Are you going to buy FF16 @PhilipHarts?
I adore your commentary about the visual storytelling. It's really something unique and as someone who at one point wanted to study to become a Director of Photography this FILLS ME WITH JOY! ❤️🔥 Plus your eye for references? Sublime. Oof. Brilliant!
Thank you so much Vincent!! I love speaking about art and I’m so happy to finally play the game! I can’t wait to hear more of your work in the German version!!
It's ok as long it's not goty, at least I enjoyed ff16 because it reminds me of game of thrones.
What I really dig about watching you play is that you have a knowledge of a bunch of the past games, and even one’s not in the series like vagrant story. I’m about half way done with the game, and the references to the past games are just all over the place. Off the top of my head there’s bits of 7, 12, 13, 15, 4 and 6.
It’s refreshing to see someone play the game just appreciating it for what it is, instead of what it’s not.
This game is an absolute masterclass and not just a great final fantasy game, but just a great game in general.
Hope your having fun with it!
Also 9, the Vivi scarecrows had me just standing and staring at them with a stupid smile on my face for like an hour
Clive is very mature for his age; which I’ve learned is code for, “You’ve experienced a lot of trauma as a child”.
A.K.A 'forced to grow up far too fast, to sacrifice your childhood''
This game has been awesome, and I'm loving watching other people experience it as well. Dunno why, but Murdoch's face when he yells for Clive is a scene that always impresses me with the animation.
If this game doesn't win game of the year than I'm not sure what other games can top this one.
ehhhh honestly there's ToTK simply because it's the Zelda IP and it's nintendo
@@BlackBladeSombra lets be real, ToTK is just breath of the wild 2.0 might be fun to play but, yeah, running on a shit hardware its almost like the game is already outdated on release
@@user-yi9qv4th5m That's what I mean. The game is fun but fundamentally just a better BoTW and not deserving of GOTY but I already know that it's going to have a big chance of winning simply because of the popularity of its IP and the amount of nintendo fans...
@@BlackBladeSombra we’ll see, but yeah, it will be nominated for sure, i do frel that totk is forgettable asf
@@user-xz4cw2hg9y i find the combat to be a good point un ff16, i think its fun and fluent, and you can pull off some cool combo’s all in a nice motion, the sidequests do be lacking, and it sadly has no real collectables so exploring towns feels useless, totk is holdback by outdated hardware tbf
Director of FF16 Hiroshi is known for his camera work, I think the team did a great job 👍.
Wow, I'm blown away by this react! I'm by no means a film buff and I know nothing about filmmaking but I do appreciate works of art and production. I'm really interested in how much effort goes behind the scenes in terms of lighting, cinematography, use of colours etc and the way you point them out is just so amazing! I love how they all subconsciously add to the story but at the same time are so deliberate and intentional. Just masterful attention to detail. Something else that I don't really see anyone talk about is foley/sound fx, I thought their attention to detail was just unreal. Every armour movement seems to be accounted for, every acoustics of the room well recreated. I'm only about 3 hours into the main game and I simply haven't seen this much love put into a game, and as a lifelong FF fan it just makes me so happy. Thanks for the gameplay!
Persona: "With the power of friendship, nothing can stop us!"
Xeno: "I'll help the girls realize their individuality by making them my sex slaves!"
FF: "I WILL FUCKING KILL YOU"
This is what I have been waiting for to see your perspective and point of view on just the demo. From the graphic fidelity to the set piece moments, scale and character expressions and gameplay. As a piece of art and production for just the demo alone, it is a true masterclass. Obviously, I can't speak on behalf of the entire game, but the demo's pacing, appropriate tonel shifts and theme was just immaculate. The way the intro scene came full circle at the end with the Ifrit and Phoenix fight. Just amazing. When has Final Fantasy ever reached such a quality in cinematography?
The full game is even better than the demo
I love the professional way you describe the scenes as a filmmaker, makes me realize more how much more effort they put in to the game.
Fascinating as always, Philip. I also appreciate the shout-out for 'Vagrant Story', a game I loved - now, that would be an awesome Remake!
I love the commentary. It really helps me appreciate things I that I would never have noticed. For example in the begging Ing of the game when they introduce Hugo, the camera trick to make him seem smaller until he is fully in the frame and you realize he is actually a giant haha. Keep it up! I can't wait to watch more of you playing.
The Sanbrequois dragoon you fight share voice actor with Estinien from FFXIV (Robert Vernon). A strategically placed cameo in the demo!
Also the traitor is played by the ff14 voice actor for Urianger. Lol
Wow! What amazing commentary. Defintely earned a new subscriber. The scene with Jill and Clive always hrings some tears. The music, the dialogue, the performances...its just so obvious how much she cares about him. Crying at the thought of his safe return.
This may be my favorite reaction/playthrough that I've seen yet of this game (and I've seen a lot)! You pick up all of those subtle cues and nonverbal storytelling that many other people miss and I LOVE IT! My favorite thing about this game is just how DEEP the storytelling is, between the dialogue, body language, music, cinematography, it's just an absolute masterpiece, just like your title says. I can't wait see the rest of your videos for more insights!
Also the silent reaction to that ending is the only appropriate reaction... truly one of the most raw moments I've ever witnessed in media. 😟
Ben Starr is exceptional, along with Logan as you mentioned!
Also i did a little happy dance when you name dropped Tolkien and Stormlight Archive, my two favorite pieces of fiction 😊
I've watched multiple people play the demo (from the 2nd person onwards I only watched my favorite cutscenes) and I'm in awe every time.
jill will be my favorite character i can already tell.
Jill and Torgal ^^
Jill must be protected.
I believe the dragoon fight is voiced by the same person that voices the dragoon in ffxiv
This was an amazing video bro, loved your commentary, you are the only one (besides me) that got the FF8 Balamb Garden reference in Jill and Clive's scene (Clive even posses as Squall).
Also, your GF (and I mean your girl, not a Guardian Force) was having a blast too. Keep up the good work!
This is the best opening to a game I've ever played. If this was a movie it would also rate among the best!
Great stuff Phil. 💪
Good to see ya two as always even if Alyia is off stream in spirit. Hahaha
May you two continue to be well. Look forward to your future analysis. ⚔️🛡️
Her laugh makes this video ahaha! Thank you!
39:00 YOU NAILED IT! I am not a big anime fan. havent been a huge FF fan at all throughout my life it always felt a bit childish even as a child and also I never owned a playstation was always pc and xbox. and the biggest reason it felt a bit cheesy and cringey to watch anime or play anime style games like FF is because the dialogue is so blunt and describes every little thing that happens. it puts so many visually represented emotions into words and its not natural. no one speaks like that. but in FF16 THEY FRIGGIN NAILED IT. all the dialogue is perfect it feels natural and the only thing anime about the show is Clives hairdo and the epic proportion of power shown through visuals. but everything else feels like almost like witcher 3 in FF form. its sooo fucking good man. I wish more anime did this. but they save money in animation by just using the voice actors to describe emotion which is very awkward and offputting. fuck this game is good
My kid and dog woke me up at 1am soooo I had to play it until 2:30 and now I gotta go to work. It just gets better and better. Now I got to think about playing this all day. Can’t wait to see your play through!
Your GF laugh is hilarious. Just pure joy. Great video by you.
You just hear her in the background dying laughing
All the film making commentaries about camera angles and stuff like that was greeaaat. Nice gameplay too, other than not even trying to avoid most of the "Eikon of Fire"s attacks during the big fight haha. Thankfully just taking them on is an option there since you can regain your health.
I’m so glad that finally someone knows that only the first 3 FF games were actually turn based.
Such a GREAT demo/opening to a game. Great video sir!
This was an absolute delight to watch man; the way you were able to break down the emotions and storytelling combined with your enthusiasm was fantastic!
As for this demo-this game goes harder in the first 2 hours than some AAA titles do in their entirety.
As someone who’s really only played FFXV and a splash of VII it’s interesting to see an FF veteran spot all the references. And this game vibes with me like no game has probably since Bloodborne.
Just a small detail, this game dont have cinematics, all the cutscenes are performed with in game engine in real time.
the background cackling is what really makes this vid, I'm not gonna lie
I knew some people were not so fond of ffxvi Shiva's design when she was first revealed, but seeing her in action now? Damn. She's COLD, in like a really good way.
Fun fact! The Knight of the Blinding Dawn is voiced by Estinien's VA from FFXIV!
Did you catch the significance or symbolism of Torgal and the butterfly at the gate?
There are a lot of small references to other FFs, like Type-0, 15, 14, 13 & 13-2, 10, 8 & 4. I catched references from those but there are probably more I didn't see.
Enjoyed your "cowards die first" callback to your first run through darksouls
YES!!!! you are an OG!
yesterday i had to go trough the pain of my parents watching behind me while ''the spicy cutscenes'' played, like i didnt even know that was gonna happen and didnt know if it was gonna get worse so i just risked it and kept watching bc i needed to know the lore
Just finished the game last night and I loved it.
The guy in the hooded in Cloak I think is Clive himself but from the future
Thank you.
A lot of people are saying game of the year, game is great, but none of them are saying these things after they beat the game. Maybe should beat the game first
I thought you played it at the FF16 meetup event Yoshi P and SE hosted?
I did but I actually played a much later part of the game!
SO GOOD
It’s so Great! Can’t wait to see your full reactions Dee!
I AM PERFECT 🗣🗣🗣🗣
Lolll your laugh is so infectious my love
What films have you made that makes this commentary worthwhile?
active time...lust
All good but please DODGE 😂
Almost GOTY, love the story of this game, even side quest are well writen. It condemns racism, promotes true love, friendship, chivalry will never be superfluous. Unfortunate there are a few minus points in hardware optimization
if we are counting hardware then zelda would never have gotten goty, 30 fps with shitty graphics on a dogshit "console"
when the next honkai video ??
I personally think that the game is a "masterpiece" but that's only because I am biased.
At least you weren't Biast.
@@Kraftigebubbeing biast can be a smashing good time 👀
Yeah…your reactions were guaranteed to be good for this 😅
Game is complete crap.
720 in Performance mode.
Anyone thinks this game looks good needs glasses.
The first FF game in almost 20 years not directed by Tetsuya Nomura turns out to be an absolute gem. Really activates the almonds, eh?
Nomura has never directed a mainline FF.
There are way better RPG releasing this year.
Oh right ! this isnt a rpg anymore
Which final fantasy games have you played? I’ve played and beaten every single one. This belongs in the legacy of amazing games, some of which have a more numbers based system than others, but all of which are RPGs for certain.
What even is an RPG anymore? And more importantly, who cares?
@@PhilipHartsI have played them all from 6 and up excluding 15
this is an action game with light rpg mechanics.
@@TahoeNevada the reason why u are confused about what's a rpg is there are no real RPGs anymore. They are a lightweight blend of different genres.
Jack of all trades master of none
Yes every AAA game with great graphics is automatically a masterpiece. Stick to filmmaking
This comment is too stupid to argue with.
What about the incredible writing, performances, cinematography, etc etc etc in FF16??? What are you trying to say, besides that you’re a buffoon?
If only Movies looked this good or had half the story...maybe then everyone wouldnt hate hollywood?
people get drawn too much into the gigantic boss fights, they practically abandoned 40% of what made FF an FF and besides Story, Boss fights and Gameplay the game really is lacking
Bro, what? You contradicted yourself.
Oof what a take
