I had a "French drain" installed in my yard several years ago to help with the drainage issues. It stopped water from going into my cellar (house built in 1900) and pooling on my sidewalk. It works really well, you won't be sorry for doing it, yeah it's not a fun project but sometimes we have to do what we have to do besides planting. Good luck.
Loved visiting garden centers this morning ☕️…as it’s freezing rain/sleeting outside here 😭
Love the idea of a formal look for your secret garden. I’d like to do that in my side yard. Feels less intimidating to upkeep the “formalness” in a smaller space. Looking forward to watching you develop that area.
Yes, structure first! I put a tiny towers arb in our skinny back courtyard! Love it!
Morning 😊
I have got to get my hands on the white lilac vine!! 💖I have pink flowering jasmine surrounding my patio - it is a beautiful vine. Fun shopping trip Janey! I am looking forward to the new look in your secret garden. Xxx
Oooo fun shopping day!!! Those are going to be so beautiful in your garden!!
Nice selection 😊
Oh my gosh, those lilac vines are stunning!! I wish I was in the right hardiness zone for those! 😍
I have used blocks or stakes to surround the base of a top heavy planter to keep it from falling during our windy storms. Might be something you could put on the spiral topiary so it won't fall again.
I had a thought: What if instead of running that water off to the street and the drainage ditch, what if you split it and send it with perforated pipes and two pop-up heads coming out of the ground (they are green) and give that extra water to your lemon tree and the other tree nearer the fence?? Free water is always a good thing!! You're going to dig anyway, so why not save the water for your trees. Oh, and did you know you can freeze those lemons and make lemonade in the summer? My MIL did that at her Rancho Cordova house and the small lemon tree splitting her property and the neighbor's. Have a great week and happy planting!!!
Yes. The hedges!!!!!!!!
Additional garden art on the office front, fence, and in the planting area will enhance your garden. The Garden Man looks wonderful on the fence. I love that color of the Garden Man. Having metal sun/moon wall art on the fence areas and on the front of the office are ideas. You can paint the metal art the colors you want that will complement your garden/taste.
I'm anxious to see your garden thru out this growing season and beyond. HAPPY GARDENING!
Hi Janey 🌺.Wonderful tour at the nursery . What beautiful plants you bought and I am glad you found the white one like lilacs vine ,Its so pretty and it looks like snow in my garden .I loved this unique flowers of climats. I hope our nurseries here can provide them . Happy planting . Have a wonderful day .🌻🌺🌻🌺
Nice haul!!!
So glad you went with the round Holly , it will be a great co treat to your corner plants
Love shopping with you. Especially since it has just started snowing again here and another storm coming on Saturday. Plus, I didn't spend any 💰
How much would it cost to remove the asphalt -- could you take it out gradually, but where it's especially problematic first?
Living vicariously through you as i watch the snow fall here in NY. To see clematis in bloom,so good for this gardeners soul.
Thank you for the inspiration. This time of year my garden looks dead. 😮
If you plan to change the fence, you probably should try to make the wire panels stand on their own, without support from the fence.
In terms of order of priority, would it make sense to get rid of the driveway area that you don’t need sooner? I know you’ve mentioned it’s expensive, but it could help with your drainage issues and it would help in the overall design. Maybe worth putting other things on pause until that can be done? Either way, looks great!
You want the water to be absorbed into the ground and not be drained away. To allow that you need to decrease the amount of asphalt in your front yard so the water can be absorbed. The whole amount the water that lands on the asphalt is trying to be absorbed along its edge.
Better you found out now before you put thee tended pathway in. 👍👍👍
Is the fence in the secret garden already fixed?
So much color! The only color we have is white! Enjoy! So jealous!😂😂
You should be shopping with Robbie-doesn’t he get a discount on Monrovia? 😂
Exciting new plants with beautiful interest. Janey, I laugh when you say I have to have that sounds just like me then I try and focus on what I came for 😂 That’s gardening!
I’m SURE it’s just me, I would be more concerned about puddling water if it stayed a puddle. IF I were as dry as you are I MIGHT want the water to STAY on my property UNLESS it NEVER soaked in ? I BELIEVE there are other ways to stop the rain from destroying your flower beds but again THATS JUST MY THINKING. I BELIEVE Jim Putnum also has the same thoughts on trying to keep water ON YOUR property unless it’s forming a standing water puddle that never leaves. Of course if it’s destroying your home in anyway way it should be diverted . JUST MY THOUGHTS ! ! And please take it with a grain of salt ? ❄️⛄️💚🙃
