They literally did everything right with this demo. Progress carries over, a chance to experience later game abilites, and it's very substantial in length.
And it's replayable, no timed access gimmicks.
Best part about that later part is it's not that much later and you can see how much combat expands in a relatively short amount of time.
I'm probably going to play it again. I made saves before all of the bosses in the main demo to practice styling on them to get the best rewards iny main playthrough lol
@@TheSkweeMan sadly I don't think the combat actually expands that much that quickly. I think that in the actual game when Clive takes something from Benedikta that is how he gains Garuda powers. I think it just gave you all of those as a taste without actually putting you that far into the game.

Well to what people have already said, Clive’s va, ben Starr is amazing but as he shared recently, during the making of the game he lost his father (who got him into final fantasy and gave him his first one) so he poured the loss and channeled it as a outlet for him and how in turn it allowed Clive to save him.

Can we all take a moment to appreciate how freaking good the voice-acting is? Clive's VA especially. When he sees Joshua get beaten up it geniuenly sounds like someone is watching a loved one being murdered in front of them. The rawness feels increidbly real and it gives me chills.
Also love how it's established immediatly that friendly fire & indiscriminate destruction is the norm when it comes to Eikons, like Phoenix vaporizing Joshua's guards and Titan casually stepping on his allies.
And the gameplay itself looks meaty, spectacular and incredibly fun.
Basically: Like Bloodborne was the reason why I got a PS4, Final Fantasy XVI is now my main reason to get a PS5.
Edit: Got a PS5 now. Played the demo. Absolutely incredible, GOTY material already.

Square went all out with the Voice Acting for this game. The German Dub is fantastic aswell with tons of well known voice actors.

According to an interview Clive's voice actor had with kinda funny, his father passed away when he was working on FFXVI, so he channeled his real-life emotions in his voice acting.
I like how Joshua as Phoenix starts off with amber eyes to show his loss of control, but when he realizes there should only be one Eikon of Fire, his eyes turned blue as lucidity came back fully. It does seem to confirm that Dominants can regain control even after losing it once in a full transformation.
Aw man what an amazing demo. The combat, the story, the characters, the voice acting, everything. Can’t wait for the full game.
Everything except the music imo. It’s good, but this is a $70 PS5 exclusive. It needs either a real orchestra recording or Soken needs to start using a soundbank that’s newer than 2003. I really don’t get how people are putting up with the absurdly low sound quality of his sampling software. My $200 Yamaha keyboard I got when I was 14 makes better cello sounds than what are in this game. That’s pathetic.

WELL...to get a White Chocobo you need Doman Plum × 16, Valfruit × 13, Cieldalaes Pineapple × 5. It is recommended to alternate your fruits when feeding to get the right chemistry in the body to change the feather color.

Turned my smol chocobo light blue after seeing someone with an orange one. Got me searching far and wide 2 months into the game how to do it and have never changed her perfect color since, even after 2 years later.
Tried for Jet Black on mine, wound up with Ink Blue....liked that better, so I just left it as is, lol.

The demo blew me away, it is indeed going to be a very long week 😂
God demos are so good. I get why so few studios do it - if the game isn't solid, they can be disastrous.
But if they're confident in their game, a 3-4 hour demo giving a huge taste of the game and leaving you wanting for more is just perfection.
The fact that you can save your demo progress and carry it over in the main game is also genius. There's nothing wasted here
Beyond it being very good, marketing wise is as you said. A proper demo is gonna get a lot of people to buy the game. I just wanted to keep playing as soon as the demo ended.
I find myself anticipating a game more when a real demo is released as rare as that is nowadays.
Like you said I see demos primarily as the studio having huge confidence in their game. The last 2 demos that stood out to me were Elden Ring and Street Fighter 6, both fantastic games.
So this demo is a good sign in my eyes, I haven't play a FF game seriously for a loooong time(I disliked 15 so 10 was the last one I really played I think I got 1 hour into 15) but this game is looking pretty great and I think I might need to give this one a shot.
The studios that have the confidence to show us what they have knowing how hard they've worked to deliver a good game should be industry standard. Capcom and Square are giving us full transparency on what we are getting and should be rewarded for it.

That alone is a huge change for the better - and the combat seems leagues above it as well. Hopefully the demo is representative of the whole game
It would be huge if a new mainline FF proved to be a really capable game. Squenix has been banking on remakes for a while, but they can't milk nostalgia forever - they need to prove that they can make new quality entries and bring even more fans into the series. It's always best to temper expectations, but I definitely like what I've seen so far a lot

I no longer prepurchase games as a matter of policy. After playing FFXVI demo, I set that policy aside and prepurchased FFXVI. This game seems to have many elements from the FFs that I loved the most, which were 11, 12, and 14. I like political themes, medieval and monster hunting. I like parrying like Sekiro. This game looks like it's going to be a Final Fantasy Grand Slam!
I'm surprised that the demo ended up being this good. It's also great that they let us carry over our progress so we don't have to do the prologue again when this game finally launches.
As someone who is playing FFXIV, that Dragoon fight was an amazing treat, I can't wait to hear some of the voices from that game and see if I can recognize them in this one.
One of the traitors that corners Elwin and Joshua was voiced by Timothy Watson. But hearing Robert Vernon play that Sanbreque dragoon was a great cameo.

The foreshadowing of the mum at 45:00 just shows the next level detail they have put into this game love it.
you actually see the supplies traitor who infiltrates at phoenix gate in the main area before you meet the branded guy. I wanted to kick his ass
2:18:12 We've also seen in trailers for a brief moment, two Ifrits fighting each other. So there's still a possibility that Clive was not the one that killed his brother. Plus we see Joshua speaking through the Phoenix when first seeing Ifrit as if he's seeing through Phoenix's eyes, but when Clive awakes from Tourgal's whining, the angle is watching Ifrit, not inside Ifrit. So I feel like it's YoshiP and the writing team doing a misdirection, making you think that Clive is the one responsible for Joshua's murder.
I got kinda emotional at the weirdest time. It was just as I entered the swamp area and that music was playing I was giddy with excitement, The sheer quality that this game shows makes me so happy as a long time fan. Balancing my time between this and SF6 is going to be challenging I'm addicted to playing Lily.
Final fantasy 7, 8, 9 and 10 are the strongest run of any video game franchise I've played, 7 and 10 are my favourites but I love them all. With 16 and the remake trilogy it feels like we're in the midst of another golden age of Final fantasy we are feasting.

I have played hundreds, if not a thousand demo my time. I even played Doom demo when it was called shareware. FF16 demo was hands down the most robust and amazing demo I have played. Formally, Half Life 2 demo sat on the top. But no longer. I'm just in awe.

@@WakeUp-d1k I have. I still remember the og Nioh beta with weapon durability, lol. Nioh 2 is still one of my fav games of all time. With that being said... FF16 demo absolutely destroys the living fuck out of the Nioh 1/2 betas. FF16, is, by far, the best demo I've ever played in my life. And like OP, I've played a plethora of demos from my decades of gaming.

just finished this demo 4 hours ago. I think having it be the entire prologue was definitely important for quashing fears that the game was going in a more action-adventure focused route as opposed to a story heavy RPG. I havent cared this much about an FF protag's personal arc as the way this game sets up Clive's revenge story, since maybe Tidus/Yuna in X, and I loved the implicit worldbuilding, like showing how people use magic for everyday tasks outside combat like with Benedikta and her cigarette

This is how a demo is supposed to be. A huge chunk of the game that leaves you craving more when it ends. This is a definite day one purchase for me.
Everything we've seen of this game is outstanding. From the concept, the narrative, world building down to music, character designs, dialogue and voice acting. I've never seen FF in such good shape in a LONG time (excluding FF14) and I am rooting for CBU3's huge success because I know this game is taking risks by going this direction. They have shown great confidence in the final product and the demo has never made a week feel so long. The last time I was excited for a FF game was FF13 and we know how that one turned out. I hope the reception of FF16 sends a message to the other teams on how the series has critically fallen behind. Not one to harp on about awards but imagine what a statement a FF game grabbing GOTY would make.

I really love this demo. Playing the Eikonic Challenge over and over in an attempt to get better at weaving in multiple abilities, combos, air stomps, etc is so much fun, and it looks absolutely beautiful. If they can’t optimize for a smooth vrr presentation in Frame Rate focused mode on release I’ll continue to play on Graphics focused mode. It’s smooth enough with the motion blur and is actually a consistent experience.
The demo version is 1.01 which is a year-old build and according to journalists, is two major updates behind the latest patch.
@@CLARENCErr yeah the latest patch we’ve seen in 1.03 at the state of play which looked to be running quite well in frame rate focused mode in a larger area with npcs and a small town. Seems things might be good on the gold patch they submitted on disc and the ps store. But at the same time, I can only judge what I personally can analyze.
I know this game calls it air stomp but my brain can’t help but call it jump cancel 😂 though it isn’t quite as good as dmc enemy step
I was playing the eikonic challenge over to get better, but then I decided to redo the story portion and save before all the bosses to get better with Clives base kit before getting 5 more cooldowns and 2 more gimmicks to think about.
I did manage to find out that if you have magic burst mastered then you have enough time to change eikons in between your melee attack and magic burst though which is sick. You can get in three different elements in one combo, and set up for the counter or attack you want on a specific eikon in the middle of a combo
@@fishsohorny the depth to the combat is about to be crazy. My ONLY gripe is not being able to remap the controls to how you want them. R1 to dodge feels wrong. I kept wanting to press L1 and idk why. Also I want R1 to be lock on like DMC
I was not hyped at all for FF16 i barely even watched videos because i wasn’t a fan of how action combat felt in Final Fantasy. But after trying the demo i was hyped! It actually feels good to play and the story and cutscenes are captivating from the start.
I can’t wait for next week!
The story hit me the hardest. Like I knew it was there but not like getting me heavily invested in everything related in 2 hours hard. There's so much I just want to know about this world now.

@@phil_zupra_b5880 See I had a feeling that the mom had a part to play in this but I didn't expect full blown "She was always in control no matter what". Considering how the dad has to play her rules with clive whenever shes around. Also I'm surprised no one is talking about this but I love how they show off the tattoo symbol on the cheek. It's subtle that it's there but if you think about it, it's perfect forshadowing on what clive's eventual fate is. I can't wait to learn what that symbol even means and what it implies to the world. Fuck man how do you make 2 hours of gameplay that heavily interesting on it's worldbuilding.
@@NrettG i know right? I really hate her! That symbol on the cheek is most likely a mark for slaves and some of them seem to be used in warfare. What i wanna know tho is why mother wasn’t all that surprised about Joshua’s death. Did she even love Joshua? I really wanna learn her motives.

@@phil_zupra_b5880 There's a moment in one of the trailers that shows adult clive looking at joshua it could be flashback and ptsd moment. as for the mark I noticed that a lot of the slaves had a better use at magic than the ones without. Maybe it's both a slave marking and a curse of spellcasting?
I have just beaten the demo a few minutes ago. The way it ended was so damn epic, and the gameplay is damn great. Looks like I'll purchase the game sooner than I thought I would! 😀

Love the aesthetics in this game and how they’re all still out their ff designs but grounded in being practical for actual armor so we end up seeing a lot of chainmail in sections needing to be flexible for movement and heavy plate armor on the areas around that and layered on top of leather and mail. Another detail I absolutely love is how the Dragoons instead of having mail as there light flexible layer that goes under plate they have scaled armored because of SanBreque’s obsessions with dragons.
You see that alot in FF14 armors too. The devs deffinetly know their shit when it comes to gear as they have made about a hundred gearset for ff14
I love practical armor and weapons in fantasy. It shows that historically accurate designs aren't the only kind that work, that's just what people came up with at that time.

A correction on the "FF XIII having active time lore" FFXIII only had a synopsis type lore and you couldn't pause the game and see it to clear your doubts as events unfolded its very diffrent from this because in XIII that would only be useful in subsequent playthroughs since you could only read them after the fact in XVI you ger the explanation on the spot making it easier to understand situations as they are happening

Active time lore needs a notification when something new pops up because it literally will not change until at the end of cutscenes sometimes.

I'm so happy to hear the game will have more reasons to keep playing after it's finished and that it includes NG+ stuff. When a game is this fun to just be in its incredibly fun to go through again with all of your abilities.
I'm so curious about the mystery behind Ifrit. In earlier trailers we see two Ifrits duking it out, and Ifrit's Eikon abilities have been noticeably absent, yet, again, if you look at earlier trailers, they show an Ifrit ability in the ability page. 'Wyke o' the Whisps' What are they hiding about ifrit! lol
Dude same, and the fact that Clive doesn't have full control of Ifrit and is only a spectator just leaves me so curious on what the legacy of the phoenix is and who that was before he summoned.
I'm guessing it's gonna have to do something with clive's identity. I mean he is already basically jon snow, so adding a plot point about how he was switched at birth/a bastard/something similar doesn't seem far off
@@arseniykorchevskiy1564 He is the firstborn son of the Archduke and Duchess, just like Joshua. But he did not become a dominant, so he has taken a "backseat" in terms of political power.
Also, there seems to be a misconception for some people about the events at the end of the demo. Clive did not kill Joshua. He was not even fighting him. He witnessed the other "Fire Dominant"(Ifrit), and could only watch helplessly as the two Dominants fought.
As we see in the Eikon challenge(at the end against Benedikta), it seems that Clive can siphon the power of Dominants, gaining part of their Eikon powers. It is like he is resonating with them or something, and it probably has some connection to the Mother Crystals and the Blight(and probably why he didnt become the Phoenix's Dominant). The game opening narration speaks of the Realm's reliance of the Mother Crystals and we are shown how people with innate magical powers are persecuted and branded, so my guess is Clive is somekind of anomaly that forces change and upheaval.
In the Eikon Challenge, the player is given various abilities to try out ahead of time, but I am guessing that in the real game, he wont have the Garuda abilities until after his encounter with Benedikta.
@@fendelphi Yeah, we get some interesting POV choices for the finale of the demo, like Clive is almost having some sort of out-of-body experience. And Torgal's barking brought him back to consciousness. Idk. It's very interesting.
@@_n8thagr8_63 No, I mean, it is literally a different person fighting Joshua. Clive has nothing to do with it. That is why they are searching for the other Fire Dominant(the one who killed Joshua, and that Benedikta somehow captured later on) in the Eikon Challenge segment.
This other Dominant is probably the person we saw shortly before Ifrit appeared.

That last fight reminds me of something straight out of Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm. Specifically the 2nd one with how cinematic it was with the QTE's and the dog swinging around her neck with that attack. Only thing really missing is the multiple health bars 😂

@@watersports1381 they were comparing the cinematography. And in that realm, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games have had notoriously incredible and beautiful cinematography during ultimates and big boss fight QTE sections.

Initially planned on picking the game up after maybe 2 months of waiting, but the demo swayed me into preordering. It was that good. More studios need to put out demos like this so we can determine whether or not we’ll genuinely enjoy it before we buy it.
Most do not have enough confidence in their games to make a demo as they would likely lose customers. Plus anymore most games need day one patches, so good luck getting the extra dev time to make a polished demo.

After preordering RE4R I just had to do the same with FFXVI. Sometimes you just need in your life those 100-ish final fantastic hours of joy.
I'd guess the game is closer to 40-50 hours, even with side quests
@@arseniykorchevskiy1564 they’ve said the main quest is 30+ I believe. Side quests will extend that, plus all of the replayability in the post game hard mode, the “vr missions” type stuff, etc.
Don't matter, once I beat it I'm diving straight into final fantasy mode to get the highest scores possible and doubling my playtime hours immediately lol. I'm sure others plan to do the same!
Im excited for the story narrative focus on this with the gameplay. I love the period/setting of this as well. I enjoyed the demo and look forward to the rest of the story.
This demo was SO FUN!! Next thursday can't get here any faster lol, I do have a question however, do you think there will be appearance changes? I bet they will be mild if we get some but like for outfits down the line? ofc we get different outfits between ages but i'm hoping we get some! If not then maybe some DLC gear and such!!

well as there is no costume tab in the menus... and armor slots are just weapon and accessories there will most likely be no appearance changing. honestly 15 was the only FF game that let you change looks.
if this was Tales series then yea, you'll probably be able to change outfits of your characters but alas, it's a FF game.

Not only he played some of the eikonic challenge previously, he was the host of the pre launch presentation which allowed him to further play part of the final version of the game.

You reading the lore about Clive's mom made me realize that he's probably secretly adopted. He's not sick like his brother (do to inbreeding) and Clive also has a Dominant which apparently is weird to have 2 in a family.
I think he looks too much like his father and mother to be adopted. I really think it's as simple as Clive being a disappointment in his mother's eyes. She was married into the family because her bloodline has a good track record for giving birth to the Phoenix. When her first son ended up being a "failure", that probably damaged Clive's mother's pride, so much so that she could never forgive the son that, at least in her eyes, tainted her honor

19:42 I think back to the days of FFXII, when they reported this fact. Looking at it now, let's all appreciate how much better that game had been if they leaned into Basch being the protagonist, as was originally intended. Would have been a much darker, grittier take in line with this. So glad to see Square mature the franchise with its older audiences.

FF games used to be all like this until the arrival of FFVI which was the first that began changing things up. And FFVII totally changed the game.

Damn, I played the demo about 4 times and I didn't know you could do a lot of this stuff. This game has a lot of depth to it and it's only the beginning of the game.

@valeckseimu3132 it's way more then that. It's how you combine all that stuff that gives it depth. Hell you can beat Devil May Cry just by spamming basic attacks, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have depth.
This demo was an another level. Final Fantasy at it's best.

FF games have been in a bad place in the last 15 years compared to how great they were. This one seems to be the one who will bring the serie back in people's mind.
Also they are doing a phenomenal job with the story and gameplay, so who cares about what inspired it as long as it works ?
Heat wave counter only really works well against projectile magic, and if you do it correctly you send out 5 waves.

Demo had me hyped! I can't wait! Hate the reviewers spoiling stuff for recieving an early copy though, had to avoid all that like the plague.
Honestly, if he is in fact ifrit and is the person he is looking for that could make for a good story, however, they have mentioned in some of the trailers about dark eikons which are basically like the corrupted version of the other one, so there could be 2 different ifrits and even if clive ends up being ifrit, it could be the dark version that actually attacked them and is who he is really looking for.
I love how the track during Joshua's segment is like a funeral march version of the rosarian anthem they were singing a few scenes back
The facial animations together with the voice acting are incredible. I think we've eclipsed that Final Fantasy feature film and it's GAMEPLAY, lol. What a time to be alive.
I've played the demo twice now & learn something new every time. Gonna do it once more before the game drops. This is my dream FF game and it's so close.

hyped to join you on another massive journey! (first time was 7R). i rarely do lets plays, but when it comes to timed exclusives i figure i might as well just lean into them so i dont get spoiled by some random screenshot down the line in the years i have to wait for the PC release.
This might be the first time my game of the year pick has been shaken so much. If this doesn't get GOtY, which will likely go to TOTK, this sure as hell should get the top for storytelling and music
The story here is giving off Game of Thrones vibe which i absolutely loving it hopefully they'll keep this vibe for the rest of the game. Too bad that there aren't many bloody & gore stuff which would've make this a absolute masterpiece.
You can also find the traitor with the wagons in the demo during the first prologue sequence, after training.
This demo was how you sell your product done right. The plot alone has me sold I couldn’t believe he did that to Joshua.
The demo completely changed my mind and erased all my doubts about this game. At first I wasn't hyped for this. But having tried the demo, made me so annoyed that i have to wait until the 22nd. I want to pulverize all those traitors as soon as possible. And I also want to reunite with Jill again. I want to explore more but since I was pressed for time, I didn't bother exploring in the demo. So I'll definitely make up for it in the full game. I'll restart from the beginning and take my time.
