Please do Neil Armstrong and his interview after going to the MOON. Peter soandso (Hyatt ?) said he is deceptive. That's ok until there. But then he gives a reason for the deception: that he cannot speak about this mission, but that he still went to the MOON. imo i believe statement analysis can point out deception but can never for sure say why someone is deceptive. (Also take a look at the press conference of the three astronots after coming back from the moon. The body language and verbal language is... well, you are the experts here.)
      Thank you for considering.

Thank you, Chase for adding that even you could "fall" for him, and not see immediately he's a psychopath. Being a psychologist myself, I've struggled many years with "falling" for the lies and stories of a narcissist and pathological liar, being in an intimate relationship for a long time with them. Even though it ended many years ago, I'm still struggling with the idea of "how could I not have seen this, I'm even a psychologist". Your remark helps me. So thank you!

As a woman, I'm always on my guard, but one thing that usually disarms me is people who seem to be self-aware. This guy was intelligent, cunning, and *presented* as being aware of his flaws and failings. If I'd met someone like this in a social setting...hells, bells... I hate to think.

  • @frangi7484

Having studied Bundy I can add to the "kimberly Leach" issue - the murder Bundy said he "could not talk about." Bundy did days of interviews with homicide detectives Bob Keppel Ph. D and Hugh Aynesworth when he was in Florida State Pententiary. This was quite some time before he would be executed. Bundy repeated the same thing for this reason.....
In another book "The Riverman - Ted Bundy and I hunt for the Green River Killer" by Bob Keppel (thhe definitive book on serials by the way - a masterful tome) Bundy explained that certain kills are OK and certain kills are not OK. Each killer has their own "code" by which they operate (as foreign as such a code is to a non-serial killer, it exists). Gary Ridgeway (the Green River Killer) said much the same when confessing and being asked about his victims another victim was mentioned to him and Ridgeway said: "I take pride in my work, that one wasn't me." Bundy killed by a code, his own - but still - and that code allowed him to "justify in his own mind" the taking of that life. He could reason that they deserved it. The 12 year old Leach did not fit his code. He never spoke of it - not matter what was offered him. It also LOWERED him in status (hey Mark - I said "status - LOL) in prison and in the eyes of other serials. The taking of a 12 year old life is not respected among serials. Bundy saw himself as higher status than the Riverman (Ridgeway) because Ridgeway selected "easy" victims: prostitutes. Easy to get in the car and not likely to be missed very soon. Bundy's victims on the other hand were harder targets: college co-eds who would be reported missing very soon after abduction. Bundy believed his game was better than Ridgeways although he gave Ridgeway respect for the fact that "once he makes his move, no one really gets away from him" (although one did - and one for Bundy too). Anyhow, the 12 year old lowers his respect and that's why he has refused to detail that murder. It is not the most heinous and he did not have sex with that body, he did much worse to others, but the age is the reason. She is not a "good kill."
And the "other thing" beside the pornography contributing to his killing that Greg (I think it was Greg) wanted to ask what it was: it was the rejection by his higher status girlfriend/fiance when they began university. That was his event. And he killed in her image - killing her over and over again - that was "justified" to him. The little Leach girl was not a "good kill" and other prisoners are much the same. No matter how cold and psychopathic, if you make a bad kill - you generally can't talk about it.
That's what he meant. And he meant it. It's not this interview it's been the whole time - all the interviews, even when he started to give up information in an attempt to save himself (or at least give himself a stay of execution for some months) he refused the same way.
Fascinating read on Bundy by the Panel. Thoroughly enjoyed it just wanted to add some detail from someone who studied many serials and Bundy and Ridgeway in particular.

Bundy killed a girl when he was 14, long before his college girlfriend. I read that Kimberly Leach was sexually violated, especially considering how her body was found. No inmate wants fellow inmates to know they've hurt kids, they are the ones with the codes, not serial killers. In the grand scheme of things, in prison serial killers move down on the food chain.

I truly believe that porn can push people to commit these vile acts of violence and murder. A particular kind of people, such as narcissists and people with borderline personality disorder and antisocial personality disorder and others. It’s completely the perpetrators fault for giving in to those vile desires, but they can be fueled by an addiction to hardcore violent porn and slasher movies etc etc. And unfortunately today most kids have access to this garbage right in their hands, and even on a computer in their bedrooms or even the family computer sitting in the living room. Parents need to be more aware of this. Years ago they used to call it porn creep. That was where men watched so much porn that they became unable to perform sexually with their partners without having porn playing over her shoulder. So why wouldn’t we believe that watching hours of hardcore violent porn wouldn’t cause certain people to become sexually violent? I appreciate Dr. Dobson for trying to warn parents about this thing in their homes and in the hands of their children that could cause them to become another Ted Bundy. But these are four men who probably watch porn themselves so they don’t want to think about that. Or to have it taken away from them. Even as a Christian I don’t blame porn for “making” him do those vile things. But I truly believe it can push these people over the edge and cause them to want to go further than just passively watching. It desensitizes them. He is a monster and monsters do exist. And these monsters can be desensitized to their own monstrous thoughts and feelings and then become violent sexual murderous monsters. Yes Dr. Dobson has an agenda. But that agenda is noble and righteous, to keep violent sexual porn out of the hands of children. I want it done away with completely. It’s harmful to the people who consume it and to the often times young women who are in these movies and involved in sex work. These 4 men are downplaying the effects of violent sexual porn. My question is why?

I remember watching parts of the Bundy interview many years ago and feeling disturbed in my spirit over some of the things that were said. Your evaluation today was extremely helpful for me. Your comments along with now 30 years of experience in my own life, help me understand how much of a role Dr Dobson played in that interview. In other words, he was complicit. I consider myself a conservative Christian but in no way do I support what happened in this interview. At least 30 young women and girls were murdered by this man. I come away from the interview realizing that little or no remorse was shown for the gravity of the crimes committed and the devastation to the families. Thank you so much for your insights. They were extremely helpful.
Since the interview was done in 1989, I worked for more than 30 years in an environment with a narcissistic psychopath as a boss. I’ve learned so much about how destructive these types of people are. He isn’t a murderer but he damaged many many lives. The skills that you offer and insights certainly help me going forward.

Hes not wrong. Violent porn is extremely damaging to the psyche.
Also, not a good idea to dehumanize him or any psychopath. A psychopath is a diagnosis for a human being...not an animal. Dehumanizing a person based on their horrible personality or diagnosis or disgusting behavior negates the fact that human beings behave very badly. They frequently have ill intent, not all to this extreme but still. I believe there is very good psychology to support the dangers of calling humans beasts, animals or inhuman. Not for their sake, but for your mental health and perspective. Just a thought I hope you'll consider. This is in no way a defense of bundy or dobson.

I disagree about repentance needed for forgiveness. But I'm not speaking onntwemsnof religion. I think forgiveness can only come from thw pwraon/pwoplw who were hurt in some way. And you can forgive people who aren't necessarily sorry. It's about letting go of that negative energy. I personally speak as someone who has had endured a lot of trauma, abuse, and had C-PTSD... And it's not easy at all. And it doesn't mean having to forget what they didnto you and the pain. It's more not letting it eat at you from the inside. Just my take. Everyone is free to feel how they want. I also believe as far as any sort of afterlife and what happens beyond life here on earth depends on many factors including state of mind... some people litealy don't understand why or how what they did was wrong and I can't say thwy arw just as bad as people who know ans don't care. So I think of thinga like... Was malice involved? Empathy? Mental comprehension? But I don't believe anything is truly ever black and white. There are always shades of grey. Again, only my feelings and perspective

    • @MoonMagickMayhem
      @MoonMagickMayhem 2 роки тому

But for the record, I believe in some sort of "heaven" and "hell" (I am open-minded and admit I don't have the exact answers. But I 1000% think Ted Bundy is in no sort of "heaven". I spoke my last comment in general. Ted Bundy, as is spoken about here but the panel, that Ted Bundy is a very textbook version of psychopathy and everything that comes out of his mouth is studied and carefully used to manipulate the people around him. We are all capable of developing empathy to aomw extent (it comes more natural to some... I myself am an Empath) but even people who didn't come by it naturally can learn and develop true empathy. I believe Ted Bundy had no interest in empathy. He only cares about himself and how he wants to be perceived in the moment. I spoke about everything having grey areas and nothing being black and white? I stand by that, but Bundy is so dark a quick glance and it would look black to most. His grey areas are even fewer and more sparse than other killers and people we view as "evil" due to awful, hurtful, selfish behavior. Again, just what I perceive personally. I'm an empath and a psych nerd haha.

Agreed, it is not the drugs that kills the addict , it is the people that prey on you while your high. Example Amber Heard taking pictures of her harmless , very high and sleeping husband. She is evil for wanting to show her husband in unflattering light that is not love. Johnny was sick with addiction at that time. Evil is forever whether you watch porn , get high or drink those variables can be controlled. Just like IQ, sociopathy is certain and resilient to treatment or change. AC is right no substance could make me a moral person hurt someone. Myself maybe but never anyone else . I used to party socially I stopped because there is always someone looking to drug your drink and /or do you dirty in some way. However, I must admit violent pornography bothers me as a product. While I can't blame it Japan has a very accepted cultural pocket of violent video games, anime and pornography but very low crime rate. So sorry for the ramble , Iam all over the place. Ted used to answer a suicide hotline. Ted was a director at the Seattle Crime Prevention Advisory Commission and even wrote a rape prevention pamphlet. He worked for political campaigns while going to law school. Ted was ambitious.
Hannibal Lecter was loosely based off of Ted Bundy. Bundy offered the FBI to look at the case files for the Green River killer, Gary Ridgeway, whom Bundy called the 'River man'. Thomas Harris who wrote Silence of the Lambs used that offer to suppose and create Hannibal Lecter.
Interestingly enough as Ted's execution loomed ever closer Ted would offer to give detectives more information about body locations to buy more time. But there was one thing they asked him about that Ted denied, yet we know is true: Ted went back and had sex with the corpses. Same with Gary Ridgeway. When asked about some of the post mortem activity that we know happened, putting on make up, inserting things inside the corpse's body Ridgeway denied doing it. Strange.
Ted wasn't being entirely honest here, obviously. Ted was born a killer. When he was 5 yrs old he had an aunt visiting he and his mom. 5 yrs old!! When his aunt woke up after her first night there 5 yr old Ted saw an opportunity and got all the steak knives out of the silverware drawer and laid them all out around her sleeping body with the points pointed towards her body. I know what I was doing when I was 5 yrs old and it wasn't that. I was enjoying my parents' Beatles records. Not fantasizing about death. Nobody taught him that. The little fucker was born that way.

Bundy's warning about how pornography can lead some into depravity seems to be born out by recent evidence.
Some people, especially men, start to go down the rabbit hole of seeking out ever more extreme pornography, taboos become normal until some, a very small number, take the ultimate taboos of rape, violence and paedophilia..

Bundy’s repeating empty words of a prayer, without experiencing true repentance before God, is a mockery. He did not die a Christian. In this interview, Bundy showed no remorse for what he did and skirted around taking real responsibility for what he did. In Galatians 6:7, it says, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” God sees the true intent of our hearts no matter what our lips may flippantly repeat to appease or manipulate people.

They have stated before that people who study and practice behavioural analysis speak multiple languages for this reason.

I was an evangelical, actually in the leadership. We showed this very interview at church one Sunday night. Interestingly, while the rest of us were nodding and completely thrilled with the "confession" and Bundy's quoting of the party lines as it were (what you saw as a brilliant speech is part of the evangelical canon, even down to the very words and sentence structure, and was likely written by James Dobson), there were two men in the congregation who were frowned upon because they were adamant that Bundy was full of it. These men were both the sort that everyone in the community knew well and were respected - and neither suffered fools. It would be interesting to know what it was that made them able to see through his bs.

I was disappointed by the panel's expectations of Dr. Dobson--a Christian psychologist, not a criminal behavioralist. I remember this interview in real time--although I listened on the radio. I remember the build up for it as Dr. Dobson stating that he didn't know if he was genuine or not, but that they had decided to give him a chance to speak about the dangers of violent pornography. He never professed to know if Ted Bundy had changed or not. Mark seems under the mistaken impression that Dr. Dobson was a politician. During this time in history I doubt I'd ever heard of the study of behavior. I find the panel to be more judgmental of a large portion of the world's population with this one. Dr. Dobson was never the type of interviewer that the panel seemed to have expected. But people who knew the show would have been able to take it FWIW. But back then, more people thought for themselves and we were kind of opposed to group think. Ted Bundy was a monster and I hear Dr. Dobson say so myself. I was glad he did the interview and was glad to have heard it. I don't fault them for running it. Ted Bundy approached him to interview him. It looks like Dr. Dobson was used, but I never heard him justify a single word of Bundy's, either before or after this interview.

Agreed on this one. I was disappointed at the seemingly biased "agenda" the commenters made about Dobson. We lived in Florida at this time: Bundy dominated the news for months. He was an apex predator in everything he did. He had the death sentence looming and used his knowledge of his crimes and victims against the death sentence by dangling tantalizing tidbits of specific crimes for police to consider. All of a sudden he had police investigators from around the U.S., driven by desperate family members, coming to HIM to ask him about open cases in their files. He was again in charge of his world. I recall maybe 5 or 6 of these visits took place. The head of the Florida Corrections saw through Bundy’s ploy to delay his execution in perpetuity by dribbling out his ‘recollections’ of his crimes, while, at the same time, getting the rewards, his pleasure, of controlling others and reliving each murder. Someone with great wisdom and the power to decide to end Bundy’s cat-n-mouse game did so. No more conversations were permitted and his date with the devil was set and carried out. His 1 hour with Dobson - no recollection of that. It amazes me this was permitted. Someone higher on the food-chain than a Florida Corrections official ordered that be allowed. I tend to be opposed to the death penalty, but also recognize that sometimes there is no alternative- Ted Bundy was one of those.

One of the professors I had the privilege of learning from, asked after interviewing a patient in ward round in a psychiatric hospital: 'Please raise your hands, and be completely honest about this, those of you who agree with this patient that she has been wrongly admitted here and that there is nothing wrong with her". All the men raised their hands. The professor said this "One way of adding another diagnostic indicator as to whether a person is a narcissistic psychopath, is to note the reaction of the opposite sex. Charming male psychopaths tend to elicit great sympathy mostly from females, but men can fall for them too. Female charming psychopaths tend to elicit the same reaction mostly in men. This is what we witnessed today." It was a stark lesson as all the men fell for the patient completely - not a single female staff member had raised their hands.
Interestingly, I have watched this video several times years ago and I did not think then, neither do I think now, that he was blaming pornography. I think he elucidated the critical role pornography played in his ultimate behaviour. Not that it caused it but contributed to it. The research into sex addiction and violence addiction was in it's early stages in those years. He is talking exactly how addicts talk. Research also shows that addicts sometimes get more pleasure from the memory of previous events or from the anticipation of a planned event than from the event itself. The brain is flooded with dopamine at the trigger of just talking about 'when he started'. I think some of his behaviour at this point was the pleasure of his first event and his apparent refusal to actually reveal at which age he started his crimes and what his first crime was. He had a range of paraphilia addictions that was really trained from childhood by a violent abusive grandfather who raised him. That training ground, plus the pornography more or less sealed his fate.
It is fascinating that he does not ever reveal any of the information here from his childhood. It would be so easy to blame his mother, grandparents etc. He really knew the angle to take in this interview - that the effect of pornography was the big baddie and by agreeing with this, he would gain some admiration from the vast hordes of right wingers.
What is remarkable in the Bundy case which keeps so many people, including myself, is the incredible skill he possesses in playing a 'nice, intelligent man' .
The bit about morals and ethics and 'Gods law' is, completely for the seduction of this interviewer and presumably the satisfaction he was hoping to feel when thinking about how people will perceive him in watching this interview. His entire seductive behaviour throughout this interview was wanting to elicit empathy and even admiration from others for his 'how nice he REALLY is'.
When the interviewer said 'You feel this really deeply, don't you?" WHAT? Talk about making no bones about your agenda sir or about your own narcissism! So Bundy could wax professorially just before he is terminated.

Yes, I like that Scott clarified what "taking the Lord's name in vain" actually means. He's using it for vain/self-serving purposes. Like the pastor in a poor neighborhood who wears a Rolex, drives a Lexus, wears Armani suits, and always has a building fund, but no buildings ever gets built. The same type of individual who'd tell you that saying the Lord's name is "taking the Lord's name in vain", so you'd never suspect that he actually is "taking the Lord's name in vain" himself, because if you don't know what "it" actually means you can't identify "it". Another fun fact about psychopaths is that 1 of the top 5 careers psychopaths choose is the clergy. Ultimate authority, and their word is the word of god. Pornography is incredibly damaging to relationships, and individuals, and society as a whole. That is not a POLITICAL presumption, but what is actually been demonstrated repeatedly. I have worked with pornography addicts, and while I am not going to say every person who watches porn will become a serial killer, as that is not true, but it is equally not true to ignore the harm that pornography causes. I know too well the role pornography has played in multiple individuals who did chase that elusive high from fantasy to acting their fantasies out in reality. That is a very common pathway, and the pattern of escalation is real.

Like a chess move that throws off his progression. Dobson's gave him too much when saying "It's too painful?". He should not have given him that out. Pressed another way like the Behavior Panel would know to do, might have gotten Bundy to slip more and lose a little control.

I should also point out, as I have said in other places, I fully subscribe to the theory that Bundy arranged for his own execution, which answers the question of why Bundy might be more bored rather than desperate the day before his death. I also believe he thought his full confession would be published by his lawyer after his death to indirectly give answers to the families of his victims. He could never do the right thing directly, but he could finally arrange for his own execution to stop his murders, and he could give his lawyer a full confession and then sign a release for his lawyer to tell everything. Bundy underestimated his lawyer's commitment to lawyer-client priviledge, so the confession being published part never happened. At this point he has tied up all the loose ends and is just waiting to die. While he waits, he just needed one last fix of proving to himself that even in prison he can get someone to drop everything to fly across the country to interview him and to get that person to hang on his every word and believe everything he was saying.

@@mystique592 His lawyer believes he wanted to put an end to his murders, and the evidence does seem to be there. First, Ted Bundy asked his lawyer which states were the most likely to follow through on the death penalty, and his lawyer said Texas and Florida, so when Bundy escaped he went to Florida. I can only think of two reasons he would do that - he was bored and wanted to up the stakes of the game, or he wanted to be executed. Second, his lawyer says that what is not commonly known is that he had negotiated a plea agreement on behalf of Ted Bundy in every single state saying that Bundy would get life in prison rather than the death penalty if he just pled guilty. Bundy said he was accepting the deal and then suddenly pled innocent and defended himself. Sure, maybe his ego was so great that he genuinely thought he could get off, but I don't buy it. He wasn't an idiot, and he knew by that point that they had enough evidence to sink him. He even pretended to accept the deal. It could be ego, it could also once again be Bundy toying with everyone around him because he was bored, but it also could have been that he was manipulating the system to execute him.
Also, Bundy gave a very detailed confession to his lawyer. This makes sense since he was facing the death penalty. But what is unusual is that before he died Bundy signed a release allowing his lawyer to talk about anything without having to worry about breaking attorney-client priviledge. That could also be ego again or playing with people again, but it could also be Bundy's way of indirectly getting his confession to the families without having to publicly do the right thing and confess.
Finally, the biggest piece of evidence for this theory is a story that his lawyer told. After a particularly horrific confession, just before he left the lawyer says Bundy started crying, and the lawyer said he found it chillding and confusing because it seemed to be remorse, and the lawyer knew that Bundy as a psychopath wasn't supposed to be able to feel remorse. He had just confessed, so it wasn't crying pretending that he hadn't done the crimes. And it was only crying in front of his lawyer, so it wasn't for the benefit of the jury or the public. While Bundy was crying, he said to his lawyer, "I wish I could be a good person. I'm just not." It also sounds rather genuine because it isn't deflecting blame. It is taking 100% accountability for his actions. But it also shows an interesting side of Bundy that he never showed publicly.
So what do I believe Bundy's motive was? Personally, I believe that when sober there was a part of Bundy that actually was horrified by the crimes he was committing. I think that part of Bundy knew he had a serious addiction, and that he would never be able to use any amount of self control to stop his murders. I know it isn't comparable, but psychologically I would say it's like someone who is severely overweight who has a part of them that wants to lose weight, and they go through phases where they exercise and eat right, but eventually it gets too much for them, and in a moment of weakness they binge eat. Afterwards, the person may be disgusted by what they did and disappointed in themselves, but they also know that binge eating in that moment felt like a compulsion that they just couldn't control. Bundy also knew that there was a decent chance that no prison could hold him indefinitely because he had every minute of every day to contemplate escape plans, so there is always a chance that he would get out if he just got life in prison. I really believe that the part of Bundy that was human wanted to be executed to physically stop himself from committing any more murders since that was the only way to successfully do it. There might also have been a bit of the human side of Bundy that wanted his death to partially pay for his crimes as well. However, Bundy couldn't ever show his human side to the world. He didn't want anyone ever knowing that he had tried to do the right thing or had shown remorse. That was only for his lawyer because his lawyer had a unique ability to understand the true him. To the world, he must always be 100% monster, not 98% monster. He also needed to have perfect control and know that it wasn't society that executed him, it was Ted Bundy who arranged for his execution by escaping to a state that would for sure follow through and by throwing out his plea deal. He couldn't be seen to confessing to his crimes because that would be the right thing, but he still needed to arrange for his confession to get to the families, so he did it indirectly through confessing to his lawyer and then signing the lease.
Yes, I admit the only time he ever showed even a sliver of remorse was in that one moment in front of his lawyer, but that for me is part of what makes it feel like it is likely genuine. To my knowledge, he never cried in front of the jury or the public, and if he had been faking it I really think he would have faked it where it mattered most. But I also admit it is pure speculation on my part. It is speculation that for me makes sense out of what otherwise appears to be nonsense.

I watched this w/o sound...there is a difference.....I also agree with you about Dr. Dobson. I'm a born-again Christian 44 years, and I always had a weird feeling about him......so I am thankful you pointed those things out as well.....

I believe Dr. Dobson was using Bundy to make his point of how porn can deprave a mind...as proven, it can. Everyone is different as to what extent. I don't see the issue with Dobson using it to share the extreme damage to a (perhaps already ill) mind and raise his agenda at the same time. What's wrong with that?

During what Greg referred to as the creepiest segment, he "couldn't talk" about the feelings related to murdering that child, because the recall would trigger the gratification he felt from that particular murder. He was experiencing some kind of pleasure just at the mention of the killing of that child. He knew that would leak through if he talked about it.

I think he's using the interviewer to mirror his "story" back to him. He's grasping at straws to leave a "message" with his legacy. There's something of a seduction in his relating style. There was NOTHING NORMAL about the life he lived. For him to claim that is ludicrous. He can't name a single emotion. Where was the shame, horror or grief after his first murder? Then, he had to hide who he was from everyone after that. That's not normal, or "good".
