Thank you Russell I appreciate your unselfish tips Fishing is always a challenge and it’s amazing how things change Great videos thanks a ton Have a safe season
Trim the dark line out season them and put a little brown sugar. I’ve served Lakers at a cookout and over 30ppl absolutely demolished it and said it was better than any salmon they had 🤷♂️ if u know what ur doing lake trout is excellent
There’s few laker kinds in Great Lakes, there’s an article somewhere, smaller more colorful ones are great table fare the fillets are carrot orange . Huge blob looking ones I believe are natives and pale meat have enormous fat content, I take couple for the tomato garden.
Great info. I’ve often thought about what would happen if I snag bottom. It would be great if you did a segment on what’s the best way to get out of a snagged downriver or some of the safety clips you can use so it breaks off before catastrophe.
@@randyradloff6660 Can you loosen the tightness of your cable reels so you can let your cable slide out if the ball gets snagged up? Just like setting your drag on your fishing reel.
Lk trout is odd game fish here in Michigan ...winter time highly respected 🎯 summer totally different some even make fun of them .. Thing with lk trout they dont hold up well in the freezer at all ... Fresh caught one of my favorite just pan fried or smoked .. How fast you running that setup ?
Hey, I tried this in Sheboygan and got weeds bouncing on bottom and weeds 3=10 ft of bottom. Even got weeds on 7 and 10 color spoons in 60 FOW. Are you checking these every 10 minutes? Or is there a depth to use the bells and not get weeds? Thanks!
I typically don't get weeds (cladophora) if I'm fishing south of Sheboygan in over 100' of water. North of town where there's rock/clay bottom and shallower than 100' we pick up weeds more often and we check more often. I usually don't drag the bottom but I'll lower my downrigger until it taps once, let the ball pull back, drop again and let it tap again. When the ball pulls back a second time it's usually pretty close to the bottom but not exactly dragging. If I see that it's really dragging I'll check for weeds, as well as every 20-30 minutes regardless just to make sure everything is good. Fishing that close to the bottom does require quite a bit more attention, but the payoff is worth it. As far as picking up weeds on your 7 or 10 color in 60 feet of water, either that is happening on an inside turn when your baits are dropping on that side, or you're picking up weeds that are suspended or floating (like grass or coontail, will look different than slimy clodophora/zebra mussel) that grew in the marsh and broke off and flowed into the lake. Hope this helps.
25$/lb smoked in store 😮. Tell about stinking trout to folks in Europe, they gorge themselves with carp and roach, pike is extraordinary treat and trout is in their dreams. We are spoiled brother but I’ll take that
He’s got one of the shortest (and I love the shot of the fish hitting the dipsy rod) and best intros in the game- and the music is the least annoying, actually works well with the video. I say keep it up Russ!

Have a safe season
My rigger doesn't fire on Huron unless I have at least 65ft of line off the release.
Lake Ontario....different game.
Lake trout are real good on a blackstone grill with a seasoning rub on them.

Lighten up your cable reels on the downrigger!!! Known people who have had the riggers ripped right off their boat because of not doing that!!!!
@@jayfogarty7544 , forgive me but I’m still a newbie. What do mean when you say lighten up the reels?

Do you run your fish hawk on that downrigger also?

What pound line do you recommend using for pulling cowbells? Use 17lb on dodgers/spin-n-glo’s on Lk. superior. PS. Great videos, keep em coming!

What is the best way to store the cow bells?
wrap them up like they come in the bag and put them in ziplock
Interesting,may have to try it
Great video russ,
For some its knowledge and great info...the rest can look other way..
Just ordered mine
Thank you
How far should the cowbells be behind the rigger ball?
10-20ft
How far back do you run the cowbell behind the rigger ball?
10 feet is enough
Speed?
Anywhere from 1.5-2.2 is ideal
Thanks
I love 1.8 on Ontario
What is a good speed to run these,I’m going to try it out this week
1.5-2.2 I like 1.8
