People need to try decoupled landing. I know it goes against your rating to have the gear down too soon but if you decouple with landing gear down you can get your inertia crosshair pointed at the center of the pad and then level out at a pretty high altitude and still hit the bullseye coming in blind while spacebraking on the way down so you never have to go 3rd person to break immersion. I've been doing some beautiful landings here lately decoupled. See you in the verse! -ImYourSpaceDad-
@@shootloadrepeat as he says, he wanted it to be cinematic-ish like what you usually see in a scifi movies, where the landing gear usually deployed veeery late just before it landed. because, again, it looks cool. same for taking off, usually u see them retracted right after the ship leave the ground, usually followed by a turn. because, again, it looks cool
At 11:45 there's just something so cinematic with this. Two XL hangars open. Into one flies a Vulture, the very first vehicle a player can get to use for salvage. And out of the other flies a Reclaimer, the very top of the food chain of salvage.
32:30 The Starlancer actually has VTOLs. On the Belly it has multiple small Thrusters (6 i belive) and if VTOL is off they are off aswell and vice versa
i deploy landing gear right as I approach opening to landing pad...just for the decrease in speed, and the speed limiter, which helps because I've been known to overcompensate from time to time lol In space I have worked on decoupled landings and thats kinda fun but nerve racking lol
Personally - I don't care about cinematic - but more concerned about realism. Probably from piloting planes myself, I have my check list I go through so I'm not overwhelmed trying to land. You'll see my lights on about 5 km out and gear down about 1 km out so I can concentrate on not playing ping pong while landing. Still, I do enjoy these episodes as they are entertaining.
One nasty bug on landing I experienced was with the throttle, as soon as I came close to touch down the ship surged forward at full speed, hitting reverse put it backwards at full speed too.. there was no setting inbetween only full throttle forward or back... words came out of my mouth that I never realised I knew! the only option was to turn off the engines, and drop to the pad.
This will occur in smaller ships with quick acceleration for sure. The bigger the ship the less often. I had to train my hand to quickly tap W, A, S, D not press especially in tight spots. I have also applied cruse control and what you explained happened to me more than once. 😂
My landing grades (pilot induced, not due to glitches): "Champaign" (lite and smooth landing gear action and that passenger not sure they have landed), "Beer" / variables; “Hazy”, “Billy”, “800” (rough landing gear action that may include mismatched landing gear contact), "Mezcal" (description not required, “you know it when you see it”), “Wormed” (simple: your ship explodes, typically during or after a "Mezcal" landing. I try to remember raising the gear before leaving the hanger (below air shield) or lowering the gear after entering the hanger (below air shield) and when landing, activating VTOL when transitioning from horizontal to vertical flight (over hanger opening) or vice-versa when launching.
Ever since I discovered your takeoff/landing videos, I always takeoff/land as cinematic as possible because of the off-chance that I am being recorded.
@adamu6941 make the ship you're landing and its movements look natural during a movie-like landing, kinda like how a helicopter is gentle when it touches down. also people like seeing use of VTOLS and theyre animations are life like so that helps too
@ Land in a way that would be visually pleasing to an observer. Not a coupled, jerky, gamey landing where you smash your ship into the walls of your hanger on the way down.
Yea love that the spaceports have really come alive. Stood at the Lorville ship demo hall and jsut watched the ships taking of and landing for a while its very crowded, wish i could have it as a live background wallpaper
4.0 Really stepped up Star Citizen for me the game actually feels alive now. I see people where ever I go now, Cities, Stations, outposts and even everywhere in between, there's a big light at the end of the tunnel now server meshing has arrived and I can't freaking wait to see how good everything feels by the end of the year.
An early implementation of dynamic clouds is already in the game! Pyro's planets have it, and it looks particularly gorgeous on Bloom. It's not the full crazy weather stuff shown off at CitCon (the clouds are clearly following simple patterns instead of being truly systems-driven), but it's a good stop-gap in the meantime. I don't know why they didn't add this to Stanton's planets.
I always do a smooth landing like in a Star Wars movie, but i also always feel annoyed how brutal and fast is to land or taking off. However, this is why i like my Cutlass, quickly useless (unfortunetely) but it feel great to look at it!
Really hoping the in atmo flight changes they've talked about will make the ships look less like humming birds. I think it's because the current hovering has 0 movement so it just doesn't convey that there are thrusters keeping this massive vehicle up in the air. Hopefully the thruster power factors in as well so you can't just hang upside down or nose straight down, it looks so weird.
Great video! I'm currently building a new pc to handle start citizen (coming from a 1080ti gen rig). I was checking out your pc specs: What monitor do you use? I'm looking to do a hosas setup like you a well, with the eye tracker
My whole mind set has changed since first coming across your videos. Now I have to land "pretty" at stations, bunkers wherever. Thank you for the motivation I guess haha
For me my gear is dropped as I pass into a hangar at a space station. (Why would it be out in space?) One planet it is dropped once my landing mark is fixed and my decent is adjusted to trajectory. Gearing down at this time will help with speed. (Uncoupled) To me this creates that cinematic experience on landing.
I have to disagree with how late you want people to put landing gear down. It doesn't feel or look realistic to me. Pilots put landing gear down pretty much as soon as they shift into landing mode by shifting their control surfaces. They don't want to be thinking about landing gear during the actual landing sequence. So, just personally, but I don't like the looks of a ship landing gear up entering a bay, I want that gear down already - whether IRL or in Babylon 5 or BSG, ships should enter landing areas ready to land.
Fully agree. Late landing gear could be a criteria for small ships or fighters, like a "hotshot" approach. But larger ships, especially haulers should deploy landing gear early. It feels more realistic and thus more cinematic - at least for me.
The Prospector is using the Aphorite livery. Best livery, if you ask me. :) (Edit) Also, twirly stuff is very much MISC aesthetics so the Starlancer definitely needs VTOL.
As a decoupled pilot I'm not comming back until they give us a toggle for the "gravity assist". It's awful to feel like your in space when the landing gear comes down.
You can toggle off "Gravity Compensation" in the settings. You can also disable it while in your ship by switching one of your MFDs to the configuration page and toggle it off in the Flight tab. You can also toggle off precision mode and various other settings like proximity assist as well.
@@HybridVAudio Oh wow it's finally in! When did they add it? Things that they should make a big deal about and don't lol. I'm really excited to come back and fly now.

Is it me or do they all look like they're using coupled mode? I always use uncoupled, harder but more realistic IMO... though maybe to taxi to the warehouse lifts it might make things a lot faster... I'll give it a try.

They have to fix some of the jank or there will be no support for anything. I’d like to know what the numbers are on people getting refunds within the 30 days because I see a lot of new players claiming that’s what they’ve done.
Personally I think your standard for when to put down landing gear is a little off. Real life aircraft ready their landing gear long before they get that close to the ground. It's a safety thing, and in SC, toggling your landing gear a little earlier means one less thing to worry about during your final approach and squeeze into the hangar. Even in most sci-fi media, I don't think ships wait until they are practically kissing the dirt to deploy gear. Imo 1 to 5 ship-lengths from ground or hangar entrance is more reasonable. But that's just my opinion.
I believe it's going to be a gold standard because of safety once we have a lot of players to have your landing gear deployed before hand as well but maybe closer to the door incase it does close early.

Left stick handles level movement and up/down right handles the pitch/yaw and rotation. Everything I need at my fingertips for just $350s all well worth the price to me. and I can still use them for other games where I need that kind of input!
lol what game are you playing ? OMG so many new players coming in to play SC ? no man , during invictus , citizen con and IAE SC mods were banning people in the youtube stream for just asking how do I get out of the bed , I'm holding Y , how do I open the HAB door ? , they are well aware of the state of the game and they're doing their best to quite or silence the people that want a game to play - I'm glad you can play the game I really am , but for 80% of the backers we can't play the game , there's no more players playing the game since 4.0 , it's they just merged the servers . I love how you say oh ya dieing to a bug isnt a big deal , you clearly have spent next to nothing on this " Project" I however have spent 30 grand and I'm not a happy camper , after seeing the houses bought , the cars purchased , the new manchester office half built and hearing the devs that have been canned or left talk about how they don't want to walk into an office that looks like a RSI polaris or phoenix to do the work on the same thing they live in 10-20 hrs a day . there's only a hand full of the original devs working there now . Read spectrum dude if you can catch people complaining before Nightrider deletes the posts - I hope that thing is getting paid more then the devs , if it wasn't for them , no one would be giving CIG money , just so you know server meshing has been around for decades , cloud tech has been around for decades , everything they say they have designed has been around in UE for decades . I do admire your optimism , you will be like me in 5-10 more years
Imagine the perceived entitlement to judge and rate people on a specific criteria without their awareness? Dropping gear late is not performed in any safety regulated airspace. Narcissism is high with this one.
I agree with Davies tbf and it's good to point out things we can always improve on as human beings. It is just a video game and thankfully we can't see people's names. Maybe with this video floating around proper SC procedure will be set in place eventually for when we have a lot more players.

I do admire your optimism , you will be like me in 5-10 more years
4.0 is unplayable. I stopped playing for a while.
Imagine the perceived entitlement to judge and rate people on a specific criteria without their awareness? Dropping gear late is not performed in any safety regulated airspace. Narcissism is high with this one.
Its not that deep
I agree with Davies tbf and it's good to point out things we can always improve on as human beings.
It is just a video game and thankfully we can't see people's names.
Maybe with this video floating around proper SC procedure will be set in place eventually for when we have a lot more players.
Star shit
A moment of self reflection 🪞
