Back in 2018 when they announce Reforged will be released in 2019, i have already suspected it is a rushed product. For all the thing they promised at that time, 2021 is a more realistic release day because let be honest RTS games are not trash that you can sh*t out like COD games (making some minor changes, add a story and call it a game). When they announced the 1 month delay, it was even more suspicious because i remember No Man's sky and all the bad games before with its release being delayed with 1 month or 2 months. One or 2 months delay is actually just shareholder talk because I know if a game development was to ever need extra time, it's because the dev team was pressure by higher up for shareholder's sake and Director's bonus well-being not because it was for the sake of gamers.
The best part about blizzard losing dota is that icefrog came to them first, with only two conditions. 1, icefrog had final say in balance changes and 2, that all heroes would be free. He was essentially laughed outta the building. This was in 2009.
And instead of taking that as a lesson and learning from it they just acted spiteful and continued to make the same mistakes. Modern day Activision-Blizzard is a joke.
Back when I was a kid, and played Frozen Throne and WoW, my dream was to one day become developer and work for Blizzard on these games. How all that changed... Years later, I finished university and become a game developer! Worked for few smaller companies first, learned a lot, progressed. You just explained how much Blizzard changed in that time... Few days ago I got contacted by a recruiter who wanted me to join their company which actually belongs to Activision Blizzard. My response was "if you want people to join you, don't tell them you belong to Activision Blizzard". It hurt me to say this, because it was a death of a dream for me... Truth is the truth, no matter how painful. This is "the pill" I had to swallow, both as a gamer, and game developer. Thank you nerdSlayer for this video, at least it gave some closure.

The false advertising is what really got me. "We are updating all the cinematics and making the game you loved 20 years ago a better experience, pre-order now!" and then not even delivering on the additional cinematics and forcing people with the old version to update to the new version? That seems shockingly close to illegality.
The store page still had false promises on it after the game was released. They couldn't be bothered to update the website. It stayed this way until they were being threatened with lawsuits. THEN they updated the store page. They also mass issued refunds to anyone that hit the button, even if you already completed the game. That's how they avoided the lawsuits.

It's still true today, but it was even more so back then: the pirates had the best versions, even if you owned the game. They performed better due to no DRM and loaded and played faster due to not connecting to servers and/or CDROM hacks steaming content from the hard drive instead.

There is a thing about russian voice acting in old WC3. It was very different from original english version, but it was unbelievably cool. Some years ago 2/3 of the rating was just technicalities. If your game looked good, sounded good and had no crippling problems, you would get a 60 - 70% rating. It's probably still similar today, because it basically ensures better ratings, which makes the game devs/publishers happy, which ensures favorable deals in the future.
My “favorite” detail of this debacle is that some features in the original were removed from that version and locked to Reforged only. One such feature? Shadows. Yes, shadows. They removed shadows and paywalled them behind buying the new one. It’s such a petty slap on the face for no reason- who the hell would buy the new version when they already owned the original just for *2 dimensional black blobs*?
To be fair it doesn't REALLY count as "paywalled" since everyone who had the original game got a free "Upgrade" to the new version. So everyone who had that feature before, didn't have to pay any money to get it back. Just play the shittier version of the game instead.
Oh yeah and they forced to stream the "reforged" game. This often resulted in crashes during official tournaments. I remember there was a game between same 2 people restarted 2-3 times until they reversed to old gfx. Truly a blizzard experience
Guys.... There is a positive note to the story. on numerous repositories over the internet there are Saves of the 1.31 ptr build. Its basically a classical warcraft3 that supports custom games, campaigns has original lan capabilities but its widescreen and has the latest pre reforged balance. And because it was a test build its technically legal to download and play it (provided you got original war3 keys to activate it). If you like War3 download it and share it.
Please if you're willing to spend the time give full instructions on how to do it, step by step guides as well as avoiding updating the game by accident or automatically etc. It would help me a lot cause i plan on reviving the original lawsuits be damned cause i am planning on something fantastic.

You're wrong about the Activision merger date. In 2008, Vivendi (who had owned Blizzard for over a decade) bought Activision and merged it with Vivendi games to create Activision Blizzard. But Vivendi still controlled it until 2013, when Kotick and others bought out Vivendi's shares in the company, removing them from ownership. 2013 is when Kotick fully took control. From 2008-2013 the ownership was the same (Vivendi), only the name changed.
Then Vivendi and Blizzard were already rotten to the core before Activision took hold. Never forget Diablo 3. Game balanced and build around a mandatory real money auction house for items, with a droptable carefully crafted to make it so you only got stuff you couldn't use to be forced to sell that on the auction house and buy stuff for your class instead. The real twist of the knife for me was the fact that they changed the voice acting. Including the Russian dub which is so iconic for the entire Russian-speaking internet community, being memes before memes. Blizzard cancelled Ghost because they were dumb. They thought that the game wouldn't become successful and they have to abandon it and make more updates for WoW.
I was gonna comment something like this. Blizzard was never the good guy. They may have started that way, but success poisoned them ultimately. They were decent at best, a long time ago. such a tragedy, WC3 is one of the most important games in gaming history. Not only was it a fantastic entry in a strong franchise, not only did it lay the foundations for WoW, but the custom campaign community was either the birth place or inspiration of many successful games and even entirely new genres. DOTA2 and League of Legends for example can trace their lineage directly from the WC3 battlenet community. Which puts WC3 among other gaming titans like Half Life 1-2, Quake, Doom, Unreal, exemplifying not only fantastic games for their time, but also the primordial soup that would give rise to entirely new games and genres that would go on to spawn their own noteworthy successes.
I cannot understand this! so fucking sad and frustrating. I can just pop in my old PS1 games, or nintendo games, or install my old discs of classic PC games. But WC3 has been razed to the ground. Such fucking selfish greed on the part of the execs, makes me sick!
How could they mess this up so badly? We've seen *so many* great RTS remasters and remakes over the past decade: Age of Empires & Mythology, StarCraft, Seven Kingdoms, even EA with Command & Conquer! Age of Empires even does what they planned with loads of balance changes and expansions to shake up the old game. The road map to a successful RTS remake is so well established at this point that they have no excuse. RIP WarCraft 3.
This is what actually hurts the most. Out of all, EA mangaes to create a very very good remaster of C&C. And they didnt even do much. They scaled up the graphics, remade the cinematics, added a couple comfort options in controls and thats it. Everything else stood the same and as far as i can tell, most people love it. And it was basically a success, because there have been multiple announcements that EA also want to remake further C&C-titles. If you have to advice Blizzards devs to take a note on EAs work, you know times have changed drastically!
@@Randleray I also remember the CnC remaster really started with a reddit post ! and including the community from day ONE ! and even getting a few hardcore fans envolved
Well not really. C&C remastered is quite a mess in multiplayer with terrible input lag, slowdowns, only 1vs1 ranked mode and changes in gameplay to please the newbies (which are not present anyway). Beside you need a very powerful gaming pc to play it in a semi decent manner for the new 4k graphic which is not the main point for an rts with such small units. It has been abandoned after less than one year by the developers... However unlike Warcraft3 we can still play the original games on C&C net with user made improvements, ranked games ans much mote. So basically the fan base checked the remastered, abandoned it after a while, got back to have fun with the old versions of the game :) like we are going since 1992 :)
What frustrates me the most is that there are zero consequences for those responsible for this. Those at the top got their bonuses, the devs are burned out and depressed by the bad scores and unfinished work, and the community managers were sacrificed to burden the backlash. And then nothing changes and we move on to the next broken game to get angry about.. it sucks
There are those of us who remember. I remember how much crap Blizzard pumped out over the years. I remember the Blitzchung controversy, I remember "Do you guys not have phones?", I remember Diablo Immortal, I remember OW1 getting canned for the sake of a game that was ultimately canceled, I remember the frat boy culture lawsuits, I remember the diversity algorithms. I see people praising Diablo IV all around and the taste of bile fills my mouth because I remember. Creators who made an audience talking about how Blizzard sucks for years now suddenly change their tune because Diablo IV is the cool new thing. They have no substance, no heart, no dignity, they will change their opinion in a heartbeat if it means the general public agrees with them. Honestly, Blizzard is such a shitshow of a company that it singlehandedly opened my eyes to how rotten internet discourse is, and to how shameless AAA studios/publishers are. Nowadays I pretty much only support indie devs, everything else is acquired through sailing the seven seas, and I've never been a happier consumer.
Having followed Grubby, one of the last remaining active pro player, that was highly involved in the promotion and testing another huge problem that he pointed out from the very beginning was/ is that with the colours being desaturated and the new models resembling more east asian mobile games rather than the characteristic warcraft blocky humanoid style vidual unit identification became extremely difficult which caused even pro players that have continuously played the game for 2 decades to have difficulties in observing, controlling of and reacting with their units in larger engagements, which is besides the other downgrades a huge problem for multiplayer matches as it forced anyone not wanting to play with a disadvantage to opt out of the only actual improvements done to the game by habing to turn the graphics back to the original settings
Honestly that's something they would have gotten used to. It's a change, but one that just takes some practice. And honestly, competitive players play almost all games on lowest settings anyway
"We just wanted to make the game better!" Bro, it was already considered one of, if not the, greatest RTS ever made WTF do you mean? Instead we got a Remaster that was so bad, it killed the original. And that's the most unforgivable of sins. Personally, this was the nail in the coffin. I will never buy an Activision or Blizzard game again after this shit.

Such a good case of how poorly a remake/remaster could be handled. Completely bizarre decisions that gave off so many red flags before it was released. If any good came out of the tragedy that was Reforged is that it opened the eyes to a number of people about how different Activision Blizzard was as a company. Hopefully they get their act together soon or Activision might just do away with them at some point.
It's crazy that we're watching the death spiral of Blizzard unfold before us. 10 years ago, this would have been an unconceivable thing. No king truly rules forever.
The worst thing about all of this is that WC3 was in a really fantastic state right before it was pulled and replaced with Reforged. The devs had been regularly updating the game before it was pulled. Such a damn shame all that work is gone forever.

It was my brothers absolutely favorite game and when he found out it was being "Reforged" He was happy as one can be... He's not happy anymore... We play FFXIV now, having much better time.
I was furious from the very beginning seeing how wrong it was in its execution from 2018 announcement and hearing them joke about and mock the game on the panel....it's just awful...
Original dubbing for non english version was lost aswell, also visually Reforged is also frankly just repulsive, its as illconceived and horrible approach as everything else about it. It may be detailed but it looks nothing like original game and is an insult to Samwise Didier's work on the original game. What we should've gotten is exacly the same as Starcraft Remastered and have just refined version of original visuals on same animations and artstyle, something that was partially done in Starcraft II, as War3HD asset package. Also i can blame some....Brian Sousa was an utter moron and completely unfit to be an artlead, with very bad and disrepectful outlook on warcraft III, mocking it on every occassion. Who think they are hotshot creators but in the end, more often than not the truth is they are just leeches who can only leech off the success of others or merely destroy things beloved by many. @@tacticianAlexandra Sadly...he also jumped off the ship before launch to pretend he quits game dev business to just merily go to another company. @@glanni One shouldn't try to *force* people to play the remaster, that's the easiest way to get them to respond badly to it, but I guess that may have not been as clear to the person who ultimately made that decision. That was my last straw with Blizzard, and I was kinda bummed because I was looking forward to Reforged at the time but stuck to my guns. Thank God I dodged that bullet!
Its more funny when you realize that they said they don't condone political messaging... While months later standing with BLM (another communist movement) and the LGBT community.
AoE2 DE makes this so much worse. Microsoft hit the jackpot with it, revitalised an old series and created growing playerbase and ccommunity, which I'd imagine pays off quite a lot, creating a community and creating a launching pad for new games in the series (hiya, AoE4!). And AoE was always less popular than WC. Actiblizz could've achieved so much, but they just went and threw it all away.
That customer service agreement is very much an emotional and bitter statement from the company over losing DotA to Valve. Any DotA player who was following what happened with that situation at the time knew that Icefrog was looking for a standalone successor to the WC3 mod. There was a catch to this situation, Icefrog was going to bring the DotA game over only with the condition that he had full control without anyone above him telling him how to develop his game, this arrangement was never going to happen with Activision Blizzard, therefore he went to Valve to help create Dota 2 along with the legal battle that came between Blizzard and Valve afterwards. Activision Blizzard with Warcraft 3 Reforged made sure another Dota would never happen again on their platform. They really thought Icefrog would have signed over his work to the company with no strings attached, he's not an idiot.
One thing that I just remembered: this game was released just a few months after Nintendo's remake of Link's Awakening. I know they're totally different games, but at the same time, the descrepency in the quality of the remakes is night and day.
Not only that but you also had the Demon's Souls remake come out not too long after made by a studio who have become reknowned for remakes after having worked on the awesome Shadow of the Colossus remake. Showing how to do a remake right.
It's actually a double death, because REFORGED killed itself while erasing the original. Triple death if you count the Frozen Throne as a separate game and not an add on... it is such a sad story and I really hope that Blizzard won't do the same to all the Blizzard games I grew up with and loved. I'm pretty sure the whole South Korean Starcraft business is scared shirtless, because Starcraft would be the next logical candidate after the reforging of Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2... so many careers and jobs are connected to it, and Blizzard could destroy it all with one bad greedy re-release that replaces the old one.
I can’t say I was devastated by this “remaster” that’s a very strong word. However, I was dumbfounded, truly and totally dumbfounded. I like millions of others I got into WoW through WC3. This remaster could have, and should have been a massive boon to the waning WoW. I was speechless, how could Act/blizz not see the potential.
The Custom Map policies are something that were experimented as far back as Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty. Left 4 Dead was taken by Blizzard and Nexus Word Wars was removed for having the word "cunt" in it. Blizzard had been going very hard against the custom map scene for a long time. There's quite a few parallels to Bethesda prior to the Microsoft buyout with their paid mods.
I was doing some research the other day about Blizzard's history with modding since I've been super frustrated with the way they're handling D2R. I want to learn how some other big companies handle it and was looking into Bethesda since they seem to be very much "anything goes." Could you point me to where I should start learning about some of these parallels? I really want to learn more
@@IntoTheSkyy ua-cam.com/video/MJwErFv5enU/v-deo.html This is a good starting place for the initial paid mods controversy, which would be followed by Creation Club. It's just aggressive pushes against the modding community. I wouldn't be surprised is ES6 and Starfield have Creation Club built inside of both games, and requires people to run through those services in order to mod either.
I don't get it because the Starcraft remaster was fantastic, it kept the gameplay and charm of the original game; and it also improved exactly on ONLY what needed to be improved - the presentation and way of running on modern systems. They didn't replace the voice acting for no reason, nor mess with the story (e.g. add an SC2 character inexplicably into the SP1 campaign for no reason) So on the whole the SC1 remaster was incredible. Playing it on my 4k 48.5" monitor honestly made me feel like an 11 year old boy playing the single player again for the first ever time. They say playing a good remaster, should be like playing the original game as you remember it in your 11 year old brain, and that's what it was like. But there was still the good old cut corners, LAN play crashes out more than it works, and the singleplayer skirmish is an afterthought of an afterthought - you can't play a 2 v 2, you and a PC vs 2 PC players; you have to start a LAN game 3 or 4 times (to get past the crashes), start a multiplayer LAN game, add the allied/enemy computer players you want, then hope the game starts without crashing. All because Blizzard couldn't be bothered to put more than the melee option in the single player "custom game" options screen. So it's baffling about this WC3 reforged. It should have been made just like SC remastered - redo the art assets, textures, map geometry, maybe some balance updates - look at AOE2:DE which is a fantastic remaster. Or the C&C remaster - which is literally just a visual overhall - you still have the ancient 20+ year old gameplay and mechanics of the very first real RTS came ever made, C&C1 - but people were still happy with the C&C remaster because it did exactly what it was marketed to do - present you C&C and Red Alert, exactly as your childhood brain remembered it when it came out back in the mid 1990's.
It is rather weird. They put the bar so high that EA went full blast on the C&C Remaster. Swallowing their pride and approaching the westwood Alumni studio Petroglyph to handle the coding, approaching the same artists at Lemon Sky who updated Starcraft's graphics for C&C and even getting Kucan for a quick few promotional videos as Kane. Returning hope to a franchise that was believed as dead and beaten a dead horse could be. All because of SC:R and yet.... THIS happened...
There is also a version of reality where they actually went good on the promise to change things in a coherent manner, and we got a different version of warcraft 3 with significant but well integrated changes. The disaster wasn't in the vision itself. It was in every single step of that execution, from beginning to end.
i just realized my childhood playing warcraft 3 was actually not the campaign because it was too hard for me and i don't understand yet. it was just me playing warcraft 3 having fun trying each custom maps from the community, i remember playing an rpg like custom map where you just grind to get good equipments, forgot what was the name but it was one of my favorite
After playing through the StarCraft remastered campaigns, and absolutely loving it, especially being able to have ergonomic keybinds that make sense. I figured they could do no wrong, and these simple classics that set the foundation for their company were in perfectly capable, master hands. Boy was I wrong.
I agree, SC Remastered was a really good update. I started with SC2 but it gave me a good chance to experience the first game. I can't believe how badly Warcraft 3 went.
Thank You for pointing out that Blizzard doesn't exist anymore, it's basically an I.P. and not a real company anymore. I figured once the movie was made, it was downhill from there.
@@hazardeur also Blizzard: adds Garrisons and turns them into one big mobile game countdown mechanic. Players: “But.. we want to play the game.” J. Allen Brack: “You think you do, but you don’t.”
One important note for old WC3 fans: The classic competitive scene is alive and well and that would have been a nice outro. The guys at Back2Warcraft on twitch are putting in serious work.
I'm so happy you included the Blizzcon gameplay footage. A group of my friends and I went to that one (our first and last as we ended up swearing off Blizzard forever after years of being die-hard fans after that) and were raving about how excited we were for it only for the final product to be so insanely far from what we were promised.
Activision Blizzard started hunting for that E-Sports gravy train thinking their name could carry them to glory. They forgot that the reason they had a good name was because people enjoyed playing their games. I played BW for years - thousands of games and less than 100 ladder games. Custom maps were where it was at and where the community resided. Admittedly though, I'd pick up W3 if it wasn't 30$. I bought it when it was new on shelves, not paying half the original retail value for a game that old. Hell, at least allow me to put my CDKey on block chain in exchange for a new copy of Reforged.
Activision Blizzard wants to hunt for these e-sports that have these 10-20 year long-term grass roots competitive communities (Dota, CS, League, SC) overnight. It's a long term investment that takes making a good game first lol. A game being a popular e-sport not up to them, it up to the fans and the gamers. They aren't the only ones who do this, but the companies that try to establish an e-sport from day one is very naive, you don't know if it's going to catch on and you don't know if its going to be something entertaining for the viewers. Overwatch is a great example of this. It's a great and fun game, it's a clusterfuck to watch a competitive match. It has the worst aspects of a MOBA and FPS in a game that you can't follow at all what's going on.
I've played WC3 TFT from 2003 ~ 2011 then played here and there. It was almost the only the game I've played exclusively during that time. I can't believe they managed to butcher both the classic and the remake at the same time. I hope Blizzard goes bankrupt.
they won't bankrupt. people are just morons, they keep preordering shit and giving money to these shitty studios encouraging them to keep on regurgitating these broken and unfinished games since the money will still enter their greedy pockets anyways.
@@JohnDarksoul69 Totally agree, I played these old blizzard games a lot but why would I buy the same game twice? Just make Warcraft 4 already it's been 20 years...
Reforged being botched is understandable, screwing with the original version puts the nail on the coffin since W3 now has lost practically everything that made it great in the first place, just a remaster would have been infinitely better.
@@hoyhoy852 Hmm that is likely. as for the preForged patches, at first they were good imo. Widescreen, more options, 12 additional colors and players to choose. Then it started getting buggy by the end, guess that was a clear sign that Reforged would be a mess.
When I was replaying the campaign and got 3/4 the way through when Reforged hit then all my saves were erased and all campaigns locked until I re-complete them.
It just not only scrapped campaigns. My custom games folder got overwritten and emptied. With over a 1000 maps - some made in private just for friends at LAN parties and with many obscure maps and versions, that you won't find at internet databases anymore. Those are GONE FOR GOOD AND FOREVER because one day Blizzard Activision decided to reinstall WC3 without asking or prior notice and replace it with an inferior, bloated version.

There is no happy end to this story. We are all alive to see this zombie of a previously loved one standing in front of us. Not fully dead, but mostly with little to no chance to ever go back to the way it once was.
Good news we may see a happy ending with Microsoft buying them out and the head of Xbox made it clear he is pissed at the toxic culture at Activision blizzard and most likely will be laying off key figures that helped ruin both studios
Warcraft 3 remastered was a very easy thing to do. Hire a team of 3d designers and modders and up the graphics. That's it. That's all they had to do. They don't even have to fucking add new cinematics and all that crap.
I haven't bought a blizzard game since WC3 & Xpac. I contacted old highschool friend I played with, and we were going to play together. Then it released, and I remembered why I don't buy blizzard games, and would never preorder one. So we had ourselves hyped we decided to play the original since we had already planned to play WC3. Oh, they ruined that too!? Well... Back to pretending blizzard hasn't been a company for nearly 20 years. Edit: we decided to both buy Total War: Warhammer 2 and play that since Warcraft was originally supposed to be a Warhammer game but they didn't get the IP. So it felt right. We had a lot of fun btw
CA is like the anti-Blizz right now as where Blizz are strangling their own setting to an early grave, CA's successes have led to GW changing their mind about the Old World and after killing it off for Age of Sigmar are now bringing it back once more with a new model range and rules.

It truly is amazing how badly blizzard mess up here. This has to be one of worst remakes in history. Like they didn't just mess up a game, they more or less did everything in their power to deleted the original, so you can't even go back and enjoy the classic version of it [outside of a few methods]. so now you are left with an awful remake that is your only choice. this truly is the death of a game, rip the original warcraft 3.
@@jadedheartsz I believe that as long as you have the original disk you can just download from there, but I'm not sure. Just be careful when trying anything that requires you to be online.
@@jadedheartsz nope. Original WC3 is dead. I own a physical copy of the game and when I install it, it automatically updates to defored when I start the game. The only way to keep good ol' wc3 is to never start it with an internet connection. Playing on the "alternative b.net" w3arena that was used the years prior to the reforge-release (cracked version on a better server, with anticheat, hosting bots, a ladder etc) is also no longer possible because the developer shut that down when deforged was announced with the first b.net patch in over 5 years, when everyone migrated back to the original bnet because of it.
they deleted the old version so they could enforce the new custom map policies, they didn't want to risk letting another DOTA slip through their fingers and was willing to let everything burn in order to prevent that possibility. It is just one example, of many, of how current blizzard does not give a shit for its customers, nothing matters beyond how much money they can milk now
this is the most depressing comment section ive seen in a while, and you know what i completely feel all of you. i have countless stories of hitting up PC cafes with friends in middle school and high school to play, i remember my first lan parties were just for this game, i remember staying up until the morning until school started during high school to play dota with my friends... i remember many different groups of friends talking about wanting to play this again, but then all of us saying nooopppeeee after it released. then i learned that the original versions of the game were gonna be unplayable after reforged due to merging the servers... gg blizzard. at least starcraft remastered was great and diablo 2 resurrected is decent.
Yeah watching this video alone is rlly sad. Im not an avid player but i did remember staying up all night with my older brother to play the campain mode back in the day. Now im here watching a guy talk about how actiblizz fucked warcraft 3 sideways.
This was one of the most dissapointing things Blizzard did since Battle of Azeroth, and it was the point they really began showing their current greedy face and made me happy i had't bought it. Its good i still have my old hardcopy of both the main game and the expansion, if i ever replay it, it will be without internet connection. The game will be missed.
I dont agree that BoA was bad but shadowlands on the other hand is a disaster and a mess of the whole world.. of warcraft. but we can all agree that Reforged is a compelling dumpster fire.
Just stop it. jfc lol "the most dissapointing things Blizzard did since Battle of Azeroth." EVERY single expansion they do people find ways to hate it. The snobs complain about non-issue after non-issue and create problems with the game that really don't exist. A lot of players just want to be snobs about WoW to make it seem like they know better. BFA had NO game breaking issues that turned me off as a player. My friends and I still played and had a lot of fun. Everything wasn't perfect, but it didn't matter. We don't play armchair game developer. We just play the stuff we like and we don't play the stuff we don't.
@@al5306 BFA had a ridiculously long content drought that killed the game for me, and I had been an avid fan for the last 15 years. Also wasn't a fan of many of the systems, gearing sucked since it was all rng and literally just praying you get the right roll. Coming off of legion especially, BFA felt half-assed and repetitive, but that's just my opinion. No need to go after someone else for their own opinion. If you enjoyed it that's great man, I'm glad you enjoyed it. That's all that really matters in the end ^^
At this point, the ethical thing for Activision Blizzard to do is to release the game's source code publicly, and let the community build the game as it should be. The W3 Champions team is already doing a good job at making their own ladder system.
This is a mess of a game. Balance in Single Player, is BROKEN. Units with more health/abilities then they should in Reign of Chaos (The Original Game).
I was one of those that I feel they were aiming for. I missed warcraft where my introduction of its lore was through friends, Hearthstone and HOTS. Quite curious I binged some videos and stories to get up to speed, but still curious to play. Yet so many red flags popping up while friends said it was normal. This is fine. Don't worry(and so on). Further deepening my stance of waiting till after launch to buy games, seeing the shit show around everything made me briefly smug on matters. Then felt terrible for those invested in this, forever destroyed a legendary part of not just one franchise or company. But a benchmark as well as historical greatness in games past. I have checked off anything from blizzard for awhile, I just hope more players find a better game studio. Blizzard is long dead with Activision pulling more and more strings. Just like other beloved studios that fell in recent memory.
I think this was the big "wake up call" moment about Activizzard for many. It was definitely a watershed even for me, even though I'd quit WoW after my friends pulling me in again due to just how terrible their newest expansion at the time was after a pretty good one. I never imagined they would screw up on this colossal a scale - not just fail to release a new version of a great game, but outright try to delete it and basically remove one of the pillars that made them the juggernaut they came to be known as. Activizzard obliterating the thing that sealed Blizzard's fame - doesn't get more poetic than that. And it was just the start of the train we're seeing continuously wrecking to this day, too!
Because they thought they were too big to fail. Because they sent over a lot of the modeling and networking to third parties. Because they pushed up the release date even when internal devs were saying they should have delayed the game. "How does it feel seeing all your favorite franchises burn in flames? Glorious"
You mean ship a game that's unplayable offline/lan & resulting in hundreds of thousands of players rollbacks if they managed to play at all? Idk bro. They should of fkd up harder you're right
@@Roge9 what blizzard fans are willing to put up with never fails to astound me. "At least it's not as bad as this!" They should quote that in the marketing
This is so upsetting I need to pause, multiple times. How, how on God's Green Earth, can you possibly make a legacy building work of genius into utter, complete, all enclosing, all encasing absolute crap and even ruin the original? Warcraft III Reforged is a video game equivalent of that old icon of a Jesus Christ a 'tard "restored".
I feel very bad for the developers of Reforged. They were so clearly thrown to the wolves intentionally having to keep up company appearances with fake apologies while not really being allowed to acknowledge the company's screwups. They also took a LOT of the heat of the fanbase's wrath, but I don't think they deserve it. This video doesn't go into it but around the release of Reforged a lot of patches came out that honestly kinda revolutionized Warcraft 3 mapmaking. The World Editor now supports using Lua script as well as introducing many new native functions that allow for custom UI and so many other things, giving a level of freedom we never had before. That doesn't mean it wasn't still messy - the World Editor is buggy to this day, as for example it occasionally just wipes your imported files - but that, along with the balance patches that were sorely needed in a game that had long become stale, makes me confident that there were people working on this project that absolutely knew what they were doing and just didn't have the time or resources to go all the way with it.
Ha, I only just realised that Activision is like the Lich King Ner'zhul, and Blizzard was like Arthas. Blizzard merged their mind with the Activision crown and became an even more fearsome and cruel entity.
Seems like the next case is Evolve, thought you had already done that but guess not. I loved the idea of Evolve, shame it didn't land quite right due to balance and scummy monetization. It seems like games of this genre are wanted but struggle to get the balancing right/the majority of the community happy. (looking at you Dead by daylight)
Finally! I wasn't around for most of these DOAGs but I was there for Evolve. What a terrible terrible way to handle a unique concept with terrible monetisation and balancing.
it was NEVER going to work for Evolve because the gameplay was fundamentally broken from the start. in a 1vall game, someone has to have the advantage and someone must be the "entertainment". usually the "1" is treated like a GM, required to "entertain" the "all". In Evolve, most hunter players thought the monster was supposed to be this. So even if the monster is played well or a good monster mechanically, its still thought by most that the monster should lose to the hunters. Because if the balance ever sides with the monster, or the hunters suck, then the players get pissed and usually leave. It was especially bad when some monsters like the Red Kraken monster that could easily 1v4 at level 1 and was specifically designed to do so. There was just all sorts of bad design decisions that i feel could never be fixed unless you maybe added another monster player and made it sort of a "hate triangle" where all sides try to kill each other to win.
@@lordxmugen You can have a game balanced around not having someone take on the role of a bot, but no one seems to want to tackle that. I'm guessing it's because you need a robust system of communication for the larger group (and no, voice chat doesn't count), and actual skill needed from both sides. You can have a strong solo role that has moments of weakness that can be played around for both sides. Where each side can (and does) control the flow of the game. I'll admit that I haven't played Evolve, but I do have a bit of experience with DbD, and that game the group controls the pace of the game. If they're good, there's nothing really the solo player can do. If they're bad, the solo player can totally wipe the floor with them.
@@lordxmugen I think they need to figure out exactly what they want each player/side to experience. Balancing a 1v4 (monster versus 4 hunters) is probably just wrong way to go about it, even if you can around a 50/50 winrate, something will feel wrong or unbalanced, luck might even end up being a big factor to who wins. What I think the key is, they need to reward players in other ways. Instead of just rewarding the monster for defeating the hunters you can also reward them for how long they lasted, how many downs they got etc you can even give them certain challenges etc. As we know with dead by daylight a big factor to people playing constantly is progression, games like COD have also realised this I feel like we are gonna have a lot more games in the future with a tonne of progression as it keeps people playing the game.
@@scalpingsnake Evolve had progression, and had cool things you could get. The problem is just that design doesnt work as well as it should because someone always has to have the harder time of it. and even when youre having fun as either side, every match someone has to be the "bitch boy/girl". I just dont think people wanted to sign up for that sort of gameplay.
This one hurt. I was at least somewhat excited for this, which is extremely rare as I've been depressed for years. I just wanted some childhood nostalgia. Blizzard is truly dead, and not just to me.

Other game remasters are separate products from original ones, unlike Warcraft 3
@@Randleray I also remember the CnC remaster really started with a reddit post ! and including the community from day ONE ! and even getting a few hardcore fans envolved
Throw in Fire Emblem Echoes into that list
And then nothing changes and we move on to the next broken game to get angry about.. it sucks

I am quite annoyed by people calling them "good". In vaccum as some assets for blizzard's take on Assasin's Creed or Shadow of Mordor when well animated they could be "impresive" but here being so agggrrssively not warcraft iii nor even Warcraft overall(since it doesnt even look like WoW which is closest to wc3 in its artstyle also being drawn and matte). Even spell effects are awful.
All of it being both uglier and far less readable than og art. Level up for instance doesnt have the same glow and brightness as itvdid in wc3 and wow, and are weirdly animated. If anything wc3 should have a mild detail bump to something slightly above WoW Classic keeping the style and animations.
@Magne M It was but it aint the main reason why it tuend out so bad. Its the Art lead they just done what he wanted of them. Oh, it was a fun time, lots of cool custom campaigns, and some very creative custom game modes, pretty cool singleplayer too. If it ever interests you, you can probably still play the original game, if you get your hands on an older copy and use one of the backed up patches that the community has preserved. The people will always be around, even if the game is no longer with us in an official capacity.

@@internetzenmaster8952 Yeah, I've never seen or heard of anything like this happening with a game re-release, like... ever. Honestly I think it is a contender for most baffling, most bizarre decision to be made in the making of a game.
There has to be a reason, right? Maybe to not split their playerbase? Or so that people won't go like "nah I'll stay with the old one, thanks mate" and then sales are shit?
@@glanni One shouldn't try to *force* people to play the remaster, that's the easiest way to get them to respond badly to it, but I guess that may have not been as clear to the person who ultimately made that decision.
I think the best way to not split the playerbase in this case is to make the two versions of the game crossplay compatible, but I guess the internal architecture of the game has changed too much for that to be possible at this point. I don't actually know, I would like that to be possible.
This was ultimately the straw that broke the camel's back for me with Nu-Blizzard. I had begun to sour on my relationship with them with Diablo 3's later patches and the incident with Blitzchung, but this was just a desecration of the years I put into it and told me exactly what their business strategy going forward would be.
Yeah, the Blitzchung incident pissed me off something fierce, what with Blizzard bending the knee to a communist dictatorship and all. That was my last straw with Blizzard, and I was kinda bummed because I was looking forward to Reforged at the time but stuck to my guns.
Thank God I dodged that bullet!

The virgin WC3: Reforged vs the chad AoE2: Definitive edition
This still pisses me off to this day. They really did us dirty with WC3
The positive note: Torrents
And thanks for the video, NS! This death was one of the saddest...
I _still_ haven't managed to properly pirate the game. :/

Showing how to do a remake right.
dont forget age of empires 2 definitive edition.
@@philiproler5572 Haha well said, it’s so bad it is impressive.
I agree as well
I was doing some research the other day about Blizzard's history with modding since I've been super frustrated with the way they're handling D2R.
They didn't replace the voice acting for no reason, nor mess with the story (e.g. add an SC2 character inexplicably into the SP1 campaign for no reason)
So on the whole the SC1 remaster was incredible.
Cuz when other games got remastered, their remasters are separate products from original ones, unlike Warcraft 3

Ikr I don't know why companies try to hunt for an eSports scene BEFORE cementing a popular, competitive and actually fun game

As a Warcraft fan I am deeply resentful of WoW as a whole.
