I,m in tears every time I hear this song, these guys made the 1960s so wonderful in the rock world and for 60s kids who could identify with life back then, How I miss this !!!!!
Kind of sad seeing these dudes here in their prime having the time of their lives out in California. Fast forward to today and 3 of them are dead and the 1 remaining Monkee alive is still touring alone, trying to keep the music alive the best he can at 77 years old. I dont know, I just find it sad.
I always remember seeing this back on ITV in the early 1980s on Saturday or Sunday even though I wasn't a fan I still admit they were awesome. RIP Davy from your fellow countryman
Antenna TV aired a first-season episode with the original intro today (6-29-14). It's been ages since I saw the original intro on tv. The second episode they aired today, another from the first season, showed the season 2 intro.
Would that episode that showed the Season 1 opening be "Too Many Girls" which was the one with the Stage Mother trying to use Davy to help her daughter win a TV Talent Show by any chance? That's the one I saw the original opening for...
The nominees for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015 are The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Green Day, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Kraftwerk, The Marvelettes, N.W.A., Nine Inch Nails, Lou Reed, The Smiths, The Spinners, Sting, Stevie Ray Vaughan, War and Bill Withers. Two of the nominees, Chic and N.W.A., were also nominated last year and didn’t make the cut for induction this year.
I always thought it was weird that there were scenes from the second season in the opening. I guess when it was syndicated the only used the second season open. Why did they use both closing credits (the original and the "for Petes sake" close) ? I never saw it first run but I do remember it when it was in reruns in the early 70's
Is that the actual title of the season 2 closing theme? I know it was written by Peter Tork, but I just wonder is that the title of it. It seems it was featured in an episode but don't remember if it said the title of the song or not.
Kellogg's was their primary sponsor during the two seasons they were on NBC {"'THE MONKEES'!!! Brought to you by-----KELLOGG'S!"/"K-E-DOUBLE L.....O-DOUBLE GOOD......KELLOGG'S, 'BEST TO YOU'!!!!!!!!!!"}. Their cereals (and "Pop-Tarts") were seen in various corners of the closing credits during the original network telecasts.
That's when Applejack's used to be the bomb baby: now that tastes like cardboard with milk on them, that's if they still sell them, I hope they put that poor cereal out it's misery.😪😢😔
I think the last time I saw the original opening credits of the Monkees" first season was when CBS aired these episodes on Saturday mornings a couple of years after the original prime-time run on NBC. In the decades since, they've used only season 2 intros for all episodes. That intro is fine except I sometimes find the part where Peter's name is flashed on-screen over the other Monkees kind of annoying.
The corporate version of the Beatles haha. Did they really air the closing credits with Poptarts and Cornflakes boxes like that?? Wtf, no wonder we're in this spot now. There *was* a time when A List celebs would only sponsor products in Japan/Europe. And product placement has become big business, with individual hit songs containing up to 2 dozen references to a brand name. And that's just in music, a movie can have 10x that, easily. Consume! Breed and consume!
I think they were good on their way but they never were the best..The Beatles are the best group in U.S and U.K. when the new generation of young people asked them for the Monkees? they don´t know them and say whose are they???? but if you asked thenm for the Beatles They say: aaaah yes John Lennon, Paul Mc Cartney they were the best group at 60´s
RIP 🪦 Mike, Peter, Davy 😢
This theme song has been Stuck in my brain for four and a half months
It,s been stuck in my head since 1966 !!!!!
RIP Mike Nesbitt 1942-2021, Peter Tork 1942-2019, and Davy Jones 1946-2012
You must be a big fan. Tell me, who's Mike Nesbitt?
THIS YEAR MARKS THE MONKEES 57th anniversary

This was when TV also came out with I Dream of Jeanie, Hogans Heros and Batman. The Monkees racked up two Emmy Awards. That was the 60's!

I missed a lot of school. I’m back in early 70s. I didn’t start school till 76. I didn’t go to daycare played outside and watch TV.

Love the cereal sponsors at the end. Wow they even worked the plugs like that back then huh.
This brought such a smile to my face.
Happy trails Mr Tork.
Rest in peace, Mike Nesmith.
you forgot Davy Jones and Peter Tork
I watched the show when it was in syndication...couldn't wait to watch it after school...in the 70s!!! Loved it so much
My sisters had crushes on all of them lol
I remember in 1975 syndication
Will now officially be in my head for the next four days.

7 people liked this so much they flipped their screen upside down to like it twice!
I like the opening song it is. my favorite song
Still going strong 50 years later!
1:17 why was that part of the song cut off
Very underrated tv show
i wish they were born in the 90's so we could have had them ALL in 2016
Instead we got one direction
I wish but it wouldn’t have worked. They wouldn’t have their 60s charm!
Wow, nice memories ¡ Congratulation.
Man i love the 1960's
The second and final season initially used "For Pete's Sake" as the closing theme!
I'm only watching this because I'm a kid and this was on my new Kids Party CD
Love them so much! Hard to believe this year is the 50th anniversary!!!

I like the other opening where They're dancing like the Rockets at the end, & Mike has the glasses.👍🏾
The rarely-aired first-season opening, along with the end credits from its Emmy Award-winning premiere episode, "The Royal Flush" (#4701).

I used to say Hey Hey Hey Were the Beatles. People Say Were Bugging Around. People say where trying to be Friendly. People say were bugging around.
I wonder why, back in the 80's when "The Monkeees" was being shown again on TV; most of "Season 1" was replaced with "Season 2" openers?
lennonzappa71 That has perplexed me as well.
