BYD's PHEV poses a great threat to legacy manufacturers. Theoretically, PHEV has almost no shortcomings.
Lagecy manufacturers don't have any products that can compete with PHEV.
Because BYD produces its own parts, legecy manufacturers are not confident that they can develop PHEV at a lower cost than BYD.
It seems that what legacy manufacturers can still do is to compete for the remaining orders for fuel vehicles, despite the shrinking cakes.

OK so we all buy EVs and install solar panels to charge them.
The government is planning to charge solar power export to the grid at ~1 cent in peak generation hours 10 am to 3 pm !! So if you do not want to pay them for your generated power you need a battery !. Or turn it off.
Now at your house you have a solar battery and an EV with a big battery, what are the insurance companies going to think about this? Massive premium increases or even unable to insure at all (too much risk)?. You could say it's a 1 in 100 year risk, but try insuring in a 1 in 100 year flood or cyclone area.

EVs are depreciating at least as fast as ICEs in North America.
Nobody buying a Porsche is thinking of resale in ten years. Most people grasp that cars are an expense.
China is known to have a free market. They allow unlimited competition. There's just way too many car brands and dealers.
I heard that only 1 Chinese car manufacturer is profitable. Many of the 200 brands will go broke, and a handful will survive. That's what happened in the USA in the early 1900's.
I don't believe this is all about EVs. I bet if the imported brands you mentioned had switched to all electric, they would still be shutting down and pulling out. There's just too many companies after too few customers. I bet there will be many EV manufacturers going bankrupt in China along with the dealers.

I don't think imports of EVs will be sizable in the US and Europe given we must mfg our own. The US has seen what happens when we give up mfg like 2000-2010 80k factories in the US were transferred elsewhere. Please describe situations correctly. Just watch other areas in the world and see the global push by our old friends. In the US and elsewhere you must address trade balance or become a wasteland. @@fullrulle77 I personally don’t think that will be the case because electric car, specifically battery and manufacturing technologies are developing very fast. It’s like a smartphone, after a year or two your phone is already dated. The difference is though, while new phones are getting more expensive, electric cars will be becoming cheaper, go farther, and charge faster. China is a perfect example of that. But, who knows.

Hi Sam, good video and blessings to you and your family. You are stating the facts as they are: the old legacy makers are doomed if they survive they will be much smaller companies than their former selves. Like jaguar, Lotus, and McLaren. They will no longer be mainstream makers unless the brand name is taken over by a Chinese or Korean brand. MG's name is now a viable brand in the UK with good vehicles, shame the corrupt politicians are slapping a huge tariff on them. As a comparison you can now buy a new small Vauxhall Corsa EV for £20k if you shop around, or you can buy a new MG 5 ESTATE with a 61 kw battery or the MG SUV EV For the same £20k! It's a buyers market. It's such a shame there are so many Muppets around spreading lies about EVs! You can see by their stupid comments they have never driven one! But I'm seeing more and more EVs on the road in the UK despite all this bile because people who can afford to buy a car are starting to do so the sums and realising the truth.

Do not be enamored by Chinese technical progress as it's not natural but propped up unnaturally by the government. Same with Norway, they force the population over on EVs because they subsidize them with 25% VAT exemption, making gasoline cars way more expensive. The truth is that second-hand gasoline and diesel cars have shot up in price as you can't even buy them new in dealerships. While used EVs just plummet in price as new battery technology makes them obsolete. Is this kind of economy and totalitarian system you want to live in with no choice of your own?

Tesla is actually more subsidized by the US government than BYD is by the Chinese government. China gave BYD $3.7B in subsidies. US gave Tesla $2.8B in subsidies plus $467M in federal loans and bailouts plus $9B in federal carbon credits. BYD sells more cars than Tesla does, so the discrepancy is even larger on a per car basis.
