TECH TIP CAN BUS DIAGNOSTICS

- I just wanted to share a quick tip for anyone dealing with a CAN BUS problem. In the video I will explain how I used this technique to solve a problem on a 2012 Chrysler 300. Problems like this in the CAN BUS system will cause communication problems between different modules and may set communication DTC codes like U1000 or U0100 and many others. If you have already eliminated a short to ground and a short to power on the Controller Area Network system, then try using a labscope to lok at the waveform pattern.
Thank you for watching!

Thats the best description ive ever seen even chrysler training didnt cover that way
Chrysler is good for mounting critical components in the worst areas, like PCM's in wheel wells ect. and wonder why they have problems. Great find. Thanks for sharing.
As fellow mechanic but I am heavy and construction. For my knowledge of automotive, you seem very humble and proficient at checking everything. Most mechanics bad mechanics order parts as soon as the isolated the issue. A 2 dollar fix or less all day!
Seriously bro! I think you're a genius! I mean it from the bottom of my heart thank you so much for your videos! I worked on cars before computers and I am learning new things everyday!! THANK YOU FOR HELPING AN OLD DOG LEARN NEW TRICKS! GOD BLESS YOUR SHOP AND FAMILY BRO!! ♧♧
Agreed, he's brilliant.
🙌 teacher in all your videos you break things down thorough.
Great video. You were smart to provide both the diagnosis and successful repair. Thanks for sharing.
CANbus is essentially a balanced signal line, and the zero volt point is virtual ground, so that mirroring explanation is perfect, when either side does something
non symmetrical it indicates an imbalance, it's not the only way CANbus can fail, but it's still a great troubleshooting technique.
One of the reasons CANbus was adopted for vehicle data communication is because of the immunity to interference with cheap un screened signal lines, only possible
because of the balanced system they use. Any interference or noise with reference to ground is effectively self cancelling.
Thanks again for another great video.
Your explanation makes perfect sense regarding balanced signal lines, just like balanced audio cables that reject interference. Thank you.
This is exactly the same principle as that used with networking computers using ethernet cable. In computing it's referred to as UTP - unshielded twisted pair 😊
Nice diag, very insightful and great explanation of entire problem and solution, thank you .
Thank you!!!!! Enjoyed the completeness of this video!
Helpful Video.
Nice choice of music on the Extra bonus part.
Tool for the win!
Really a great 'down to the basics' of CAN and an easy guide to accessing it. Thanks you !!!
Great tip. I subscribed. Ive been getting alot of can network issues lately. This video helped.
Excellent Video!! I'm learning a lot of new stuff on you tube.
Hi, thanks for this bro. Just had this happen to me a year ago when I replaced my ATF on Subaru legacy Er HC on the dash and the dreaded Christmas tree, just left it overnight with battery removed and it hasn't acted up since. Just bought a scantool(the Ancel X6 and saw the diagnosis codes B0202 CAN-HS bus off, B0221, CAN-HS ECM no-receive data, B0222 CAN-HS TCM no-receive data) and researched them, I was wondering what caused it for a year, just arrived at the answer thanks to your video by putting 2&2 together. Keep it up bro.
Bro I am very happy because1st time you came on live I like it and thanks your buddy oZ mechanic love you bros
Thanks a lot cheif. It helped me understand what the CAN BUS network is.
Somehow, finally, I seem to be getting to a first base of understanding how these systems work. Thanks for starting at the beginning, advanced channels assume viewers already have fundamentals. I am particularly impressed you were able to find a bad wire! Lesser men would have replaced the end device, and then hunted further when the problem continued. With a bad connection, you might not see a problem until the vehicle was moving on a bumpy road.
Excellent video! Thanks for the refresher!
This guy knows his stuff.. Kindly like and sub. Show support.. This are the kinda people we should encouraged
im just learning canbus, you explained it very simple thanks
Dude. You would def be my go to guy. Great job slick
Świetna prezentacja 👍😎
Thank you for the video. Good job. I appreciate your videos. Have a good day.
Great video, not too many videos show the whole process from diagnosis to fix. I've got some sort of CAN errors and voltage comparison failure I'm trying to figure out and really appreciate this.
I watch this video and unfortunately I didn't get the information that I need to fix my truck but on the plus side another vehicle I am having issues with I was able to address the situation with this video so long story short I didn't find what I was looking for but you helped with a different problem thank you for that
Great help in my own research, thanks.
Excellent troubleshooting and informative!
Great video! Really showed how to effectively use my vantage pro.. thanks
Thanks, Very nice and informative video. This is also a well built car. That splice is very handy. I'm facing a similar problem on an AUDI. CAN wires there are all twisted together like my grandfather electrician was used to do. impossible to disconnect without scissors... what a pain. :)
Excelente diagnóstico buen trabajo, excellent diagnostic great job.
awesome video i love to see others using lab scopes
great video and explanation of CAN BUS comms
Good stuff , professional approach to the problem and fault finding & fix
Thank you!
Dr. Gunter Zooloff was almost a genius, however, you are a genius!
Thank you for sharing this video I really enjoyed it.
Your the man , same problem on my 2018
Nice job on explaining your diagnostic strategy
Thanx man for your schooling your a Monster👍
Awesome video, I bet the customer was happy as hell it was just a wire in this case and not the whole module😅
excellent video thank you. I have a tricky can bus car Im working right now. Im going to use this tomorrow.
Excellent video and troubleshooting!!
You earned a subscriber my friend for life 😅.. jeep Wrangler 2019 same problem ty my friend God bless
Thx u for the video ur feeding my brain dont stop
I like that you are using the same setup that I have Vantage pro and Maxisys scanner
nice video very informative thank you and keep them coming
An ecellent tip sir,thankyou.
Steve from the uk.
Thank you for making this video I love it,
EXCELLENT Information!!
Brilliant demo sir.thankyou.
Great video diagnosis, why would these idiots give a thumbs down. I liked that you followed up with the fix with visual. You just got a new subscribe.
Because they're idiots. You nailed it.
Excellent! You're a good tech!
Thank you!
Good information and explained well. I APPROVE THIS VIDEO 😁 Thank you.
Great class. Thank
Great video. My only suggestion is use the ground lead off your power probe and when you can keep the vantage pro but pick up a vantage ultra. Watching Can bus on a vantage ultra is great alot of detail. For fun I use my vantage ultra with my break box on my 2017 and drive around and watch data.
Thanks for the tips!
Great video !!! 💪🏼
That's a really cool video! Keep it up!
Excellent Video.
excellent video short concise and organized. easy to follow what you did and you didnt overload the audience with gobs of informantion not pertinent to this issue. spot on insertion of the pinout of the dlc and what you were going to measure. no wasted extraneous inof about the dlc. typos oh well
Thanks excellent lesson.
Great video really like the information but you can change the time base and you can change the trigger put it on single sweep and it might capture the glitch easier
Great video man
Cheers
Great video good information thanks for your time .
Fantastic, thank you.
Very good video. Thank you
Thank God my car is almost 50 years old 😊
Sweat by Tool playing in the background. Nice
Thank’s, good video!!!
Great job 👏👍
YOU WOULD NEED TO KNOW WHAT A GOOD WAVEFORM LOOKS LIKE TO BEGIN WITH FIRST OF ALL . THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND GOOD FIND . HOW ABOUT SOME MORE VIDEOS ?
thank you very much very nice video well explaining
Thank you for your good video!!!
Thank you!
Great post 👍🏽🏁🏁🏁
Great Job! Looking forward to more videos like this.
I got more on the way. Thank you for watching!
Thanks for nice video. I am getting no-comm to abs/esp module. I like to try what you did. Can I keep running the engine while pulling module by one?
It was informative video. Tnx a lot
Thank you for that.
Thank you sir that's very nice very helpful
Nice Job.
Gracias well explain !!!
Thanks man this video is awsome i learn alot, i was following diagrams on shop key, to understand a little more. Ur awsome do you a book to know more about car electronics?
You do a great job explaining all this, broke it down to laymen's terms easily understood. You have a new subscriber, i could learn from this channel. BTW, could a oscilloscope be used to test the can bus?... and does OBD2 port use those same two pins on all cars for testing the can bus?... I do assume it would.
Yes the Automotive Oscilloscope is used on all OBD 2 Cars and Trucks.
Pins 6 and 14 are Can High and Can Low. If Eric used a Break out Box, testing the CAN Network would be much easier for him.
Nice techtip thanks greeting from Holland
Great video!
Thank you
Nice work. Thanks
Thank you!
Useful, thanks
Fantastic find.... was there any codes that were related to the pscm?
Great video man
Thank you!
GREAT INFO
Nice find.
Great job
Excellent (from Scotland)
Thank you!
Good video , thanks .
Thanks!
Great Job
thank you Sr for this video it helped me a lot,but I have a question,do you know if it's a problem if I do the mistake of invert my meter wires?(vantage green n yellow)to the H n L,Can wires.thans in advance for your response.
Mice love those wheel well my sons Dodge Charger had a similar issue
When the bias voltage raises as shown in the glitch, you would want to verify the grounds of the module that's causing the failure. Nice video. A lower time base for detail can also be necessary in some diagnostics
Thanks for the tips! I really enjoy your channel btw
Yea John anello drives that hard on his talks bias goes high, verify grounds
Nice vid btw
We don't speak of the little yellow leprechaun 🤫😂
@@NewLevelAuto little yellow leprechaun 🤣😂🤣😂 gotta love the automotive community
Thank you God bless you
I have a NO BUS message on my 2016 Dodge charger pursuit will this procedure work to diagnose my problem as well or is it something totally different? traction control, ABS light triggered.. please help if you can
excellent videos
thank you so much
