Yep, I’m one of the “never owned a BMW until this car” people. My current 2AT has been absolutely excellent. Very happy with it.
The interior feels like it’s from an electric car. The 2 Series Active Tourer brings the sophistication of 7 and 5 series too a smaller size car which is very nice

I own a 2019 218i Active tourer. It's really serves the purpose of a perfect family car. It's really sad to see the idrive knob is missing. That is really a great feature what I mostly use after break/clutch/accelerator.

Picked up my new 223i on the 22nd of March, it has now covered 185 miles, I don't do very long distance journeys nowadays and also have a new BMW iX 50 to play with hence the low mileage. I have just received a call from my dealership asking me to take it back to them as it requires two to three hours worth of software updates. Lovely car but the early recall is a surprise to me!
I 've 2017 220i Active Tourer and yes it is a perfect family car who want both plentiful space inside/trunk and BMW quality. I'm happy with my F45.

So I am retiring shortly and I was looking to change my 430d Grand Coupe XD M Sport (great drive) for something more comfortable and not so low down! Looked at the 1 series and the various X series models. I have had X5's, X4' and 2 X3's in the past, but nothing stood out to me, particularly on the price front. So took out the 218d M Sport AT for a test drive.....fell in love with it. Great to drive, brilliant tech and I no longer have to struggle in and out of a car. A serious alternative to an SUV. I agreed a reasonable discount on list price, plus a 5 year service pack at no extra cost and first year of road tax. I collect this weekend. Looking forward to my new 2 AT

More often than I thought Tim - I bought it in Oct 2019 - it’s the AllTrack 4motion ( now discontinued) with 190bhp diesel
- reasons for buying: carrying my Mum’s wheelchair; moving house; moving stuff in storage; 4 wheel drive; trips to recycling etc - also used to commute to London from Tunbridge Wells - I still would like versatility of space - the Passat estate is under rated - never seen one like mine in over 2 years - complements my MK2 GTI 😊
Always had Toyotas, my last car was the verso. As those are not made anymore and there is nothing comparable in the Toyota range, I got an 2AT this year. My first BMW and I'm happy with it.
I know that I'm a broken record (Do people still understand that reference?), but I don't want a tablet for climate controls and my entertainment system. Great review, of course, as always.

I have the 225e phev and it’s great always get 65 miles of range , and as far as the rotary wheel is concerned it’s not a problem.
65 miles from a PHEV is excellent! So much better than the old days of 'lucky to get 25 miles'
How u get 65 miles of electric range? BMW only say around 50 ish?

Not trying to be pernickety, but… you said 7-speed box; are you sure that’s correct and it’s not the normal 8-speed ZF that loads of BMs use?
Just interested to know if that’s the case - if so I wonder if they’ve done that because it’s front wheel drive as opposed to rear/4 like most of their range…
No its a 7 speed dual clutch. The original 220i had an zf lookalike made by Asin which is a real 8 speed automatic with torque converter (and is brilliant!).
Pretty sure it is a dual clutch!

I have 2023 220i M Sport. I think is the worst car i’ve ever had. My biggest problem is the new Idrive 9. Android auto isn’t working, navigation is showing my position with a 7 second delay, so unusable. I’m waiting for 4 months from BMW to provide unnupdaye to fix the issues. Am I the only one with this problem. Engine and gearbox are not that great either.
I'm driving one of these at the moment. There are three main things that I hate about this car. Firstly, as you mentioned, no iDrive dial! Using the touch screen is annoying and having the climate controls on the touch screen is even more annoying. Secondly, the gearbox is absolutely terrible. You can feel it changing gears and it's VERY slow to respond. The gearbox has caught me out at roundabouts, starting off too slow and then I put my foot down further, rather than the car moving it just switches gear and delays you even more, then shoots you off way too late! Lastly, the brake pedal, as you mentioned, it's not very good, takes a lot of pushing down for anything to happen and then it's too hard!

Hello soggy sausage!! Totally agree the removal of the idrive twirly thing system 7 is a gutting!! I mean how many years now have people got use to that since the E60 perhaps 2003.. it’s now a completely new future direction to Bmw ergonomics. I don’t like it!! :( However this new 2 series active is seriously good looking as a family wagon :)
Tim can I ask a serious question? I’m fortunate enough to own two lovely BMWs but unfortunately one must go.. so I have a G30 520 xdrive saloon.. March 2017 (cheap road tax) all the bells and whistles sunroof, head up display, etc… then the other is a G21 330d xdrive touring.. Sept 2019.. high road tax.. again all the bells and whistles sunroof, pro pack, etc.. love both cars but one needs to go because my wife requires a Mini Electric!! What do I do?? Any sensible answer would be appreciated.. Thanks
I'd keep the 3 Series to be honest - but depends how hard the road tax is kicking you in the wallet. But depends how much you get frustrated by the 5 Series' saloon boot!

Yep the 3 series it is! :) It’s that bit more modern and actually the fuel consumption is not that different in eco mode.. but have that extra super power and torque when needed… plus it’s a touring :) will be able to stick on a tow bar for our bikes (looks better than on a saloon). I’m going to miss the 5 series though.. really superb car. Totally solid and feels like it will last for years! Still with petrol diesel prices going astronomical… one car needs to go.. can’t wait for our new electric mini L3.. :) many thanks

Did you speak to anyone at the dealership about the lack of an i-drive wheel - can you/they shed any light on the frankly mental decision to delete it?

Agreed, it looks hideous, has the wrong drivetrain configuration and don’t even start on 3-cylinder engines, but…..
it’s still a BMW, with the same build quality and the same interior experience, which matters more and more to a greater swathe of people nowadays.
As a BMW purist, I agree and I’m also not a fan, but it’s nice to see more people buying into what is a good brand and nice that BMW are doing well and reaching more people
