this was my first indycar race! exciting one, i had a blast both days. way different than whatever i was expecting even after watching for yrs. for sure coming back next year + thanks for signing my hat lol
Hey Conor, great start with Juncos, let's see you qualify that thing high again next time, maybe this is the new start you needed. Newgarden is a brilliant guy, I hope the respect of the grass roots to him is returning.
Josef is a fun guy too off the track. On the track, he's intense, but he races clean. It was ironic that Colton called Josef dirty then almost immediately blocks Lundquist and is penalized for it! One wonders about Colton's self-awareness.
as a first year indycar fan from europe its great seeing how different the racing is in USA (especially the ovals). Found ur podcast and listening to how drivers perceive these things is great. Hope i will one day go to a indy GP. Cheers from The Netherlands 🏁
Having a driver recap the race is so awesome Conor. My first 500 was 1957 and for 50 years you could not hear a driver say anything but “The Pennzoil guys were great ….” So now it’s a whole new ballgame. At 80 I’m still pounding around in a Swift DB6 FF out here in the far West.
Another fun episode. Love that you are authentically you and pull no punches. Keep up the great work! Excited for Portland - and the rest of the season!
I knew you would make good work with that car canapino showed us a couple times how fast that car CAN be. You put it to good work for this being one of the first full races you've got to do since may. Hell of a job brother! Keep it up!

Is it possible for someone to timestamp the different segments/topics on these shows? Works great for other podcasts and would really help for those who might not have 2 hrs to listen. That said, love the show. Keep up the great coverage!
We've never had a bad time watching racing in St. Louis whether we are there in person or watching on television. I haven't always enjoyed the results but it is always exciting at Gateway. That being said, I like night racing there the best. Two years ago, hiding under the bleachers due to the lightning risk was worth it because it delayed the race long enough for it to become a night race.
I know I'm an Indycar noob, but I had no idea you guys performed ballet moves in the car. Wonderful pirouette you've got there! One of the main things I know about driving is that if you go into the back of someone, it's your fault. Even if there was bugger all you could do about it, you still put yourself in that position, therefore you have the responsibility. Newgarden is innocent. I have occasionally seen motocross riders in the same position as Rollie Free, but it was always unintentional, very brief, and almost always the prelude to a big slam.
Welcome back to the grid CD, it just doesn't feel like IndyCar without you out there dude! Question--why is nobody addressing a huge issue from this race, which is: WHY DIDN'T SCOTTY MAC'S HYBRID PU WORK ON THE FINAL RESTART? Seems slightly important to the integrity of the series that we find out, as he himself said in his post-race interview it was the main reason why Joseph gapped him at the start so easily, and why he was powerless to fight back. SOMETHING looked weird about it, as P1 had not been able to get a gap from the green like that, and then hold it so easily, in any other restart in the race. What's the fully charged hybrid PU add, like 60-70 hp? Similar to push-to-pass, and we know all about THAT unfair advantage on restarts...the biggest scandal in racing since Schumacher booted Villeneuve off, right?😆 So why was this totally ignored? The NBC team, basically PR/spin agents/hypemasters for IndyCar are obviously not going to do any reporting on serious issues with a very important (that is, expensive) new piece of tech. And I'd say potentially costing someone a chance at a win is serious, no? So hopefully you guys doing the best pods will get the story.
Really enjoying this episode, currently around the hour+ mark, and I have a technical question in regard to the new hybrid system. How much drag (for lack of a better term) does the regen add? What I’m getting at is can you use the regen instead of the brake, especially in circumstances like Gateway where 1/2 is a different radius than 3/4? Obviously 1/2 was significantly tighter/slower, but theoretically, can you hold it wide open and initiate the regen? How much does that slow down the car?
@@ConorDaly22 I called a podium for either you or Romain on his UA-cam channel 3 days ago for Milwaukie! Hell of a race you ran, taking the engine change penalty and starting so far back! Passed a shit load of cars. Big congrats on taking 3rd and a podium. 💪
Finished in the top half. Got points for your team. Got more experience with the hybrid cars to be betterr prepared for Indy. Good weekend for you back in weekends. Maybe I will see at Nashville if they have anything to meet the drivers. Wonder if 3 races is enough experience on these cars to get you a podium then. BTW, is there going to be any merch now you are finishing the season. I did watch on Peacock which does a good job with less delay and USA or NBC.
We should have an autograph session at Nashville! As well as other events. No merch at the moment for the JHR deal. The team has some stuff available on their website but not CD specific
@@ConorDaly22 So now I have to decide whether to finally join Instagram or X. I've been resistant to cluttering up my life with still more content. *sigh*
He let all the way out on that restart. A pass through was needed. I watched it 50 times and the flames out of the pipe say he didn't maintain speed. I'm sure the telemetry said the same we just didn't get to see it. You made the best of the race after a "racing incident". Go get them.
I think that Power didn't get a penalty because there were no green flag laps between the Malukas incident and his restart crash. Could he be penalized for the next race? Maybe a grid penalty? I don't think it's fair that he gets out totally free. It's 100% his fault imo.
Shouldn't IndyCar have Josef's onboard? The IndyCar app has a live onboard showing speed.. Easy to prove he didn't dramatically adjust his speed. We don't need Penske data. And yes, David got pinched
Indycar does have the telemetry and reviewed it which is even more detailed than the video. he technically did not break the rules just took the restart zone to the limit.
@@ConorDaly22 I guess my point was more focused on the defense of Josef. IndyCar can easily set the record straight (with data) but that may cause more drama if IndyCar is defending the 2 car. Probably wouldn't be the best look

Honestly this is the first I’ve heard of it lol but the hybrid is barely a boost. The draft does more on restarts. P2P is way more of a boost.

No, it’s not that type of system on the ovals at least. You don’t feel it when you lift on ovals
Have a good run today. Best of luck
