as he can about his language and Rich culture. I’m very impressed. We’re planning a bae cae next mth. Then he wants to take me to Nigeria and show me around. He has houses there and tells me he wants to settle down back at home. We’re going to be on the road working together soon. I’ve met a handful of his relatives that stay here. Haven’t met mom/dad back in his country yet. I’m happy. Kind of scared..he’s a couple of years younger than me and I keep hearing other Nigerian women say Nigerians especially Igbo only marry from their own tribe. I believe he has plans for me. I just don’t want any issues with his Family and traditions etc

I’ve noticed these from my igbo guy(we met here) we’ve been talking over 4yrs(online)and it’s only last year he introduced me to his family, we talk about our future(the house, how many kids we will have, the kind of car, the kind of business, deciding me training our kids,..etc etc...😊😊) we used to talk irregularly before but he’s more interested talking to me now, he’s planning to take me home to his family)

Hi I currently have been talking to an Igbo guy. He stated he’s divorced, he’s already here in the states buti haven’t seen a divorce decree yet. We have been on one date but prior when we first started talking he was stating he didn’t want to rush into anything. That he’d been dating but women want to move so fast in getting marriage and that’s he’s just getting out of one and didn’t want to rush things but after our first date now he’s wanting to see me all the time and I told him at first he. @ Giggy it's because of our culture, that the man should be older and also the head of the family, and yes children is always a vital part of marriage for Nigerian men and even their families. Again our culture really respects elders that is, anyone older than you, be it just 1 or 2 years older. So this is where it all starts, because wife is to respect husband in our tradition. Society also kind of frowns at it, families also don't want it, so you know, it goes on and on. But you still meet men who don't mind, but very few of them.

@Manda Echesi Yes sis, I get that.. But it's on rare occasions that they do that, they won't even bother to take you home if they don't care. Let's all agree that some relationships just don't work out and there's nothing anyone can do about it.
If a Nigerian man introduces you to his family, mom, dad and siblings and still drops you, then you need to take a retrospective look at the relationship and check what happened. Family is everything with most Nigerians, and if his family did not get the right vibes from you, they will negate that relationship and that may make him change his plan for you. There were instances where some men are known for philandering, these are exceptional cases and the family may just accept him as a black sheep and hopes he settles with one of the ladies he has been bringing home.
