Since I read a lot comments about it, I would remind to all the people who complain on the amount of tourists (in some ways rightly so), that these are the streets where there are the most people, i.e. each of the places you see here (Spanish steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon etc) are ALL reachable also from other streets (where less people walking). This without taking into account month (April/May and September/October are, with Christmas, the period with the most tourists in Rome) day and time of the walk (example: if instead of Saturday at 5-6 pm, you go there on Tuesday at 10 am, you're sure to find many fewer people). That said, it's normal to have many tourists in these "type" of cities, and since I remember (everywhere in the world) the sadness of people locked in their homes during the pandemic, I prefer crowds to loneliness, without forgetting that if you go to Rome, Paris etc, you know what you will have, otherwise instead of the city you can choose other place less crowded (you can go to the countryside, to mountains etc). Sorry for the long comment (and my bad English) but when I read these obviousness writing is inevitable. 🍺
I myself are at times a tourist but I do choose places that are not as famous or more countryside, towns, beautiful for resting and see really how people live, enjoying their hospitality. Some peoples vacations are so strenuous that when they go back home they need to really rest from their traveling!
@@olgaburgos7780 Because my English is not good (there is Google or the old maps) and it would still be complicated even if I spoke good English (I can't take 2 hours to write a comment). The only thing I suggest to tourists when they come to Rome (but it applies to any place in the world) is to relax and see ONLY what you can, according to the time you have (otherwise it becomes a job, not a pleasure). Also because if a person wanted to get to know Rome really, he/she/they would need months; why do you think you see those streets crowded? Because people visit the usual 6-7 places (depends on the time they have, 2-3 days usually). I long ago stopped traveling this way, I see less and enjoy what I can see, then when possible I come back, otherwise patience, I will see it in another life (for sure I stopped to running like crazy everywhere). So my only tip is: relax and enjoy the time you have ( no matter how little or how much). Ciao. 🍺

Crazy! In 1989 I went to school in Rome and never experienced such crowds. What a joy it was to visit Piazza Novona, the Vatican and many other places with no crowds. Nevertheless, Rome will always be the Eternal City and forever beautiful!

OMG no thank you. So glad I was able to visit during the pandemic with my daughter and granddaughter. Zero crowds, I’d go totally insane dealing with this. I will continue to enjoy southern Italy and the beautiful countryside there.
Because you all walk the same alleys, Roma is so big, has so much to offer, no need to walk where all unprepared tourist walk with their stupid tour guides. Sorry. People these days are so ignorant, and lazy to prepare their cultural experiences, just walk the line everyone does, why we all have other tastes, other feelings, other priorities...so sad.
This is why I visit Rome in the Spring before school lets out or in the Fall when kids are back in school. I like to visit a few of the small churches in sides streets that I know about where tourists don't know about, but from people who have traveled to Rome many times before. I've been to Rome, since 1982-9 times. The last time was for the canonization of JPII in April 2014.
The main reason I like watching old Italian movies, especially those set in Rome, is because you get to catch a glimpse of the city before it became the victim of mass budget tours and Airbnb flats. Still a beautiful city, but it’s like Disneyland out in the streets.
Italy will never become a dDisneyland to me. The architecture, and art is too authentic. Agreed. Mass budget and low budget overtourism has ruined the essence and charm of many cities and areas, that´s a fact. Same idea applies to Barcelona, Paris, Lisbon, Florence... you name it. They are theme parks.
I totally agree with what you say. I too watch a lot of old Italian films, both from the post-war period but also from the period 1932-1942. Rome before the war was definitely a fascinating city (obviously I'm not talking about the government)
@@RaulSelva Well we were there in November and the weather wasn't that great when we visited it but we got to the trevi at about 8:30-9:00 it helped as our apartment was at the top of the Spanish steps so it only took us 10 minutes to get there but If you want to have it to yourself I would go before 7:00
