You can still do solo bounty missions now that you can add a gladius or decent fighter in the hangar. Hangar Bay allows for FPS missions solo or crew. On top of hauling. You can do it all solo buddy.

If you're enough people you can hold an squadron of 5-6 Arrow fighters in the landing bay, facing each otrher in 2 rows left and right of the ship. Are short distance fighters but are a perfect complement to that capital ship.

I love the polaris and what it means for the game. I personally will probably not get to be in one too often but I'm still super happy it's here. This feels like a real step forward for what we all wanted from the game
Looking at how they did with the PDC systems. I really wish they could implement an early stage of AI blades to man those turrets because I mean we don't need an exact simulation of every AI crew. The AI just controls the turret and can fire those at command.
@@EvenLease44 Right now they are pretty balanced as the PDC is pretty easy to overwhelm with multiple targets at once. So the Polaris, my thought would be follow a torpedo with 4 S3 missiles from the pilot (since they are faster) so the PDC of the target is busy with those first.
I can't wait to collect a crew and roam the system in this beauty! Also seeing your channel is getting some major traction mate! Seeing it grow from 4K to 12K now is amazing! Keep up the good work mate!
Amazing review. I agree with everything you said, I think it was rushed out to get it done before the end of the year. It’s a shame, but it’s what the market will bear. I just hope the Polaris keeps getting updates and doesn’t become another ship that CIG puts on their backlog
It’s good that there is a door from the cargo area to the engineering. You can always feed expired cargo to the reactor. Or one of the curious dockers may suddenly show talent as a specialist in gravitational generators, or nuclear fusion. There also should be a passage to the janitor's room.
The polaris is a game changer. And despite the role it has as a group only ship. A good amount of people, like myself, will be using this as a flying base, with a couple of your best ships and just trekking it out in the verse, on your own terms
Great video and preview of the Polaris. You have a nice pace when showing us the ships. Awesome! The Polaris looks great and will be a nice addition to the game. For orgs doing bounty, mercenary or pirating this ship will be great. Will be cool to see it flying in the verse. But like you said and many have pointed out already, the interior looks a bit bland except for engine room. That looks good but everywhere else lacks the final last touches. I guess and you pointed it out too, when we get the captains quarters we might see a polish all around before release.
I love large spaces in ships, but not necessarily on bridge. The bridge is SOOO big for the few seats it has... It could be 3 times smaller, and still have enough space to solve for NPC collision problems (which is the reason corridors and spaces are so wide).
I think they might be adding less stuff and make them more "bland" because they anticipate the decoration mode to allow you to make them more personalized and interesting. The one they showed for base building.
You're right that stats change, but they (theoretically) change to match their role, and the Polaris is a fast attack ship. It literally lists two of those 6 engines as auxiliaries to boost its speed in its concept page, for hit & run torpedo attacks. So it should outrun the Starlancer, as that isn't remotely built for speed.
I wish the captains chair was the only one with access to self destruct. Wouldn't be much functionality. But I feel like blowing up your own ship should be deliberate and the captain should have to push the button. Pie in the sky idea but eventually when hacking comes in the same UI could be used for the captain to have a password that needs to be input first as well for self destruct.
I was really hoping this may be the first ship to usher in a shipboard magazine that could be fed with ammo crates, to restock its supplies of ballistic ammo and missiles. Both of them run dry way too fast for something that should be designed for long-term deployment. Which is difficult to manage if the ship cannot resupply itself from onboard storage.
I'd agree, the interior is the only real drawback of this ship, but for me, I'd take 2 points off the score for that. I just watched your Carrack review, and that ship has so much character and even if it has a smaller hangar, many unfinished features, less firepower and HP and shields, I'd pick it over the Polaris for everything except for combat or high risk cargo runs. And, if I wanted a capital ship experience, the Kraken would be by choice. Nothing IMO will beat Carrier gameplay in Star Citizen.
Can't wait for more ships like this to come out, things that can do a little of everything while leaning into one role. Odyssy and BMM, kind of the Carrack, fall into this category.
I think with the addition of weapon groups you could be able atleast on capital ships to have a weapons officer who picks targets and assigns a weapons group to persecute them, yeah you should still have to manually aim them and it would be a bit less accurate than manned turrets but I feel like having all turrets just AI would be bad for fairness but having every single gun independently manned all the time is a bit impractical and unrealistic
Great video, thanks. I feel like the less decorated interior is better since it's more suited for people to customise it themselves. I never liked that you buy a brand new reclaimer and the interior looks like it's been used for centuries
So there are 12 beds, 12 escape pods,5 people on the bridge, 5 man gun turrets and a torpedo turret. And we know now that the captain has a bed. And finally, in the armory 10 suit lockers and weapons rack for 10 people, plus two or three heavy weapons. Problem, if I count, it is a crew of twelve and a captain, and there are only 12 escape pods, and 10 emplacements for suit and hand weapons and size 1 or 2 weapons.

the pdc can track fighters now too and its really good, no lite or medium fighter can last against 7 pdc, but the pdc also make it harder to attack the idris now too, you have to get right up close and dumbfire or get something to confuse the the pdc.
It is an amazing looking ship, going to be great for small to medium-sized groups, and "fleet actions". I'm glad I didn't go for it, way too big for one person to manage. Will be fun to see how/if people fill and decorate the inside with stuff.
People keep saying "nobody is going to want to multicrew when they can just fly their own for more dps". Not everyone is trying to min max pvp every game lol. I want to be in a support role on a ship, thats the whole reason I play this game.
It's going to be really fun avoiding pirate polarises...polarisi? Patrolling/hunting in Pyro while I'm in my Zeus ES doing some stealthy roc mining or traveling in my StarLancer Max with cargo. Those going solo will need to be extra cautious and i love it.
I thought the medical bays had 'clean room' at the entrance, where you get sterilised, maybe they'll add them? I also want them to add being able to collect various rocks and plants and add them to the Polaris's garden...
I agree with your scores although I feel that the maneuverability is going to get tweaked after it comes out - imho, it handles far too well compared to other ships of similar size.
you can actually take this thing into bounties solo, the PDS turrets can do some work lol, and for bigger targets, just get close enough to arm a torp and fire away. they 1shot most ships in the game lol
I will note that the Polaris being faster than a Starlancer Max isn't necessarily that out of the realm of reasonability. Note, there's more than just size that factors into this kind of thing, there's thrust to mass ratio. Polaris clearly has a lot of mass, but clearly also has a LOT of thrust.
@EvenLease44 Yeah, and I imagine most combat ships should have greater thrust-mass ratios vs non combat ships of similar, or sometimes smaller size. I would say a fairer comparison of its speed and maneuvering would be vs a hammerhead, as the hammerhead is a larger ship than a starlancer max, but is also combat tuned. Crucially, it is also designed to screen fighters, so with its given role, it should have better speed and maneuvering than Polaris.
The Polaris was built after the Battle of Vega to have two purposes: strong torpedoes that the Vanduul showed as a vulnerability and built around powerful engines to strike fast. So - I agree that its speed will remain competitive to many ships smaller than it.
One of the Polaris designers in Reddit explained that the Torpedo that's pushed forward to the launch tubes, comes out the bottom of the loader, pushed to the side, then forward to the tube. Which is why you see them come in from the exterior wall side through the windows in the launch tube.
Sadly the version that was released as part of an event recently was bugged allowing a snub to take it out with a kamikaze run. Hopefully when it gets full release that will be fixed.
Of course, if you have an army or your military, you want at least 12 of those ships. to every big ship. It's connected support ships and everything else.I in an aircraft carrier has a hundred and thirty five ships to go with it when there's war time
you gotta remember the Carrick is not a military ship it is an explorer ship so an explorer ship would have a very good medical Bay because it will be far from home. now even though the Polaris is a Corvette it is still a military ship now true the medical Bay could be a little larger so yeah I agree with that however features wise no it shouldn't have the same features that the characters it's not an explorer ship
About the Design: bridge 7/10 (a bit empty looking towards the back) new captains quarters 6/10 (just average, not very cosy, weird use of space, failure in weapon rack placement next to the door) crew quarters 7/10 (just slightly above average, missed opportunity to make it more livable, it looks a bit too sterile) mess 7/10 (just above average, but by far not as nice as the carrack and starlancers) hangar 10/10 (whats there not to like?) Med Bay 3/10 (what did CIG do here?) Brigg 8/10 (looks like strait up from marvel, imagining loki imrpisoned there and bragging :D, the screens are a nice addition) Egnineering 10/10 (only criticism is that it is oversized, but considering gameplay that might be okay) Cargo 10/10 (don't see a problem with that) Missile area 10/10 (as long as it is working as intended, the design is nice and believable) Exterior 10/10 (nice RSI Design language) Overall 7.5/10, but for the price tag that is a bit lacking. The carrack and Idris do the military look better (functionality, but still feels like a temporary home). The Polaris looks to sterile and in some parts unfinished. CIG should continue to work on that and make the needed improvements. Maybe there is room to do own decoration now and down the road, but it should already be delivered in a carrack level quality imho.
@EvenLease44 that's ok I don't think any of us really know, but we all know what you're talking about either way. I certainly don't judge! I was actually thinking it would be cool if you threw in the claim time for the ships as part of the review. Would only take a few seconds to put it on screen and would be a helpful little piece of information. I bet the Polaris had a hefty claim time! Keep up with the awesome work it's really nice to see your channel continue to grow!
This is such massive ship! The design is beautiful 😍 but I think Even Lease you know what will happen if CIG sold this ship. You will start to hear the game Among-Us pop up if you have this ship. Since the ship Is so large there is so much space for a pirate to hide in it. I would never enter this ship if I found one floating in space alone. It would be kind of suspicious. 😅 Like in the movies they say never enter a large empty space ship because it's not empty. 🙈
Two things I don't like about this design are the captain's station has no function but is in the best location of the bridge. It would be better to put the pilot in the center and forward of the captain's chair and I would give the captain a display table that would give them quick access to a holo view of the battle area so they could make quick and relevant choices. The other issue is the limited view of the torpedo controls. This should not be a standard turret view, which is ridiculous. This should be a 360 view with lines and globes representing the time to target for the torpedos. Limiting their launch to a turret view is the dumbest design I've seen for capital size ordinance. I would put the torpedo gunner where the pilot is, the pilot in front of the captain, and give the captain a holo table for battle over view.
I want this thing so bad. But I know I'd have absolutely no use for it as a solo pilot. Maybe cargo? But as for combat or anything else, it's useless to me. What a beautiful ship, though

The nice thing about the only real negative being the interior is that it is something CIG can address relatively easy with a polish pass.

Point defense will eventually target light fighters, as well. CIG labels it as ‘disabled’ right now. It works in arena commander.

Thing I like about that terminal is you can F4 to get an external view.
Useful to see if the ship is in position for offloading or a drop.

You couldn’t use the cargo beam likely because either it had no power pips in, or the ship not in SCM mode is my guess

Agreed, these style ships will be tweaked for a long while till its just right.
The medical space definitely needs the Carrack treatment. Also the living and crew recreation spaces need to be brighter.

The main torpedo room needs a dedicated chair/operators station. It seems silly to fire size 10 torpedoes from such a small monitor.

I would say a fairer comparison of its speed and maneuvering would be vs a hammerhead, as the hammerhead is a larger ship than a starlancer max, but is also combat tuned.
Crucially, it is also designed to screen fighters, so with its given role, it should have better speed and maneuvering than Polaris.
I wouldnt expect the speed to be nerfed too hard, it has always been touted as the fastest of all capitals
The Polaris was built after the Battle of Vega to have two purposes: strong torpedoes that the Vanduul showed as a vulnerability and built around powerful engines to strike fast. So - I agree that its speed will remain competitive to many ships smaller than it.
One of the Polaris designers in Reddit explained that the Torpedo that's pushed forward to the launch tubes, comes out the bottom of the loader, pushed to the side, then forward to the tube. Which is why you see them come in from the exterior wall side through the windows in the launch tube.

Sadly the version that was released as part of an event recently was bugged allowing a snub to take it out with a kamikaze run. Hopefully when it gets full release that will be fixed.
I’m sure this is something that’ll get fixed, probably when engineering is out sadly.

you gotta remember the Carrick is not a military ship it is an explorer ship so an explorer ship would have a very good medical Bay because it will be far from home. now even though the Polaris is a Corvette it is still a military ship now true the medical Bay could be a little larger so yeah I agree with that however features wise no it shouldn't have the same features that the characters it's not an explorer ship

About the Design:
bridge 7/10 (a bit empty looking towards the back)
new captains quarters 6/10 (just average, not very cosy, weird use of space, failure in weapon rack placement next to the door)
crew quarters 7/10 (just slightly above average, missed opportunity to make it more livable, it looks a bit too sterile)
mess 7/10 (just above average, but by far not as nice as the carrack and starlancers)
hangar 10/10 (whats there not to like?)
Med Bay 3/10 (what did CIG do here?)
Brigg 8/10 (looks like strait up from marvel, imagining loki imrpisoned there and bragging :D, the screens are a nice addition)
Egnineering 10/10 (only criticism is that it is oversized, but considering gameplay that might be okay)
Cargo 10/10 (don't see a problem with that)
Missile area 10/10 (as long as it is working as intended, the design is nice and believable)
Exterior 10/10 (nice RSI Design language)
Overall 7.5/10, but for the price tag that is a bit lacking.
The carrack and Idris do the military look better (functionality, but still feels like a temporary home). The Polaris looks to sterile and in some parts unfinished. CIG should continue to work on that and make the needed improvements. Maybe there is room to do own decoration now and down the road, but it should already be delivered in a carrack level quality imho.
Concerning the cannons...... I have always pronounced it, "Omni-Sky". Am I way off or what? Love your content, sir!

I was actually thinking it would be cool if you threw in the claim time for the ships as part of the review. Would only take a few seconds to put it on screen and would be a helpful little piece of information. I bet the Polaris had a hefty claim time! This is such massive ship! The design is beautiful 😍 but I think Even Lease you know what will happen if CIG sold this ship. You will start to hear the game Among-Us pop up if you have this ship. Since the ship Is so large there is so much space for a pirate to hide in it. I would never enter this ship if I found one floating in space alone. It would be kind of suspicious. 😅 Like in the movies they say never enter a large empty space ship because it's not empty. 🙈

Two things I don't like about this design are the captain's station has no function but is in the best location of the bridge. It would be better to put the pilot in the center and forward of the captain's chair and I would give the captain a display table that would give them quick access to a holo view of the battle area so they could make quick and relevant choices.
The other issue is the limited view of the torpedo controls. This should not be a standard turret view, which is ridiculous. This should be a 360 view with lines and globes representing the time to target for the torpedos. Limiting their launch to a turret view is the dumbest design I've seen for capital size ordinance. I would put the torpedo gunner where the pilot is, the pilot in front of the captain, and give the captain a holo table for battle over view.
