I grew up using a spool of fishing line mounted on a stick and and all we needed was some worms, a snelled hook, and a bobber. Mind you, we were after perch and the odd walleye when we were young back in the mid 1970s.

Used to do the same for sunfish and such in the mid 60s. Then my parents bought my brother and I, a kids Zebco kit. Great fun. Haven't fished in over 35 years, but retired last fall and was thinking about getting a Zebco 33, a telescopic poll, and doing some pan fishing this summer.

@@Ratt1959 Fishing is a really great fun hobby, especially for anyone who is retired. You have to bring along a propane/butane stove and a cast iron frying pan and some hot dogs and baked beans (in case if you don't catch anything). Also take put all your fishing gear in a 5 gallon bucket that way you have something to sit on and also have something to put the fish in as well.
Fishing is much like a game of poker. Sometimes you have awesome luck and sometimes you just get skunked. However, you just make the best of your entire fishing day. Bring along a thermos of hot coffee and some snacks to help pass the time while you are waiting for a bite. That always helps. I'm 55 myself and grew up fishing in southern Saskatchewan. I'm in Alberta now and I still love getting out to the fishing pond for the day. Even if I don't catch anything, I still a nice outdoor meal on the portable cook stove.
It's not only about catching fish but about getting out and doing something really enjoyable that makes life really worth living.

@@happycat0411 Sounds like a great idea, I'll have to see what a fishing license costs here in Michigan. Happy fishing...
