Let me put this into perspective for you. Mortal Kombat is one of the biggest games ever when this movie came out. If you're watching the movie, you've played the game. You've heard of the secret fighter called Reptile who is hard as balls to unlock, and even harder to beat. This fight had ZERO media presence in the build-up to the movie's release. And then you hear the word "Reptile" in the announcer's voice and the green ninja stands up and your fucking brain explodes at how sick this is.
arcengal Oh yeah and unless you knew the trick, it was hard to fight Reptile with Liu Kang because all the guides said you had to hold block to do his fatality, which was a requirement. So, added novelty.
Oh I get it. I was in theaters on day one watching this. Then I went across the street to the arcade and kicked everyone's ass in MK2 (my personal favorite)

From what I've read this whole scene, as well as the Netherealm showdown scene between Cage and Scorpion where added post production after negative test screenings. But more importantly they were choreographed by Robin Shou (Liu Kang). Being they are by far the best fight sequences of the film I think its safe to say Robin was a MVP of the production.

Guilherme Braga I remember how back in 1993, I had to sneak into the Arcade to play Mortal Kombat. You had to be 16 years old to enter and I was too young. The next year, when I turned 16, they changed the age to 18! So I still had to sneak in XD. I also remember how the Chinese guys would beat everybody, all the time. They could beat the game with just one coin... I'm almost 37 now and I'm amazed at the progress video games made in 20 years. Makes me wonder how the video games will look in 2035.

+Jordan Chatman I'll tell you where Johnny Cage was. He saw Reptile kick his nigga Liu Kang through a wall and JC noped the fuck out of there. He didn't want any part of that ass whooping.
Reptile was, and still is, my all time favorite character in mortal kombat. He was complete badass in the movie, and I think this is the first time I ever actually was rooting for the bad guy in any movie I've seen.
If you think about it, this is the most faithful to the original game moment in the movie - reptile comes out of nowhere, is a palette swap of scorpion/sub-zero, has no original moves of his own, and is super op - everything is exactly like it was in mk1!
It's that moment when he gets a body of his own and decides to kick some vicinity ass. Plus, I jizzed a little when I heard the MK-2 "Reptile" name drop.
@@zeroarashiuchiha7699 You can get a flawless victory each round as long as you don't take damage in that round. In the round 3 timestamp, when Liu "won the match," Reptile hit him zero times, meaning he would get the Flawless+Fatality final screen.
Hugh Egg yes but I have to assume Josh is talking about reptile in the video games. Back when this movie was made you still played reptile as a ninja in the game. The last Mk I played (couple of years ago) he was a ridiculous looking "giant freakin lizard".
Hugh Egg in the first 3 MK games on Arcade and Sega and Super Nes, he was a Ninja, but when the MK got rebooted with deadly Alliance and Deception, Developers made him into a actual creature, and yes ur right he did, Somehow I can't remember he got fused with a dragon Egg, which is when he turned into, the Dragon King, which is the main boss in Deception. I Have to get the 3 PS2 MK's Right Now So Many Memories.
Kids today might not believe it but this movie was HUGE back in the day. If I had to compare it to a movie today its like the Avengers, or Batman or some shit. It was huge. I even remember everyone even bought the soundtrack on cassette because even the soundtrack was huge.

This fight always bugged me. Kang got drop kicked through a brick wall (eating a bunch of bricks on landing) and generally got the shite knocked out of him for most of the fight. One throw and Reptile was groggy and ready to keel over. I wish the energy bars were present there :P
Noobsaibot21 That is true, but considering they tried to make it reflect the first game where Reptile is an extremely fast glass cannon I think it works out.

As a young boy in early 2000 I played Mortal Kombat Gold and played as Reptile. My favorite character! In the game I remember fighting Liu Kang in a level. Reptile was faster and had a better style, but he ran out of juice burning his energy way too fast with his entry rush and had no juice left to see the fight through. Liu Kang had better cardio and endurance and managed to pull out a win by surviving the onslaught.
The funny thing is that its the voice of Shao Kahn from the 2nd game, so that kind of shows us that they were not thinking at all when they made this. XD
I mean if a fucking lizard creature gets absorbed into a statue and some voice comes out of nowhere and says its name and then that asshole front flips and kicks me in the chest and I bust through a wall......ill just play dead. I'll give him that fight.
That's all Liu Kang needed to do, you could see Reptile looking for him at the port of entrance to the building, it's when he saw Kang moved he went inside the building..lol
The most badass scene ever. Music builds up, hype builds up, MK announcer announces Reptile, Reptile gets up, gives no fuck, kicks Liu Kang through a wall, shows no mercy and goes after Liu Kang and fights to death. Very true to the game when discovering Reptile.
I still say this is the best Video Game movie ever made. I know it's an unwritten law that all video game movies must suck, but this one is not only faithful to the game it's based on, it has great sets, the actors give good performances, and the fights are really well done. Sadly, the sequel is probably the worst video game movie ever made.
i'd say its the best videogame movie BECAUSE its not too faithful of the game! it skipped violence completely, which is the main selling point of the games. it would have been ridiculous and like a comic if they had incorporated that. yet it manages to catch the vibe of the game. i love this movie so much!
The only downside to the original MK movie was the fight between Sonya & Kano. XD other than that i agree it IS the best videogame adaption ever made, well...that or maybe even Silent Hill. I also like the 'first' resident evil, even though it's hardly faithful.
Reason why I love this fight because it was very aggressive , fast and for Liu Kang was struggling ! They should have made all the fights just as aggressive and fast .
You know, it's funny. By Hong Kong action standards this scene's fight choreography isn't anything special, but with the camera movement, lighting, and music picking up that slack this still stands as one of my favorite fight scenes ever.
The only reason he was humanoid in the old games from MK1-MK3 was because he was a palette swap of Scorpion not to mention they used digitalized actors back then. From MK4 and so on that all changed and changed him how he is suppose to be. This is what makes Reptile unique and not look like a regular ninja. Same how Ermac is not the same how he used be back in MK3 games.
At some point the movie was made (Johnny vs scorpion and Liu Lang vs reptile fight scenes were not in the film yet) they shown the movie to some people and they said "not much fight scenes in the movie" sadly the fight choreograph left at that point... So Robin (Liu kang) supervised and choreograph those 2 fights and actually are the best of the film. PS: sorry for my English
For those who dont understand the context of this scene and the remaining plot : 1 - Liu and Johnny were supposed to rescue Sonya. 2- Shang Tsung wanted Sonya to be the finalist as he knows goro can win against her. If goro fails he can still defeat her himself 3 - he didnt expect Johnny Cage to challenge Goro and then kill him, throwing a wrench in his plans 4 - Reptile who was not part of the tournament was supposed to assasinate Liu Kang before reaching the tower but failed. Plus Kitana was helping them along the way since Reptile cant monitor her actions anymore. 5 - Shang Tsung summoned all the dead warriors to finish off Liu Kang but they failed. 6 - because Sonya rejected the challenge by Shang Tsung, He challenged Johnny Cage who defeated Goro (making him the champion) but had no choice but to fight Liu Kang as LK challenged him. He wanted to save face but got his ass kicked nonetheless. Shang Tsung is the ultimate coward Kombatant...
never more people no him by mk then liu kang why is he on the cover of the game and not liu ask any body when you hear "get over here" what do they think of first
Do Y'all remember in 1993 when the arcade game came out, you could never find an open MK machine? You would always have to wait for someone to get off the machine, it would never be unoccupied.
I could be wrong, but I think this was the first movie to unlock and announce a hidden character. This was my brother and I favorite movie, damn I love this movie.
MrAmmo30 Back in the days of Mortal Kombat 1 in it's arcade, Reptile was a secret character you could fight if you met certain conditions. These conditions were: Pit Stage, a shillouette flys over the moon in the background. If that happens, you must score a double flawless victory, and execute a fatality. The message 'YOU HAVE FOUND ME, NOW PROVE YOURSELF!!' would appear, and you'd fight Reptile. (Though his name would show up as Scorpion, and he'd use Scorpion's and Sub-Zero's movesets mixed together.)
Nope, pretty sure all Reptile fans thought he should've won. At least he got the best fight in the entire film, even better than the final fight in terms of raw action and technique
This was the best match-up in the entire movie... And came as a surprise... And I love how Reptile ain't even a poser; man's came out swinging full front-flip drop kick through wall, ain't even waited came in chest-face kick... It was ON SIGHT...
I remember when I first saw this in theaters thinking that I will never see a better intro to a fight.... And yeah, I haven't. A mutant lizard -accidentally- turns into a badass ninja (and has an omni-announcer say his name) who then shinobi-drop-kicks a guy through a brick wall with lightning going off in the background to accent every moment then and onward. It still sends chills up my spine.
Gungriffen Johnny Cage is an actor; he understands that there wouldn't be as much dramatic tension if the good guys teamed up on a bad guy, even if he was OP.
I don't care about what anyone says about MK movie . Choreography is better than pretty much any new movie today ,amazing techno music especially for the period and tons of memorable fights . Classic
They were!! I was 14 at the time in 1995 and when i tell you, the line alone for tickets for this movie looked like a concert line!!!! I had never been to a premiere like that!! I mean stretched around the corner is some places!!! And when he said REPTILE, everyone lost their minds!!

Fuck, this was so sick in the theaters in 1995. As soon was that “Reptile” was uttered, shit hit a whole new level. Everyone in my theatre went nuts during this scene
I love how Liu Kang starts as a regular man but as the fight gets more intense he starts showing that he is far more that just your average martial arts master plus the music was just awesome.

Who says "Reptile" at the beginning of the video is Steve Ritchie, the man who did the voice of Shao Kahn (the same voice that speaks for the games) in Mortal Kombat II, Mortal Kombat 3, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat Trilogy and mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks. When he says "Reptile", the producers took the voice of the MK II or UMK3, I believe it is UMK3.
This still remains as my all time favourite Mortal Kombat scene to this day. I mean, how good was the music when reptile ran towards Liu Kang to kick his ass 😁👍
The announcer saying "Reptile" as he jumps up and the music starts playing is still one of the most lit moments in movie history.

Vandal Savage I second this v.v
That's all Liu Kang needed to do, you could see Reptile looking for him at the port of entrance to the building, it's when he saw Kang moved he went inside the building..lol
The most badass scene ever. Music builds up, hype builds up, MK announcer announces Reptile, Reptile gets up, gives no fuck, kicks Liu Kang through a wall, shows no mercy and goes after Liu Kang and fights to death. Very true to the game when discovering Reptile.
You forgot the bicycle kick
Who doesn't have this track on their workout playlist?

That first kick and then those bricks that hit liu kang's face 😂😂😂
i never noticed the bricks hitting his face until now 😂
I still say this is the best Video Game movie ever made. I know it's an unwritten law that all video game movies must suck, but this one is not only faithful to the game it's based on, it has great sets, the actors give good performances, and the fights are really well done. Sadly, the sequel is probably the worst video game movie ever made.
From what I have seen of it, Yes, Yes it is.
the Sequel is still accurate. everything else was shit though.
(except for the Cyrax battle)
Street Fighter with Van Damme was the WORST video game movie ever made.
i'd say its the best videogame movie BECAUSE its not too faithful of the game! it skipped violence completely, which is the main selling point of the games. it would have been ridiculous and like a comic if they had incorporated that. yet it manages to catch the vibe of the game. i love this movie so much!
Reptile is a fucking beast. Best fight in the whole film IMO
If the voice over announced Reptile's name the least he coulda done was yell "Finish Him" before Liu Kang smashed him into the ground....Fatality
Barry Allen he left that part for the audience to say
You know, it's funny. By Hong Kong action standards this scene's fight choreography isn't anything special, but with the camera movement, lighting, and music picking up that slack this still stands as one of my favorite fight scenes ever.
This is what Reptile is supposed to look like in the games in my opinion not like an actual fucking Reptile!!
JohnnyCage316 that is what he looked like. reptile's real form is a reptile.
Actually, he always been a reptile he was never a human.
Yes i no he reptilian under the outfit but id like to see this look in the games wearin ninja suit and mask!!
JohnnyCage316 i love the old ninja style they had, even though they were just different colours they still looked awesome
Robin Shou, (Liu Kang) actually broke some his ribs in this fight.
And the actor playing Johhny Cage got a bruised kidney during the Scorpion fight.
At some point the movie was made (Johnny vs scorpion and Liu Lang vs reptile fight scenes were not in the film yet) they shown the movie to some people and they said "not much fight scenes in the movie" sadly the fight choreograph left at that point...
So Robin (Liu kang) supervised and choreograph those 2 fights and actually are the best of the film.

wont lie, when i first saw this as a kid and i heard the soundbyte of Shao Kahn sayin "Reptile" i just about lost my shit
Damn! Reptile came to life, didn’t monologue, didn’t ask any questions... just went straight to business.
For those who dont understand the context of this scene and the remaining plot :
1 - Liu and Johnny were supposed to rescue Sonya.
2- Shang Tsung wanted Sonya to be the finalist as he knows goro can win against her. If goro fails he can still defeat her himself
3 - he didnt expect Johnny Cage to challenge Goro and then kill him, throwing a wrench in his plans
4 - Reptile who was not part of the tournament was supposed to assasinate Liu Kang before reaching the tower but failed.
Best fight of the movie
hell no scorpion vs johnny cage that was a back in forth type of fight
5616steph I agree.
Meh, Scorpion's overrated.
never more people no him by mk then liu kang why is he on the cover of the game and not liu ask any body when you hear "get over here" what do they think of first
you trippin maybe not the 2nd one but the first MK movie was good as shit it was just like the game
without being biased, after watching the new MK movie, this is BY FAR the best version of reptile!
Still get hyped seeing this fight-i just the grunts and screams of liu always sold this battle for me
and reptiles hisses
Do Y'all remember in 1993 when the arcade game came out, you could never find an open MK machine? You would always have to wait for someone to get off the machine, it would never be unoccupied.
I could be wrong, but I think this was the first movie to unlock and announce a hidden character. This was my brother and I favorite movie, damn I love this movie.
What hidden character?
MrAmmo30 Back in the days of Mortal Kombat 1 in it's arcade, Reptile was a secret character you could fight if you met certain conditions. These conditions were: Pit Stage, a shillouette flys over the moon in the background. If that happens, you must score a double flawless victory, and execute a fatality. The message 'YOU HAVE FOUND ME, NOW PROVE YOURSELF!!' would appear, and you'd fight Reptile. (Though his name would show up as Scorpion, and he'd use Scorpion's and Sub-Zero's movesets mixed together.)
7coloredmagician
yeap, that's why they brought this back in MK9 as a achievement. :)
Thanks for the help Johnny Cage!
+Bre Fujimoto Right? That never made sense to me. Why didn't he help?
+Bre Fujimoto I've been wondering that since this movie first came out.He just disappeared and reappeared after the fight was over lol
He was a strong believer of fair fight.
he was a strong believer that Reptile would have kicked his ass.
hi
"You have found me!"
NOW PROVE YOUR WORTH!!!
Best fight scene in this movie. Love how Johnny Cage just chilled outside like “Nah, it’ll be fine.”
I think the badass music is what made this scene so popular
GAMER_4999 It was that combined with Reptile appearing out of nowhere and beating the ever-living shit out of Liu.
+GAMER_4999 Not to mention the popularity of the main theme
If I remember correct, the track was made by Traci Lords, ex porn star.
It's the fight and choreography
Am i the only one that wanted reptile to win
Nope, pretty sure all Reptile fans thought he should've won. At least he got the best fight in the entire film, even better than the final fight in terms of raw action and technique
Cris P. Bacon agreed bro, this is easily the best fight/scene in the whole movie
Machismo Reacts scorpion vs Johnny cage best fight
HES MY MAIN...
REPTILE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..............
he's may fav and only reason he lost is because of Liu Kang's Asian kicked in 1:52 LOL
It’s amazing this fight is better than most or all in the new movie.
The best fight out of the two movies IMO. Great song to go along with it too.
Probably the best original theme for a character in any movie ever... Love how the announcer says "Reptile"
This was the best match-up in the entire movie... And came as a surprise... And I love how Reptile ain't even a poser; man's came out swinging full front-flip drop kick through wall, ain't even waited came in chest-face kick... It was ON SIGHT...
0:19 best stylish jump ever
that is how I enter the club
The "Oh shit" look on Liu is priceless
LOL
+coutiya2007 W 😂
lmaaao my man!
Johnny Cage out there DJ’ing the music for the fight.
The fight scenes between Johnny vs Scorpion and Liu Kang vs Reptile were the most entertaining out of the whole movie
all that screaming, Lui Kang would have made a great real life Goku
too true
Hell yeah man!!!!
did u notice how much he kept powering up. poor reptile lol
Yes he to old now to be goku but its has been confirmed an real dragon ball z movie will come out in 2018 or 2019
MAJIN GHIDORAH We already got one. Still going through therapy after this.
Liu Kang: "Arghhh, ahhhh!! Hyahhhh!! Arghhh!!!" MAN, he's NOISY!!
goku style
Johnny Cage be like "Nope! I fought a monster and got sucked inside of a tree. It's your turn.''
WOW, Reptile fought awesome!
yep he did
best fight of the whole movie.
Best damn intro to a fight ever! "Reptile", somersault kick Liu Kang through a brick wall. Just amazing!
0:09 Lui Kang gets a faceful of bricks upon landing. I'm surprised it didn't knock him out or even leave a scratch. XD
Best FIGHT in both MOVIES combined
2024 and this is still the best MK movie and soundtrack
Ever wondered what the fuck Johnny cage was doing during this? This would have been a great 2v1 fight with reptile being OP.
This fight scene was added post-production and Cage's actor wasn't on set.
NOW I GOT AN ANSWER! lol
Gungriffen Johnny Cage is an actor; he understands that there wouldn't be as much dramatic tension if the good guys teamed up on a bad guy, even if he was OP.
Gungriffen he was DJing that soundtrack !
Abdullah Mumin
LOL 😂😂😂
0:19 I entered the disco club like this
hahahaha
And I left like that 0:05
:DDD
Hahahahaha best entry and best leaving ever
Copying my comment much?? Nice.
My dad took us to see this when I was 8, when he said reptile I went ape shit
They should make a new MK movie! :)
they are
look up Mortal Kombat Legacy.
You mean that web series that was great until they gave Sub Zero a Paintball Outfit and made Liu Kang a "Jin Kazama Emo Kid?"
Fuck no they shouldn't. If they did Michael Bay would fuck it up as much as he could like he does with every other movie he makes.
Maser209 Well they are making a new MK movie suppose to be out in 2015 i heard and its not michael bay doing it its Kevin Tancharoen directing.
That Bicycle Kick tho LOL
reptile - a driver the entire first part of the film . The coolest fight and excellent musical accompaniment.
Leavin' the club like 2:46
Lol what the heck? XD
Seriously logged in just to like this comment and respond hahaha
And entering the the club like 0:06
Bahahaha dope shit
Music is hype as fuck, even now I get pumped when I watch this. Best videogame movie ever.
This is my favorite MK soundtrack btw..
I always wondered what the hell Johnny was doing during this fight...
tryin to find sonya so he could get some of that special forces pussy
5616steph Yeah, right. More like fapping to the idea of getting SF pussy. Sonya wouldn't touch him with a 30ft pole, lol.
Seriously what the heck was Johnny Cage doing during all of this!?
waxing his carrot
***** That was in the sequel. This scene is still from the original.
There was a theory where Kitana held him up to let Liu fight Reptile.
He remembers what lui kang did with his bags.
He was actually fapping at Reptile the whole time.
Liu Kang did more fucking screaming than fighting in this segment.
Keith Cooke "Reptile" should have reprise his role on Mortal Kombat Conquest, he was and still is the very best Reptile... Ever... Period.
Yea right the dude in conquest was a much better martial artist
MDCKilla
If YOU BELIEVE THAT, MAGIC BEANS PLEASE?!
That was him in conquest
The_Lonely_Winner No, it wasn't. That was Jon Valera.
SlasherIncorporated Ill have to double check
I don't care about what anyone says about MK movie . Choreography is better than pretty much any new movie today ,amazing techno music especially for the period and tons of memorable fights . Classic
Absolutely. Love the fight choreography, and the soundtrack is so dope.
I love the “Reptile” announcement. Theatres had to be going “let’s gooooo”
They were!! I was 14 at the time in 1995 and when i tell you, the line alone for tickets for this movie looked like a concert line!!!! I had never been to a premiere like that!! I mean stretched around the corner is some places!!! And when he said REPTILE, everyone lost their minds!!
@@Riqsuav1 so lit man, I wasn’t even born yet, ah to be around to remember 90s and 80s. I’d kill to have lived in it. He’s definitely one of the favorites
@@beardineric6558 It was insane!! I went with 3 of my friends and the first showing was sold out!!! It was soooo many people!!! And the movie didnt disappoint!! When he did that bicycle kick, folks stood up and applauded 😄😁
I'm a young buck, so the ones who saw this in theater tell me: Did the audience go nuts when Liu Kang did the Bicycle Kick?
MrLinkDeity the whole fight was epic think is the best fight in any MK movie
Bro when I seen this with my dad and cousin and uncle we all flipped out when He did the bicycle kick
Lui Kang must have infinite HP.. because when it comes to hits Reptile kicked his ass.
when that dude said reptile that was chills
That "Reptile" introduction at the beginning threw so much hype at me that I dropped it all.
Just so you guys know, the song in this battle is "Control" by Traci Lords
Peja21000 thank you so much! I've been trying to find out what the song was called forever!
Joe Fabis Jr rvb its from red vs blue I think because it's my fav tv show and there is a song called forever in the scene were c.t dies she's my profile pic
Jaycheif 121 And, of course, people have begun to call it "Reptile's theme"
Peja21000 lol
the guy who says "reptile" should be the voice of honest trailers imo
Who says "Reptile" at the beginning of the video is Steve Ritchie, the man who did the voice of Shao Kahn (the same voice that speaks for the games) in Mortal Kombat II, Mortal Kombat 3, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat Trilogy and mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks. When he says "Reptile", the producers took the voice of the MK II or UMK3, I believe it is UMK3.
is this voice of Steve Rich
Here i am in 2024 watching this epic fight again and again still. So fucking epic lol!
This still remains as my all time favourite Mortal Kombat scene to this day. I mean, how good was the music when reptile ran towards Liu Kang to kick his ass 😁👍
Agreed!
