Dude, I’ve been curling my hair wrong for YEARS! I thought you HAD to curl your hair everyday to get the look (I never did that because I didn’t want to damage my hair). I did what you said within 24hrs of washing my hair, after 3 other failed attempts at curling them like I’ve seen my whole life (I know…bad me) AND AFTER DOING WHAT YOU SAID IVE HAD THE HAIR OF MY DREAMS THAT HAS LASTED ME FOR 4 DAYS NOW! I was about to give up and accept that my hair just wasn’t style-able. I’m sharing with everyone I know who struggles like me. You’re the best! Thank you!
I spent a ton of money on t ³ curling irons. I have the one that curls upon itself and wands. No matter how long I keep the highest heat in my hair. The curls will not stay for more than a minute. My ISO wand I've had for ten plus years still works fantastic. The curls usually lasted day or two. Well I'm on a hair journey. I have took your advice and i've purchased some products that you have suggested For my fine oily highlighted hair.
Very helpful! Last month my hair was probably a little longer than my shoulders. I listened to about what kind of shampoo is best for our hair and finding a shampoo “soul mate”. My hair loves it, I started using a leave in conditioner and found my “leave in conditioner soulmate” it’s 10 miracle. I tried matrix and purolgy. This is what my hair likes. After one month my hair is under my armpit. I listened to him and use olaplex oil on my ends and didn’t use heat after my hair cut. I also picked up a deep in conditioner Eva NYC and it didn’t make my hair fall out!! I tried other ones and found my hair loved this one. Thank you! I can’t wait to see where my hair will be in 6-12 months!! My husbands aunt also suggested a silk pillow and I think that’s helped. My hair only grew to below my bra line and I feel my hair is finally healthy enough to grow longer. Please if you have any tips let me know thank you

Thanks to you having healthier hair with volume and getting the results I never could has been life changing. have MS so I don't have the strength to keep playing for hours, now things are faster, easier, and great results. Thank you for all your tips and secrets 😊
Hi Chris, thanks for this video! My question was should you use a moose in your hair before blow drying? My hairstylist always uses it and says it helps give the hair texture and allows the curls to hold longer.
I would def listen to your stylist but moose is a good styling product just make sure you use leave in conditioner and then use the moose when you want to style
I have long straight hair that I have never known how to style or treat. I shampoo, condition, use a leave in moisture and blow dry. I’m going to make an attempt to curl my hair for a formal event tomorrow and I’m so grateful for all of the recommendations you’ve made for what products to use in what order for the best results without damage. Thank you and wish me luck! 😊
Best way to use heat is a iron with 350/400 degree heat. Start curl from top. Use a tiny rod, use heat protectant and blast the curl with cold air right off the iron- while holding the curl in shape. It takes 1hour of cooling to keep the curl in the hair shaft.
I have had two terrible bridal trials from the same salon and it’s going to be nearly impossible to find a stylist now. So I’m doing my own hair. I usually do my own so I’m not worried about the curl technique BUT I am concerned about frizz and choosing the right products so the curls will last. I find that after a few hours my hair starts to get tangled and a little frizzy. How do I prevent that on my wedding day? Or what products would you choose for an all-down curls look on a wedding day?
I know I'm probably terribly late by now, but using hair oil after styling (as shown in the video) does wonders to reduce frizz and make hair smooth and shiny. Try it out sometime! Best regards and (probably) belated congratulations on your wedding 💖

Question: Can you provide suggestions for methods to protect your curled style while sleeping at night to avoid touch up next day? My hair is same length and texture as the model you showed. Thank you.
One he gave was a silk cap. They can be found on Amazon. Looks like a shower cap form. It’s in another video. It won’t work for me because my scalp sweats easily and then itches.
Hi Chris, thanks once again for your amazing videos! Two quick questions: - is it important that the iron has a clip? - how long do I leave the iron on per part? Thank you!!
Great questions. The iron doesn't need a clip at all. It just makes everything harder :) How long you leave the iron on a section of hair depends on how big the section is. bigger sections need more time. Personally I take small sections and keep it on the barrel for only 4 seconds to limit heat 👍
@@BlowoutProfessor So, when you leave it the barrel on four seconds and need to restyle that section, is it okay to go back and redo that section after it has cooled?
Hi Chris! Your videos have helped me so much! As far as the professional shampoo & conditioner you'd like us to buy, can I ask you what you think about the Kevin Murphy line of products vs the Davines line of products? I see these products in a lot of salons.
I'm not a big fan of Kevin Murphy. Their shampoos don't clean the hair very well. I like davines more than Kevin Murphy but it's still not one of my favorites. You can see my favorites here drive.google.com/file/d/17BOfEK5_KjY8s73InKbnZFC9s1KtELAR/view?usp=sharing
What curling iron would you suggest would be the best for short fine hair that doesn’t hold curl super well?? I’m obsessed with curls but can never seem to get them to hold!
Hey Emily! Definitely a small 3/4" iron. I recommend the Babyliss nano titanium irons because they're easy to use and last forever 👍 Just remember to do your curls WAY tighter than you want them to be later
Yup what he recommends or Sally’s has a great like of irons. 350 is enough heat I have to use 400 on the back of my hair tho. Just don’t leave it on the hair for longer then 5seconds
Chris. I absolutely love your videos. I am beginning my hair growth journey. I cant thank you enough for all of your knowledge and down to earth honesty. 2 questions. After i curl my hair on day one. Must i use a tiny bit of oil to go tgrough with my hands? I know 6 second hairspray when done. Right now i think I am too aggressive tryimg to get the 1990 ringlet look ro calm down and then curls dont hold. I am curling almost every day. Second question. If i sweat after working out is it a guarantee day for a wash or can i use dry shampoo. Thank you in advace for your answer.
He has a short video about gyms. In short, your cardio day is your wash day (because you sweat more) and then your separate weight-lifting day, you should sweat less, and that's the day for dry shampoo. For the curls, I'm learning that many of us need to put mousse or, as he says, heat protectant with hold (he recommends a product for that in this video) before you get into your curling. That will help the curls hold further. Then, as he says, let the curls drop naturally or separate them VERY gently. He also recommends in this video to NOT curl every day -- switch up your style and give your hair a break from the heat. If you're worried about losing your curl when adding oil, try scrunching the oil into your curls or just polishing the oil into the ends (rather than raking) after they've set. Raking the oil through is more for the thick-haired people who hold curl well, so if that's not you, be more gentle with the application and put more emphasis on his advice to SET the curl.
I’m African American with natural hair and my stylist is African American and she pretty much says the same thing and suggests the same products for heat styling black hair.
Do you have any alternatives for the Redken hot sets 22. Here they are all sold out. I want to give this a go, because I was always afraid to use heat. But I want to make sure I use a good protector! Thank you!
I have more thin hair. Ive been using the coconut heat protectant by silk elements and my curls wont hold at all because of how oily it is. Which one is better for me between Redken 22 and Redken 11? I dont want the hol# spray to make my hair crunchy.
I am the worst at using an iron, I have tried, and just can’t, I do my curls with a flat iron. They do not last very long though. I know it’s not the same, but what do you think of the BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium Prima Ionic Straightener PRIMA3100? Would that help the curls last longer? Or should I try the .75” for my curls to last longer?
If you really want to use a flat iron that's ok :) I wouldn't get the Prima though. unless you can get it for under $110. More than that and it's over priced. If you're willing to learn to use it the 3/4" iron would give longer lasting curls 👍
Second this question. I curl my bangs only, so at night will put the bangs up in using a crease free hair tie - but the next day the curls have dropped about 90%
There are several options. My fave is Pin curl the curls and cover in scarf or bonnet. Another option is to put curls in a loose high ponytail aka pineapple. You might even be able to put your hair in a bun or mini buns/Bantu knots to preserve the curls.
Redken recommends to be sure to mist the hair section by section as you curl. If you prefer less intense hold, also, try the Low Hold version of the 22.
Hey Ana-Maria! I have to confess I don't have any clients with a perm right now so I'm not on top of that. But the same principles of hair type and hydration apply. You can check my video for "Healthier hair in a week" to see the best products 👍
Do you have one on haircuts because I would really like to know do you trim wet or dry hair and how to take off those dead ends does it go in between your fingers and just take out the ones that pop up I'm sure you know what I'm talking about and can you do that three times a week or is that too much cutting
I absolutely love your videos. I would love to see shorter hair curl videos. Are the techniques different? I have shorter hair like slightly.above shoulders and I really struggle with the back. I always watch and get excited to try and then I chicken out and go straight🤣
Do I have to put the heat protectant on both sides of the hair before going in with the curling iron? You had mentioned in another video to this with a straightener but I’m not sure if the same applies with a curling iron.
That depends on what stage you’re adding the heat protectant. If you spray it on your hair after towel drying (so it’s still damp bit not soaking wet), run your fingers through your hair to help evenly coat the hair. If you wait until after drying then spray each side of the hair, cuz that’s honestly a game changer and I can’t believe I never though of that before. You can always do both to add extra protection for your hair. You can never have too much heat protectant!
Probably depends on your hair. I have fine frizzy hair with high density, so I use a little before dying and then after, right at the ends, when dry to seal in the moisture.
I have fine 2b/2c hair, and whenever I try to do any of the stereotypical bouncy 90s blowouts, they only last for 1-2 hrs max, even when I apply a light hairspray. My hairstylist says that it's expected and the fine hair can only hold the waves from curling iron or heating rollers. So I'm just wasting my time with the velcro rollers. What are your thoughts?
Love this guy - obviously honest and genuinely helpful. I have a question - is that redken product called something else in Europe? Like iron 11 or something?
Every hair tutorial tells me to use a heat protectant but I find that the heat protectant is burning my hair is it because I'm putting it on a little damp or should I wait for the heat protectant to dry all the way I've tried different spots and I feel like it's worse for my hair or do I use hairspray first and then curl my hair
I’m 43 and I have wavy hair to my lower back and I can never have curly hairstyles because I can spend 1 hour and with in 1 hour their all gone But with in 5 minutes listening to you I have been taught a few tips I never knew. The technique about wrapping the hair is absolutely at the top of my list. Thanks for this ❤
Flat irons put more stress on the hair because you really have to pull it through with tension to get a curl. So it does more damage than a curling iron or wand. But a flat iron will get the job done 👍
Depends what kind of iron do you have? Does it have 300-450 degrees? 350 is fine but I just use 420 and I count to 4 and then hold the curl in shape and blast it with cold air to lock in the shape.
For shorter hair I recommend elongating the hair on the curling iron. In other words wrapping the hair from all the way in the top of the iron to the bottom. That way the curls point down and don't poof outward 👍
Thanks Chris. Do you have a video of that technique for wrapping shorter hair? 🙏 My fine, barely-shoulder-length hair doesn’t twist on its own when I wrap it. Should I pretwist before wrapping? What iron temp & for how long? Thx
Another way to not deal with the clamp on your curling iron and to save money, unscrew and disassemble the spring and clamp by turning the curling iron into a curling wand
Aww darn. My favorite curl to do is the second one because I don’t burn my fingers 😂 that and the ends always turn out perfect unlike with the wand. What if you did those type of curls going top to bottom?
Do the curl the way he says to in the video and use the clamp to hold the hair in place. You can always leave the ends out then after you’ve released the hair from the clamp, just go over the ends using a quick pass, that way your ends won’t get damaged from the heat
"All you have to do is be able to hold an iron still, if you can hold the iron still you can do the best curl (...) its super easy" Me; burns ear, fingers, that damn curling iron clamp keeps getting in the way. The hair slips off 😂😂 yeah no i cant curl my hair ok

Redken recommends to be sure to mist the hair section by section as you curl. If you prefer less intense hold, also, try the Low Hold version of the 22.
Can I still do it on a straigthener? Thankyou
Is there a "clean" hairspray for fine hair that doesn't make it dirty?
What do you think about perms? How can I get the best out of my perm? What products should I switch to?
Thank a lot! Your videos are so valuable!
Hey Ana-Maria! I have to confess I don't have any clients with a perm right now so I'm not on top of that. But the same principles of hair type and hydration apply. You can check my video for "Healthier hair in a week" to see the best products 👍
Never let a stylist comb your curls out! No matter what they should never mess with the hair after the rollers are out. Then use curl products
Manes by Mell are the videos for you!
What about temperature of the iron and the wait hold time
Do I have to put the heat protectant on both sides of the hair before going in with the curling iron? You had mentioned in another video to this with a straightener but I’m not sure if the same applies with a curling iron.
That depends on what stage you’re adding the heat protectant. If you spray it on your hair after towel drying (so it’s still damp bit not soaking wet), run your fingers through your hair to help evenly coat the hair. If you wait until after drying then spray each side of the hair, cuz that’s honestly a game changer and I can’t believe I never though of that before. You can always do both to add extra protection for your hair. You can never have too much heat protectant!
Does the oil always go on dry ends or can it be used on wet hair?
How do you apply the heat protectant? All over on damp hair? Strand by strand as you go? In sections?
Redken says spray it by sections as you curl. Not all over at once.
Are these heat protectants similar to Color Wow’s Straightening Mist?
Love this educational video!
What is a reccomended curing iron?
I sleep with my hair in a loose ponytail to keep it from tangling. What can I do about the slight kink that’s left from the scrunchie without heat?
Can anyone recommend another hairspray similar to the redken 28? I can't find it in Canada.
Does adding color back into your lightened blonde do as much damage as the lightening ?
No
Does flat iron curls count? I curl with a flatiron.
Yes!
I’m 43 and I have wavy hair to my lower back and I can never have curly hairstyles because I can spend 1 hour and with in 1 hour their all gone
But with in 5 minutes listening to you I have been taught a few tips I never knew. The technique about wrapping the hair is absolutely at the top of my list. Thanks for this ❤
Do you have blow-dry and straightening videos?
The Kenra thermal styling spray is not available in the UK and the Redken is very hard to find. What alternative could you recommend please?
He might not know the market. I'd recommend looking for advice from a UK stylist that you're seeking a heat protectant with hold.
@@thoughtsandslayers3917 I found one. Schwarzkopf Osis+
I use a flat iron. Is that a bad idea ?
Flat irons put more stress on the hair because you really have to pull it through with tension to get a curl. So it does more damage than a curling iron or wand. But a flat iron will get the job done 👍
I wish the holding products were in aerosol rather than pump. Pump gets gloppy and is sometimes hit and miss on the section.
Thank you for another awesome video! I’ll be sure to try out all the techniques you mentioned
Hi Cris ; I did Brazilian blow our relax , my hair braking o lot ; what to go
Ask a salon
How to use this method bit to get curls a bit closer to the scalp?
What amount of time should we leave the curling iron on the hair once it’s wrapped?
Depends what kind of iron do you have? Does it have 300-450 degrees? 350 is fine but I just use 420 and I count to 4 and then hold the curl in shape and blast it with cold air to lock in the shape.
Attempting this tonight with the hot air brush first 🤞🤞
Do you prefer a curling iron or a wand? And which brand?
He mentions in a comment above that he prefers wands. Doesn't say which brand. honestly I've never seen a difference from brand to brand
Thank you this is very helpful!
do you recommend Remington hair straighteners?
I wouldn’t I would get one from Sally that has temperatures on it 350 is hot enough
Can you make a video for wavy hair style too pls
How should we sleep with our curls?
What about people with short hair.
Thx
What temperature is ideal for thick hair for curls that will last??
350-400
Thank you! 💞
Another way to not deal with the clamp on your curling iron and to save money, unscrew and disassemble the spring and clamp by turning the curling iron into a curling wand
Can I put hairspray on my hair before I put hot rollers to it
Heartless rollers yea if u want them crunchy. Lotta body works as well.
So the hair has to be dry when I use the curling iron?
Your hair should be dry before you use any heat tools besides the blow dryer. ❤
Please show us how to trim our own hair
Thank you thank you thank you
Thankyou
But what if you workout every day too? My hair gets wet and sweaty then my curls disappear.
Then after washing and it’s dry wrap it as a heartless curl really tight.
I CANT NOT FLAT WRAP🤯
Ooof I’m gonna try because it makes sense but after curling my hair for years like that it’s so hard haha
Amazing
I need a heat protectant without hold!!!!!
Osmo protectant has no hold
This was so helpful!
"All you have to do is be able to hold an iron still, if you can hold the iron still you can do the best curl (...) its super easy"
Me; burns ear, fingers, that damn curling iron clamp keeps getting in the way. The hair slips off 😂😂 yeah no i cant curl my hair ok
My curls last for years.
Straight for an hour or so. 😂
