I appreciate your presentation style. Your voice is a pleasant tone, your grammar is good and most importantly, you do not have the "like" habit. It is very hard for me to listen to some people on youtube who say "like" every other word. I hope I am not being snobbish, but it is a pleasure to see someone who knows how to speak properly these days. Thank you, I love you channel.
And the hummm, etc.🙄
Yes this is why I love listening to Laura. Her voice calms me down and their fun family activities always makes me happy too.
And her info is very useful, interesting and doesn’t take forever to say it
Hope you had not got a serious spring fever Laura looking at all that icy looking water had to remind you winter is still here love your channel ❤
You're not being snobbish at all! Like you, I truly appreciate Laura's presentation style. She is very articulate and her demeanor is just lovely. I also like the fact that she doesn't indulge in gimmicky, over-the-top headlines or make outrageous claims. So refreshing! For all those reasons this one of my favourite gardening channels.
Laura I'd love it if you could do a video (sometime before the 2025 season kicks off) highlighting a few of your favorite containers of the past few years and maybe some lessons learned about plant compatibility in container combinations. It would be wonderful to have a resource like that and your thoughts as we plan for the upcoming season. Thank you as always for all the beautiful content you continuously gift us!
Yes, I would like that too! Container recipes for spring and summer!
Me also! Laura and her Mom are the Queens of stunning arrangements and designs!!!
That sure would be helpful. Thank you for suggesting this😊
I would really appreciate that as well 😊
She has - check out her site ❤
How pleasant to sit and chat about plants in your gorgeous Hartley, surrounded by your plant babies. Praying you and the family are feeling better! Can’t wait to see the garden covered in snow.
Can I just said that I loved getting to see the former triangle garden at 1:46 with the gorgeous iron arbor one more time! That’s a space that is on my vision board 😍✨
Yes! My exact thoughts!
I'm going to have to watch this twice. Next time, I'll have my pen and paper for taking notes on what I want to plant. Thank you, Laura ❤
I'm loving all the old video footage! Nice trip down memory lane 😊
Same here! Loving it
You are always so comprehensive in your videos. Thanks for sharing your passion for gardening combined with ‘because I’ve done it’ expertise!
You’ve successfully planted a whole lot of ideas in my mind. I enjoyed this video dreaming of all the possibilities for spring planting. Those succulents are gorgeous!
You are my "book of knowledge"!!! Thank you for your input on your experience. The older I get, the more I just want to garden...... My inner peace in this chaotic world!!! Such a serenity that I never knew!!! Get your hands dirty and create some beauty!!!
I just want to thank you so much for your channel it has meant the world to me while waiting for my operation I have been catching up on the shows day and night. It is so uplifting I love the beautiful home you are working on which is so well deserved by the way what a hard worker you are but also so inspiring because I love the shows with your mom and sister heading out for fun and shopping. Usually I wait for someone to gift me flowers but I decided when I went shopping to buy a huge plant and a big bouquet of flowers etc etc just anything that made me smile and it really added so much as we just moved a year ago and are started our own smaller version of what you are doing so learning all about plants from your channel has taught me lots. I have 2 adult daughters and we have a similar relationship as you do with your mom and my youngest will be making me a first time Grandma ( other than my oldest daughters grandpup 😂) Had my operation so I'll be running to the garden centre in no time. ❤ from Ontario Canada 😊
I just love seeing different plant combinations too. It’s the color palette of the garden. Thank you for your ideas. Come on Spring!☀️
Wow, Laura! You are surrounded by the most beautiful collection of colorful plants, there in the Hartley, as you share your favorite "in ground" plant types with us. Just stunning! Listening to you talk about and showing us all the shrubs and annuals that you have planted around your property get me super excited for spring. We have some more sub-zero temps in the 10 day and through Valentine's Day (I'm a florist in MN, so we really watch the weather for this holiday 🥺)and being reminded that enjoying beautiful plants in the garden is just around the corner brings me hope of good things to come. Thank you for always spreading your joy and sharing your knowledge and experience with others. You are a day sparkler ♡
Hope everyone is feeling better ❤️
Couldn't take my eyes off the succulent display in front of you while you were talking 🤩🤩🤩 Great info !!!😀
Wonderful list of plants for sun and shade! As you love to see other people's gardens, will you be asking for viewer's pics of their gardens for inspiration again? 🌱🌺🪴Searching your channel, I see that's been a couple of years since you've done it and it was popular. I thoroughly enjoyed it! 💚
Laura is really enjoying your gift Aaron those succulents are amazing. Sitting chitchatting with us on this inspiring video encouraging us to try all kinds of combinations to enjoy our gardens.
My great aunt had a beautiful English garden in front of her old stone farmhouse. The blooming boxwoods (no matter how unpleasant) remind me of visiting her in the spring to see the baby lambs and goats (kids) in their barn as a child. 💚
This was a good idea, Laura. It was nice to hear you speak about the plants you've grown and have success with. It gives us a head start in our own gardens.
It's good you're giving the family some space to recuperate with. Such a precious bunch. ❤
Thank you for giving the high and low end of the zones. That's so helpful. 😊
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
We really enjoy watching and getting good garden information, you guys are sincere not simply “acting”, that’s why
you have so many
watching !!
Blessings from Texas🇨🇱
Thank you Laura 🌸 Love all your content. Hope family is feeling better. God Bless
sunpatients have done very well for me in the Deep South. Both sun and shade 😊 bloom from last frost to first frost. Zero maintenance ❤
Have done well for me in East TN zone 7. Except last year in our drought. Deer ate all the blooms in September. So sad they could not get water. Typically the sunpatiens last until mid November.
Sunpatients have performed well in both sun and shade for me too here in zone 5 New England.
They’ve done well for me in nw Oregon too. Zone 9
I love when you make videos like this! Its extremely helpful! ❤
I love watching your videos Laura, I’m originally born in England and my family have always gone back and forth to the UK, and I developed my passion for gardening from England and it’s so good to watch your videos! Thank you ❤
Laura, so helpful…thank you! Love seeing all the color and your beautiful gardens because we are gloomy and ice covered right now. Can’t wait for spring.
What a beautiful setting. The succulents are so colorful.
Thanks Laura❤
What a great video. Super, super informative! Thanks a million Laura. I can’t wait to shop. You are the best.😊
I love seeing all the footage from the warmer weather. I always think it would be so nice if there were extra videos from earlier in the year to help us dream for the spring. I watch back all the garden tours over and over 😂
I wish I could grow all those plants and flowers here in Venezuela. Greetings from a far-off land.
These are my favorite kind of videos. It was on one of these plant reviews that I first met Laura and found Garden Answer. Such a fun boost to my winter garden dreaming.💭 🌸🌺
Good morning gardeners!
❤Thanks, Laura! Hoping you all feel better soon!
So glad to see you back! I did Enjoy looking back on memories while you were out. Hope you all are feeling better now!
💜🎶Good morning Garden Answer .. I was missing ya 8 am .. there you are !! Laura I'm planning to buy a load of boxwoods this Spring .. thanks for the inspiration !👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 💜🎶🇨🇦
Kudos to whoever edits your videos Laura. They are excellent in adding pictures and names and finding old videos of you that have to do with what you're talking about. Excellent video today. So informative.
Good morning all have a safe and blessed day ❤️
You have been a part of my morning routine for a couple of years now and it is such a pleasant way to start the day especially in Winter. I garden in zone 3 and sometimes it can be difficult to find plants for trouble areas like shade so I appreciate videos like this that have such a wide range of plants. Thank you so much for your amazing and reliable consistency through out the year. These -40C Winter days can get quite bleak and your videos are a ray of sunshine for sure.
These are some of my favorite videos, when we discuss types of plants and flowers. I'll rewatch it over and over
Thank you Laura for your never ending knowledge of great plants! Although you have caused me to want more and more plants! It's actually great, just kidding. I have made a list of plants I want to purchase this spring! I haven't had luck with perennial geranium. I want to try again but I don't want them to die! The oak leaf plant is one of my favorite. I have taken branches that grow low at the ground that root and then transplant them in other areas of my yard free! Oh I wish I had lots of money to keep buying more! So instead I will enjoy through you and your videos!💚
Thanks you Laura for your insight 🪴
Afternoon Everyone and what stunning varieties 🥰
Thank you Laura! We cut down a lot of trees last year (still have a lot!), so these recommendations for both sun & shade are so helpful!
I consider vinca minor invasive. It was in my south facing garden when I moved in and I managed to get it all out. It was getting into the roots of the shrubs and taking over. It might be okay for shade in a large garden when you don't want to plant anything else but where space is at a premium, I would not recommend it.
My neighbor had a pot with Vinca Minor on her porch and she didn’t trim it. It ended up taking over her flower beds. She offered it to me 🤦♀️. No way !
Mine escaped from a planter and now rules the roost!
💕 love the beautiful information thank you God bless you and your beautiful family 💙💓🩷💜💚💛🤍
That is good to hear about Huchera, you introduced me to them, then saw them at our local garden center. Have tried for a few years now, they have done beautiful for the summer but so far have always lost them over the winter. Now I know that is just how it is, thanks! We are similar zone as you but sit high (7500 ft.) On the edge of the mountains in Northern NM. Have a loverly day!!!😊
Good morning! Hope everyone is feeling better. Such wonderful, pretty plants. Gives me so many ideas for planters and landscape. Spring can’t come soon enough but I do need to get my plants ordered.
All those succulents 🥰!! Hope you all are feeling better.
Lovely to see all the flowers and greenery! MN here, and we are also chilly and snowy 💙 one flower that did really well in part shade (maybe a couple hours of dappled sun daily) was the proven winners angelonia- i had 3 tucked in between a rose and perrenial hibiscus (part sun location) and they thrived. They were a soft pink color, can't remember the name, but they bloomed through frost in a wetter soil situation. I was surprised how happy they were. Going to try that again this summer 😊
Oh yes!
Great Video and very informative. We are in zone 8b so not all apply to our area but fun to learn and gives me ideas. Thank you for sharing. Have a blessed day everyone.
Same. We’re in Texas, zone 8
That boxwood smell is actually very nostalgic for me. It takes me back to my grandparents’ farm where they had a boxwood hedge around their circular drive. I actually love that smell because of all the good memories it triggers.
I feel the same way about privet bushes in bloom .
This was so incredibly informative!!! I’m planning our gardens in a new home we just moved into and this gets me excited. We have gorgeous established boxwood plantings around the house and a fountain, reminding me of yours, so I was eyeing to see what you put in there with it as an accent color. Always love your inspiration!!!
Your vast knowledge of plants is mind-boggling! I really like these reviews - it helps me remember the name and what the plant looks like. I’ve become a better shopper for it! 😂 Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise. Hope everyone is on the mend.
Love the longer videos. Time to relax and enjoy. Thank you
Thank you for this beautiful video😊💐
Laura, thank you for this topic - it’s exactly what I need this winter! Both a north and west facing flowerbed around my house (zone 6b) have part shade situations, with some differences, and I really want to have continuity between them. I have some boxwoods, lady’s mantle, and wild rose heuchera that I also LOVE. I will definitely be repeating those but it’s so nice to have this list of new ideas. To suggest another plant in the “nuanced” list, I have serendipity alliums in a north side flowerbed getting 5-6 hours of sun that still bloom beautifully, but have maybe two thirds of the number of blooms as they might in full sun.
Laura, I was looking for your notes sheet! 😂 You’re such a smart expert in your field! 😊 I’m ALWAYS impressed! Thank you for the clips from your garden in summer! I’m so excited to think about my summer plans for our beds and containers. ❤
All of the plants you named are wonderful and would love to grow some of them. The Hartley looks so lush and beautiful as you name off the plants.😊
Ajuga for us in zone 8 ,GA it’s a perfect , salt tolerant plant . So “ dog” friendly ! Spreads nicely and easily divided!
Those presents sunset ones love! Good morning Laura and Aaron! Hugs and love!❤😊❤
Great info! I hope everyone is feeling better!
You never cease to inspire! Thank you so much ❤
Luv Vinca, someone taught me when I was little to pull a blossom and stuck the sweet nectar from the tip, I still do that. Remember a yard just overtaken by it on my walk to school if I missed my bus.....energy for the steep hills ahead! Thanks for the overview! Taking notes. Pixie 😊
Stuck, or did you nean suck?
I love your plant profile videos. I find myself referring back to them over and over. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
I am just a beginner..I am learning so much here..really inspiring..thank you Laura..🎉
What a perfect video for this winter morning!! I had to keep pausing it because my mind would go to different places in our gardens and I would wonder if that would look nice there or over here!!! We are going to have to pull some Miss Kim Lilacs this spring that started dying for whatever reason last year! But, now I have new opportunities to plant new things and I'm looking forward to that so much!! Here in the very northeast corner of Ohio our winter has been brutal this year!! We planted so many new things last year including a Mock Orange that I was thrilled to find, a weeping cherry tree and a Robinson Crabapple!! Also, Hakonechloa grass, cotoneaster, bridal veil astilbe and some beautiful dahlias!! I know the dahlias are annuals in our area but the others are perennials and I'm a bit concerned about them!! I'm hopeful and can't wait for spring to see what survived!! Sorry to be so chatty but this video was so inspiring and I'm overly excited!!! Haha!!! Thank you!!
Good Morning!🌞 I will keep these plants in mind as I continue planning! I do plant the Sure Fire Begonias & Colorblaze Coleus! They are a couple of my favorite varieties along with the Dogwoods! 😃👍🌿
Thanks!
Wonderful video! Hope everyone is feeling better! ❤
You are amazing. Great ideas. I imagine that it’s difficult to come up with new videos in the middle of winter but you deliver because you are soooo knowledgeable. Love looking at your beautiful Hartley and colorful new succulents. Showing how your garden looks in season is hopeful for the coming season. Thanks
I LOVE these type of learning videos - thank you Laura and GA team!
Laura, how do you all decide on a topic for the daily videos? I love watching them all, even the organizing of the barn and your cooking.
Always looking and following your perenial list because im older and want stress free planting, but i do adore adding sweet potatoe vines to my pots our front! Thank you for this list dear Laura ❤
I look at the view behind you all the time and enjoy it
I have 400 caladiums in between variegated Loriape edging my property and beds. the variety is Dragon Heart (sun or shade). I live in central Florida where caladiums are bred. So I purchased them from local growers as bulbs. Mine appear every April and go strong until November/December. I recently added a whiter variety - Florida Moonlight - in pots on my patio moongarden. I also have HB Haldiman under my oak trees with variegated ivy. Love caladiums!
Wonderful, informative video!
WONDERFUL VIDEO!!!!! I will come back to it often - thanks.
Amazing to see how much show you still got. We are up in 5 degrees celsius here and in my small garden where it’s sheltered from the wind, it feels like 15 degrees celsius. almost like a warm spring day. It almost makes me want to start plant all sorts of things, but instead ive gone around and tended to weeds and unwanted grass instead.
I love love the tree lined long drive along the side of your home!❤
I will have to watch your video today again because I could not take my eyes off the beautiful, colorful succulents in front of you!!! I want to do an arrangement like your birdbath,,,it’s my favorite of all time! Aaron did such a wonderful job of choosing your succulents and I love them all but especially the larger ones. Such gorgeous colors! Well done Aaron!!! Also loved seeing your old rusty arbor in that flashback! Can you use it in one of your gardens somewhere? I know Aaron doesn’t like it but it’s a beaut!!!
This was great. I have a nice size back yard that is almost all shade, a little dappled light here and there and I have been wanting to plant lots back there but have been struggling to come up with ideas. This helped immensely ❤
I recall your saying you needed to add another arborvitae to the end of your arb fence…just saw a what seems to be a new variety (didn’t see it available in last year’s online searches) called Private Jet- fast grower, zone 3, 15-20’ T and 4-5’ W without pruning…perhaps a consideration for that spot & let us all know if it really does grow faster. That height and width, so great for those with narrow side yards and bi-level houses next door…but marketing and reality, you know?...Love you guys!!!…
A great list thank you Laura!
I appreciate this video so much. Very valuable info for gardeners. Thank you Laura.
Having a lot of trees on our property sun vs shade plants are always a struggle along with the deer pressure. Thank you for sharing your list. I’m always trying to push the boundaries. Forsythia has done fine over the years for me. Planted bush honeysuckle and inkberry holly last season so fingers crossed. My PH is high like yours but have had wonderful luck with Encore azaleas even though they don’t repeat bloom.
I learned to very much this morning, thank you! Cannot wait to start gardening!!
I’m in the midsouth planting zone 8a and I can confirm that the begonias and coleus are both super plants for us as well! The sure fire begonias are my favs!
Laura you are so right about the Vinca's . I'm along the SC coast, mine are the same color you showed, They grow through rocks, yes the rock garden where I have 7 Azalea bushes. They are invasive and just died last week from the "rare" snow we had. FYI, Love your videos, children, family! You are Blessed!
This was SO helpful, I have a front area that gets mostly shade because of a tree but some hard afternoon sun as the sunsets and I’ve struggled knowing what to fill it with. Thanks so much! Love all your help!! I can’t wait for spring!
Thank you so much for all the details and ideas for shady areas! Much appreciated !! Inspiration for spring.
The only ones that came to mind that were not mentioned were: 1) some aralia's do well in shade -Spikenard Aralia cordata - lovely limey coloured leaves to brighten dark spots; I think there are other varieties too; 2) white wood aster.
This content is very helpful thanks Laura 😊! Your Hartly is such an eye catcher surrounded by beautiful new plants & succulents❤!
So reserve then as the conversation you can sense the excitement the knowledge overflowing. Lets go get some flowers and plants. Already in 80's on and off.
What a great list of beautiful plants today.
Your wonderful variety of plants is so beautiful. I see it and want to be like you.
Seattle here. Love yews! dark deep evergreen needles, and I agree 100% - I have them in full sun, full shade, and a couple that are half full sun half full shade. They all seem to grow with the same density, in shade they don’t stretch toward the sun, and sun or shade they grow at the same rate. The variety we have gets quite tall but max 2 feet wide. So they really provide an elegant solution for a lot of tricky spaces.
Thank you for sharing 💚🏠
I agree Gardens are designed in the winter 😊
Thanks for this video! You did this last year, I believe, and I ordered some of your suggestions. WOW! They performed well for me. Now I have a whole new list to try! Thank you Laura.
What I appreciate so much about this video is the variety and growing conditions of plants the plants you mentioned. I live in California zone 9b. So many garden channels I watch are in cooler climates and showcase plants not suitable for my hot hot zone. You mentioned several that I can grow in my full sun areas. Thank you!
Bacopa and Diamond Frost euphorbia and Jazzberry supertunia have all done well for me in my front porch pots on the north side of my house. Depending on the time of year, they get a little morning and evening sun. 😊
