  • The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, amongst other MPVs, has been suffering from the popularity of SUVs in recent years. In fact, while people carriers used to be the wagon of choice for families, most buyers now go for something that looks a bit more sporty and off roadish. To that end, manufacturers have been focusing on creating SUVs that fit the bill and have taken their eyes off the MPV ball, however, BMW hasn’t. Instead, it’s set to tease families out of small SUVs with its great looking MPV, the 2 Series Active Tourer. That won’t be easy though, and it’ll take more than just good aesthetics and a premium badge on the nose to convince the clued up public. So whats BMW offering us? Well, the new series 2 Active Tourer has been equipped with a class-leading interior and bundles of standard equipment. There’s masses of room up front so even very tall drivers will have plenty of space in the high-roofed interior. There’s lots of headroom and the generous width means the driver won’t end up rubbing shoulders with their passenger. The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is also priced very well, matching the price of an equivalent Mercedes B-Class and cheaper than a Ford S-Max.
The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer comes with the choice of a petrol engine with two different power outputs and mild-hybrid assistance as well as a diesel option. There are also two plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants, perfect for those wanting to keep running costs low. If you keep their batteries charged, the official electric-only range of over 50 miles is highly impressive!
The premium badge will ensure resale values are among the best in the class. If you’re planning to sell on, this could well work out to be one of the cheaper cars in the class with all ownership costs factored in. Finally, when it comes to reliability the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer was the most reliable MPV, beating the Ford Galaxy, the Mercedes B-Class and the Volkswagen Touran and for added peace of mind, all New BMW 2 Series Active Tourers come with a three-year unlimited-mileage warranty with PHEV versions getting a six-year or 60,000 mile warranty for their high-voltage battery.

I just bought two days ago the 220i mild hybrid version full equipped in white and I’m so excited waiting delivery by end this week. I feel lucky because I ignored this model while I was refusing other brands because their “impositions “ to accept leather option (which I hate) linked mandatory to my choice for a sun roof. ie, Lexus, Mazda, Volvo, Honda, etc. And I’m so glad that BMW lets much more flexibility to choose options so freely.
Re the owner’s book, I always prefer physical reading than electronic. It is so boring some times, that I prefer to take it home and read or to park in a quiet place and reading, testing, during a couple of hours to get used. Each time I get a new car I do it so.😅
    Very good your review!!
    Rgds from Spain.

My 230e should be delivered in about a month from now. Can't wait. That 230e is really something else. I'm rather a sports car guy (driving an AR Giulia Veloce petrol for the time being), but owning powerful cars is simply becoming too expensive due to the heavy taxes (and the safety cameras, especially the nasty section control ones). And moreover, I'm slowly getting too old to loose my driver's licence... :-D Excellent footage, great analysis. Keep up the good work! Greetings from Belgium

Excellent review and mirrors my feelings on the car. I bought the top spec 230e x-drive Msport PHEV version and am over the moon with it. Quick, frugal and quality I’d forgotten was actually available. Only two questions……did you drive the top spec version and if so what did you think of it?

Yes, Top of the range was superb & fully loaded. As I said in the video I wouldn’t bother with the heads up display, but everything else is on that car was necessary.

Happy to hear you're happy with your 230e. Mine should be arriving next month. Can't wait to try the boost function... 😀

I though BMW's had voice activation no need to use the touch screen? I think the finger prints would drive me nuts so voice activation would be a good idea to help with that problem.

Thank you I enjoyed your review, I am expecting to take delivery of the 225e model in a country of weeks so it was good to see what you thought of the car. Did you try out the voice control.

C'est le gris Storm Bay. Perso, je pense que c'est un coloris à réserver plutôt aux modèles plus sportifs. Greetings from Belgium. ;-)

Good grief, im so annoyed if that big thick manual isnt in the car, when I need to change a bulb or change a setting the last thing I want is to be poking around on a phone app to find the answer, I want to look it up in a physical manual

I would buy one although with the mild hybrid diesel.
I will write on the rear windshield the following: There isn't anything better that front wheel drive, just to annoy all tyre smoking orthodox bmw fans.

3yr warranty for a car that costs 30k+ is unacceptable in this economy. Most ppl change cars after 3 years? Seriously? You live in a bubble mate

Kia offer 7 years, Hyundai 5 yrs, Toyota offer 10 yrs if you service your car there every 12 months, even MG offer 7 years manufacturer warranty. There's no excuse for a quality brand like BMW to offer 3 years warranty, it should be 5 years minimum if they have any faith in their products.
